This was the first place I went in Cleveland as it was down the street from the Hampton where I stayed. Great selection of beer and the pizza was really good. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't add pepperoni to a different pizza but they said they can't customize. Not a big deal. I love checking out breweries whenever we visit a new city, and Masthead was the first one that popped up when I searched for some in the Cleveland area. Masthead is a huuuuge modern style brewery with long beer garden tables so there's plenty of seating, along with a few high top tables near the tanks. In regards to beer, I started with the Falling Fruit brewed with apples and peaches - not too sweet, super easy to drink. My boyfriend got the Nitro Stout which was AMAZING. We couldn't get over how smooth and dark chocolate-y it was! Wish we could've gotten a growler of it. We later got a flight of 4 for $10. We tried the Tiramisu one, Smoothie IPA (Just released the day we were there), Flagship IPA, and Amber Ale. None of them disappointed. My favorite out of those were the Smoothie IPA and the Tiramisu. We got three pizzas and split them. I got the Reuben pizza which I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT HANDS DOWN BEST PIZZA IVE EVER TRIED. My boyfriend got the 4 cheese, he said it was really good, and his brother got the basil pesto which was also great. Overall, it was great affordable beer, with amazing pizza, and an awesome space! I had a great experience at Masthead being back home with my family. It has a very cool, industrial feel to it. I tried a flight of beer, and my family shared the Hawaiian, Pepperoni, and Mushroom pizzas. I would definitely recommend the Single Origin Coffee Stout to anyone that enjoys those flavors. Five stars for the beer and also a plus that they have great pizza and edibles. I'm a big fan of Belgians and they had three variations on tap-all were fantastic. I also had to try the nitro coffee stout. Y'all this was like a beer latte! It even had froth on top-yum!!! Well Done! The beer was great... loved all the tasters we had. Easy drinking and well executed. The space was fantastic. We love bringing our kids with us for Foodie and Beer adventures, and it suited us well. We could spread out, read books, play games, etc... and not worry about getting in people's way, being too loud, etc. My kids absolutely demolished the pizza's they ordered and my husband and I loved ours as well. It is rare that my kids eat so much, and they absolutely loved it! I loved my experience at Masthead so much that we decided to go back today but were disappointed to find out they are closed on Sunday! That's OK, we will be back again, can't wait!!! Awesome addition to downtown Cleveland. Came here with a small group on a Friday night right around dinner time and luckily were able to get our own high-top table. Staff was super friendly. It's serve yourself, so head up to the bar to order your beer and place your food menu. They give you a buzzer for your food and once it's done you grab it from the kitchen area. All the beer was really great and the staff happily allowed us to sample a few. They brew the beer in-house and also had a few Fat Heads varieties on draft. Their own jalapeno IPA was very unique & packed just the right punch. For food we all got pizza and they did not disappoint. Awesome to see a vegan pizza on the menu and not just having to omit the cheese. The spicy Italian tofu "sausage" was UNREAL. Never have I stumbled upon a menu with that protein substitute and it was so so delicious, even the carnivores at the table really enjoyed the vegan pizza. The crust is thin but soft and baked to perfection. YUM. I would go back again and again if I lived in Cleveland. Very fun atmosphere, fast service, and wonderful staff. First time here and LOVED it. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed beers, I had the fruit beer and he had the coffee stout, both we're so good. We both ordered our own pizza, which one pizza was (more than) enough for each of us. The pizza was SO GOOD. I personally loved the crust. This place is a hidden gem! The beer is great and fairly priced. I love "Wit" and highly recommend it. We got a pretzel and some pizzas. All were good, just a bit cold when they came out, but not too much to complain about. The roasted zucchini pizza was like nothing we've ever had. It had goat cheese, onions, olives, and zucchini and it was awesome! The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The staff repeatedly checked on us. The place has tons of room and huge tables that are great for large parties along with more intimate tables. It's a laid back atmosphere that's great for a casual night. Good beer, good atmosphere. It's a really nice place to have a chill drink with friends. There are lots of long tables with plenty of room, and large garage type doors that look like they'd open when the weather is nice. Although I didn't make a reservation, there was a birthday party going on near where we sat so it looks like you can call ahead an reserve a table or two if you know you're going to have a big group. Just be careful the smaller tables outside dont seem to be properly weighted do of you have a couple people on one side and less on the other, when someone gets up the table may tip. LOVE the vibe in this place and their beers are top notch! The food is pretty solid, but that's not why we go there. Staff is really cool and friendly and even though there's usually a line to order a beer, it goes relatively quickly. The communal seating is really great. Lots of room and we almost always strike up a conversation with strangers. My only issue is parking. There are a dozen or so spots at meters out front, but if those are full, plan to walk a block or so. Another great brewery to add to the "must visit" list in Cleveland! We ventured there on a chilly evening, and even in the throws of a Cleveland winter, there were lots of people mingling inside. The space is an open, industrial warehouse but still looked modern and clean. We immediately noticed that there were areas of the bar that were blocked off and designated for ordering & paying for beer only- PURE GENIUS. It seemed to work out flawlessly and removed the need to push your way up to the bar or awkwardly smushing yourself into someone's conversation to get the bartender's attention. We got ourselves a seat at the bar and ordered two flights, which covered most of the house made beers on their list. Although unassumingly named ("wit", "stout", "blond ale"...), they were all pretty good beers (confirmed by my boyfriend who is much more of a beer snob than I am). The Wit in particular is probably the best wit I've ever tasted- sweet but not saccharine sweet; hint of spices, like curacao...whatever that is. We ordered stuffed cherry peppers which were surprisingly delicious, coming from someone who doesn't like peppers as well as a prosciutto pizza. You can order at the bar, they give you a buzzer, and when it rings, you pick your food up in the back near the huge brick oven. Both dishes we ordered were better than I expected for "bar food" in terms of quality. The most impressive thing about this place is its organization really. I was really impressed at how nicely laid out the bar and food ordering process is. They even had a little water keg with cups nearby set in the middle of the room so people could pour their own. Plenty of seating including long social picnic tables as well as intimate 2 person high seaters in the back. It seems like the owners put some good thought into opening this place, so kudos. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good. I got to try a bunch of stuff. There is an appetizer of goat cheese stuffed dates. There are four to an order. They were good, but are really, heavily stuffed with goat cheese. They are stuffed more than any other place's stuffed dates. I also tried the Brussel sprout app. The serving size was large. The bacon was delicious. There were also onions. For being fire roasted the sprouts were less blackened than I had expected, but they were good! I'd order them again. For pizzas I got to try a bit of three. On all three the crust was very thin. The Nduja Sausage pizza with red sauce was great. The toppings were slightly sparse, but the flavors were still strong. It was the spiciest of the three I tried topped with peppadew peppers, olives and oregano. The prosciutto pizza was tasty, though my least favorite of the three. It was covered in a decent amount of prosciutto slices. There was also a menu of white sauce pizzas. I actually liked the ham pizza off the white menu the best; it had a sweater sauce. The house beer list is smaller (6) and stout heavy (3), but they also had a good IPA and a cocktail menu. This place is structured so that you order at the bar (both food and drinks), even if sitting at the seat yourself tables (there are a several four top tables, but mostly long communal benches). You then pick up your food at the kitchen counter. While I always prefer waiter service the system worked well here and flowed smoothly especially for being so new. Plates and napkins were on the tables, but silverware were beneath the kitchen counter. Staff did come around and clear the tables in a timely fashion. For being newly opened this place had most of its kinks worked out already so I was impressed. read more

Coming into the brewery, I was caught by surprise how spacious it is! Plenty of benches and tables to sit or stand for large events. I was here for a college basketball game and though there was a line at the bar to order, the line went by fairly quickly and the bartenders were very nice. I had a wheat beer and a porter and both of them were delicious. When you order food, they give you a beeper and you go and pick up when your food is ready. One thing I will say that was a negative for me was though the pizza was good, it was so so thin. I don't mind thin crust but I could see through the pizza. Me and my friend split two pizzas and we were still hungry! I do like the aura of the place, you see the brewery and where they ferment in the back. Definitely would come here for another drink. But if you or I are hangry- we might want to pick a different place. read more

Their beer menus are detailed, with ABVs, cost, and description of the beer. Although not spectacular, their beers are solid and very fairly priced ($8 for four samples); they've rotated some of their taps every 3-4 weeks. There's about 10-12 on draft, about 6-7 are from Masthead. Food-wise, the menu is limited but what they do, is done well; I've been here 4 times and ordered pizzas all 4 times and they all have been cooked properly. Limited cheese, thin crust, and not greasy. I haven't waited more than 20 minutes for a pizza even on the weekend evenings. Besides 10 pizzas or so, there's a handful of appetizers. Atmosphere, it's laid-back with open ceilings, concrete floor, wooden picnic tables that you seat-yourself. It can be a tad noisy when its busy due to the acoustics of the room. Good for larger groups of 10, 20, etc. There's also a smaller section of 2-4 top tables as well. There's no server, you go up to the bar to order but I've found the bartenders always extremely attentive, friendly, and organized. Big Kudos there. They aren't amazing (and that's still a compliment) but a solid edition to the downtown area. Carry on. read more

If you are going here to simply get a beer, you will have a nice experience. Their selection of in-house beers are quite good, particularly their chili stout. If you are planning to eat there, prepare to be very disappointed by a very limited menu and a long wait time for your food to be prepared. I ordered a simple pepperoni pizza that wasn't ready after I waited over forty minutes and the rest of our order (a prosciutto salad and an appetizer which, to their credit, were both quite good) came out 25 minutes earlier. When I complained about it, I got nothing but excuses and no effort to give any refund on the purchase. At that point I had already paid for our dinner when I ordered it with our beers, so they really couldn't have cared less that half our order was never prepared. Regardless of how many people are in a bar, how hard is it to make a pepperoni pizza in less than 40 minutes? Also, how does it take almost 20 minutes to make a basic salad? The incompetent managers and staff of this place need to spend less time worrying about how to make this a hip place and spend more time and investment figuring out how to have their food be prepared faster. read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood! With so many breweries popping up in Cleveland-this is definitely one to check out. I really liked how you put in your drink order, through a single file line rather than fighting through the chairs at the bar to get the bartenders attention. Huge place! Went to two of the soft openings and had a great time both times. Beer is great, currently 6 brews on draft (I like the spiced stout the most) but they have 3 stouts, an IPA, wheat beer, and a blonde ale. There are other drafts on tap as well from a few other breweries. They also serve wine and have liquor for mixed drinks. Plenty of seating, and parking is good as well. There's metered parking and a parking garage in the back so no need to worry about it. The food is awesome. The pizzas are just the right size to split for two people + an app for a good meal. There was not an appetizer or a pizza that I tried that wasn't good! the pizza/other food is cooked in a huge pizza oven and you can see exactly how everything is made. The bartenders/wait staff were helpful as well and there are plenty of them so you won't have to worry about waiting long for a drink. Overall it's definitely worth checking out as I plan on going back myself. It's going to be a great place to visit all year round. read more

Sorry to say that I have some mixed feelings about this place! It's still new, so I want to give them some wiggle room, but overall my impression was not great... The atheistic of the brewery is great, and it's very roomy, which is a big plus in my book. For being very busy when I was there, it never got too loud, which is another big plus! We tried the sampler of beers, and enjoyed all of them- even the stout, and I am NOT a stout fan. But then there's the food. We initially ordered a pizza that was vegetarian, based on the menu. When it arrived, it was a lovely looking pizza, but clearly has sausage on it. We were very sad and embarrassed to send it back, but the staff were very gracious about it. That is, except for the cook, who rolled his eyes when the pizza was returned. The 2nd pizza we received seemed to be of a totally different caliber- the middle crust was soggy, and the toppings were soupy. The could have been the result of different toppings, but I still found it strange... and not very enjoyable. Again, it's not a bad place, and I still recommend it if you're looking for good beer, and not necessarily seeking food! read more

Great place. HUGE Space. Great Microbrew choices. Pale Ales, Stouts and Pilsner. You really can't go wrong. I like this place a lot. It's a bit different from most other newer brewpubs in that it has a huge open seating area with large picnic-style tables. When the garage doors are open on a warm day, it just feels wide open. I've not had anything other than the pizza, but they've all been good and they come up quickly from the oven. This was another stop on are list when visiting Cleveland this past weekend, and this was definitely one of my favorites! It is so big here!! There are multiple TVs, it's nice and organized and have the menus right when you walk in. I actually ended up trying one of their guest craft beers- the blueberry one from fatheads which was amazing!!! My husband tried one of their masthead IPAs which he absolutely loved! We decided to also give their everything pretzel a try, as we are big on pretzels! May I just say, their everything pretzel was the best pretzel I ever had! It came with a mustard, a ipa honey mustard, and this interesting yet amazing cheese- it was a cold cheese and man it was the most delicious thing ever. I highly recommend getting that pretzel as I want to go back already and get another! They also have an outdoor area where their garages open up and you can go outside in the summer.
