We were greeted with a smile by the gracious hostess. The restaurant had just opened for dinner and it was already bustling.  JT at the bar moved with the grace and speed of a knowledgeable yet playful bartender; the slightly dirty martini was Vegas grade! Customers were celebrating all around us in a place that instantly made us feel welcome. We ordered the Carpaccio and the Swordfish Special. We watched as the Chef and small multi-ethnic culinary crew moved with the focus and precision of natural born taste chemists. Conversations flowed and we met a wonderful gentleman who had brought fresh mint from his plot to share with the restaurant. Yeah, this is a place where the Loco Locals in Stockton gather, for sure! The Carpaccio had the right balance of deliciousness between the arugula, shaved beef, seasoning, and unexpected pine nuts. Chef Ruby Lopez definitely knows what she is cooking in this amazing, perfectly sized, Mediterranean influenced, Italian eatery. Originally from Lodi, starting as a dishwasher, inspired by her need to support her child, Lopez is now artistically working her magic at this surprisingly good restaurant.  The Swordfish was perfectly cooked and spectacular, with the right notes of sweet and savory elements. Stopped in for drinks, and had a great experience. The young lady at the door was professional, and made me feel welcome even though I let her know I wouldn't be dining, and just grabbing a drink. Ordered several of their specialty cocktails, and they were well executed. Bar was well-stocked with the sorts of spirits I expect from somewhere with a "cocktail program." Their juices were fresh, including fresh grapefruit - a personal favorite that isn't always available at other places that fresh-squeeze citrus. The Paper Plane and The Last Word, two classics I've had many times at many bars, were excellent. I also tried a couple drinks I had not had before, and they were made with the same care as the classics with which i am familiar. I didn't order any food, but several other patrons at the bar did. The dishes looked attractive, and smelled delicious. I did have some of their house made foccacia, which is served with tapenade and good olive oil. The quality of the olive oil stuck out because so often I find this is somewhere that restaurants skimp. I look forward to returning to try more cocktails, and for dinner. read more

I had a reservation for 7:30, didn't receive food until 9:05 (after asking multiple times and being given different answers each time). Our table was told that we would receive our food within a minute yet 15 mins later nothing was brought to us. When we asked again we were told that half of our entrees were ready and the other half were still being cooked. This was highly frustrating and multiple tables that came after us received their food before. I wish we could have a better experience. read more

In a nutshell?: Excellent meals shared with great friends in a very comfortable setting. Mezzo was good before the pandemic but it's even better now. The menu has been condensed and they seem to be focusing on several entrées the kitchen prepares really well: pasta, veal, salmon, risotto.....with the perfect sauce for each and focaccia for mopping it up. On our way out I noticed one of the owners and her chef reviewing a possible addition to the menu. Always improving....always evolving. Came by for Stockton restaurant week with a friend. I was impressed, she was less than impressed. Together we average four stars! + Olive oil with olive tapenade! I got myself full off of this stuff. I loved it! I might seriously come back just for this. However, this is free so I'll have to order a dish or two. + Seafood Fra Diavolo. I liked it, friend didn't. + Atmosphere. Very sophisticated! I felt like I needed to sit up taller and cross my legs. - Seating. Place is small. - Running out of tiramisu. For cereal? And we were so excited. -1 star. - Price. You're paying for the atmosphere, the dim lights, and the hip crowd. The restaurant is small, the dish names are super bizarre for those of us who don't speak... Greek? Italian? and I can see how people have a lot to complain about. I for one, however, am impressed! I'll be back! read more

We came here for our friends birthday. Since it is fancy, I expected this place to be overpriced. So we were a large group (20ish) and the restaurant is super small so we were accommodated in an awkward spot. We did'nt even fit. I could barely move and the neighboring tables were literally 1 foot away from me. Food: The menu was hella confusing. I couldn''t pronounce the name of the entrees and I didn't know what the ingredients were either.... So I ordered this pork thingy that was supposed to be roasted and with veggies. It wasn't even roasted but whatever. The portions were SO SMALL. They gave me one piece of pork. I can't believe I paid so much for one piece of pork. It wasn't even that good. The pork was dry and hard. My friends ordered pasta dishes. You can either order the 1/2 portion of Full one. However, the only difference is the price and the size of the plate because you get the same freaking amount of food!!!!! Who the heck does this?!?!? The small portion and the full portion have the same amount of food!!! Never coming here again. Service was horrible too btw. read more

First time going here with my husband. (glad we left the kids at home) Ambiance was spot on, classy, older distinguish crowd, kind of resemble and after work spot to go to for a drink to unwind with a co-worker, People dressing in dressy casual attire. Staff friendly, food was delivered quickly. unlimited french bread and olive oil ordered= appetizer-brusschetta I ordered- 12hour short beef ribs husband ordered- swordfish special. Excellent food and service. Great cocktails. Pricey but worth it for a special dining experience.

They had just finished a rush and it was toward the end of the might in a Weds, so I'm cutting them some slack. However we waited a long time for service (hostess helped out with drinks and apps). Then we waited over an hour for entrees. And when they arrived, the pork was over cooked to the point we just boxed it up for our dog. We'd waited so long there was no point in sending it back. Others in our party had eaten there before and had a good experience, so maybe the lesson is to go early. read more

What a fantastically delicious meal consisting of pasta and the Funghi Con Crostini. We indulged ourselves with the bread pudding and that gave me mixed emotions. Part of me wished I lived closer so I could eat this dish at least once a week but part of me knows I would spend more time than just once a week at Mezzo. Tonight was my first time at Mezzo. We had a party of 3 reservation (highly recommended to get a reservation) and were seated right away when we arrived. The lighting, decor, and atmosphere are inviting but not too posh and definitely not run of the mill! We had the pleasure of having Heather and TJ be our servers tonight. What a team!!!!! There was a bit of delay in the kitchen but in no way did that detract from my 5 star experience! Tj answered every question about a menu item we had and made great suggestions as well. You can tell he KNOWS the menu and is a vet of a server! Heather was great! Always checked to make sure that our drinks were full, to notify us of any delays, to thank us for being patient (the delay really wasn't bad), and to make sure that we were having a great experience! Listen, this is a farm to table restaurant, locally owned, and you should definitely give them a chance and become a regular asap! I had the filet mignon, hubby had spare rib pasta, and my aunt had the pork (steak/chop?), we shared misto frito for an appetizer, and for dessert we ordered chocolate burdino, white chocolate caramel bread pudding, and affrogato......DIVINE! ALL OF IT! Be like Nike and just do it! Go here, order, enjoy, be courteous to some of the most well trained and friendly staff, if they make a suggestion, try it and enjoy! Tonight was our first time here and our amazing server was Jymard, he was so friendly and genuine and he even picked out our drinks for us (which were excellent btw). We had the carpaccio, the duck carbonara, and the salmone risotto; all three of these dishes were fantastic and so was the pillowy focaccia bread that came out before the meals. We drove to Southern California through Stockton due to Covid-19 and got takeout from this restaurant. It was so good, that we planned our return trip through Stockton just to eat there again. The pasta is freshly made, and the sauces are decadent. The menu changes, but the roast chicken and mashed potatoes were incredible. I ordered the macaroni and cheese for my children, but I scooped so many bites off their plates; it's that good! The salad was fresh and flavorful. We will drive through Stockton again in March, specifically to eat here. It's amazing! read more

This restaurant has so much potential but the next step to success is consistency. I love the menu and the ambiance of the restaurant. The wine list is more than adequate and the ingredients are always fresh. Still, something went missing in my recent visit. First, my garden salad was very fresh, however someone got a little happy with the garlic. It's true, you actually can have too much garlic! My parents ordered the salad too but they didn't complain. Since it was my birthday they probably didn't want to put up a fuss. I ordered the Bucatini which came to the table with cheese sprinkled on top. Cold and not melted, this made me hesitate. I sent it back and they broiled it I guess and it came back fine. A small detail that really should not have taken place. The ingredients were flavorful. The sauce was rich but in good balance with the pasta. There was onion and a two very large meatballs that made the dish more hearty than expected. I didn't even finish the place which proves the amount was right on. My mom had the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Still juicy and seared nicely on the surface. She really enjoyed the dish. My dad ordered the short ribs and said they were tender. I didn't really give him the inquisition so I'll take it that it was decent flavor. He did enjoy the polenta, which is really kinda exotic for his taste buds since he's really more of an El Rancho Steakhouse kinda guy. Tab ordered the gnocchi and it came exactly as advertised. The only downfall is the ingredients didn't really add to the dish and the parts didn't come together to make a 'dish'. I tasted the gnocchi itself and it was fresh and cooked well but the ingredients were a bit misplaced. Keep the gnocchi, find a different venue to carry the flavors please! All things considered, I'd go back to Mezzo and I know it will continue to improve. I would love to see some of the lunch items on the dinner menu as I am a big fan of Carbonara. I challenge any place to make Carbonara better than what I make in my kitchen. It's a throw down! read more

I usually do not go out, but when I do. No doubt Mezzo is one of the places that I definitely consider, aside from their delicious, flavorful rich pasta, they have the best service. They always make me feel welcomed as soon as I walk thru the doors. Especially Heather and Shay! You can find great food anywhere but genuine service like this- no where else. There are times where I don't even know what to get yet I can rely on her to recommend a great dish. Mezzo is a sweet, semi-hidden spot in Brookside where you can always rely on friendly service and smiling faces. The food is great for lunch if you're looking for something delicious and quick or for dinner if you want somewhere gorgeous to stay and have a nice meal with loved ones. The patio is great for lunch under the shade of an umbrella, dinner with fairy lights strung high above you, or even a private party for a special event. The dining room is about half the size of a regular restaurant's, but the atmosphere within it is always warm and welcoming. The menu changes with the season, so I have a long list of favorites to choose from. If smoked salmon is on the menu, you need to try it. The Caesar Salad is a go-to favorite; I like to order mine with chicken. They sometimes serve Lamb Burgers for lunch, which is another must-have while it's around. Their fish specials and ravioli specials are always amazing. As for the drinks, Justine and Alissa are always cooking up the most amazing cocktails. I usually get Sangria or the Lemon Drop, although the drink menu changes almost as often as the food does and always has something new and delicious to offer. The staff overall is top tier; always friendly and attentive. You can tell in the care they take for each and every customer that your experience there matters to them, which I think is the best part. read more
