This restaurant has been a Fairhaven staple for decades. This is not the place to go to if your friends enjoy fried seafood. But this is the place to go to if you like succulent prime rib, delicious pizzas, seafood right off the boat, and let's not forget the home made blue cheese dressing (helllllooooo)! Though I've been moving from town to town around the greater New Bedford area for most of my life, more often than not I have a birthday dinner at Mike's restaurant. What you see is what you get and what you get is rather delicious in my opinion. From the clam boil pizza to the double boil lobster special if you're from Fairhaven and have never been to Mike's restaurant... there must be something wrong with you. I was happy to know that Melissa Gagne was at the helm making sure everyone was being taken care of properly. I recently went there to celebrate a good review at my job and my fiancé took me there because it's my favorite restaurant and I have not been there in quite some time.I was happy to know that even though I did not eat there in awhile that the open faced prime rib sandwich was still on point and smothering the small piece of Italian bread which was downing in the au jus sauce. I opted for the side salad with the delicious blue cheese dressing and a nice cold IPA (or two) to wash it down with. My fiancé decided to indulge in the house special which was grilled chicken breast on top of a bed of delicious butternut squash ravioli with carrots, zucchini and a light cream sauce. In this day and age when many things are changing constantly it's great to know that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". That being said, you must be an out of towner if you are reading this review. Not even sure how this place is still open to be honest the food is fresh out of the freezer under seasoned and the prime rib from 20 years ago that used to be good here is fair at best seems like instead of seasoning all food their package broth for this holds all the salt in the building! read more

I have been to this restaurant in the past and it was good. Tonight, not good. Our waitress whom I thought was having a bad night but was corrected by my friends who frequent the restaurant said that this was normal. The food began to arrive and the chowder was good. The salad was good. The bread was good. The prime rib... It was supposed to be 18-20 oz. The bone must have been 14 of those 18 with a good portion fat and gristle. I talked to the waitress and as I said, she seemed to be having a normal/bad night according to my friends. I asked for the manager, and explained the situation (leaving out the waitress issue and concentrating on the food instead). The response was, "thanks I'll look into that". That was it. Nothing else. No offer to make things right. I wasn't even paying for the meal but thought that an adjustment should have been made for my friend who was. This is one of my favorite restaurants! For family dining, or out on a date, this place is a great value. Cocktails are consistantly good, service is great, and the food comes out of the kitchen fast. The prime rib and seafood are great! Expect a wait for a table on Fri and Sat night, we always try to get a booth. All entree's include salad or soup, ( blue cheese is terrific, chowda is, too), and 2 sides, plus garlic bread. Usually my fiance and I have 2 entrees, and 2 drinks a piece, we get out of there for under $65.00! Always meets or exceeds our expectations! My husband and I came here to eat for the first time after craving some crab legs. We got the alaskan king crab legs appetizer ($24) and were pleasantly surprised with the price as well as the delicious crab legs! An inexpensive Lunch Menu is the highlight to dining here. The food is served pretty quick and the service is good overall. I can't recommend the instant potatoes though. I had awesome steak tips there this week. Very very very tasty. They were so amazingly tender that I didn't even use a knife to cut them. The portion size was good and they gave a lot of side dishes; I had salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, and apple sauce, all of which were adequate. Amazing...in one word. Go here. Started off with mussels for appetizer, it could have been an entire meal for one person (me and my buddy went), $8. Meal came with great bread and a salad. I ordered fish with a couple sides, buddy got chicken parm. Final bill was $51 for two people, keep in mind we each had a $5 drink and appetizer. So I have been going to Mikes for 35 years. Usually my go to place. Tonight, we wanted pizza so of course, we like Mikes the best. Got seated right away. First round of drinks came. They were very good. Server takes our order. This is where it goes downhill. Chowder comes, its fine....45 minutes goes by. No pizza.People around us are getting served quickly. Server walks by several times. Never stops at our table. Finally, an hour goes by. She stops. We order another drink and ask her if she could check. She says cheese is ready but others are not. Really? Not very busy and people that came in after already have their pizza. Please! Be honest. Pizza finally comes and it was delicious but no place is worth waiting an hour and a half for pizza. read more

What a great restaurant for lunch or dinner.. A very reasonably priced luncheon menu, with very large portions of delicious and made to order entrees, as well as a very varied and large dinner menu with great seafood dinners of excellent portion size and an open faced prime rib plate even the hungriest diner will be challenged to finish. Mike's has a great beer, wine selection, as well as a full bar for a more "potent" cocktail.. Mike's has been showcased on the Phantom Gourmet recently, and they should be very proud of the review.. One of our favorite restaurants! We always get linguica pizza and cheese pizza. It's crumbled, not sliced.. And the bar style pizza is the BEST you will have anywhere. We have tried Cape Cod Café many times and Town Spa in Stoughton. They aren't as good as Mike's. You won't find a better bar pizza anywhere! The clam chowder is fantastic and the chicken and rice soup is exactly the same as when I was a little kid. They serve warm bread with drawn butter and garlic on the side - which my kids thought was awesome. The stuffed quahog is fantastic too. Mike's atmosphere is comfortable, casual and our server Kerry was a sweetheart. We would recommend going a little bit early for dinner as it gets very busy. I have been coming to Mike's since I was a baby. My mom is from Fairhaven, MA. Some of my fondest memories are coming here with my Grandparents and family when I was growing up. Now, my husband and I bring our boys here, as a tradition, at least once or twice annually -- after we visit Fort Phoenix , Battleship Cove, or heading back from the Cape. As my entree appeared as I put my spoon in my soup for the first taste...the server suggested she could put my grilled swordfish under the heat lamp until I was ready for it! Then told me the restaurant wasn't very busy so the kitchen must be still working fast! Then when I paid, the manager told me that next time if I'm not in a hurry to let them know and they will pace the meal better!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? My book was open and I asked about WiFi...so I was obviously not in a hurry! This is a locals' place. No frills, honest steaks, lobsters, fresh seafood, pizza. Baked potato wrapped in foil. Blue cheese butter is as " gourmet" as they get. But the steaks are cooked perfectly, portions insure that there will be leftovers to be brought home, and the staff treats you like a regular even if it is the first time you've there. Weekends are busy and there's little or no room for overflow waiting for a table, plus the decor is straight out of the 70's. A bit too busy for a romantic dinner but this is the place to bring the whole family to celebrate Uncle Fred's 75th Birthday. I have to admit I had mediocre expectations for my visit to Mike's today, but I was very pleasantly surprised at what I received. We were greeted, sat, and attended to very promptly. I like a menu with just enough to choose from. This menu is classic. I haven't eaten here in at least a year or so and things have changed for the better food and service wise. We love a good Shiraz, and they had one. Perfect for our meal. My girlfriend asked waitress for suggestion on fish. Our waitress was very clear on what she preferred and strongly suggested the broiled Scrod. I went with a Bourbon Steak tip. My green beans were fresh and cooked just the way I like them. The mashed potatoes were light and creamy. My girlfriend enjoyed her side (rice pilaf) as well. The servers were right on top of our needs and were practically reading our minds. I really enjoyed my experience today and recommend Mike's for a kind of comfort food, and then some, done right. read more

We have been to this place many times, and have not had a problem with service, however, toinght the food was so so bad we (my boyfriend and i) had to write this review. First off, the salads were old and rusty, he had to send his back, because it looked like it was made two days ago. The waitress acknowleged that the quality was off, but blamed it on the refridgeration. I recieved a single boiled lobster but didn't recognize the chemical that was delivered in place of butter. I had to ask for butter. My boyfriend ordered the chicken alfredo with broccoli on the side, halfway thru he stopped eating (which is unusual), he took the leftovers home. When we got home, he heated up the leftovers and made me take a bite. All i could taste was crab. Where did the crab taste come from?? Pans not cleaned properly. He finally explained the taste is what made him stop eating. So sad..another restaurant off the list. I am more than able to spend money on good food, but sadly in my area, owners don't care. read more

yeah..... abbbbbsolutely not, worst service ever to have concerns how the owner hires a waitress that my family and i always seem to run to every time for more than 10 years now. the one with short black hair, we never liked the way how she serves us. I only come her once in a blue moon and when she happened to serve us, we were ordering food and we wanted to replace two sides of veggies with a bowl of chowder. She said we couldnt do that at all. It was strange because the other waitresses, without fail, did it no problem and charged us few cents and all. So we pointed it out to her that she happened to be the only one to not let us have the substitution and she still refused. Very strange. We didnt want to be "those kinds of customers" because we really arent, but the way she had said that it couldn't be done, it sounded really rude and we didnt want to tolerate that. so my sister pointed it out and she LAUGHED. okay lady, thats not exactly how you handle service, do you think you're at a bar or something? We arent butthurt just because things didnt go our way, but if someone pointed out that you're rude, it could be a laughter to anyone but dont laugh at a customers face after they felt you're being rude to them. at least apologize and settle it better. We asked for the manager after that incident and he said that we CANNOT substitute 2 veggies with a chowder, which is completely fine, any idiot can spend another few dollars for a side of chowder. I used to enjoy this restaurant years ago, but now if you gave me a gift card I would probably not even use it. Have had to send back food more than once whether it is an entree or side for being cold, and food is so flavorless. Only thing I can honestly say I like from there is their pizza. If you're looking for fresh, good quality food just go to one of the million other local joints around. Everything I have ate here recently tasted frozen and not fresh. The food is decent but we didn't really get what we wanted. My wife and I both ordered rib eye "steak". What we got was roasted prime rib that had been broiled for a minute to make it look grilled. The meat was very fatty like prime rib usually is. If it had been grilled at high temp like we wanted, the fat would've melted into the meat and would've been good. The garlic mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The clam chowder was very good and so was the service. I don't think we'll be rushing back. If I come back, I would not order the rib eye steak. read more

So,we really wanted to like Mikes because we used to go there regularly and haven't been in years. Things started out well with a generous serving of wine, the chowder was rich and tasty just like we remembered it. The salad was fresh, old school, with great blue cheese dressing on the side. Then our meals came and they were very disappointing. My husband ordered the prime rib and it was a huge piece of meat but it was not good quality and had a strange flavor to it.
