I gave MD only three stars for our first time there since it opened. We got seated right away and this was a Saturday morning. Their menu has a lot of choices and the items I got was hot but they forgot to bring my bacon and after several times telling waitress and manager it finally came. My wife had the Pecan French toast it it was cold. The manager came by and apologized and comped our ticket. They were really slammed because it was their first weekend to be opened. The place is really noisy because of an open kitchen to the dining room. Food was great though and we are trying it again tomorrow with friends. If you go on weekends be prepared for a wait. We went back to MD this morning for breakfast around 8 AM and we were allowed to sit where ever we wanted. We were promptly met by our waiter, everything was much better today then yesterday. Food was hot and in large portions . My wife said coffee was kind of weak but I guess that is up to each persons taste. Really like this place but still noise is a problem and if you get there after 8:30 be prepared to wait on weekends. read more

I just had the most amazing breakfast at Metro. I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. I usually get the crab cake Benedict which is beyond amazing but decided to try the chicken and waffles which I've heard so much about. I've been a lot of different places and had some awesome chicken and waffles and this one blew the others out of the water! We love the Metro but today was worst breakfast we have ever had. Husband ordered the Biscuits and Gravy. It came with eggs and hash-browns. He also got a side of bacon. The gravy was a soupy separated, coagulated mess. He politely asked the server if this looked right and if it was supposed to have sausage in it (it didn't but always had before). The served agreed that it looked off and took it back. It came back out with some sausage but tasted only of uncooked flour. I hade the Yo Hala on the Square. Again a soupy mess on the plate. The were no bananas in the cream cheese filling and the strawberry and blueberry compote was missing strawberries. I just figured they couldn't get good strawberries but when walking back to the restroom, it saw others with strawberries. I immediately got sick when I got home. This is unfortunate. We have always had a wonderful time and great food there. They were defiantly off their game today. I doubt we will go back since I'm positive I got sick from them. read more

Metro Diner is the best food ever! I visited another location one time before and i thought it was pretty good. i went to the beach location and lets just say my mind was blown! From great service to most importantly the best chicken and waffles I have everrrrrrr had! I will be back, but I will stick to the beach location from here on out. I recommend this place to anyone new to town. Waits on the weekend can be a bit long, but there is music and the shops next door are even hooked up to the PA system so you can here when your party is called. The food is outstanding, whether you want a simple breakfast or fried chicken and waffles. You won't be dissappointed. read more

First visit but definitely WONT be the last! I ordered the Steak Salad but got it with fried chicken instead. I thought they would tell me that's not really possible since it is titled a steak salad, but they were gracious enough to fulfill the order of a picky girl! It was so delicious! The portion size was huge for a small girl like myself, but that means more for later! Our waitress was so personable and friendly! She was attentive but not overbearing. My fiancé and I sat at the counter which meant we could watch the chefs in action. I am a fan of cooking shows (although I cannot cook myself) and I felt like I was watching a show! They were so much fun to watch and as soon as the chef on the skillet station got a second to breathe he checked on us even though he didn't have to. I may be in dissension here, but I don't get what all they hype is. My eggs were overdone, the hashbrowns were a gross greasy mess, and even though my kid loves the pound cake French toast... She's a kid. I could feed her cake for breakfast! Go to First Watch and get a much better breakfast in much cleaner environment. read more

Amazing! My favorite place to eat on my vacation to Jax Beach. My friends and I went two times for breakfast while there. Every single thing was delicious! I'm a huge fan of pancakes and this is the place to go. They have a 12" pancake for $7. It's huge and delicious! I tried a little of everything between my friends and I. Pancakes, waffles, fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, etc. Everything tastes great, was a huge portion and was reasonably priced. Both times we went the service was good and the manager stopped by the table to make sure everything was to our liking. Go there! You won't regret it! read more

I've heard some wonderful things about Metro Diner, so I'm so glad I was able to stop by for Brunch on Sunday! We sat outside to avoid the wait (even though it was 35 degrees) and the heaters did a great job at keeping us warm! The menu was extensive, and I definitely will come back to try a couple different things that caught my eye! I ordered eggs Benedict (sans the bacon) with the egg cooked "medium", so there would be no runny whites. The waitress suggested to go with that cooking temperature if I wasn't a fan of that- which I'm not. Sadly, the eggs had runny whites. Which totally grossed me out but I ate around it as best as I could. The flavor was yummy and portion size was perfect. There was a +.50 cent up charge for fruit if you want it as your side, not something the waitress mentioned, not that 50 cents matters, but I always appreciate complete transparency. Overall good experience, I'm looking forward to exploring the menu options next time around! read more

OK so this is by far my favorite place for breakfast... And everyone else's also. Expect to wait but it will be worth the wait. Holiday seasons are exceptionally busy about a 30 minute wait but they'll usually tell you 40 minutes. My favorite is the shrimp and grits the Belgian waffles are also excellent. Hot, delicious, fresh. These words describe our breakfast this morning. And it didn't take long for our order to arrive, despite the restaurant being quite full. The staff was friendly, coffee just right; cream, sugar, real butter and jelly on the table. Lots of selections on the menu, including several benedicts. This place is slowly becoming a favorite of mine and my family's. The service is good and the food quite delightful! I have tried it twice so far and had the chicken salad sandwich and an Italian sub sandwich-both were excellent and I received a lot of food for the money. Excellent portion size guys! Came here with my wife and parents last Saturday morning for breakfast. We are new to Jacksonville and used my folks coming through town as a reason to try somewhere new that we'd been hearing about. We only had to wait a few minutes before a table opened up. It was very busy and quite noisy - difficult to hold a conversation at our table in the center of the dining area. However, the excellent breakfast left us too preoccupied to talk much anyway. I had the green tomato Benedict and my wife had the corned beef hash. Was on vaca and had never eaten here before but could tell it was full of locals and repeat customers that the staff knew and loved. Food was so good at dinner on the first day had to go back for breakfast the next. Eating inside was a little on the louder side but the weather was perfect to eat at the outdoor area for breakfast on the second trip. Can honesty say absolutely not a single thing I would change about this place except having it move to be within driving distance of home but somehow I think that's less than likely :) read more

I had the banana granola pancake. The one pancake was large, spilling over the plate making it hard to cut. The pancake was bland and I saw a very few pieces of granola. I ordered sugar free syrup and and could not eat. it. A horrible taste and label said House Syrup. I am a diabetic and have had alot of sugar free syrups, but this was the worse.
