Nice hidden gem in the Brookside area of Stockton. The outdoor seating is very nice especially in the summer. This food was very simple and straightforward which is what I enjoy in my Italian. It allows all of the seasonal components to really shine. They weren't too heavy on the sauce. The pasta was done well, not overcooked and appropriately seasoned. We had dinner reservations for 6:15pm on a Saturday night, party of five. It was a mixed crowd from casual (nice jeans and t-shirt) to dressy casual (sports coat with jeans). The ambiance is nice & Date night worthy. FOOD: We ordered: seafood linguini, eggplant Parmesan, ravioli, halibut, and the current special - asparagus pasta. All very nice dishes. Mild palate, there was nothing spicy. I would return for a special dinner, when in Stockton. The 4* is primarily for service; crisp but unhurried, and the ambiance which is welcoming and friendly. The food came up a little short, however, and while we just had salads and the risotto, if everything on the menu isn't up to par, somebody should know. Sicilian olives with drinks is a real treat. They have a distinct vanilla note. Lovely. We had the Lawrence and Barbabietole salads which appeared more as platforms for a grill addition so they were a little underwhelming. Then there was the risotto. It is a tough dish to get to the table, we understand that, but don't say you have it if all you are serving is rice. This is not a slam because we will be back but attention must be given across the board or you cannot assume a premium rating. read more

We had a group of 24 people which Mezzo nicely accommodated outside, even though we came to the restaurant with a 8:45 reservation (15 mins before closing). JT served our whole table flawlessly. Go to the Mexican place next door. Walked here from the Marriott Courtyard and looked forward to dinner. Sat at bar. Ordered a bottle of Horse Haven Hills - H3. I was told that was an old wine menu and handed a "new" one. Same damn wine list. Got a Chilean wine. Good. The "waitress" finally took my order. Fried eggplant. Small plate waited forever. This was not the kitchens fault. I had to remind her about it. One piece of eggplant. So tired the small plate chicken. I saw it go up on the heat light and timed to see when it would be served. It took 10 minutes!! TEN minutes. I travel a lot and worked as a waiter for 2 years so I get it. But this is the worst service I have Ever had. I should have said something to the manager but best thought I should leave. And left with leaving a tip. The first time in 40+ years I have ever done that. Very disappointed. We were greeted last night and noticed the restaurant was hoppin'! We'd made reservations and were seated promptly ay 6:15. Our server, Jamard, greeted us! He provided an extraordinary experience. We had the grilled asparagus app, the salmon and a tagliatelle for our mains, and many cocktails. The whole experience was amazing. Jamard provided such warm and engaging service. He is so, so passionate about what he does and you can tell in his mood, interactions, and menu suggestions. As a not so side note, I came in with my same-sexed partner, we are an obvious couple. Sometimes we don't feel completely welcomed by businesses. Every single person we encountered, from staff to guests were so lovely and warm. This is such a rare experience in Stockton. We felt like we were in another city! Our experience at Mezzo last night, for our first kid free date night in a long while, was top notch. Mezzo is now our favorite place! Ate a fantastic dinner with my family last night! We are from out of town visiting family and had a wonderful experience here. The food was great and the service was even better. They were super friendly and accomodating. The manager Sofia was so kind and even helped up set up an early breakfast reservation at a local spot in town. She went above and beyond to make our experience so nice. If you go try the short ribs!! You wont regret it!! Thanks again Sofia for a memorable evening and all your kindness. This was our first time here. The staff was excellent and the food was very good. I found the prices fair. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is my wife and I were on a date and we were placed at a table in the middle of the small restaraunt which put us very close to the bar. It was Friday night and crowded so this made our table very loud. I know next time to ask for a table by the window or on warmer nights to sit on the patio. There definitely will be a next time as the food was delicious. read more

We ate there last night and sat on the patio. Very nice and comfortable out there. The service was excellent. Our server Mia was very good and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed, I had the seafood special and my wife had the charcuterie and both were excellent. After we had finished eating, Chef Ruby came out and talked with us and the rest of the people on the patio. A great Chef and very nice person. After we finished we moved inside to the bar for a glass of wine. Our bartender Christopher & Jymard were both very pleasant and nice to converse with. A huge bowl of watermelon, tomatoes, cantaloupe, cucumber, thin sliced red onion, almonds, soft feta, and (genius move) pickled peppers. I asked for dressing on the side and am glad I did. Though it was really tasty, the salad was amazing even without it. I added salmon ($10) and it was a large piece, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. I wish I could eat this salad every single day. After what we thought was excellent food and service the waiter came over to our table and told us to leave if we weren't going to buy anything thing else. We were there barely 90 mins and spent over $200 plus a generous tip. There were at least three empty tables and no one waiting in the lobby. What we thought was a great dining experience while working out of town turned out to be one of the rudest experiences we've ever encountered. We were not using bad language or acting out in any way. So very disheartening to be treated in this manner. Clearly this restaurant does not value customer experience. So very disappointed. I've visited this illustrious site of business multiple times and after every visit, I've always left with a great deal of satisfaction and delightment. Not only do they serve some of the finest Italian cuisine I've ever had the pleasure of consuming, and not only do they serve some of the finest drinks in Stockton, but they also happen to house some of the most welcoming and kind-hearted staff I've ever been given the liberty of meeting. Our server Shekinah was beyond great. She was extremely attentive, immensely polite, and provided customer service so great it could almost make a grown man cry. I've been hearing great things about this place for years and we finally had the chance for dinner and it was disappointing. We had the calamari appetizer which was great and we should've stopped there. My husband ordered the veal and it was mostly a large helping of Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. I got the salmon which was huge but it was was overcooked and dry. If it had some kind of sauce on it, it would've been better. Also, my potatoes were raw. read more

Took my mom here for mother's day and it was HORRIFIC. They had a special menu for the day with not that many items and it was only brunch. You would think that they order enough for the day especially if they change the menu, but that wasn't the case. Two of the items my mom wanted they ran out. So it made the menu even SMALLER. Then my dad ordered steak and sunny side up eggs. He requested medium but it came back well done! We told our waiter and she just stood there and she didn't believe my dad that he asked for medium. Then she just stood there looking at us until we asked her to bring it back to the kitchen. Then she did that with attitude. She came back with the steak looking better BUT did not inform us that they ran out of sunny side eggs and gave us scrambled eggs instead. She could have at least told us beforehand so we can maybe replace it with something else! She had attitude with us from the very beginning! I understand there can be kitchen issues but at least treat the customers nice! The manager came at the end and apologized which was nice but that doesn't make up for the whole experience that we had for this special day! We also live locally in the area so it's disappointing to know that this place nearby will not be a go to. :/ I understand mistakes happen but when the server is rude to us from the moment we sat down, that's not acceptable on top of everything else. read more

Came here with my daughters for the first time for my wife's birthday. Loved the vibe of the place. Not too big, not too small. Fairly long wait but I got the feeling that was because great care was being taken with the food. The wait was worth it as my meal braised ribs and pasta was excellent. A great dining experience. Best fresh out of the oven bread with olive oil. I can't remember when I have had a better Caesar salad. The lettuce was crisp and the dressing was magnificent.
