I've been going to Marston's for 8 years and have always had a good meal. I will say, the service is outstanding, consistently so. I've been a little disappointed lately. I ordered Eggs Benedict recently (for delivery), and the eggs were almost hard boiled. Very disappointing. In the spirit of supporting one of my go to places, I ordered the same thing again, but with the same results. It was a bummer. So, some things don't travel well, like French fries and eggs Benedict. Drop by here after our union march today for a quick lunch treat. I am very pleased with my Mushroom Swiss Burger with fries. It costs about $15 which is pretty much an average these days. Salads can be so expensive but i was reluctant to order it. All of my coworkers ordered their own food and they are also pleased with the taste experience. I will be back again here when I'm in the area again. Just a walking distance Frm the City Hall. It's a small building but the foods here are enticing. I really wanted to love Marston's, but I didn't. When you're charging $18 for an omelette and $5 for coffee, I expect everything to be at least pretty good. Well, the atmosphere is "okay", comfortable but nothing more. The menu is good; quite a few breakfast items that caught my eye. The food preparation was just "okay". So far that's not adding up to "worth the money," but the kiss of death was the coffee. Quite a few reviewers seem to love the coffee so I don't know if I have different tastes (quite possible; I despise third wave coffee) or if something was wrong with it, but it was sour with a lemony finish. Part of the pleasure of having breakfast out with friends (being a meal that is never really worth the money, given that the ingredients don't cost much and the preparation is fast and easy) is relaxing with coffee refills and enjoyable conversation. As a dog owner,​ I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "you give over-salted food to your dog? Great place to have brunch in Pasadena! We called ahead, they don't do reservations or call ahead seating, but we were told there wouldn't be much of a wait anyway. They have a little side lot (which was full) so be ready to find street parking. But it's easy enough to get to and isn't in a congested part of town. The food was really good. I had the NY steak and eggs (although it wasn't a flank steak do not sure why they called it "NY") but it was really quite good. My wife had the French toast, which is what they're known for, and it was AMAZING! The service was good, not great, but the atmosphere, food quality, and price definitely kept this place at 5 stars. After reading the mixed reviews on here I didn't have high expectations when my BFF's boyfriend wanted to take us to brunch at Marston's. However, I complied and didn't say anything and just tagged along. We arrived fairly late -- around 1.30pm -- and there was still a slight wait. We waited about 10 mins before we were seated at a perfect table -- well, to me it's perfect because it's the very far corner in the dining room. I love sitting at a table like this because I'm able to take a photo of the main dining room perfectly. I was afraid we might get the server who didn't smile (as one reviewer mentioned) or maybe the one who never refilled the drinks (as another reviewer lamented). Luckily we got a happy server who quickly took our drink order: small OJ ($3.50), large grapefruit juice ($4.25) and a tropical iced tea ($2.50). Despite the many disappointments from other reviewers regarding the Eggs Benedict ($11.95), I ordered it. I love eggs benedict and like one reviewer said, I also judge a restaurant's caliber by its benedict. My BFF got Grandma's Oatmeal ($4.95) served with milk, brown sugar and raisins while her boyfriend got the Californian omelet ($11.75). I must say my eggs benedict were pretty darn good. I liked how the poached eggs were cooked perfectly -- soft and runny. The hollandaise sauce was not too thick which meant it didn't congeal before I finished it. My eggs came with potatoes which were requested to be well done and they were just awesome -- this coming from someone who doesn't even like potatoes. My BFF's oatmeal was also very tasty -- again, oatmeal not being something I usually like. The consistency of the oatmeal was not glucky and thick, but also, not runny either. The boyfriend ordered the Californian which was the other thing I wanted to try. It was also very flavorful without being overly salty. They were very generous on the chicken and the avocado with sour cream added to the layers of flavors this dish offered. I enjoyed my meal and thought everyone else's food was good too. However, no one did come by to offer me ice tea refills and it wasn't until I waved our server down and asked for some before she came over with the pitcher. Food was above average and on the pricey side. I don't think I would wait longer than 20 mins to eat here. Cute hidden gem in Pasadena. Near the courthouse and library, you drive too fast and you will miss it, why? Because it looks like a house. It is a small location but you know what they say, good things come in small packages and this definitely applies to this place. You have a choice to sit inside or on the patio, it's really a cute set up. I love finding great breakfast spots! French toast covered with pieces of cornflakes. OMFG the best French toast I have ever tasted and had. Nice crunch on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. Served with sweet butter and maple syrup. I have notice that this is the plate that has everyone coming into this place! The San Pascal 3 eggs omelet with strips of bacon, Cheddar cheese and topped with fresh slices of avocados and sour cream. Home style potatoes and choice of bread. I got egg whites only and wheat bread, food was super yummy, just the way it looked when it came as well. Everything was awesome, it's really hard to cook a good omelet with egg whites and this place did it, I am a happy camper. Word of advice: go early on the weekend, they get packed. Reason why I'm giving them 2 stars is because my dish really wasn't worth $10.50. Look at my picture. Does that look like you'd pay $10.50? Granted, I liked the taste of the sandwich and soup but not enough where I'd come back to eat it again. VERY over priced. His BLT was around the same price or more. But he got one full sandwich. I wanted to go to Peach Cafe, but that was too far, so the bf and I settled for Marston's instead. They have their own parking lot, which is great and the restaurant is actually a small quaint house. There's two houses in the parking lot and Marston's is the one on the left. It said brunch ended at 11 and we got there around 10:50 but I guess they still continued to serve brunch for a few more hours or something. The boyfriend and I did not intend to eat here, but our first pick was about a two hour wait for breakfast. PARKING I think they have their own parking lot on the back, but it is very small. Whatever it was - I am guessing electric box outside - there was a soft vibration and buzzing that was very distracting and uncomfortable during the meal. MENU This place is a nice place for breakfast, but I can't say I will be back. Don't let the beautiful pictures fool you - while the food will make your mouth drool, it looks prettier than it taste. Marston was crazy busy, tons of people, long waiting list, tiny dining room, yet we were seated in no time, smiled at, bantered with and served; all thanks to a group of friendly servers. Our coffee cups were never close to half empty and our food came lickety-split. I had their corned beef hash and eggs and we shared an order of Marston's blueberry pancakes. Unlike may other places, Marston's corned beef hash is more corned beef than hash and real corned beef; large tender stripes of freshly made corned beef topped with 2 eggs. While I applaud their choice of fresh and homemade ingredients, I thought their corned beef was a bit bland. The blueberry pancakes on the other hand was just the way I like my pancakes; large round, not too thick, not crepe thin, doughy and loaded with blueberries. The pancake choices on the menu doesn't come with anything else. Marstons is a Pasadena family favorite. I've been coming here since I was a teenager. This restaurant is so cute and looks just like a little house! Being that it's so popular, it can get really busy. The busiest time to go is breakfast time. The breakfast is especially good. However, dinner is equally good too. They even have special holiday menus. I went for Valentine's day one year. They're prefixe menu was great ! Service is good too in-spite of the tiny quarters. Never had a problem. Took a work lunch here & I'm not going to lie.... I really liked it. I really liked the Cordierra Salad that was recommended. It had alot of different flavors in it, but they somehow blended together really well. Some candied walnuts, two types of olives, chicken, crisp romaine, cheese, .... and other stuff haha I can't remember now, but it was good and so fresh. My tuna melt and fries were good too, but I have had better; I did like that they used Rye bread though, it gave the sandwich a different taste that I haven't experienced with other tuna melts. After I left downtown Los Angeles, I headed for Marston's on my way back to Las Vegas. This was another place suggested by Yelpers. I ordered the Pulled Pork Benedict. Two poached eggs on spicy pulled pork on English muffins with a spicy Hollandaise sauce. A side of potatoes was served with the eggs. I really enjoyed my stop here. Marston's is quite small (seating capacity is 74 - I asked). There was no wait as there were both tables and the counter available. Amazing Breakfast spot so close to home in Pasadena! We live only down the street and found this place in a building that looks like a house- I wonder if that qualifies as "homey"? Came here for their Fantastic French Toast (heard great things about it) which was good. It didn't really have any special flavors but did have a nice texture with a crispy outside. We also got their omelette which was nice, but nothing especially great. The real winner was actually one of the things we took a chance on- their pulled pork egg Bennedict. After 25 years of enjoying the food and service here we have to share that it is no longer a place we recommend. We were there for breakfast and ordered our usual California omelette and french toast. The omelette was burned and the french looked and tasted like it was yesterday's tossed out toast! I came to find a little group of people standing around what appeared to be a cozy little cottage home. First thought was, AA meeting in the day time? Second thought was, church?? Well folks, turns out this is a restaurant that serves breakfast! I did enjoy the benedicts (my typical favorite) and the crispy french toasts but there was something not quite satisfying about either of these dishes. Ordered thru yelp . They said it was ready...it wasn't. Had to wait another 15-20m. Bought eggs Benedict add tomatoes for an extra $1. They forgot potatoes. So I call them back just to let them know and they told me I ordered substitute tomotato so it was my fault order wrong. At this point they are lying. Their grub hub menu literally didn't allow substitute tomato when I ordered. I took a screenshot. After I called they changed the grubhub menu so that it shows substitute potatoes for tomato. I will never go again. Too bad too . Their food was good otherwise. read more

There's a reason why there's always a crowd outside the restaurant. These people aren't messing around. The food portion is HUGE, and you can tell they're not concerned about calorie count. Real butter is used at this place, people! The servers are efficient and know how to manage a busy place. The menu is pretty big and price is reasonable considering how much food they give you. I mean, when you order the large orange juice, it was a LARGE orange juice. The omelettes are nice and fluffy and the fillings are generous. The NY steaks and eggs is also great. The steak was tender and nicely seasoned. For sides, you can chose between potato, cottage cheese, veggies, fruits etc. I walked out of there satisfied and happy. The only reason I would not give this place 5 stars is that the wait is just too long, especially weekend mornings. read more

Food is great. Service is great. The reason for my 1 star review is truly for the incident I was a witness to at this place of business today. I was waiting for a table, when I witnessed a blonde woman screaming, in front of everyone, at the employees. It was unseeingly. I have never witnessed such an ugly portrayal in my life. Came here after much yelping and am not disappointed...at least not with what was ordered. I was apprehensive about parking after all the reviews and made sure I had some coins as well as plenty of time in case I had to wait. The mid morning traffic and parking turned out to be easy but I can imagine how bad it can get on the weekends since the lot only allow for about 15 cars? And you can only go in one way which means you need to back out onto the street. Kind of bad for bad drivers. .. ahem. Ordered the $8.95 Fantastic French Toast Two thick slices sourdough dipped in egg batter and rolled in corn flakes. Grilled and served with hot syrup and soft butter. Could only eat 2 and was full already. Of course I did dip into some of my friends' omellete, but if not, maybe 2 1/2 will fill you up. If you are really really hungry then ok, 4 sounds about right. It was crunchy and I enjoyed the texture. The bread was a bit doughy, I preferred a softer consistency. Butter on the side needs to be softer, in room temperature. The one served was hard and it was hard to fully coat the toast. Overall not too bad a dish considering it is abit more than $2 per slice. My fellow yelper ordered the $12.25 The Californian Chicken cilantro sausage, spinach, cheddar cheese, avocado and sour cream Huge dish and plenty of potatoes to go around. Flavorful and filling. Sausage cooked and seasoned well. The ambience is very quaint and cottage like. Outdoor seating limited but available. Just a nice place to have a tete-a-tete, although I have to say Julienne's has a nicer, less crowded ambience, and not too much stress in terms of parking :) read more

Came in on a Tuesday Morning. Tried the San Pasqual omelet: bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese with 1 mac nut pancake. The servings were so large. Pancake filled the plate. Didn't finish anything, but it was all so good! I would def come back just to eat the mac nut pancakes. I didn't care for the coffee, it was kinda bitter. Omelet was SO DELISH! I'm not a fan of their special potatoes. Gotta love a place in Pasadena with their own parking lot. It has about 12 spaces. There is street parking. If you get there early and it is free until 11am. read more

This restaurant is so crowded in the morning, I recommend coming in before 8:00 AM to not have to wait. If you're a late riser, you can suntan on chairs along Walnut Street for an hour. The food here is especially fresh and the servers are fast and efficient. A few years ago, they tried offering dinner, but it just did not pan out. Their forte is breakfast/brunch/lunch, as the crowds can attest to. The lack of parking at this location is problematic, as it shares it with a couple other businesses. The food here is nice and perfectly done to your liking. I had the salmon benedict, and never knew salmon could taste so good with eggs! The atmosphere is quaint, with a kind of southern decor or bed & breakfast look. I could picture a rocking chair on their porch... I think the quality of the ingredients is what makes this restaurant work, and the speed of which you can be served, if you are in a hurry. I think we were in and out in less than an hour. Of course, if you want to have a lazy weekend breakfast, you can do that too; I just feel bad for all the people waiting outside staring at our finished breakfast! read more
