I am always a big brunch fan and thought I'd stop by Marston's after seeing their french toast pictures on Yelp. I came here on a Saturday morning (your very typical and popular day for brunching) amd to my surprise, only a 7 minute wait! My boyfriend and I opted to sit outside because of the wonderful weather. Enviroment - the restaurant is located in what looks like an old house and was converted to be used as a restaurant. The building is blue and totally looks like something from Gilmore Girls or something like that. You have options of sitting inside which has a good amount of dining, and then outside where you'll be on the porch. Either way, you'll feel right at home. Service - everyone here is so dang nice! The hostest who was seating people always had a smile on her face. And what I noticed about every one who works here is that they're always willing to open the door for anything and everyone! Such nice people. They also come around an APPROPRIATE ammount of times to ask if you were "enjoying the meal" and whatnots. Food - 1) Fantastic French Toast - I had to get this after having seen pictures of it and it completely reminded me of the french toast from Blue Jam... so Of course I had to get it! I had some fresh fruits added on top of the toasts. I wish that this dish was a little bit sweeter though.. the flakes were not sweet and the toast itself was a little bit dry. However, I believe it did taste better after dipping it in the maple syrup provided. 2) Calfornia Omeltte - I think Marston's has one of the better omelettes in the Pasadena area. The eggs themselves were really soft and fluffy and it was also packed with ingredients. There was a generous amount of avocado on top and the sour cream was a ncie (somewhat uncessary) touch. If you were to eat lunch here, If you were to get brunch here, I would suggest you get a sweet dish as well as a savory dish. There are plenty of sweet ones to choose from such as pancakes and french toasts. Then, of course, tons of savory to choose from. Come here! It's a cute place to go and the wait is not that long. My family has been coming here for decades and Marston's has always been a fav for breakfast. However, today we were disappointed with the service & food. The order was incorrect, my egg omelet was overcooked and did not look like 3 eggs. I understand restaurants struggled during Covid but the prices are high for the amount of food you now get. And what happened to the excellent waitstaff pre -Covid? I will give it another time try so hopefully this was just a misstep. read more

The weather was excellent so I ate outside and had a nice view of the trees and San Gabriel mountains. I tried their pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. I ordered the spinach omelette and it came with toast and potatoes. The toast and potatoes are a bit on the burnt side. And I'm not talking crunchy coz I like cruchy, but burnt like with black spots. The omelette itself was large, tasty and super fluffy but for something called "The Spinach Omelette," it had waaaay more bacon than spinach. Which my husband loved but I ordered it! We shared eggs Benedict + seven grain pancakes with macadamia nuts. I love love the eggs Benedict, so yummy. The sauce that comes with it is so delicious. The pancakes were okay at best. Too grainy for my taste. Overall, the prices are pretty pricey for brunch. Came here to lunch but got their Fantastic French Toast (four slices of sourdough dipped in vanilla egg batter and rolled in corn flakes) with bananas for $9.25 and a large orange juice for $4.95. The French toast came out with strawberries and blueberries, but after I told the waitress she brought me a side of bananas. The French toast itself was great. It was very original: crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, sweet with the maple syrup, and fruity with the toppings. Would definitely reorder. Ok, that makes it sounds like we were buying insurance policies or something - in plain and simple words, we all LOVED it. We came for brunch on a Saturday during prime brunch hour, and despite the fact that we were mentally prepared to wait a while for a seat, we were seated in under 15 minutes. Our waitress was quick, efficient, and no nonsense. We were most impressed when our food came out in just barely over ten minutes after ordering. Between the French toast, California omelet, some type of sandwich, and another omelet, we were thoroughly satiated and exceptionally happy. Portions were large, prices reasonable, not to mention A+ quality. Despite the fast and straightforward service, never once did we feel rushed or pushed out when we were done. If you're looking for a cutesy cafe to have a bridal shower, or an eclectic cafe to impress a young hipster, this isn't the place for you. It's a cutesy dutesy (spelling?) place and pretty busy. Parking is hard as their parking only allows for 10 cars max..maybe. Luckily it's a Thursday morning and we were seated right away. Had a "normal" breakfast which was two scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and an English muffin. Can't really see how you can mess that up, so it was good..as you'd expect. My friend had their special omelette, can't remember what was in it but he said it was good. My other friend had eggs Benedict, so that's almost as basic as mine. We all split the blueberry pancakes (half order) and the works. Which was their specialty corn flakes French toast with strawberry, blueberries and whip cream. This beautiful converted house restaurant is quite the experience. Saturday morning and not yet hot, we decided to eat outdoors. The staff is super friendly and the outdoor area is very clean. After ordering, our drinks came up immediately. I'm a breakfast guy so I opted for the San Pasquel omelette (( bacon, avocado and bacon. My wife ordered the spinach omelette with egg whites. The problem isn't with food flavor but with description. The Texas chili with eggs said it contains meat, no mention of beans. It was essentially a can of beans. If there was actual meat it was so small I couldn't see it. Remember this is described as Texas Chili which traditionally does not contain beans. The reason I am not giving this review a 1 is because the cheese popovers were good. We had our post Wedding family brunch at Marston's and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, service beyond attentive and location so close to the hotels many of our guests stayed in. Mmmm. Second time here and the food was okay. This is a major staple in Pasadena and for it to be okay was disappointing. The first time was good, lobster or crab Benedict I believe I had. This time I had the huevos rancheros and the tortilla weren't crispy at all, it was as if they poured a can of beans over it and sprinkled some cheddar cheese and Pico de Gallo (too much lime) and called it a day. I couldn't decide between what I ordered and the French toast so the girl taking our order suggested I get just a side of the French toast. Yesterday I went to Marston's and had a lackluster, overpriced meal. I ordered the Pasadena Salad, that consisted of tasteless spinach, dry chicken and sparse avocado. At $16.95 the salad was definitely no bargain! The candied pecans were the high point of the salad. My boyfriend had a dry vegetarian omelet. It was the better of the two meals. The English muffin was the best part of both meals. Even the coffee at 4.50 a cup was weak diner coffee. I wish I were able to give a more positive review and hope Marston's can improve! read more

For mothers day it was only reservations and a set menu with a fixed price. It included pastries, a meal and a dessert. We were seated fast and had our drinks right away! Coffee refills came around all the time and it kept us warm because we were outside. We ordered the tenderloin eggs Benedict, regulars eggs benedict, a children's french toast and a french toast. The vegan option was mot worth the 38 dollar fixed price so I gave up my vegan ways for the meal. The food came out fast and tasted pretty good. I was surprised by how big the food was! I have been wanting to come here for a while. The food was really good with the exception of the toast which was hard. Not the best for covid outdoor eating. The lady (I'm assuming the owner) kept pulling down her mask. They continue to use the shared ketchup bottles and salt and pepper. They did have a hand sanitizer station which was nice but it would have been really nice to see the wait staff using it also! read more

What happened to the food here? It used to be a breakfast that was fresh and delicious. Today I had a can of black beans poured over a mushy tortilla, topped with half a slice of mushy avocado. My wife had the pulled pork eggs Benedict, it looked a plate of brown mush, didn't taste much better. The potatoes were soggy and greasy. Finally tried this place after years of living in Pasadena. I know. Anyway...the macadamia nut pancakes were heavenly and loaded with macadamia nuts. Ask for extra pancake syrup.
