Busy, loud, pretty good Our visit to Metro Cafe was certainly filling, they can sure put out the food. We are just visiting Culver City, so this was our first time. It was Sunday, easy to find street parking but it may have been a popular day for breakfast food. It was also a bit chilly, so we opted to wait for an indoor table. While we waited, we watched the hustle of the staff as they served their customers both inside and seated outside along the sidewalk. The wait was not very long. Once seated our server got us going with drinks while we looked over the menu. I decided on their Eggs Benedict, a dish recommended to me because they use eggs with very yellow yolks. I can confirm the yolks were very yellow. After about 20 minutes our food arrived. My Eggs Benedict was both good and bad. It was a lot of food, that's good. The Hollandaise sauce was tasteless. It had slices of ham instead of Canadian Bacon, my server made sure I knew that when I ordered, and the ham was great. It's what I will mislabel as 'real ham', salty with a bit of fat along the edge, not the perfect pink stuff. I love ham in any of its forms, but to get 'real ham' on an Egg Benedict was a treat. The poached eggs were overcooked so that the pretty yellow yolks were not runny at all, not good. The dish came with a large side of sliced crusty potatoes, ok. Service was good, my coffee topped off a few times, the bill handled as we finished eating. The staff was busy, no time for nicely nice, get the order, fill the order, get paid. read more

The food and service was amazing. We went here last night thinking we may get breakfast, however, only dinner was available. This was a very happy mistake as we found a great locally owned restaurant that has a great atmosphere. The food was amazing. We ordered the Soup of the day (pearl barley) and it was fantastic. The bread paired very well with the soup. My wife ordered the Vienna Schnitzel (chicken) and it was great, flavorful and not greasy. I ordered the spicy shrimp pasta and it was very flavorful with enough spice to know it is hot without being overpowering. The creme brûlée and pear&cinammon strudel was a great way to top off the evening. It was one of the best meals we have had in a while. We are planning on returning at some point for breakfast. Been coming here for years because it is dependably good, consistently. The ambience is charming (you get to control the lighting on the table) and there is original art on the wall by Anton Sipos (see photo). The bread isn't made here but it is outstanding (check out Cadoro Bakery). My partner had the mussels and declared them excellent. I really liked the chicken schnitzel. Add a glass of Finca El Origen Malbec from Argentina which is served in a generous portion in a Reidel glass. Treat yourself! read more

If you're looking for a cozy, no frills, tasty brunch spot, then this is the place! We've been looking for a brunch place with some more traditional dishes and Metro Cafe had just that. We ordered the Ham & Swiss Omelette, Serbian Americana, French Toast, and Ranchera Fresca. Everyone enjoyed what they got, but we loved how fluffy the french toast was and the serving was huge! They use large "brick toast" for the french toast and it's perfect because it soaks up the syrup and cream without getting too soggy. The fresh fruit and tart raspberry jam were a nice addition. However, the ranchera fresca was one of the favorites. The avocado salsa is so fresh, perfect ripeness of avocado, and the flavors were scrumptious. I loved having it paired with the medium eggs that weren't too cooked or too runny and the toast provided. I love a savory breakfast packed with flavor and the ranchera fresca was just that without being overwhelming. We will definitely be going back for the ranchera fresca and french toast! Service was great, despite how busy they were. We were seated in the far back corner, but the staff definitely checked on us a couple of times and refilled our coffee. We parked on the surrounding streets with metered parking, but we can see it getting busy on a weekend! read more

One of our favorite things! It's a bit tight but worth the wait. Plenty of seating outside and parking is right in the front. They serve big portions of country type food with lusciuos pancakes; dripping with syrup or add some fresh strawberries and blueberries. Bring your appetite and sit a spell and enjoy yourself. What a great surprise restaurant with so many delicious options! If you have not tried Metro Cafe for dinner or breakfast, I think you will find they have not only some of that best breakfast, but dinner too! We had the Chilean Sea Bass and Lamb Osso Bucco for entrees, we shared the butternut squash and carrot soup (vegan), Pear and Blue cheese salad with delicious bread. They also have various wines and beer. Metro Cafe is very unassuming from the exterior as it's nestled in the middle of the Travelodge motel facing Washington Blvd. Parking is available within the hotel and usually plenty of street parking. read more

Food 8/10 I had a Strawberry Fresh Fruit Pancake with crispy bacon. In addition to that, I've ordered apple juice. The pancake was all right. It was filling I tell you that much. This is the cutest little cafe located on Washington Place. The food is outstanding! The ambiance is cute and high quality. It's very tiny inside with a small outdoor patio and parking garage underneath for free! We had salmon, Pasta with shrimp, schnitzel, corn salad, and zucchini pancakes. My parents and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, ham & swiss omelette, and the sauteed banana pancakes, and shared everything. Everything. Was. So. Delicious! When I was looking at the prices and menu beforehand, I was a bit skeptical that this would be another trendy overpriced and overhyped restaurant-- but Metro Cafe does the classics in an elevated way. The fried chicken sandwich was so crispy, juicy, and thick, prepared with a sauce identical to many japanese chicken cutlets (a bit of a citrusy kick). The coleslaw inside also complimented the chicken very well. The omelette was also filled with a good portion of ham and swiss, and was very filling. The pancakes were so fluffy and the sauteed bananas were so sweet and caramelized. I loved that there was a slice of melon for a refreshing element for the chicken sandwich and omelette. The portion sizes here were large-- you will leave satiated and satisfied! Overall, I really recommend this place! I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. read more

They offer a $10 coupon if you stay at the Travelodge next door. So I came here for breakfast on one of the mornings after I woke up. They have seating outside as well as inside. They have a pretty extensive breakfast menu as well as a lunch menu. I ordered their montenegro omelette with a side of breakfast potatoes and their freshly squeezed juice. Food came out pretty quickly. Potatoes are cooked with a crunchy outside. The omelette is pretty good. Lots of capers all over the place, adding pops of saltiness. Their hand squeezed orange juice still has the pulp in it. Semi sweet. Service is ok. They are quick to get your orders and get the food and drink out. But do you know how you offset the $10 off coupons the hotel gives? By charging a little bit more for everything you order. Even with the $10 coupon, my entire breakfast, which was an omelette, potatoes and orange juice after tip came out to $25 which is crazy for a breakfast brunch place even if it's on LA!!! read more

Which was a lie because the tables were separated for 2 ppl tables and he combined them for the group of 5. That was completely unacceptable. We only stayed because we had already waited so long and it was too late to grab breakfast anymore else given it was after noon. - Hot Chocolate is served in a tall glass with no handle and they just put a paper coffee cup holder. We took the sleeve off for the photo. - Service is extremely slow. I only saw 2 waiters. One inside and one outside. - Only one restroom and needed maintenance. Floor was wet. - The host/bus boy was cleaning a table outside and was emptying the water on the street instead of at least throwing it in the plants. - Our table has used jams. They didn't properly clean the table. - limited street parking. Pros: - Breakfast sandwich with toasted wheat bread was delicious with the avocado was delicious. Great breakfast/very casual brunch spot in Culver City, but be prepared to wait on weekends. Good news is that they keep things moving so the wait is not too bad, particularly if you are ok to sit outside. Just make sure to wear something warm. Unfortunately, I was eating alone so did not get to sample the varied menu. Here is what I can say, fresh OJ really is just squeezed so if you are a fan, great way to start. Latte is excellent too, but you may want to tell them to hold it till your food comes if you are having something else to drink. Or, you can just cover the cup with the saucer and keep it warm till the food arrives, which is reasonably quick. Saw a number of people say in other reviews. that the banana special pancakes are too rich but I did not find them anything but outstanding. I did have the spicy Italian sausage as a side, which helps offset the sweetness of the pancakes. If you have more people, I would recommend getting an omelette or eggs Benedict (which looked great wizzing past my table) and then getting one of the pancake dishes to split amongst the group. Service was fast and no nonsense, which was fine by me. In short, definitely going back particularly after going to the gym so I can earn my meal. Pro tip: parking out front is not easy too find so just go around the block and park on Washington behind the restaurant (which is on Washington Place) and cut straight through one of the driveways or lots that go back to back between the two streets. read more
