I really want to like this place. I've been there 3 times and was disappointed all 3 times. Mediocre food at best, having to ask for chips and salsa, iced tea served warm and ice melted in glass. Do yourself a favor and just go to Rosa's which has better food for half the price. They can easily step up and be successful in Flower Mound but lack of attention to detail is obvious from poorly trained servers to food prep and sloppy management. read more

I invited my family to drive out to Flower Mound to eat. I started out at the bar, was there before 6:00 and I finally got to order a vodka with a splash of cranberry. I tasted it and it was tequila with cranberry. Tried to get to taste good. Emily offered to get me my vodka but I said I would drink it. Went to pay for it and it was $13 and change that included liquor tax. Never ever would I pay 13 for a well drink. My family ordered drinks and needless to say my dad's Bloody Mary didn't taste well and the large skinny margarita tasted too sour. If you're going to charge high prices make sure they turn out good. Then the food, meals came out at different times and my food was semi warm along with my mothers. The fajitas came out last sizzling hot! Overall not a good night! read more

We had been to Mattitos when it used to be in Lewisville some years ago. This location is relatively close to where we live. We came on Friday 7/8 for dinner. Even though it was busy we didn't have much of a wait at all. The only issue that we had was that it took a long time to get our food and even then our server was apologetic. We knew something was going on because we saw other people in the same predicament. Overall the food was good service was good. Worst service ever. I ordered food to go which I was told to pick up at the bar. I then stood at the bar while the bartender helped several people before getting to me. I mentioned the pick up method wasn't great, having to go to the bar. The bartender made a snotty face at me and turned away. I don't need the child attitude. I'm physically handicapped and have difficulty walking. I'd rather not walk further than I need to. Additionally the handicap parking is somehow further than to go parking which I'm not even sure is legal but I'm sure going to find out. I hope this restaurant succeeds since there were some disappointments and some triumphs. I will start with my observations that give this place a fourth star. Our cocktails were superb! One top shelf margarita and the other was an interesting margarita served neat in a large martini glass that was mixed and shaken only with white tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice (no sugar or margarita mix). It was like a Mexican martini and quite good. The top shelf margarita was well balanced and excellent. The bar is very nicely laid out and the stools looked very comfy. The bartender is very good. Two stars for the continuous loop of piercing, frenetic Mexican music with blaring trumpets and all. This is fine occasionally for atmosphere but here in Flower Mound they should have a mix of music and tone it down a bit. It is always there, too much high energy ethnic music and I found it to be quite irritating. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. She really gave us five star service and she got a big tip for it. So did the very professional bartender. Tex-Mex is pretty hard to screw up and with this new restaurant, Flower Mound is over-served with Tex-Mex. Better get the cuisine right or else. I always judge the food at this type of concept by the chili relleno. Big disappointment. It was a very small flattened chili pod batter fried real crispy but not stuffed. I chose brisket filling but it was very dry meat and plopped on top of the tiny chili. The tomatillo sauce was superb and saved the dry brisket. Our other dish was chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. The mole was bland and needs to be improved. Mole sauces are rich and complex and Mattitos needs to get back in the kitchen and work harder on this recipe. Again, the sides were good and this one came with black beans that were tasty but a stingy portion. The Spanish rice was very eatable and the beans were very good. Chips were outstanding and their table sauce is excellente! The sauce just hits every flavor mark I expect in salsa, just the right heat, delicious tomato base with mild garlic, and a perfect note of lime juice...or is it a good brand of vinegar? They should bottle it for sale to take home, it's that good! The building is a rock star and was a former cafe. Decor was sparse and not too interesting. I think they should work on this and give it a more established, lived-in look with personality. More color, artifacts, colorful LED twinkle lights....more to see and take in maybe? Again, the music really needs a makeover. The bar could really become like that old series Cheers if they court a regular following of local wallowers. But personally I couldn't warm a barstool very long listening to constant cha-cha music. They should add one more TV screen for the wallowers and emphasize sports games. This bartender is a real professional and knows how to mix a cocktail! This restaurant may make it in this tough market. Flower Mounders use reviews and advice from friends, so this is how the business will build up: word-of-mouth recommendations. Anamia's is a tough act to follow. Your food has to be perfect, so management needs to baby sit this kitchen until every dish is 5 star. Then you will be taking reservations. read more

12/29/22 The flower mound location has(for the fifth time) provided the worse service in my 50 years of restaurant eating. This evening it took 30 minutes to get water another 15 minutes to get drinks. The waitress that took our order was not the waitress for the table and when the real waitress acknowledged the table, two of the Four dinners ordered were not correct and had to be sent back. Then the bill was delivered and had to be corrected since 45 minutes were wasted and we were charged non-happy hour prices for our drinks. Then the charge receipt came back to the table and it was not our bill, completely different bill. It was only $5 more than our bill so that was the tip. The food here is always good but the service is consistently bad. read more
