****Brunch Review****
My husband and I met two friends here for Sunday brunch. Our friend made 11:45AM reservations but they were not needed as it was never crowded during our visit. My husband and I arrived first and were told that they will not seat until the entire party gets here. I went to use the restroom and came back and the hostess said she could seat us while we waited. It might have been the fact there is nowhere to sit while waiting and I am clearly late in pregnancy, but I appreciated the accommodation nonetheless.
Brunch drinks are 25 cents each-mimosas, bloody marys, OJ, soda, and coffee. My husband and I both ordered coffee while we waited for the rest of our party. They mark on the paper tabletop cover how many drinks are ordered in order to charge the bill at the end. They also write everyone's order on the table paper too. The brunch pricing is $26.99 for table bread, fruit/yogurt parfait/salad, and entree. There are only a few entree options and most include steak, so if you do not like steak, I would not recommend dining here.
The table bread was soft and crusty, served warm, but otherwise average, basic bread. I chose the fruit salad which was served in a wine glass filled with pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, and grapes. The fruit was fresh. The yogurt parfait was ordered by the three others at my table and after having a bite of my husband's yogurt, that is definitely the first course to order. It had vanilla yogurt, granola, berries, and dried fruit-all served in a wine glass. My three dining companions ordered the steak and poached eggs with frites while I ordered just the steak frites. The frites, at least on my plate, were well-seasoned but cold. Some were burnt too far to eat. The steak was cooked to my requested temperature, but I found the cut to be just too low-quality and chewy and thin. It tasted a lot like thinned out hamburger. The sauce was on the saltier side but thank goodness for the sauce or I would not have been able to finish the steak, which had zero flavor on its own. The portion was small IMO and is definitely not worth the $26.99 price.I know for dinner you get two servings of steak and frites,so, although it is more expensive, maybe that is a better time to visit for a better value. My husband wished his eggs had been more runny and he said his steak was "good", but, quite honestly, he is pretty easy to please and typically "good" means about a 2.5 stars on a more critical scale.
Since I cannot have the mimosas or bloody marys, I can only share the comments of my dining companions. My one friend hated the bloody mary and said it was very weak and was disappointed she did not get olives and lemon like she saw at another table. She finished half and then switched to mimosas. My other friend had 2 bloody marys but he normally has quite a few over that, so I can imagine he wasn't thrilled with them either. My husband said his first mimosa had "probably less than 25 cents worth of champagne in it". I did try a sip and, yep, it was all OJ. His next had more champagne in it though he said, but the subsequent one was, again, more OJ heavy. In a nutshell, the consistency was pretty uneven.
Our service was excellent-probably the best part of the dining experience here. It's also kind of weird they serve bubble gum with the check-a peppermint would be more appreciated and more appropriate if they are going for a less diner-y vibe. I probably would not return to Medium Rare on my own, but I wouldn't be opposed to returning if it were suggested by someone else. I would just be prepared to have a very mediocre meal at a higher price point. read more
