Terrible experience! Contacted parts dept about having tires replaced on 21 subaru outback with same original tires on vehicle. Was told tires were in stock so scheduled appt. Upon check in requested multi-point inspection as well. After 90 min of waiting was informed tires were not in stock and then that incorrect size tires were ordered so repairman was on his way to pick up correct size. I had option to wait or have original tires put back on vehicle and re-schedule appt. Was told I would receive consideration with bill as well. After 4 hrs vehicle was ready with same brand but different model tires, no inspection report, $60 compensation, and rims covered in lube still. Had to ask for a cloth to wipe rims which service advisor then quickly wiped off. Never again! Should have went to a reputable tire center vs expecting the dealership to provide decent service. read more

Just purchased a car on Dec 2021 and got a call for license plate pickup, I went in and got license plates and the lady's name was Ashley who asked do you have a car here? I say yes, she came out and put license plate and took the license frame out. I realized later that no license plate frame and called her back, she said only give the frame to temporary license plate not permanent license. What a weird policy. read more

I am very disappointed with the care my mother received when she brought her car in for routine maintenance. They falsely claimed my 88-year-old mother complained about "the throttle body" which cost $196. They stated my mother claimed that the battery was dead, which she did not and drove it there with no problem---which they then charged her $433 for a new battery ($323) and labor ($110) to replace. She went in requesting an oil change and tire rotation. This 'routine maintenance' cost her more than $1000. I cannot recommend nor will I ever trust Ourisman Tri-State Suburu. read more

My poor husband bought a pre-owned 2018 outback from this dealership that had wheels out of alignment. This caused unnecessary wear and tear on the tires and needed to be fixed. This was discovered at an out-of state dealership-- apparently the warranty for certified pre-owneds is only honored at the dealership you buy from, not subaru as a whole, so he had to bring the car back to Delaware to have this fixed. Unfortunately when he came for his appointment, someone took the keys and the VIN number down and he left the car for him. He leaves the dealership and doesn't get a call for hours, he returns an hour before closing and apparently because he didn't walk in and talk to a service representative they did not work on the car. In my humble opinion if you take someone's key's and their car you should verbally direct them to the next person they need to talk to, or give them a call when you have the car and no service is being done!!!! It's just courtesy. Upon leaving my husband tells me that the guy who works there says this happens all the time. To customers, make sure you go inside when they take your car for your scheduled appointment, don't assume you're ok because they took your keys. Matt Slap--- if this is happening all the time, change your protocol or be better about directing your customers where to go when they come for service. ***** Dealership did provide him with a loaner car (with an empty tank of gas, smells of cigarettes) and has offered to do the car on next available business day. read more

Lmao! Where do I even start? We took our Subaru Legacy to Matt Slap for an oil change and a checkup on a weird sound from the wheels. Sounds simple, right? Turns out it's not. Not only did their 'master mechanic' say he couldn't find the issue until we showed him the very common Subaru problem, but while they had our car for three(3!!) days for the oil change and CV joint replacement, they put a 2 foot scratch on the side of the car. Thank goodness we took pictures before we dropped off the car. Matt Slap said they would fix it and they did - after taking 2 months to get paint scheduled with their outsourced painter. Anyway, we brought the legacy back and they said give them a day or two to paint and we'll be all good. Cut to a week and a half later and we get the car back, but half the rear door handle turned out to be broken off and fell off immediately when I closed the door. Low and behold, the part was broken during paint and the painter just rolled with it. How does that even happen? We contacted them immediately and once again we were back for a 2 day repair. We got the car back again and it's making new strange sounds now. Keep in mind this is a relatively new car. Anyway, 6 months after the oil change our car is mostly functional. I should have just let our 6 year old neighbor try, paid the 2 chocolate bars, and have the same amount of damage for 670% less money. But, Serena was nice. read more

I wish i could leave 0 stars. This is absolutely the worst experience getting car maintenance done that I have ever had. I came from out of state, so I wasn't able to go to my favorite mechanic for my routine oil change. I took my car in the morning and was told the oil change would take an hour or two. After 4 hours of not hearing anything, I called back asking if they were finished. The woman said it would be another 15 minutes so I got a ride back down to the dealership. I called again 30 minutes later since I hadn't heard, and I was told my car was completely taken apart in the shop and all the mechanics had left for the day!!! I asked why my car was taken apart and they said it was because I needed a new catalytic converter. WHICH I HAD NEVER AsKED FOR!!! I came in for an oil change! I even called my mechanic back home to ask about the catalytic converter and he said that i definitely did not need a new cat, and under pretty much no circumstances would anybody need emergency catalytic converter replacement. I went back to pick up my car first thing in the morining. Sure enough, I arrived and parts had been taken out of my car. I don't know a lot about cars but it didn't look like any typical oil change. They offered to run a diagnostic on the computer to "prove" that I needed a new cat, and in my frustration I took the bait. They tried to charge me for an oil change and a diagnostic. I am just glad I got my car back and it runs. PLEASE be smart and take your business elsewhere. read more

Laura checks the box with everything in regards to selling you a Vehicle. She is knowledgeable, friendly, listens to your needs and really makes the process less anxious and stressful. The knowledge of the Vehicles Laura sells is incredible! She is exactly to person you hope to run into at a Dealership. My Wife, Sister and Mother all have Subaru's now. Laura is a Friend to us now, a Friend we met selling us a Vehicle, now that saying something! I'm guessing Finance doesn't get mentioned much in reviews, however Greg who took care of our paperwork was absolutely on point. This is our 2nd time going thru this process with Greg, just like the last time, it was smooth and not confusing at all. I had only a couple of questions after he was finished going over the details, Greg knows his work well and I was in and out quickly thanks to his preparation. When I left his Office, I knew exactly what I signed and what to expect next. The next part in our purchase was going over the Vehicle with Ashley. She knew the Vehicle so well inside and out, you would think she built it! Ashley was ready to go over all of the components of the Vehicle for me. I did have some questions, even though I have Subaru's now. Ashley had me connected to the vehicle before I left the Dealership, she is extremely helpful and you will know the Vehicle well after she is done going over it with you. Before I finish, I would like to mention the wonderful Service Department too. We have been taking our Vehicles there for service for years now. Service is just another part of the awesome Matt Slap Subaru experience. The service is way above what I expected, they are very friendly too, welcoming and they get your Vehicle in and out. They fixed my car once even when it was out of warranty for no fee. The prices charged for service is below what I thought a Dealership would charge too, another plus. Lastly, the time and effort I made for this review is out of the ordinary for me. The reason I did it, is because the Matt Slap Dealership is deserving of it from me. When you have an over the top experience every time you walk thru their doors, by everyone you see inside their doors, you want to give back to them in some way. I'm not happy with the service department. They present the customers in the waiting room with a filter (with 1/2 inch of dirt, lint, pine needles, seeds etc) and claim it is the cabin filter from their car which needs replacement. My husband had his 7,500 mile Outback service on his brand new car, and they presented him with the same filthy filter. Last time I was there, customers were talking about the filter scam and just waiting for the technician to bring it out. Sure enough, the service tech brought it out for all of us to see. What a joke!! Also, they told me that my tires were dry rotted and needed to be replaced. I reminded them that I bought the tires at Matt Slapp less than 15,000 miles ago. Whoops! I went in to MattSlap after going to two other subaru dealerships. I was warmly greeted by Mark Lloyd . He said " you seems like you're on a mission, can I help you with anything?" We went over to the 2017 outbacks talked about features, my price range and trade. We then went in. He told me what they would give me for my trade-in. Once I was happy with the trade in Mark said " lets test drive one!" So we went on a test drive and talked more about the cars feature and other non-car sales related conversation. I felt like he was just an average guy not trying to pressure me into anything. After the test drive was over Mark took me in and we started negotiating. I went in to financing with Tom Windett. He was great. He turned his computer screen so I could see and he went over everything. He said call if you need anything, i am hear to answer you questions. The process from start to finish took about 3.5 hours. He was so accommodating and offered drinks, snacks etc. Mark even offered to help me clean out my old car. The best part was the thorough run down of the vehicle. After all was said and done and I bought the car. He helped me sync my phone to the car. We went over the radio, Seats, Pretty much everything I could need and that took about 45 minutes. He was so helpful, kind and responsive. Once we were all said and done; he sincerely thanked me for buying a car. And said " call me if you need me. You are never wasting my time." I am 28-years-old, this was not my first time buying a car. I was treated like an adult which was a plus, and doesn't always happen. The infamous head gasket problem has had me swear off Subaru, unless / until they include a lifetime (time and mileage) head gasket warranty. I had an 03 Baja, great little car. But, the head gasket on one side failed, and I got it replaced, under warranty. 5 years later, the other side failed. What service SHOULD do, is replace the side that failed, which is what they do if warranty is paying for the repair. What they ACTUALLY do, is replace both sides, once it's on the customer's nickel. Doubled the cost of the repair, and convinced me it was time to sell the car. Overall they are a decent enough place, but that ripoff for over $3000 was simply inexcusable! As mentioned, lifetime warranty on head gaskets or whole engine, is the only way I will look at a Subaru again. Nice car, but that's a giant bear trap waiting for the owner, and one that crops up again every few model years. It's been a problem for 30-40 years now, and it keeps coming back. read more

Took our 2015 Forester in for another recall (rear coil springs) while there had them diagnose a usb/12 volt outlet issue and rotate tires. They determined that a fuse was blown and replaced that, they didn't charge which was nice. However, this was NOT the problem, the problem is worse than ever now, whenever something gets plugged into the USB a loud pop is heard and now the dash and radio go out and don't come back until the car is shut off and restarted after a few minutes. The tires never got rotated, they charged for this. I know they weren't rotated because there is one different tire on the car and it's still in the same location. Will never deal with this place again, will go to independent shops from now on if I can't fix it myself. Oh and they wanted $540 to put rear brakes on the car, and $300+ for spark plugs, that is insane pricing. Oh and $50 for an air filter which is available many places for under $10 read more

I stored my daughter's leased 2019 Subaru Impreza at my home while she traveled for business. I took it to Matt Slap Subaru for a recall when I was told that there was an interest in this model and a deal could be made for an early turn-in. She only had 5 months left on the lease and the car was well under expected mileage and in excellent shape. When my daughter returned home I told her that the car was in demand and booked at over $19,000. I suggested that she take it to Matt Slap and make the deal that they would probably treat her very well and it would establish a good relationship for a future lease or purchase. She took my advice and made the deal, but I was wrong... she dealt with Chris Mooney, the used car manager, who gave her the old salesman pitch of "It's all the market will bear" and she ended up waiting three days for a $181.44 check. Although I found the service department excellent, the sales department lost it's integrity with us. If they couldn't make an honest offer on a sweet deal like this, how could we expect an honest deal on a lease or purchase in the future. We won't be doing business at Matt Slap again. R. I get it. I had an unexpected trip and my previously planned oil change in 4 weeks came due 700 miles away from home. I handled my business in Newark and tried to get my oil changed inside my interval. After having 2/3 employees in service act as if I were invisible (the third was one the phone fussing about a coworker, really just whining and throwing a small tantrum), they told me it was too close to closing and maybe I should try Pep Boys. I hope there isnt one, but the next time yall make that suggestion, point the customer to the parts department for genuine filters and washers (you know, warranties). I have taken my car there several times for oil change and multipoint inspection too keep my car running properly and all of the sudden the break pads wear though! We had roof rails replaced due to damage and noticed a couple weeks later the inside of our door well was completely dented. Too late to complain. I'm sure the mechanic knew he dropped a power tool and damaged the 2018 crosstrek but decided to be a dirtbag and not mention it. Actually, it's my wife that has been the customer, but all of those who are married knows that no decisions are unilateral, especially when it comes to spending tens of thousands of dollars on cars. Our experience was good, but frankly not among the best car buying experiences I've had, but I cannot say that I've ever had a particularly "amazing" car experience. If I could suggest anything to the dealership/sales staff at matt slap, it's that while the bottom line monthly price of what I buy is important to me, I want to see the numbers! I want to know what you're saying you're charging me, and how it breaks down. The last time we purchased a car, about 3 weeks ago, it took almost wrestling the sales staff to the ground to actually see the invoice/MSRP/actual price breakdowns and itemization of the sale. The Subaru brand is ultimately the reason that my wife returned to purchase her second vehicle here. This dealership is on par with most car dealerships. I live in Wilmington Delaware and I am currently on vacation with my family. My Subaru was involved in the "stop drive" recall in 2016. They took my car for over 6 months and parked it in a field and assured me everything was going well and they were taking great care of it! WOW! On our family vacation the "well taken care of" car slips into neutral on a extremely busy highway going 65 MPH! I wanted to purchase a car that dropped in price daily because they wanted to get it off the lot. I filled out the application after they guaranteed a test drive before running my credit and finalizing everything. While I was waiting for the keys, they ran my credit anyway. Because my credit is good, they made excuses about why they wouldn't sell me this car, but suggested I get a newer car with less miles (therefore trying to pressure me into a different car for their benefit). I confronted them about what they did, which they tried to lie their way out of. Places such as this are the prime example of where NOT to buy a car due to shitty customer service. My wife and I visited the showroom to evaluate the new Forester, while we liked the new Forester (purchased a Forester Touring from Concordville Subaru), Matt Slap sales people displayed total indifference. We were told that the car we wanted wasn't available anywhere in the area and either buy what they had in stock or do without. We checked the internet and found multiple dealers with the car we wanted and purchased from Concordville Subaru. The Matt Slap salesperson had a horrible attitude, if you don't want the car we have in stock, tuff we will sell it to someone else and they aren't interested in "finding" what we wanted. read more

Have a 2015 Forester. Was having an issue with a metallic sound coming from under the engine bay. Took it to Matt Slap and they assured me the problem was front brakes. Since the car had 60,000 miles on it, brakes seemed reasonable and probably needed done anyway. Driving it home the car makes the exact same noise it did previous. Fast forward a couple of months and now the car is making a God awful sound. Contact another dealer and on the phone was told exactly what it was, bring the car in and $75 later whola no more noise. Also, asked for a tire rotation which was never done. Attn: Matt Slap if someone brings another car in for a noise like this, check the exhaust hanger. read more

It can be really scary when your car breaks down far from home. Even worse when you've skimped on AAA and don't have the plan to tow you back to your normal mechanic. The situation gets all the worse when you have to deal with a stereotypical dealership like Matt Slap. First though, I want to point out that I have no issue with the work itself. The mechanics fixed my car quickly and professionally. It was the service department representative, and the dealers policies that I have the problem with. I know having a broken down car towed to them is unexpected, but I felt that I was being price-gouged. When I called AAA, they were the only repair shop within a reasonable towing distance for my plan. I knew exactly what the problem was (fuel pump), and after I dropped it off, I had some escapades getting to my parents house to borrow a car. I eventually got home and did a bit of research into how much the repair should cost me. I found that the part itself should cost between 125 -200 for an aftermarket knockoff, up to 330 for the stock part. I figured a 30% dealer markup would be customary. So I was expecting about 400+ for the part, 200 for the labor, and another 50 for the fuel filter, for a total of about 650. Steep, but understandable. So I got the call the next morning, and the estimate was 850. I asked where this was coming from, and he said that the were charging me 550 for the aftermarket part. I said that seemed like a lot (nearly 200% markup), and asked if it would save money to go with a stock part. He told me the stock part would be 650 (100% markup). I told him this seemed really high, and he said it was their standard 25% markup on the prices their parts supplier gave him. I think this is kind of a cop-out, passing the buck to the supplier. I told him to hold off, and I checked some brick and mortar suppliers. Autozone and Pep Boys both told me they could have the aftermarket part ordered in 2 -5 days for 200. I called my regular mechanic, and they said their supplier could have it for me that afternoon, for 420. Like I said, I understand some markup, so I told them to order it. I ended up driving the part from Philly to Delaware, then getting a ride down to pick up my car the next day. In the end I saved myself almost 200. I know this is my first really negative review, so I held off 2 weeks so that I wasn't writing it angry. I got really pissed at being price gouged. I get capitalism and markups, but charging double he list price of a part is gouging, pure and simple. Whether it was Matt Slap Subaru, or their supplier behind the curtain doing the gouging I can't say, but it's this type of thing that gives dealers a bad wrap. read more

I don't like to post anything negative online. However, after only having bad experiences here, I feel obliged to. This is one of the most disorganized places I have been. It started off when I bought the car. I received a quote online for a 2014 forester and was told to come in and that three were in stock. When I showed up about an hour later, the sales guy told me there were no 2014 foresters and instead pushed the 2015 for a much higher price and wouldn't let go. I ended up purchasing a Forester and when I got home, noticed a large scratch across the car. I called in and told them and they originally told me I must have scratched the car. Impossible considering it went from the dealer to the garage. They had me bring it in and I had to get a loaner one day after buying the car for a week. About a few weeks later, they called frantically asking for me to send in a check that they lost for a down payment. When I told them I would send another check they insisted I drive there. I told them if they needed it they can come to Wilmington to pick it up. They asked me to overnight it. Then, my first oil change took two hours. By the time of my second oil change, I made sure I had the first appointment at 7am to ensure I didn't have to wait 2 hours for a quick oil change. When I showed up at 7am, there were a few walk-ins that they let in before me and worked on their issues rather than mine (who had an appt), and the oil change again took 2 hours. This place is just filled with awful experiences. If you are going to buy a Subaru, I HIGHLY encourage you to go to the several other dealerships nearby and not here. read more

The location, facilities and cars were great. But we had come in, knowing we were going to buy a Crosstrek and left feeling very meh about our sales guy. Mark Lynch waffled a lot of info he was giving us and had the approach of "well, I don't care if you guys buy it as the next person will". So we went to the other northern Delaware dealer and came away much happier and with a new car. read more
