I've been to a few different locations - They never disappoint. Great looking on the inside. The service has always been excellent. Sometimes from the waitstaff, or sometimes from a floor manager waiting in the wings overseeing everything. You will be well taken care of. Last time I went I took a group of friends from out of town. One of them really wanted Mexican, but they are picky. I told them if you have about 15 minutes to drive, I can take you some place you are really going to like. Measo Maya did not dissapoint. Everyone got something different. Sharing is a double-edged sword. If you have something you like, then you may not want to share it. But if it's "really" good, then that always makes me want to share the experience - and there was lots of sharing going on. read more

We have been anticipating dining at Meso Maya for for a couple of months now. Driving by at 40 miles an hour, this restaurant looks adorable & inviting. We looked at the menu online and thought it would be somewhat like Javier's, NOT! Up close not so much...dead plants in the planter boxes. We have been in the hospitality business for many years! We like to sit at the bar, due to you usually get waited on by a veteran, knowledgeable employee. Well, not today, sadly. We had the unfortunate experience to have Miguel wait on us. We arrived at the restaurant around 2:30 on a Sunday. We ordered 2 top self margaritas with tajin. Where they were a tad on the weak side, we decided on a different choice for our 2nd round, which took Forever! I ordered a mexican martini & hubby an avocado margarita. We didn't get chips & salsa till our 2nd round of drinks. We also ordered a kale salad to spilt. All the time Miguel was rushing us to order Brunch, we told him we were probably going to order off the regular menu and that we were the type of customer which want have a dining experience, not eat & go. We asked for some of his suggestions, and he kept trying to push the Brunch. At this point I surveyed the bar area. I noticed he was waiting on 2 other tables besides us and they were at the closing end of their dining experience. I told my husband I believe he's about to get off work and wants us to move along, lol. Our kale salad came out and it was meh, it could have used some salty crunch, like pepitas. Well, the avocados were left off completely and we waved Miguel down. He brought us a small amount of avocados, basically a 1/4 of an avocado. We had to ask for water to be refilled along with our salsa. I made a visit to the bathroom which was filthy!!! This was my 2nd time here and still as good as the first time. The staff addresses you as amigas which indicates the type of service you'll receive. Which was top notch by the way. I've only hade Cafe de la Olla in Mexico and to be able to get it here was a dream come true. So much so I ordered 2 cups. The vibe in the restaurant is very chill and elegant. So even though I had on jeans I felt comfy enough to seat and eat. I ordered the pork chop which slapped me in the face with flavor. Oh dear... I was excited to try this place due to all the wonderful reviews. Maybe the reviewers were there for dinner or maybe they were drinking too many margaritas. The employees were very nice, but the food wasn't. I ordered the brunch chorizo tacos... when the food arrived the potatoes were ice cold and I got bacon and egg breakfast tacos. I would have eaten them, but the eggs were also ice cold and rubbery. When I left them know the problem, they were fantastic at returning the plate to the kitchen. They arrived within 5 minutes with hot chorizo and egg tacos and ... ice cold potatoes. Oh well... read more

I quit coming for a very petty reason...I was tired of Sergio telling me how old I look. Every time we came he told me how my mother looked younger than me. It's just rude. This place was on my list to try, especially because I love mole and I saw they had both a mole plate and mole enchiladas. I'll start with the mole plate. The plate comes with a chicken breast bathed in mole. The mole was okay - I prefer the mole to be sweeter but that's a personal preference. It comes with plantains and white rice. I was a little disappointed that the rice was just plain steamed rice. While it's expected in Asian cuisine, this isn't something I expected from a Mexican restaurant. Onto the mole enchiladas. I'm not sure if they used the same mole from the mole plate but the enchiladas were very disappointing. The mole was very bitter and tasted burned. We had to scrape off the mole to the side. If it's the same mole than I'm betting it was a different batch because it was inedible. I also tried a corn tamale, which I enjoyed. Not too sweet, it was just right. For dessert, we tried the chocolate cake. It was a lot bigger than expected and can be shared. Unfortunately, it was dry and rock hard on the edges. I was only able to eat the inside. It comes with a scoop of ice cream that has frozen corn in it. Unexpected but I didn't hate it. Service was friendly and the ambiance is nice. Good for a date or girls night. Being there with her family made it feel much more special! There's a variety of choices, you really can't go wrong. For an entree, I highly recommend one of the Budín Azteca meals. They are the Chef's specials. Creamy and flavorful with every bite! The closest thing to Mexican lasagna with tortillas. I had the Camarón! It's delicious sauce blended so with the shrimp! For a appetizer, I recommend the Ceviche and for a side, you must try a bowl of beans (it will take your tastebuds on a world tour of Amazement)!! The service is top notch and makes your experience much more enjoyable! I haven't checked the outside seating area. Would love to go back and check it out! 2nd location for us to try. Open atmosphere, Tasty and filling food but not as remarkable as our 1st visit in Dallas. The Fish and Shrimp Ceviche was dry and missing moisture and flavor. Chips and Salsa, salsa was spicy and had a fruity flavor I thought was Habanero. Chunky Guacamole was tasty but the most delicious and enjoyable dish was the Budin Azteca Camaron, with slightly overcooked Shrimp and layers of tortillas and cheese covered in Verde Sauce. We shared the Chocolate Cake w/Sweet Corn Ice Cream, which seamed like a flourless chocolate cake and frozen Corn in the vanilla ice cream was a bit off putting. You can never go wrong with tacos which is why I went with the Carne tacos (skirt steak). The steak was tender and tasty. I wasn't a fan of the habanero sauce, it was a bit too "strong" and spicy. The rice and black beans were the typical sides, no complaints there. As far as the cocktail, I had a Bourbon Margarita with strawberry flavoring added. The drink was the highlight of my evening. My mom ordered the Coco Salmon and it was inedible. We could smell the strong fish smell as the server was approaching our table. My mom took one bite and spit it out because she was afraid it'd make her sick. The fish tasted like it was long past its expiration date. On top of that the salmon was over cooked and the coconut rice was stone cold. She sent it back and did not order anything else. I think what was most shocking was that a manager never came over to ask any questions or apologize for the food. I probably won't return to this location again. read more

This review is not for food or service received from our server; it is for the rude behavior of one of the managers. This has been our favorite restaurant chain for 8+ years. We bring out of town people here, we celebrate birthdays, graduations, and holidays. The food is always good the service impecable. On our last visit we finished our appetizers and main entrees and had ordered a dessert. The desert came promptly and our server placed. It in the middle of our table. a female manager immediately followed him and scolded our server in front of us and told him "I told you not do bring it yet" (in Spanish). She then proceeded to immediately grab our dessert and while holding it hostage in the air on her hand, proceeds to tell us if we can move because they need our table to conectes to other 3 tables for a big party. We made reservations, we didn't just showed up. Keep in mind this was hardly an ask, as she literally pick up our dessert from the table signaling we needed to move asap or we would not have said hostage dessert. We were perplexed at her lack of manners and rude demand. It would have been ok if she would have come and explain the situation, apologize for the mistake of whoever sat us there and then asking if we wouldn't mind moving. That would have been ok and we would have been happy to help. But the way she handled the whole situation was so rude and unprofessional. One of our guests jokingly said yes we can, but are you at least taking that dessert off our bill? To what she literally didn't even have the courtesy of replying. Now, none of us need a comped dessert, but come on, telling guests they need to move while taking their food off the table is just unacceptable, borderline ridiculous. This server/manager could greatly benefit from learning some basic manners and training on how to professionally handle a situation like this, so both parties needs are met and leave feeling like their years of patronage is appreciated and valued. read more

We were VERY impressed by the taquitos in particular for our appetizers. The queso was queso, ya know, can't go wrong, but the taquitos were the true star of our appetizers. My partner CANNOT handle spice, and the arrachera was perfect for him. (I stole the poblanos I saw lying around, lol). It was such a large portion we had to take it home. That doesn't really happen to us! Greatly appreciated. The pork shoulder in my dish (Cochinita pibil) was so tender it became hard to pick up!! I didn't taste a whole lot of flavor by itself, but that's of course probably a wise choice to make the dish crowd friendly. I would have asked for a sauce if I could. Lol! They have changed their menu over the years to be more Tex mex (white queso, tostadas, quesadillas), but it still has Mexican classics and flavor. I recommend the chicharrones or their fresh guacamole for appetizer,cochinita pibil or tacos (asada or carnitas) for entree, and the chocolate pastel for dessert.
