My boyfriend and I were just passing through here, and saw it had good reviews so we thought we would check it out. Right as we got inside, we were seated which is always nice! No one enjoys waiting a super long time to be seated. Once we were seated, some chips, salsa and waters came out pretty fast as well. When we opened the menus we were a bit thrown off. 2 fish tacos, with rice and beans cost $15 (and some amount of cents). I've eaten many many soft tacos, and never had 2 that cost more then $6 total. The tacos were good, the service was good, but the prices are a bit insane if you ask me. If I lived here, I probably wouldn't go back just due to the fact that everything was so expensive. Whenever I travel for work, I always want to try something local, and I was willing to take the 40 minute detour with full understanding that the risk meant I may be disappointed. This place was pretty good, but I wasn't blown away enough to award 5 stars. My boyfriend got asada tacos and I got the albondigas. We shared an appetizer of ceviche and the free fried ice cream if you check in on Yelp (with $50 spend). The asada tacos were amazing. The asada was super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The albondigas was only okay, there wasn't much depth to the broth. It could have just been heated up water, it had barely any flavor. The actual meatballs were very good though and the various squashes were nicely done. The ceviche was good and fresh, but mostly standard in flavorings. The fried ice cream was horrible. It had a weird cereal or granola coating that seemed to be mixed in with the ice cream. I had never tried fried ice cream before and was not impressed. My boyfriend said it was nothing like any other fried ice cream and was one of the worst desserts he has ever tasted. Also the service was a bit sub par. I have been giving restaurants a lot of slack due to covid times... But at one point, my boyfriend had to get up to ask for water and he noticed the waitress was standing at the serving area playing a game on her phone. (The restaurant wasn't very busy). She was super nice, but in a non-attentive mood. In summary, I might make it back to try again, but it might be a while. read more

Seafood sauce was interesting to try once, but not something that seemed to pair well with the seafood. The chile pork was pretty good, but came in very small portions compared to the mountains of pretty boring rice and beans. Chips and salsa were basically what you'd get at On The Border. While I wouldn't say the food was "bland," it was definitely unexciting. Maybe we got the wrong things, though one of those items was "Yelp-recommended." We ordered the food from them tonight and unfortunately they did not deliver with they say they will. They show a picture of their chicken Molé with two large pieces of chicken in it but all I received was a pool of flavorless spice with a few leftover shreds of chicken. My son and I were passing through on our way from CA to AZ to move him into college and stopped in Bakersfield for gas and "a bite to eat". We did a quick Yelp search and found Nuestro. My son loves Mexican food and is actually pretty critical when it comes to his chicken enchiladas with traditional red sauce :). We were greeted and seated right away. Overall service was excellent but the food was even better!! We both loved the authenticity of the food and it ranked up there with some of the best Mexican food we've had on our journeys around this great country. Love this place, we go every time we're in town. It's loud, but laid back, rather than a party vibe. They can do big groups, too - there were 10 of us on our most recent visit. Great staff, and they get good seafood even though they're not on the coast. Either my wife or I almost always get the enchiladas suizas. I came to visit my boyfriend out here and I was craving some Mexican food and the first thing that popped up wat this restaurant. I had to try it because I saw all the positive reviews. We got here and within 30 minutes was got sat we order and got our food right away. Service was amazing we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The please is a little whole in the wall place. You know what they say if it's a whole in a wall place it's guaranteed to be good. And yes indeed it was delicious.
