We used to regularly go to this place, my son was loving there chicken lollipop, my husband chicken tikka roll, my favorite Thai pepper fried rice, but we have tried most of their menu, other than biryani all dishes used to be good. But don't know want happened, this place is worst now, you tell them spicy but still it will be sweetish, naans aren't good, Kung pao chicken need to be bit spicy but it tastes sweetish, fried rice is still ok. I honestly didn't have many expectations walking in--growing up on Indo-pak food, the "inspired" stuff is generally always hit and miss. But I'd heard good things. We opted for the chicken 65 and the Thai chili fried rice. Overall, not too shabby. The fried rice was flavorful, had a nice bit of kick, and the mix of vegetables added a fresh bit of flavor. The Chicken 65 was an amalgamation-- fried pieces of chicken, with a tikka-style dipping sauce, rice, and some naan. It was pretty good together, but honestly, the dipping sauce was probably the highlight of the dish. The chicken seemed dry after eating it for a while, and the flavor started to fall flat. ONE OF THE WORST INDIAN restaurants I have been too. I asked to return my paneer masala and the lady that worked there said unless there is something wrong, we cannot return. No refund, no apology just bad manners. HORRIBLE customer service :( This place needs to close down or get sued. We ordered this from Door Dash over the weekend and were SORELY DISAPPOINTED. This was the absolute worst Indian curry I've ever had. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like canned tomato soup. My Butter Chicken was bland, had a grainy texture, and again, had this strange canned taste. Something was very wrong with the way everything tasted. The garlic naan was also bland and unimpressive. There were really no redeeming qualities to this meal. Just a waste of money. Next time we will order from Tejis, Tarka, or Rock n Grill for Indian - somewhere we know we can trust for quality! Because of a certain Alison B, I ate something today called Butter Masala. BUTTER MASALA. That means "fat ass" in one of the 1500 dialects spoken in India. I took the plunge based on some other Yelp reviews and was rewarded with a big ol plate of goopy goodness. Everyone got similar goopy goodness and we tucked in, starving for lunch and some of that familiar Masala taste. Total win on the garlic naan btw. Between bites of Paneer, we laughed and gossiped and got refills of diet coke. It was a quick, yummy, decent lunch. I realize my initial review kinda left Masala Wok hanging. As you may remember, I was a bit under the weather and my experience was less than stellar. Well, I've been back (many many times) since. Armed with senses intact and taste buds in full receptive mode, Ive come to the conclusion that this place rocks! Now...I'm not Indian (just in case you were wondering), but I know what I like! I wish I could pinpoint my favorite item, but quite frankly...I have loved everything I have had here. Southern Curry, Vindaloo, Butter Korma, Biryani...seriously...there is not a single item on this menu that has NOT titillated my taste buds. I ask for everything spicy...and they deliver. Spicy enough to slap you in the face and let you know where you are, but not so hot that you lose all sense of what you're eating. Freshly baked butter naan with an extra order of the garlic naan are always perfectly grilled and maintain just the right amount of bite and chew. Prices are reasonable, with generous amounts of food, delivered quickly. The staff is always friendly and engaging and typically remember every face coming through the doors. i'm sitting here with my just delivered Masala Wok. I was worried and the delivery fee of almost seven dollars was ridiculous. But I wanted to try a curry. I ordered the butter chicken, the #1 thing on the menu. It didn't taste like a curry at all, it just tasted like tons of black pepper. gross. So then I tried the Nan. It was hard like a cracker, like it had been sitting out for not one, but TWO DAYS. No way that was baked in the last six hours. So gross as hell I threw it all away. I was introduced to Masala Wok via their Cedar Park location and have been addicted ever since. When we moved to our new apartment right up the road, I was delighted to see a Masala Wok in the Pflugerville area. And right next to the Tech Ridge station too, so on days when I get off the bus in a grouchy heap, I can make my way over for some delicious Indian food. I've never tried their Asian fusion dishes, although from my guess there are probably plenty of other good places to get Chinese/Thai in the Austin area. The Indian food, though, is delicious! The ordering process is so simple - pick your meat (or tofu, which I get since I'm vegetarian), pick your sauce, pick any add-ons (like naan). You can also order pre-defined combinations. Food quality - awesome. I usually order the tikka masala or the saag (think of it like spinach curry), and both are always well-spiced (not too spicy, not too bland) and a great consistency (not too goopy, not too thick). Naan is always warm and the garlic naan is well made so that it is not overpoweringly garlicky. I love their samosas for appetizers too - great for sharing since the portion size is pretty large. Portions - huge! I can easily get 2 meals out of a standard order. To-go boxes separate the sauce and the basmati rice too, so you don't have soggy rice and can mix as you see fit. Service - I usually order take-out, which is almost always ready before their estimated time online. I've dined in twice, and both times the servers have been attentive and food has come out quickly, even with a fairly full restaurant. Pricing - standard, about $10 for a dinner meal... but if you don't eat very much like me, that's two meals for $5 each, which is a definite win. Are there better Indian places that are a little more "authentic"? Yeah. But they are so out of the way and much pricier. Highlight of my expensive lunch ($13 for wrap, salad, soda) was the nice (somewhat chubby) lady who took our plates once done. Smiled and just came off as really motherly. Give her a raise. Outside of that, the food was terrible. My salad left such a bad aftertaste, I needed to brush my teeth as soon as I got back to the office. The nan bread used in my wrap was not soft, tasted very store bought. Chicken and cheese within was okay. I asked the food to be spicy, not even close. I'll order online and they'll have it ready for pick-up within 20 minutes, very consistent. Of all the chain asian / indian restaurants, this might be our favorite. I've been to Masala Wok twice and I have to say, if it hadn't been the behest of a good friend I might not have even tried it. I mean, it's in a weird strip mall location and it's behind some bank and I just never would even have known it was there had it not been for my friend who opened my eyes. The concept is fast Indian/Asian food, which, as far as I can tell no one else in Austin is doing. I've had both the Chicken Biryani, Thai Pepper Fried Rice (with Chicken) and vegetable samosas. They make the heat to order (mild, medium or hot for the brave), which is nice. The Biryani was awesome with the perfect seasoning and heat. I always forget to order it without the half raw onion on top - don't make that mistake. The samosas are fine although they taste as though they were made a couple days prior. I wish they tasted fresher and were brought out warmed. The mint sauce on the side is refreshing and a perfect compliment to the creamy potato of the samosa. Where is the chicken in the Thai Pepper Fried Rice? Seriously, show me the chicken! Other than that the Thai Fried Rice is spicy, spicy, spicy with veggies, veggies, veggies. Fast and casual Chindian (ha!) food in a nice setting. You know it's a decent joint when most of the clientele on a Sunday night are of Indian descent. It's unusual to have Indian and Chinese food under one roof, but it really works! I'm just bummed I didn't think of it. The vindaloo and tikka masala are all tasty and full of fragrant spices. My boyf did have a complaint that the medium spicy is not spicy enough for him. The naan is not the best I've had, but no major complaints either. I think the restaurant can improve on their rice - needs to be fluffier and more flavorful. On the Chinese side, the blazing noodles was cooked perfectly! Just the right amount of spice, veggies, and noodles. I didn't even need any soy sauce! The staff was friendly and extremely helpful - I think the owner was assisting us one night. If it's a Sunday night and your family can't decide on whether they want Chinese or Indian, you don't have to choose, why not have both!? read more

We went recently to Austin to handle some business. My hubby was in the mood for some Indian food and so we decided to check out this spot which was close to the hotel. I can tell you right now, I was NOT disappointed. My husband and I both had chicken. He had the curry and I had the tikka. OMG, first let me say this was a very nice spot. The staff was courteous and the restaurant was very clean. Also, they had a variety of healthy drinks which worked out because my hubby is steering clear of soda right now. The food taste really authentic and had such flavor. I also liked the fact that this place was fusion so they had other Asian dishes to choose from. I don't claim to be an Indian food expert because the closest I've come to eating Indian food is the curry at your local Thai restaurant. But when my coworkers took me here one day and after one bite into my spinach masala with paneer, I thought I was in nirvana. I'm not sure how "authentic Indian" food taste but I also don't quite care when there's a Masala Wok around. Pros: Alot of rice dishes are very saucy. The paneer (tofu-like cheese) is just absolutely mouth-watering-delicious. Prices aren't too steep compared to the size of your portions. Cons: I've always stayed away from Indian food because people would always say, "when you eat it, you'll smell it." Unfortunately this is quite true because when I got back into the office, everyone knew I went out for Indian. My advice to you is, try not to wear anything fancy into there because it's going to smell like the masala you just ate until you clean it. The dishes come in 3 types of spiciness as well. I ordered "mild" but it really should be called no spicy. If you like rice, sauces, and aromatic foods, then don't wok away from this place. Much like a Pei Wei they have a wide variety of food for a reasonable price. All the food was fresh and very tastey. They don't have beef though... Average place if you are looking for fast-casual Asian and/or Indian food. The food itself was just fine, and I'd be willing to try it again, but there wasn't anything special or stellar that stood out to me. The restaurant could've been a little cleaner, and lacked ambiance, so that made our experience less enjoyable. The chain's concept was intriguing to me, but it seems like the execution needs a little more operational attention. To start, we shared garlic naan and an order of samosas. Samosas were the best part of the meal - hot, flaky, and well spiced. Garlic naan had almost no garlic on it and was pretty dry. For my entree, I got paneer butter masala, and it had very little tomato essence or spice flavor. My husband got the Masala Wok Spicy with vegetables, and it had a nice spice to it, but wasn't very interesting. We had no real complaints about the food, but no real compliments either. The only upside is that if you're with a group, it's nice that there is an option to pick between Asian and Indian cuisines. If that isn't a big draw for you, there are many better choices in the Austin area. read more

The first time I ordered out from here, I personally picked up the food. I got the Paneer Tikka Masala Curry Bowl (spice level: super hot) and Mango Lassi. Both were really tasty and I was very satisfied with the food. Definitely would have recommended then (this was a few months ago). Craving Indian more recently, I ordered delivery, but this time got the Mango Lassi, Gobi Manchurian, and Paneer 65 Bowl. The paneer was very disappointing, it was just paneer in red dye. The only saving grace was the paneer tikka sauce it came with, but even that wasn't enough. Although I understand this isn't a curry bowl, it was just so dry, it left you unsatisfied and parched. Furthermore, the gobi didn't have the crispiness you'd expect, although this had more flavor than the paneer. Some may blame that on takeout, but I've gotten takeout before at other places and I've not had this issue. Naan and rice were what you'd expect to get. Overall, was very disappointed this time...it was as if I ordered from a completely different restaurant. It made even question if the only reason the Mango Lassi was good because it was ready-made. Although they don't claim to make fresh Mango Lassi, if that's the best thing to consume and it isn't even from here, that's a bit sad. Although I didn't plan to visit again, due to the fact that the restaurant my friend and I wanted to try was closed and this was the most convenient as they're open later (one good thing), we went again. This time, I didn't want to try the paneer, so tried the Thai Pepper Fried Rice. The dish lacked some spice (which was helpful to have hot sauce), and was rather oily, but overall not too bad- 3/5. My friend's Chicken Tikka Masala was also rated pretty average. Even though the food was average this time, the customer service was so bad it solidified this place as somewhere I'd never want to dine again. Some of the workers definitely had an attitude for no good reason, which I wouldn't have minded since it's on par with the type of quick eats place this is, but even the few instances we had to interact with the staff, it was unnecessarily poor. It hurts me to write this. The food is good and that's about it. I'm not sure why the change. No more silverware or plates...I mean I know it's not the Ritz but come on! I thought this was a tray for a prisoner.(see attached) The soda,STUBBORN, is just a complete disappoint. It does live up to its name sake in the fact that it refuses to taste good. Let me preface by saying that I come here often enough to know the difference in my order. I get the chicken tikka masala with rice and naan to go every time. Most of the time the rice is in the smaller section of the to go container with the sauce in the larger portion. A handful of times these will be switched with the large section filled with rice and just a small amount of sauce. I feel as if I'm being cheated out of my money when this happens. Browsing through pictures I can see that the sauce is normally in the larger portion of the to go container. Why are you so stingy, Tech Ridge location? We went to Masala Wok on a whim...and we went there because there were so many good Yelp reviews. Not that I'm blaming anyone... HAHAHA I like vegetarian Indian food and I ordered the vegetable/potato balls in the same butter masala sauce as the Chicken. The chicken butter masala came out with a TON of chicken on it. My dinner had 3 tiny vegetable "sausages" (these looked like small breakfast sausage links about the size of my pinky finger). The amount of food was so different...we almost couldn't believe it. The price of the two dinners was almost the same. I wish I could post photos! Also...the naan was just mediocre... We ordered from your Tech Ridge location this evening as we have on many an occasion. I ordered tikka masala with chicken, my husband ordered the northern curry with tofu as we have several times before. When we got home, my tikka masala looked and tasted off. I've ordered this dish more times than I care to count, I know what it should taste like so I contacted the store and not only did your employee not identify himself on the phone, but he took a message to relay to his manager. I received a call back from the same employee, not the manager, who told me that the only way I would get a refund was if I brought the food back. First of all, I suspect your employees used the same serving utensil for both dishes as the tikka masala tasted and smelled like the northern curry. That being the case, you'll be lucky if the health department doesn't pay them a visit. Second, my husband works in the restaurant industry and was flabbergasted that not only did that manager not handle the complaint directly but requesting the customer bring back the food? So lose our email address, take us off your rewards program and get your house in order because you lost our business. BTW there needs to be a zero star rating. read more

Pretty decent indian/chinese food here for a small chain. My go to dish is the vegetable tikka masala which is a creamy tomato based sauce with sauteed vegetables. They can do the sauce vegetarian which is what I like or with meat...the sauce is just delicious with naan. I'd also suggest the American Chop Suey noodles which is a sweet/sour/spicy sauce with vegetables in it covered with a bed of crispy noodles. Overall this place is a pretty decent, casual indo-chinese fusion place which will be wallet friendly...check it out! read more
