This might be the best food in Albuquerque. We are mostly vegetarian and loved all the selections for vegan and vegetarian food. What a treat to have so many choices to pick from. Everything healthy and tasted amazing. The food was super fresh and very flavorful. They follow COVID protocol better than any place I've eaten since this all started. It was very clean. Our hands were sanitized before we could touch the food and drinks. Masks, no cash, no indoor seating - cute outdoor patio which was cleaned. Prices were high though, so just be ready. The owner's insistence on violating the New Mexico constitution by refusing to take cash - which is protected legal tender here - is troubling, and reason enough for me to not shop at his store. If you're a vegetarian who recently arrived in Albuquerque, this place is the perfect starting point. My wife and I needed to get some food after a long day of flying, and the food and beverages at Mata G were exactly what we needed. Each dish we got was absolutely delicious. I had the Moroccan bowl and the grilled tofu in the kebabs was perfect, some of the most flavorful tofu I've had, marinated through and through. The Mexican bowl was also splendid and had just the right amount of spice to it. The standout for me, though, was the tofu salad which reminded me wonderfully of egg salads and potato salads between the flavour and texture. On the beverage side I can attest that the strawberry lassi had just the right mix of tang and sweetness and was incredibly refreshing. The business model is interesting, and I'm curious if it's a post-covid one, but everything is to go. Food is freshly made that day and put in to go containers so you pick your meal a la carte and they heat it up for you right there. It makes it a great way to get your delicious food and head out to explore. They also have an outdoor dining area if you just want to sit down and eat right then and there. My only critique would be that they don't have any capacity to recycle the to go containers, though I don't know if that's an internal issue or a difficulty with local recycling practices. Regardless, if you're willing to hold onto the containers and recycle them yourself, it's still a fantastic place to eat. We couldn't have found a better starting point for our Albuquerque adventure! read more

So many different, creative flavors and types of food here. We had Moroccan eggplant stew, a Punjabi chickpea burrito, some sort of Thai noodles, and an eggplant flatbread. All delicious, with subtle spices and packed with flavor. I was disappointed initially by the takeout style because we had wanted to sit down, but I ended up loving the ease of getting food for later and also being able to see all the options in front of us. Very high quality food with beautiful presentation, but very egotistical /bombastic owner and uncomfortable employer/ employee dynamics to witness. On the one hand, I can appreciate standards and passion for the best of the best. On the other hand, it's hard to be around someone who is treating their staff like they can't do anything and micromanaging them/ harassing them abt not doing this or that. The food is also super high priced for the ABQ standard and uses a lot of packaging so it's not ideal unless you are picking up something to go. I'll have to give it some more chances but have been here twice and didn't think it was that special. read more

Mata is a hidden gem in Albuquerque!!! We came upon this spot for coffee and were greeted by Gurubachan Kaur Khalsa who explained today 15 anniversary of the death of her spiritual teacher. In his honor, she generously offered us dahl and rice. It was fantastic! We each enjoyed iced coffee and a yummy vegetarian brownie. I'm not a vegetarian so honestly I didn't know what to expect. What I quickly learned is that it didn't matter. All the dishes (yes I said dishes because I took several home) were absolutely amazing. I have decided that the green chili mac & cheese and the Mexican bowl are my favorites. Outside of the food being delicious the staff are friendly and welcoming. Convenient spot to quickly pick up vegetarian and vegan meals, snacks, and side dishes. Everything on the menu is pre-prepared and available in the cooler display near the entrance. This makes for a quick process, and the food was still fresh tasting. You can also ask for something to be heated up. We grabbed a table outside to eat. I had the kale salad, which was topped with roasted chick peas, shredded carrots, pumpkin seeds, and craisins. The dressing, which comes on the side, was tangy and worked well with the other ingredients. For $10, the salad was filling, though very simple. My partner tried the tofu salad sandwich (only $6) which he deemed to be a rare and exciting option. He said the flavor and texture of the bread and tofu were fine, but found it messy to eat because the tofu salad was served between two pieces of lettuce causing things to slip out with each bite. I used the Yelp check in offer for a free lemonade. I was given a small, partially filled cup of the mint flavored option. Though the cashier seemed reluctant, I enjoyed the refreshing flavor. A buttery/biscuit type cookie with raspberry jam had caught my partner's eye, so I purchased one for dessert. The cookie was nice, though could have used more jam. And I'm not sure how much it cost. Wished I had asked for an itemized receipt as somehow my total was around $22 (before tip). This place seems well-intentioned and presents a quick and healthy lunch option. "Italian Hot Dish" is actually prepackaged in a plastic container in a cooler. It may have been fine but we did not end up getting it because it was COLD. I'm sorry , but if the name of the food is called "hot dish" and it is COLD then there is something a bit deceiving about that. We assumed ordering online was their preferred way of paying due to covid and there was a giant "order online" button on their homepage. When we arrived and they handed us the cold pre-packaged entrees we said "no thank you, we'd like a refund." While they were very willing to do this and said this happens often, it was extremely complicated for them to sort out (to no fault of the women working there). The owner or management needs to take care of this and put a note at the top of their ordering page and website to say that all food is currently served cold and packaged due to covid. Then there would not be any miscommunication or disappointed customers. The employees said that this happens a lot, but it shouldn't. read more

Finally! Albuquerque has a fabulous vegetarian restaurant with options. Happens to be in Nob Hill. The vegetarian concept isn't an "after thought", but first class with fresh leading the way. The foods doesn't hide behind anything - the flavor is REAL, the vitality is evident. I'll see if the menu is posted, if not I will do that. Pretty much need to eat my way through the entire menu and everything so far is delicious. The interior is modern with a West Coast vibe; a total revamp from the prior space. They did a great job swapping where the old kitchen was to bring the light into the space and open it up. Did I mention it's spotless in there? My only sadness is they close at 6pm....so only early dinner is an option, or take out, but breakfast/lunch all you want. I stopped by this restaurant on my way from ABQ to Durango, and the food was phenomenal! I loved the spicy tempeh wrap, pita, Mediterranean protein tray, Mexican plate, and matcha cookie (I ordered enough for lunch and dinner for two days). There were multiple vegan options in comparison to the vegetarian options. It didn't feel like most vegetarian restaurants where vegans have to take off all of non-vegan items from their order. The entire staff was so kind and friendly, and it felt like they really appreciated every single one of their customers. They even set me up a table outside just so that I could dine-in after a long day of travel. If I return to Albuquerque, I'll definitely stop by Mata G again! read more

I'm not even a vegetarian, but if I am anywhere near this place, or if I am at A New Mexico grocery store that sells their food, (thank God, there are stores in Santa Fe that sell their food) I purchase it! The Middle Eastern dishes are amazing, the Indian dishes are amazing, and the Mexican dishes are also amazing. All of the beverages are worth their weight in gold. I love Mata G! Today was the first time I have ever tasted beet lasagna. It was so good I was ready for seconds. You will have completely changed your mind about beets after tasting this lovely creation. I am lucky enough to have Mata G foods carried at the downtown grocery store, Silver Street Market which I can walk to. I have tried several items, but tonight I am blown away by the tofu salad! I served it on a bed of organic greens sprinkled with hemp hearts and it's just perfect. I can't wait to go in to Mata G proper and have more of a selection of what I can choose. I had dinner there tonight, and felt like it was overpriced for what I was getting. The bad part is you have to leave a tip wBochum makes the dinner much more expensive. And the food was fair but not great. I really like the design job they did. You can't tell that that it was a pancake house so five stars for that. I will continue going to Dion's though.
