I have been to Masala Wok many many many times even though I live 20+ minutes away. The food is delicious and consistent and they are willing to make changes to your order depending on your preference. However, I do have one complaint about the place: the owner/manager seems friendly at first BUT if you go regularly enough she becomes extremely intrusive and sometimes plain rude (all the while keeping a fake smile on her face). I am moving to North Texas, and I will continue my patronage at Masala Wok - I just love the food too much - but I'm glad not to be dealing with the TechRidge manager in the future. read more

In my first 3 4 times to the place, I was a fan and loved the Indian Chinese food that I haven't come across in the US and thought the staff too were extremely friendly. The last trip was hell though. We found a piece of meat in our cauliflower manchurian, that to after making it very clear that we are vegetarians and no meat in any of our dishes. I ended up chewing on it before realizing it was not cauliflower. While something similar has happened a couple of times earlier in the Cheesecake factory and Applebees and I accept mistakes happen, in those situtations the waiter/waitress have been highly apologetic for the mistake and rescued the situation. At Masala Wok though, once I reported the issue to the waitress her first reaction was this cannot happen in our kitchen, we cook everything separately etc. Then she asked us what we want. We were shocked and said we dont want anything, she asks us do you want your money back, I said ok, to that she very rudely replies if you wanted your money back you should have told me in the first place. Let alone being apologetic, she was outright rude at that point, with no concern to our beliefs. In retrospect, I should have complained to the manager, but at that point I was just disgusted with the waitresses' behavior and wanted to get out. read more

My husband and I went out for dinner on 5/31/12. Being as our children are out of town we thought it would be nice to try something new. When we first arrived parking was easy and the outside and inside of the building were clean. The lady behind the ordering counter was very nice and helpful. I found their menu to be a little confusing. My husband and I both ordered from the Indian side of the menu he got chicken tikka masala and I ordered the chicken tandoori wrap. After ordering I went to get our drinks which was right next to an open window where you could look inside the kitchen. While the restaurant was clean I was a little worried about the kitchen being as I watched the cook clean a wok with a spoon and the dump it in a thing of water where he was pulling out another spoon from the same water to plate food in another wok. However after getting our silverware and drinks we we waited for a total of 10 minutes from the time of ordering to the time of the food arriving to our table. The only thing I have to say was good was the naan garlic bread. My chicken tandoori wrap was less than flavorful and my husband said his food was mediocre but was pretty too spicy. My husband got a basmati rice which was a white rice with some kind of spice in it and I got a brown rice both of which were bland. OVERALL While the service was quick and the people were friendly I was not impressed with their food. We probably won't be going back due to the bland flavors and complicated menu. read more

If I could give this place zero stars... I still wouldn't be content. Masala Wok charges the same prices as Tejis, and close to the same prices as Royal India, and yet it was some of the worst food I have ever eaten. Holy cow it was bad. My boyfriend and I tried it because it was close to our apartment and Yelp reviews said it was alright. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Do yourself a favor and drive to one of the other Indian restaurants in Austin. I was a little apprehensive about going into this place, Asian and Indian food together? Besides to cheat on Tarka is a sin in my book. Long story short, stick to the Indian menu, the Asian is not so great. My fiancee had Masala Wok with chicken which was basically Chicken and veggies cooked in sriracha sauce, unless thats your bag. But I think the real underdog that most would dismiss as proper Indian food is the Tandoori Wrap. Cilantro, onions, tomatoes, mozzerella cheese with yoru choice of meat wrapped in Naan bread with a side of Tikka Masala sauce. Nomz. I really enjoyed eating Indian in a casual environment like this. In my experience that's a unique find and a great ethnic eatery for a family. They also offer some Asian dishes, but I've never tried those. They have a ton of vegetarian options and will happily make substitutions for you. It's been a while since we've been here so I don't remember any specific dishes that I've eaten. It's pretty far away from where I live so it's not a very frequent dining spot for my family. read more

I've been to Marsala Wok numerous times, but keep forgetting to review it. Went there again today, and just had to take a minute to sing this place's praises. Marsala Wok is located right next to Freebird's in Tech Ridge. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a strip mall restaurant. The interior is well done, but nothing too "WOW". You order at the counter. There are 3 areas where Marsala Wok excels. First and foremost, the food is phenomenal. Everything I've tried from their Indian menu is lights out fantastic. That's not to say there isn't better Indian food anywhere......but more awesome than awesome.........is still "awesome"! And AWESOME is what Marsala Wok serves. (Side note, the malai kofkt is in-freaking-sane!) Another area where Marsala Wok excels is in their customer service. I've never been in that the people weren't overly friendly. They're so excited to see non-Indians come in. Numerous times we've asked about things on the menu and they've gone and gotten us samples. These guys really care about their customers. Where I think Marsala Wok really shines is in the entertainment. No, there are no belly dancers, no bands, no karaoke. What they have is infinitely better.....................Indian music videos. They have one tv dedicated to nothing but music videos. Now close your eyes (not before reading this though, duh), and try to imagine Michael Jackson wearing bright yellow MC Hammer pants & a turban. Now, multiply that Michael Jackson by 50x. Now, take some A-level break-dancing and mix it w/ epilepsy. THAT is Indian music videos. It is a form of entertainment that knows no exhaustion. Remember the electric slide.....the cabbage patch.....the running man. Please, these moves have nothing on Indian epileptic flash dancing! Nowhere on earth can you see a chubby turban'd man ride an imaginary pony while praying, as a barely clothed women fein seizuers around him. It's a level of awesomeness that is actually awesome'er than awesome! So go, grab some fantastic Indian food, get a chair facing the TV, and enjoy the show. p.s. "I didn't realize Masala Wok was a chain till I saw this one in Dallas. I used to go to the Masala Wok by Dell in Austin, TX, when I used to help handle the Dell account at work. I fell in love with Masala Wok back in the day when I would be at the Dell campus every day of the week. I hadn't been since, and was uber-excited when I discovered the familiar signs and colors and crazy menu. Masala Wok shouldn't be categorized as Indian. They start off with Indian and then go off in a different direction with every item on the menu. Mexican, Chinese, Bistro. The results don't always work. Some of their Indian-Chinese fusions need to put out of their miserable existences. I think I have had to return everything on the Indian-Chinese fusion menu (very "cutely" labeled Wok). Some of their stuff though is finger-licking! The Tandoori Quesadillas, the Wraps, the Chicken Tikka Masala (but then again, it's really difficult to screw up Chicken Tikka Masala), the Biryani, all really, really good. And all really, really huge servings. Normally you shouldn't be able to chow down servings this big in one go, but it just tastes oh so good that you're left wanting more even after you've consumed food enough for three people. I went there with my wife on a tuesday. There were a lot of people taking out food. We ordered Manchow soup which was good. We also ordered Malai Kofta and Hakka noodles and the Hakka noodles was horrible. I was not abe to eat more then few spoons. THe noodles was soggy and no flavor other than raw chilli powder. The Malai kofta was decent, not authentic but at least edible. THe koftas are shaped wierd. NOTE: they do put MSG in their food. So if you do not want MSG you need to mention it explicitly. Went in today to order my food, which is always good and asked what my point balance and was told that my points expired and there was a new system (in which I was not made aware). Mind you, I eat here at least 3 times a month and was really upset because I spent a lot of money here. The order taker, told me they sent a text (lies). I got a text with the new system, but never received one regarding the old one and now all my points are gone. I guess this is there way of not honoring your points that you earn. read more

They don't offer name brand soda, just some knock off stuff called Stubborn. I am not interested in drinking generic soda at a restaurant.

Was referred to this place by one of my co-workers. It's basically an Indian place and they serve traditional Indian food along with fusion stuff -- Indian-ized Thai, Chinese, etc. They had very few choices that met my diet requirements. It's funny -- when I walk up to the order desk or hostess at most restaurants they just say that they can prepare anything to meet my diet requirements. When I dig deeper (asking them if their sauces may be pre-made with ingredients that I'm trying to avoid) they are forced to go check with the kitchen and come back and tell me they were wrong. I had a similar experience here. But once that was all sorted out, the food was OK. They can get very busy during lunch time, but they seem to be able to get the orders done quickly. Get your Indian-Chinese right here! Any takers? Well those who know what I'm talking about will run for it and Masala Wok's pretty good at it. They have the ambience of a good casual dining resturant - sort of your Chipotle like industrial-chic meets Indian aroma's. The soups, Manchurian, Chow Mein, Chop Suey... its all there, including regular Punjabi entrees (that's the Masala). I only wish they were open late, were closer to UT, and now that I'm out of Austin... they'd open in Los Angeles! Bonus points: free WiFi and a large flat panel TV. read more

The food is really good. I'm told its Americanized Indian food, but I don't care. There are a lot of good choices on the menu and the food usually comes pretty fast except when the place is very crowded. It is a little expensive, but I think it is worth it for the taste. read more

Simply delicious. The tikka masala here has no comparison.All of the currys are really delish here. Don't waste your money going to the clay pit, it's not half as good and neither is it's service. This place however, is exceptional. The food and service has always been top notch. They did make my boyfriend's a bit too spicy once but comped us two meals because of it! I absolutely ADORE the woman who works on Sundays.She's sooo sweet and always made us feel like family. I wish I could go have a tikka masala right now. After surgery and long recovery journey I've become more health conscious about what I feed my body. I used not look up the nutritional information on restaurants but I'm glad I do now. Masala food tastes good but like more things that are good usually are not healthy. While it is not as bad as a burger place or fast food Chinese it still doesn't offer a healthy menu. The majority of their dishes, including veggie dishes, contain well above 2000 mg of sodium with some soaring above 4000 mg. It is incredible that one single dish can have more sodium than 3 big bags of chips. I hope in the future they eliminate MSG and lower the sodium content, won't return considering how bad high fat and sodium is for your body. read more

Good place to have Indian food, it is more of an american/asian twist but it's good.

Last night we had Masala Wok delivered to our place despite not being impressed with their food before. The ordering part was a hassle since their menu and the online menu on dine on demand were not the same, and they were really rude to the dine on demand people about pricing. After settling on our order and the price, we impatiently awaited our food. I'm so glad to say it did not disappoint. The food was SO much better than previous visits. It was really good actually. We got pepper chicken with noodles, sesame chicken with noodles, and hakka noodles with chicken (yeah, we like chicken and noodles) - all were surprisingly delicious and at just the right spice level. I had ordered the hakka noodles before, and this time it tasted like a completely different dish. I still think their food is greasier than it should be, but they're definitely back on our list. I'm just hoping they're consistently good from here onward. read more

I don't like the Chinese dishes, but the Indian plates have never disappointed. I love getting the Malai Kofta and the Samosas. Great food to pick up and take home to watch a movie. read more
