This was my first time at any of the Mellow Mushrooms (this is the one is over by TCU). First of all, our appetizer, the portobello mushroom (can't remember the witty name unfortunately), was outstanding. The pizzas were excellent as well, although I can't say the flavors tasted anything like I expected. We had a Thai pizza which only vaguely tasted Thai to me. The same was true for the pulled chicken pizza, which I figured would have a barbecue flavor but it did not taste anything like I expected. That was slightly disappointing but largely offset by the freshness of the ingredients and the overall quality of the food, regardless of the nontraditional flavors. The drinks were good, but my friend seemed surprised by their lack of beer selection on tap. The restaurant was clean and the employees were very friendly (one employee even chased us down to give me my sunglasses I had left behind - thank you!). Overall, the experience was a good one and I will return when I'm in this part of town again in the future. read more

I was blown away front the second I entered this restaurant. The second I walked in those front doors, I could see that this place gonna be more than just am average pizza joint. From the clearly well thought-out interior decorating, to the delicious food, I was extremely impressed with the amount of work that was put into this place. Me and My dad split a small named "The House Pizza" and man it was delicious. All the toppings went perfectly together, along with their creamy and delicious ranch dressing made in house. Not to mention their pretzel bites, that were so warm and buttery that I was quick to put them up there with the best appetizers I've ever had. Their homemade beer cheese sauce and tomato sauce to go along with it only enhanced the tasty pretzel bites. To top off the food experience, me and my dad had a popsicle named "mellow pops" they were so sweet, rich, and creamy that I would recommend them over any store bought popsicles. Overall, I can't find anything negative to say about this place. They clearly put a lot of effort in to this place. The extremely nice and welcoming owner, Kim, told us how she went out and carefully selected a lot of the interior decorations, and her effort clearly showed. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they make all their sauces, and practically everything from scratch. Our waiter, Sean, was also very good in constantly filling up our drinks and answering any questions we had. All in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant as more than just a place that serves delicious Pizza, It also has a welcoming staff that is not afraid to put in a lot of effort to make sure their product quality is noticeably above the average and make meaningful connections with the customers. read more

I LOVE this place. My son and I stopped in to get a quick lunch. I honestly was not sure what to expect. The pizza (The House combo) was phenomenal, due in part to the great crust. We also tried the pretzel nuggets and they were also amazing. The beer-cheese dipping sauce for the pretzels was on par with the rest of the food (EXCELLENT). Sean, our waiter, was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. We also had ithe opportunity to meet Kim, the owner. What a genuinely interesting and funny lady. I have been driving past this place for years and always thought I would go there, but didn't'. When our daughter was here from Michigan for my birthday she asked where we could go to watch the Michigan-Purdue game and I suggested The Mellow Mushroom in Blue Bonnet Circle near TCU. It turned out to be perfect for us. It started when we walked in an were greeted by Sean and he was so nice to us that we spent the next few hours there. No smoking was a really nice feature. The special Mushroom soup was very tasty. The artichoke dip was excellent. We definitely will go back and will try the pizzas with the rest of our family next tome. I always get good food, but the service is very spotty. The pizza selection is not your typical Pizza Hut/Domino's selection choices. They're rather unique and artistic. If I could give 0 stars I absolutely would. My boyfriend ordered a gluten free dairy free pizza which we waited nearly over an hour for in barely busy restaurant. Our server, who checked on us once the entire time, brought our pizza to us to which we noticed was in fact not on gluten free crust (which we knew just from looking at it). we questioned our server who was in slight denial that it was in fact gluten free due to the tray it was on, after checking with the kitchen confirmed it was not gluten free crust. I told our server to just give us a box (for my pizza) and to give us the check. The manager actually questioned whether my boyfriend actually had a gluten allergy just because the vegan part of the pizza was correct. Seriously??? 1. It's not your business to know whether your customer has an actual allergy to gluten and 2. Even your server couldn't tell the different between gluten and non-gluten crust. Atlanta-based pizza chain but with only two locations in Texas, unique enough to merit a review. Located just on the Bluebonnet Circle barely south of TCU, individualized for the location as are all locations in this franchise. I don't know how but this place produces absolutely perfect pizza crust. It is flavorful and chewy without tasting like a tortilla or made from a box of Bisquick. Had the House Special (10") which is pretty much an excuse to pile on every topping they have with a homemade tomato sauce. Some original pie combinations on the menu or you can customize your own. Cheese is real, ingredients are super-fresh and I tend to crave it over other pizza styles. Menu includes sandwiches and other appetizers; would be nice to have a lunch menu, or some option smaller (and cheaper) than the 10" for individual diners. Pizzas are made fresh, so expect a little longer wait than at other restaurants after you order. Service is great but young and may vary depending on their own social schedule. 9pm on Saturday night I found myself in Ft Worth pissed off and driving around aimlessly after missing a 7:30 movie I was headed to which ended up on the side of the road for 2 hours due to a hit and run accident. I needed some food AND a drink badly so I spent that hour yelping via cellphone. Being that I dressed comfy and only for a movie (no makeup, etc) I didn't look decent enough to go anywhere nice downtown so I decided to find a relaxed place and get some pizza. Up pops MM and I remembered my son mentioning how good it was. I get there and feel a little out of place being a 30-something, definitely a college joint with rowdy drunk kids...a little annoying but the server was super nice and explained what they have and that everything is cooked to order and takes around 20min. My hubby got a Purple Haze (on tap) and I got a mixed drink and we shared the spin dip while the pizza cooked because we were starving by this point. Spin dip was great and served with hot garlic bread that had a nice nutty taste from the sesame seeds. They have several fun and unique pizzas to choose from, not your standard toppings and options for vegans/vegetarians. We ordered the Kosmic Karma and everything was good quality and fresh. Pizza had a lot of flavors going on and was really tasty...for a med pizza it had 6 good size slices and was $20. I like their thick, bready crust - it's able to hold heavy toppings without getting soggy and it's nice and chewy. Some have written about shotty service but our server was very attentive and knowledgeable and we never lacked for drinks or napkins. Mellow mushroom has a pretty decent, custom-izable pizza, a full bar and they've got other menu items if you're not feelin' a Za. The mellow, hippy dippy, spaced out atmosphere is unique and cute. Some might even say "far out" or "wild" for the whole family. Tuesday is trivia night at this location and you are playing for some free food and drinks so be sure to so good and don't cheat! Service is mostly awesome with a knowledgeable,helpful staff. I'm glad to see they are branching out all over the metroplex without compromising on food, taste and service. If you go to Mellow Mushroom hungry, you are pretty much screwed. It takes for-ev-er to get your food here, I have waited an hour for my pizza before. The service can also be spotty, I have had excellent waiters here and waiters that were twitchy, couldn't make eye contact, or get an order right. I once ordered a pizza for pick-up, showed up 10 minutes before it would be ready intending to grab a drink, and they gave my pizza to someone else...right in front of me...really? Luckily even though while sitting at a table it takes an hour to get your food, it took them 15 minutes to make me a new pizza and then they gave it to me for free. I would recommend taking a cab to Mellow Mushroom for two reasons: 1. Parking here is more painful then watching Ben Affleck in Gigli. There are maybe 8 parking spaces in the lot, which is full of pot-holes and hunks of asphalt. 2. As you wait an hour for your food, trying not to chew off your arm, you will be consuming many many strong drinks. All of that said, Mellow Mushroom makes some incredible pizzas. The pizza crust is absolutely the best pizza crust I have ever tasted. The toppings are fresh, delicious, and the combinations they suggest are brilliant. Looks like I get to be their 100th review - and I am happy to say it is a positive one! This is some tasty pizza! Vegetarian and vegan friendly and with a lot of unique combinations. People have covered most of what I could tell you so I will just make my recommendations. My favorite was always the gourmet white, it has such great flavor.....favorite that is until I discovered the Thai Dye! Like pizza and Thai food got together and had a delicious mutant baby, no no, that sounds horrible, and this is delicious! For vegetarians just ask to swap out the meat for curry tofu. Something about the combo of sweet Thai chili sauce and mozzarella just makes my mouth happy. They can be a bit pricy, but this is fancy pizza, and a chain done right, so worth the splurge. My only complaint is the service at this particular location isn't always friendly. I took my mum to a Mellow Mushroom in South Carolina, and the waiter was so incredibly nice I thought she was going to pinch his cheeks (I didn't say which!) ha. Don't be That Guy and change up their concoction, dammit! If they think pineapple and bacon and jalpenos are good together (which they are) then don't F with it. If you want to order a generic pepperoni pizza, great, go to Domino's and don't slow them down making MY kick ass pie. And the beer?! Oh yes, quite good. Why didn't I have access to that type of beer when I at TCU? Think of all the wasted (get it?) time I spent on flavorless domestic light beer? I could have enjoyed some actual sabor. Then again, I probably wouldn't have paid $6 per pint when I was an undergrad. Must admit pizza is my absolute favorite food and after trying Mellow Mushroom, it has become my #1 spot for pizza. They also offer gluten-free pizzas, with the most amazing crust, and they always use fresh ingredients. I have never been disappointed. Although the pizza here can get a bit pricey, it is well worth it. If you are in the area, you have to stop by. I also love the cool artistic décor and the nice patio seating. The food is really good. The servers are very nice. The service is sadly a massive disappointment. They struggled with everything. No refills at all, ever. Want one, go get it yourself. We came in on a Friday night around 7 and there was already people waiting for a table inside. Since we were starving, so we decided to take a table on the patio right away. It was definitely a plus that the restaurant had installed a cooling mist system on the patio. The whole restaurant makes you feel like you are back in school. We asked a waitress if Happy Hour was still on, since it was already 6:56pm. She checked the time on our phone and said that it was fine. So we got a $2 beer. We also ordered a Steak and Cheese calzone and the Magical Mystery Tour pizza. The waitress told us that there will be a 30 minute wait for our pizza and calzone, therefore we also got their spinach salad. The salad came quickly and it was very standard. The pizza and calzone showed up about 40 minutes later. Overall like a few other yelpers, we thought the calzone was better than their pizza. The pizza was just too doughy and just didn't taste right with the cheese that they used. It was very disappointing. Also when our bill came, they charged us the regular price for the beer. We asked our waitress about it and she said that since the time on our bill was 7:05pm, so they couldn't change the price. She already asked her manager about it too. We didn't really want to argue over $1.50 but seriously, we all know that when we ordered the beer, it was before 7pm, since we double checked with her. For us it was really the principle and the way a restaurant conducts itself. We will not be back again. Plus the pizza at Fireside Pies (Dallas location) and Cane Rosso are way better. read more

I guess I'll start by saying that I am by no means a pizza cone suer. I mean, I enjoy pizza as much as the next red blooded American but when it comes to all the fancy toppings and how the pizza is baked, I'm completely out of my element. In fact, I've resisted coming here for about a year despite everyone telling me "how amazing it is." The first thing I noticed upon sitting down was the decor and the atmosphere. It's very... relaxed I suppose is the best word to describe it. It reminds me of the kind of place you'd expect to find in San Francisco or Berkley. The staff just wears T-shirts and cargo shorts and they're extremely nice. As soon as I open the menu I look to the beer menu and was shocked at the selection. It's not gigantic or anything but way more than what I expected. I settle on a Young's Double Chocolate Stout, not because it's a great beer to mix with pizza but because I was so surprised they had it. After spending about 10 minutes looking over all the types of pizza they had to offer we settled on making our own. My pizza was the standard, meats, jalapeños, and the the like while my friend decided to go off the beaten path and get a pizza with chicken, feta cheese, and instead of the normal marinara sauce, pesto. The pizza took a while to come out (and we were warned about the wait from our waiter) so we decided to get some cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer and my god it was fantastic. Once the food came out I realized what I had been missing out on the entire time. It was absolutely fantastic and what surprised me even more was how delicious my friends concoction was. The pesto was amazing, the crust was fantastic, and the feta cheese was something I had never had on pizza before. In summary, if you're ever in the area and you're cravin' some of the best pizza you'll ever have, I highly recommend coming here. I just don't get it. Everyone I know talks about this place like if it was the holy grail of pizza. I understand that they make their own dough blah blah blah and everyone loves the lecture about fresh this and that, but that is no excuse to have to wait for your food for 45 min to 1 hr after you waited another 30min-1hr to get seated. I think there are many places that use fresh ingredients and dough made from scratch that are quicker and less pricey. As a hint of how awesome this is - the pizza has so much garlic you can smell it coming around the corner. It is topped with steak, portobella mushrooms, feta, kalamata olives, and artichoke hearts. Got the extra large buffalo chicken pizza on our first time there. There was hardly any chicken on the pizza. I think if I picked all the pieces up, and combined them, they may add up to a single Chicken McNugget. The crust was REALLY thick and big, which takes over about half of the entire surface area of the pizza. Dough tasted like left over bread. Overall the sauce was too salty. Service was kinda slow as well. The pizza certainly did not justify $27 price tag. I complained about the lack of meat on the pizza to our waiter, and he just shrugged. There are much better pizza options out there, especially given the price point and level of service. read more

Hello yelpers! Mellow is one of my absolute favorite eateries ever. It is not simply a pizza joint...the appetizers and salads etc are phenomenal too! The food is second ONLY to the exemplary service. The cooks are ever entertaining, the bartenders know their biz and sling a mean drink in the nicest way, and the waitstaff is the best. My friends and I always request Brin when we go and she has never let us down. Last night, 2 of my group arrived early and we were waiting on our third. She set us up with drinks and sold us on the unbelievable hummus while we waited. Other servers stopped by with hellos and smiles and even offered refills when our drinks were barely down by half. When our other friend arrived, she had a drink as soon as she settled into the booth and we ordered only minutes later. The pizza (Half Mellowterranean/ Half Thai Dye WHOLE YUM), came out piping hot and delicious!!! We didn't want to eat it at first because it looked too good! After demolishing the entire pie, we wished we could eat it all over again. ...But, of course, we had zero room left to do so anyway. ;-) Basically, if you want delicious food, a super fun environment (they do trivia and other fun things too), and an unforgettable dining experience, RESERVE AT MELLOW!! Their vegan pizza's rock! I used to go to the first Mellow Mushroom in Atlanta. It was amazing, so since I am now in Texas I thought I'd try it here. OMG it's so yummy! Diaya cheese is one of my favorites. I eat it all the time. Topped on a Mellow Mushroom pizza it is insane! I love getting a pizza with artichokes, spinach, mushrooms,pineapples, green peppers, red roasted peppers, tomato, tempeh and tofu. It is so good So worth every cent. This is a fairly decent place. I like going here and bring my friends who live out of state here at least once for the experience. They have a good menu and good atmosphere. The staff can be lacking but it's nothing bad enough to turn anyone away. I love their calzones and their hogies. But of course their masterpiece has to be the pizza. If you are not a fan of mushrooms I would read through the details of their menu, because they have a lot of mushrooms in their dishes. Our favorite pizza joint in FW. The free wireless helps. They really know how to make a good pie. There are many different pizza choices and they are all tasty on the honey wheat dough. A little barbeque pizza never hurt anyone - with a hint of bacon. The outdoor seating spells good times for all, matched with a good beer selection. The service is always good and the music selection cannot be matched anywhere...they played "Chocolate Rain." This place is a bit better in the summer when there are less TCU kids. read more

I love this place! It's not the world's best pizza, but it's a great place to go to try new combinations of toppings. For example, I've always been a fan of pizza topped with meat and extra meat, but at Mellow Mushroom, I enjoy the VEGGIE pizzas. I like the spinach, feta, garlic, artichoke, and mushroom combination! I also love love love PESTO on pizza, so much so that I get sad whenever it's not a menu-option at other joints. I also recommend that you get an appetizer like cheesy bread because the pizza takes a little bit of time to cook. We drove down to Dallas for the OSU-TCU football game (a horrible loss for my Cowboys), and came to Mellow Mushroom with my cousin and his girlfriend afterward. She said she liked it because it reminded her a bit of Hideaway back in Stillwater, and I totally see the resemblance. Very laid back, cool atmosphere with great pizza. My sister and I started out with the spinach salad, which was great and had lots of good toppings. We got a pizza that was half Maui Wowie and half Margherita. The Maui Wowie was basically a Hawaiian pizza but way better... I think it had pineapple, bacon, chicken and banana peppers...maybe more. It was so good, probably the best Hawaiian pizza I've had! The Margherita was also pretty good. We also tasted some of the "special," which seemed to be their version of a supreme and it was good too. I also had a couple beers, the Revolver Blood and Honey wheat, which I liked a lot. All in all, pretty good experience! I'd recommend it. read more

I gotta say, for some reason, I always looked at the Mellow Mushroom with an odd fascination but never really wanted to try it. I think now that it is because I had been placated by the mass marketed, lowest common denominator pizza that is so readily available. I finally went last night because of the group playing at the live music night. Our waiter Russ was freaking awesome! He found out it was a first time visit and jumped in to help us make informed decisions and was not afraid to offer his opinions. On a side note, I wonder what his hair looked like because in the 95+ degree heat, he was wearing a ski cap! We decided on the Mighty Meaty and the Gourmet White. They were freakin awesome! I have tried just about every type of pie that these guys have to offer... and have loved every one for different reasons. The most recent was their red skinned potato pie... has slices of baked potato with bacon, sour cream, cheese, and this effing delicious super spicy ranch dressing. I was definitely skeptical about this... because it's just weird to put potatoes on pizza. But after trying it, I was convinced it was one of the best pies I have had so far. In addition to this delicious creation, they let me substitute the romaine lettuce for spinach in my salad. Kosmic Karma was delicious. It's just a great combo of pesto, cheeses, with red sauce and sun dried tomatoes. I added chicken the second time, which made for an even better pie. Philosophers pie was damn good... So was the meat lover's. The part that's so great- The crust. Yeah. Everyone eats the crust. If you don't eat the crust, it's because you are allergic to greatness. That's how effing great it is. Super filling, wonderful, and though a bit pricey, better than any other pizza joint around here.... And no, it's obviously not New York styled pizza. It's better. Plus... even their cheese pizza is good... and a small is like 7 bucks. For a franchise, this place is boss at pizza. read more

The most original and delicious pizza pie in all of Fort Worth. In many of my visits, I have gone with the buffalo chicken pizza and the mighty meaty pie, never leaving disappointed. I have also tried a build-your-own pie, and I had pepperoni, beef, onions, sausage, jalapenos, a bit of fresh garlic and some fresh basil. Might not go with the fresh basil next time...kind of messed with a few of the other ingredients, but overall, very tasty. Perhaps one of the more surprising treats on the menu are the fresh-baked pretzels. My advice? Get the garlic and parmesan. They use the same dough used in the pizza...and the ratio of pretzel softness to toasted crunch on the outside is perfection. What goes with pizza? Beer. The Mellow Mushroom has a very respectable selection of beers to choose from. They serve selections from a dozen different breweries across the country. Can't go wrong there. I love the atmosphere. It's perfect to split a pie and beers with friends, and I've never had a problem with service. read more

We came here after I was in a bikini competition, and I don't know if it was because I had only eaten grilled chicken and asparagus for the previous 3 months or what, but this pizza was so stinking good. Mellow mushroom was one of my favorite places to go in Alabama, so I was stoked to see they had a location here. I tried a draft Funnel Cake Ale, which was delicious. I tried to find it in stores but apparently they don't sell it. We started off with the muffuletta bread, then just got standard pepperoni and onions. Hot, fresh, delicious. I loved it. Loved it! The atmosphere is fun and the big booths are very comfortable. Arthur was our waiter and he was excellent! He explained the menu to us, brought a second high chair for our daughter (we stacked them so she could sit at the same height as the booth), was friendly and responsive! After enjoying a full and busy day touring TCU with my daughter, we needed grub and we needed it sooner rather than later. My daughter had visited Mellow Mushroom before and is a big fan of their fare, so at her recommendation we headed down University Avenue for my first taste of Mellow Mushroom. Parking at this location is quite a challenge, but we found a spot in the street in the adjoining neighborhood, about 1/2 a block away. Being a Monday evening, they weren't crowded at all and we were seated immediately. The menu is quite extensive, offering a plethora of pizza topping combos so that pretty much any palate can be satisfied. I was surprised by the prices - rather high for a college-area pizza joint. My daughter chose the buffalo chicken pie and I opted for the House Special, covered with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, bacon, mushrooms, tomato slices, black olives, onions and jalapenos (I subbed the jalapenos in place of the green peppers). For me, the best part of the pizza was the crust, which is somewhat unusual for me. It was perfect. The pizza itself was lacking in sauce, and I thought the toppings were a bit sparse given the price. Overall, the pizza was fine, but I have had better. My daughter enjoyed her buffalo chicken pie, even though they topped it with ranch instead of the blue cheese dressing she had ordered. For me, Mellow Mushroom was way more expensive than I felt it was worth. For the parking, prices, and sparse toppings they get two stars. For the crust, decent house Cabernet, and excellent service they get four. Although I was disappointed in MM, spending the day and evening with my daughter more than made up for it. read more
