I thought Miceli's was pretty good. the Small pizza was around 30$ which is slightly outrageous even for hollywood blvd in my opinion. the pizza however was very good and crust was nice and crispy! A cute and quaint little Italian restaurant tucked away on the side street of Hollywood Blvd. Miceli's has been around since the 1940's and when you walk in you feel like you walked into that era. The waiter was kind, attentive and upbeat, and he sang in the middle of dinner with the piano player in the corner! The Storybook Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon was perfect pair with the Chicken Parmesan. My husband and I split the meal and each had a cup of wedding soup and it was plenty of food! The fettuccine was amazing and the apple pie a la mode even better. The price was pretty reasonable for LA as well. read more

I go to Los Angeles at least once a year. These days, my trips to LA are confined to leisure activities. Not that I'm a snob (well, maybe just a little), but I typically seek out joints that are Michelin-starred or are close to it in order to elevate the experience of our rare vacation time. To be quite frank, on most trips, I typically steer clear of any restaurant in a high tourist area. This year, we stayed on Hollywood Blvd. at the Hollywood Roosevelt for a classic film festival. In keeping with this theme, we decided to forego the fine dining routine and focus on joints that were around when Frank, Dino and the rest of the rat pack were in their glory. Bonus points if an eatery was in walking distance from the hotel. Miceli's was one of the few dinner restaurants that we chose simply based on outside appearance and looking as if it had been around for more than a few decades. And my better half was charmed by the old-school, somewhat kitschy, ambience. After doing some quick research, thanks to Mr. Google, and discovering that Miceli's has been around since the forties and claiming to be LA's oldest Italian Restaurant, we decided to give it a whirl on a Friday night. The menu is chock-full of old school, Italian favorites. I chose the Chicken Cacciatore. It met my expectations and was satisfying...there was nothing to find fault, but also not above the ordinary. The service was fine, but we did have to wait a bit in order to get our check. Overall, Miceli's is worth a stop if you're looking for an old-school experience, with traditional Italian dishes, and are in the Hollywood Boulevard area. If we're back again next year and get some hunger pangs around lunchtime, we'll certainly consider making the hike over to Miceli's; perhaps, this time for a meatball sandwich. read more

My friend and I came here for an early dinner and when you walk in from outside, it's very Italian looking but with a shade of intimacy. above you are hundreds of empty Chianti bottles with writing all over, hung in the rafters. The tables have the red and white checkerboard cloth and a pizza stand ready for use. I chose for my first visit not to go along those lines and instead had a combination of spaghetti with two meatballs and cheese ravioli. My friend had an antipasto salad and I partook in the salami which was actually the best I had ever experienced. Our server was really nice and we stayed just long enough to hear the pianist take his lead and tickle the ivories before we left. I will have to come back for the pizza and see if what I saw across the other table is actually good. read more

As for the food; try your local highschool cafeteria on spaghetti day, the food experience will be more to your liking, guaranteed. Touristy, a little worn, but an overall good experience. The food is good and it's a lot. The wait staff has to balance singing and serving, so not the fastest, but what's your hurry? Stay awhile, just make a reservation. Tip: if you want to see over the singers ask to be seated in the balcony. read more

We had a very nice time. We love trying old restaurants, my partner indulges me because I live in the past lol. My partner even joked about us "cheating" on the place across the street we've been too many times bc i love all things vintage and good food from restaurants still serving their meals from decades ago is my happy place and what a great place this is! We had a show to see at the Pantages and decided to finally try the infamous Miceli's and it did not disappoint. First, our waitress Kelly was fantastic. She was so nice and imagine our surprise when she took an interlude to sing with pianist. Kelly has the voice of a Disney princess, no exaggeration, her rendition of Que Sera Sera was beautiful. I love jazz and I recognized every song the pianist was playing and my partner joked that I was going to get sung to if I kept singing every word lol. Pianist was great! Point is, if you want a good meal and love a nice jazz piano, this is your place. The food was so good. My favorite was the fettuccine Alfredo and we didn't even eat that fresh!, we got it to go. I got the the lasagna for my meal and it was great just too cheesy for me (this is a very personal me thing as I know folks love cheese pulls and all things cheesy but i just cant lol all things stringy, cheese, banana strings etc make me gag ..you get the point) but the sauce and meat was delicious. My partner got the sausage sandwich which I had a bite of and it was delicious. The house salad was great as well. Unfortunately the pizza oven wasnt working while we were there so no pizza when we tried to order one, but this place was so lovely we didnt care! Happened to be in Hollywood and heard this place was good from a friend!! It's the oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood. The inside is super cozy and dark, a very relaxing and romantic dining experience. There is live music (piano) and even some singing, which was pretty loud at times if you're sitting close but overall added to the ambiance. I felt transported out of Hollywood into Italy. It has the homey feel of a mom and pop place with the elegance of a date night restaurant. I ordered the chicken fettuccine ($20.95) which was a hearty serving of pasta and chicken, seasoned well and hot!! The best part of the meal was the free bread rolls and REAL BUTTER. The bread is unlimited - say less!!!! The rolls were so warm and perfect, I would come again just for those. They do offer plastic to-go boxes for the pasta, and pizza boxes if needed. Water with lemon is provided for free, and they have a large selection of wines and other beverages (free refills on sodas and teas)!! There are bathrooms available. They also give you free lollipops and souvenir matches when you leave. Overall, I enjoyed the food and the location, but do feel like it was a little too expensive for what I got. Spaghetti is one of life's simple pleasures- such an easy to cook and delicious meal. Whether it's my mom dumping on a bottle of cold Ragu or following the elegant but easy NYT marinara recipe, it's so good and easy. This begs the question as to why I had what may be the worst spaghetti I had ever had in my life. The noodles tasted as if they were cooked 8 hours beforehand, sat in a pot and then were tossed in a pot of dirty boiling water and reheated. I wish this was the worst part, but sadly the pasta was the best. The marinara sauce tasted like it had been made 3 days prior and then sat in a warm oven for 36 hours until I put it was resurrected from death and served to me over a plate of noodles that were stuck together. This is merely getting 2 stars is twofold- the waiters all took turns singing cheesy music. I didn't like it at all, but I imagine if you're a "theme park adult" then waiters singing zippity doo da is just the kind of ambiance you'd be looking for. The other reason is the waiter leaving us a whole carafe of Diet Coke at the table so he could go crack bad jokes at other tables and not have to worry about filling up our beverages. He also had a helluva a voice. This has been the first review I've logged in well over a decade, but if you mess up something as simple as spaghetti which was supposed to be the first joy I experienced that day, then you get the ire of this reviewer. It'd been over a decade since I'd visited. In the past the food was good and there was some history, so decided to visit again. Unfortunately it's lost its luster. I don't know if it's due to the area declining (feels more like Holly-rough than Holly-weird these days) or the abundance of other choices, but sadly this isn't the Miceli's I'd remembered. Maybe it's the chaos on the street outside that alters your perception but upon entering the dimly lit eatery, instead of feeling atmospheric, it seemed dark and dingy. The server was friendly and there were other patrons, although not crowded since we visited around 4pm on a Saturday. The real disappointment was the food. In the past the pizza was tasty but this time it lacked flavor all around - from the toppings to the crust. None of us enjoyed it. We got a large for about $30 and it fed three people, but for half the price the takeout pizza joints taste better. We also got the chicken and marinara appetizer and it was OK at best. Sadly, this will be my last visit. I hope they can find a way to turn things around. As Hollywood's oldest Italian restaurant, would love for it to continue its history. read more

A must when you're in Hollywood! This place has so much charm and would be great for families... or even a fun date night. Nestled in the heart of Hollywood, it's hard to find a good sit down place with a decent parking situation that isn't $20. We found metered parking nearby and since we came later on a Sunday it was free. (If you know Hollywood- this is a steal!) When you get in, you immediately feel that old Italian charm. The restaurant actually boasts that it's the "oldest restaurant in Hollywood." And yes- there's live music and singing with a pianist and singing waiters that truly makes this a gem. For drinks - we were looking for a red wine. The house Chianti (around $20) didn't disappoint. Definitely cheaper and more bang for your buck than if you ordered 3 glasses of wine a piece. The food style here is homestyle Italian- nothing fancy and large portions for the family. I decided to follow other Yelpers and order a pizza. For 3 people - a medium pizza and an entree was plenty. The Margherita pizza (around $25) was definitely my favorite of the two. It was thin crust and had a nice garlic flavor. We added mushrooms and it was perfect. For our entree, we got the veal parmigiana ($24.95). It was alright.... good if you like veal, but nothing to brag about. Dessert was really good! We shared Uncle Frank's Tiramisu ($7.95) which was so light and creamy. Overall I really enjoyed this place for two main reasons: the atmosphere and the pizza. I will be back! read more

Birthday celebration. The food is so good here. I haven't been here for a while but my family took me here and went right to the wax museum after. Too much fun. Our waiter Cale worked very hard back n forth don't know how he does it. Great waiter. And the young lady at the front to greet u into restaurant so nice Catherine. Highly recommend this restaurant. Reallyyyyyy good food Italian. Public Parking around the corner $20, but if u get it validated just alittle before the 2 hours are up u get $16.00 back and get to parking lot to give to the parking guy. It was not busy. Been coming here for years but haven't been in ages. The food is SO disappointing. No thought put in to anything. Kitchen not attentive. (Asked for my side no have no pasta but it did). Bland flavors. Undercooked bread. Antipasti salad was not impressive. Hardly any lettuce. Original lasagna was not a beautiful layered piece. It was like a mush. Vegetable parmigiana was steamed vegetables and Celery. Celery? with a drop of sauce and cheese. Meat sauce had no discernible meat. Poor tasting pizza, it was better years ago. When bringing complaint about poor tasting pizza with very little cheese- the manager tells you 8000 other people love it. The managers can't take criticism, and I've eaten there over 29 years when the pizzas were quite good. Apparently, his goto rebuttal is s to accuse you of wanting free food- the pizza was terrible, manager has a poor attitude about criticism, and we did not take the uneaten pizza with us after he took it off the bill. It was only a 4 slice pizza, we ate two slices and didn't eat the rest. If the attitude and food quality was better- then it would be more crowded with more than 4 oeople. I read in other reviews about a manager complaining about someone leaving less than 20% tip for a waitress who was more concerned about singing than providing food service. This place was great- with waiting lines- back in the day! We know good tasting pizza, this place does not have a good quality pizza- it's thin, barely any cheese, and a crappy manager (old guy) that can't take any criticism. We have eaten here over 60 times over 20 years, it went downhill after 7 years sgo. The manager tried to blame the doe, the changed ingredients, but can't take any responsibility for his role- to ensure it was as good as it was years back. Just raise the price if it cost more to make. No need to attack patrons, he followed us out and accused us of wanting free food,hardly the case- but seems like an a""*"le anyways. read more

We are visiting from out of town and found Miceli's on Yelp. They did not disappoint. The food was phenomenal, the staff was more than accommodating and pleasant, and the singing was beautiful. Food was good, however when it came to paying, our server wasn't happy with the tip we left, he was quiet stern and forceful on what he thought we should do, in return, doubling the tip we originally left. He essentially said he wasn't paid enough and that we as customers must make up the difference for him, which I do not believe. We don't go here for the food necessarily but for auld lang syne. It's exactly the same as it ever was, and I love that! There's many different floors but don't confine yourself to the first floor. The second level has the wonderfully cheerful piano player-- don't forget to tip! I dined with a group of eight, gargantuan platters of pasta arrived heavily dosed in garlic. No Hollywood vampires for us! I had a delightful side salad with extras like garbanzos, olives and pepperoncini. Also a bowl of minestrone that was satisfyingly homemade and chockablock with vegetables. Our waiter was Christopher, who even regaled us by singing a tune at the piano!
