Wow! I've been missing great (not good) Indian food. Transplanting from big cities like New York and LA where Indian food is everywhere, it's been hard to find my go to spot out here. To top it off they are Nepalese which hosts some variety to your typical Indian cuisine. I didn't get to try the variety yet but if it's at all as good as the traditional food they serve then I'm very excited. Definitely get the samosas, garlic naan (made the authentic way) and tikka masala. I got a feast for 20 bucks at lunch and have more than enough to take home and enjoy later. Big fan of the servers who seem to always be smiling and just happy to serve. The inside has great decor and prayer flags everywhere. I went during the lunch special but I'm excited to check it out in the evening when the mood lighting hits. Definitely coming back. read more

This Nepalese/Indian restaurant is absolutely divine. I've had momos at other Nepalese restaurants, but the chilly veggie momo was so special. It's kinda like a sweet and sour sauce, except with chilies. We ordered everything at the spiciest level. Some places just make things spicy but without flavor, but this one was fragrant and flavorful. The filling itself wasn't spicy, which was a nice contrast to the spicy exterior. My partner and I also ordered a Nepal thali each; his was the goat thali and mine, the lamb. Only one of the items was different between our orders, but everything was absolutely delicious. The amount of food we ordered was probably enough for a family of four; we have several meals worth of food as leftovers. We should have definitely just shared one together, but I'm not at all upset that we have more of this delicious food. The service was good as well. The servers responded quickly to our requests and also checked in on us every so often to make sure everything was to our liking. One of the servers shared that this place has only been open for less than a week. The chai was good, but the mango lassi was one of the best I've had. We will absolutely be back. read more

Where to start?! Every dish was sensational and they even offered us an amazing complimentary starter (veggie pakoras! SO GOOD). We got the Momo Chilly Veggie (with delicious fresh vegetables and a solid amount of spice), Veggie Korma, Paneer Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and garlic naan. Everything was perfect. I loved seeing how many vegetarian options they have on the menu, and that so much care was put into those entrees to make them just as flavorful as the meat ones. I decided to try this place since it's around the corner from my house. I got the Nepali chicken curry (spice level 1) and the saag paneer (spice level 3) and garlic naan. I didn't do the lunch special because I don't drink the mango lassi. The total was $41. I have to say, the taste was just alright, the Nepali chicken curry wasn't bad but the saag paneer was definitely not as tasty as the ones I've had before. Compared to the restaurants in Irvine, I was paying a premium I think but the portions were small. The garlic Naan hardly had any garlic which was very disappointing. Not sure if I'll go back. Oh the sadness of trying a new place and leaving disappointed. I called Masala Waves at 5:31pm and placed a phone order of Momo Chilli, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken, House Salad, and Samosa. I was not asked for my name and was only told of a 20min wait time. I arrived as advised and asked to pick up my order; however, it seemed like they were not able to find my order and asked for my name (but my name was never asked for). So eventually they said it would be "a few more mins". We did not get our food until 6:17pm. I was a bit upset because if they had forgotten my order, I would have liked for them to be upfront about it and apologize. It would have been absolutely okay because they were having a busy Saturday night and I get that things happen. But they made it seem like it would only be a few more mins when clearly it wasn't. Anyway, I got over it and was excited to try their food due to the raving reviews. Unfortunately, I was left even more disappointed when half of my order was wrong. I received the regular naan instead of the garlic, the Nepali Dumplings instead of the Momo Chilli, and the salad didn't come as advertised. The Butter Chicken and Samosa were good. Awesome experience to say the least, Sal and his team are amazing, their hospitality is unmatched! We were invited to eat by my Dad, But admittedly My family and I were very nervous of trying Indian/Nepal cuisine as we have tried food elsewhere and didn't have the best experience. But Sal definitely helped us ease those nerves and helped us pick out a few dishes to try which all ended up being Knockouts. super fresh, super tasty! We went in nervous and left planning our next dinner at Masala Waves lol. Our favorites we tried were the Tandoori Chicken, the Madras Chicken, the Tikka Masala, and the Mango Lassi oh and let's not forget the Spinach dip stuffed Naan , finished off the meal with Mango and Pistachio Kulfi!
