Great location, excellent & speedy service, a menu designed to please a wide variety of breakfasters. I had the roasted red pepper omelet with grilled onions, spinach, and goat cheese. The filling was delicious, but the egg itself had been beaten with a little acid to stiffen it--I guess to make it easier to cook quickly and fold around the veggies. I can't respect that. Otherwise, everything was on point. I'll definitely return, but try something besides an omelet. read more

This is my favorite diner in LA. It's authentic, considering it's been around since the 30s. It's delicious too. I have eaten both the devilishly delicious Devil's mess and the so-good-you-can't-believe-it's-vegan Angel's mess and been oh so happy both times. The coffee is WONDERFUL! I could drink 8 cups and yeah, they fill it up every time without so much as a scornful glance. In fact, their servers are so sweet and friendly and they recognize people. I love the fact that there's a place I can go where they already know what I want and they give it to me. I know, it's simple, but there it is. My husband and I love weekend breakfast, but I'm not a huge fan of eggs. I'm not totally vegan, but lean that way. Anyway, this place has an amazing variety of vegan breakfast dishes (with tofu instead of eggs) that can cure any hangover! Just tried it for the first time last weekend this may become our new favorite weekend breakfast. We didn't have to wait for a table, although the place was steadily busy, which to me is the perfect medium. I had heard that the service here wasn't good, but it seemed to me that everyone working in the restaurant worked really well together to make sure all the guest's needs were met. Pretty solid breakfast spot. Outdoor seating, strong coffee, and generally pretty good meals -- huge portions for reasonable prices. And it seems like their specialty is mixing up a bunch of stuff on the menu into one big pile, which I back. Unfortunately, I had a hankering for simple biscuits and gravy the other day. I can't fault them on the portions -- it was enormous, and less than four bucks -- however, the gravy was pretty bland and boring, and the biscuits were a little too thick, not that light, fluffy, flaky style we all love. Maybe they made the biscuits thick on purpose because there was no escape for them from the gravy, as the meal was served in a bowl filled to the brim with the aforementioned gravy. A big, cheap meal, but not a great one. Don't get make my same mistake, get one of their specialties. -K p.s. I've been to Millie's many a time and thought it was about time to give a nod to my favorite sidewalk cafe to frequent on lazy sundays with my dog. I've always had great quick service. Which is a surprise from a place who's T-shirts say 'service with a fuck you'. But I guess thats all part of the charm. I've never been disappointed by breakfast here. I usually get the Banana Usual (somewhere around $12). Fluffy banana, roasted walnut pancakes served with two eggs, chicken-apple-walnut sausage and a scoop of rosemary potatoes. Delicious! I've also tried the huevos rancheros, and the Neptunes Mess. All were delicious, but the Banana Usual tops them all. I also love their biscuits with jam. I have a feeling the Machaca would be a great hangover cure. The most recent time I was there I tried lunch for the first time and I was disappointed. I got the teriyaki stir-fry which was served at a tepid temperature. The veggies were soggy, as were the noodles they were served upon and the whole thing had way too much sauce on it, it was more like a soup. They have a lot of great vegan/vegetarian options and make everything fresh. Great place, minus half a star for hit-or-miss lunches and half a star for the higher-than-average breakfast prices. read more

The service was awful, our waitress was on a different planet we didn't get our water til the second time we asked and my boy friends fries did not come out at all...not sure if she forgot about them or what she basically said after our meal was done "do u want something else instead of fries" us....um ok I guess so.... I would give it a 5 if they permanently made THE BEST SANDWICH I'VE EVER HAD a part of their regular menu instead of just as a special that I've only been able to get once. $6. Brie. carmelized onion. apple. panini. with rosemary home fries on the side. I have tried to duplicate it. That is how much I loved it. I posted a picture of this sandwich on facebook. I have asked for it the 3 times since that I've been. With that being said, I've settled for other things that are actually on the menu and not an elusive special. I'm a vegetarian, but most of my friends are not, so Millie's is a great place to get your bacon and your fake-on on. The benedicts are good, the service is good - while you might have to wait 5 - 10 minutes, they're extremely efficient at seating people. With a 20 person line I didn't wait more than 10 minutes. One of the stars is for having coconuts, fresh cut, and so the water from the coconut is so tasty, extremely hydrating for your hangover, (I don't drink). or before you go on that hike and they open it right, so you can scoop the meat inside for more nutrients. Healthnut dream and they're cheaper than the grocery store:) Another star for gluten free pancakes and they were pretty good. Another star for the outdoor seating and the variety of people who eat here. Love that. Why don't they have organic eggs? Come On! How can you NOT love Millie's? Seriously one of the coziest brunch spots with the best, most nicest customer service EVER. My first visit, I had the Huevos Rancheros...BIG MISTAKE. Unfortunately my meal sucked but of course the bf orders the Heavenly Hash and it comes out amazing. Hash and potatoes...to die for. (Side note: doesn't matter how great a dish is, my dish ALWAYS comes out wrong...I don't blame Millie's, I blame myself for picking the one bad dish on the menu that ended up drowning in something..,it was just soggy) Yesterday, we decided to go again. I think my picky bf finally found his spot! This time I got the Chicken Fried Steak (in chicken) and he got the Irish Benedict. OF COURSE HIS TASTES BETTER but either way, mine was pretty good. I gave myself a pat on the back for picking a good dish. Just next time, I'm going to ask for my gravy on the side. There was SOOO MUCH GRAVY (which was delicious) but it got cold and my chicken fried steak was super soggy. Other than that, the rosemary potatoes DELISH! The eggs easy side up DELISH!!! Super delicious throw down grub in the heart of hipster hell. Big brunch and lunch menu with something for everyone, even verified veggies. Timing is everything- too early and you're surrounded by toddlers named 'Amethyst' and 'Chipotle'. I'm giving it two stars because of the service and not the food. I ordered the Irish eggs Benedict which came with rosemary potatoes that were nothing to Ooooh or aaaaah about. One of the eggs was over cooked and the other was semi poached. Underneath the eggs is a corn beef hash that tasted like it came out of a can. We came here on a Sunday at 11:00 with a party of six and queued up. We waited about 20 minutes, and then were seated inside. They were very quick to get water and drink orders to the table, and then asked for our food order before most of us even had a chance to crack the (extensive) menu open. We are vegetarian and we ordered the veggie mess with a biscuit and the fresh blueberry pancakes. Overall, we weren't impressed with the way they handled the eggs in our savory dish. Other members in our party we're also underwhelmed by their omelettes. The side of rosemary potatoes were also pretty forgetful/not worth the calories. The biscuit looked like a muffin and was pretty good. The blueberry pancakes were huge and delicious. A full stack had three pancakes and even after upgrading the syrup to real maple syrup, it was under $10. It really is kind of a "diner" spot-- lots of food, nothing spectacular, not too hard on the wallet, quick in and out. So while we probably won't be back with just us, we could see ourselves being back if in a large group with mixed dietary restrictions (lots of vegan/gluten free options) and weren't looking to spend a small fortune on brunch as can happen in silverlake.
