Not the best steakhouse, but definitely not a bad option. - Braised beef (bar menu) was wonderful and tender - Caprese salad (bar menu) was not great - the mozzarella and tomatoes lacked a lot of taste - Hamburger (bar menu) was good and comes with crispy fries - Carpaccio (bar menu) was okay. The crostini that it comes with were perfectly crispy, but the sauce they used on the meat, was not the best. Great food, great service, great ambiance. This is one of the finest dining experiences I've had in a long time. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu -- and patient with a fool like me, taking time to answer all my questions. Service was PERFECT! Not too fast, not too slow - perfectly solicitous and not intrusive. I was sitting on the fence between two entrees and the waitperson told me her favorite was the sea bass, so I took a chance. So glad I did. Other staff later expressed the same sentiment. The fish was the best fish I ever ate, and all the way here in Milwaukee. Best bokchoi I've ever had (and I've never had good bokchoi in the U.S.; even beats the bokchoi I've had in China). And while I wasn't happy that I had to wait to get a reservation, it ended up being worth the wait; the place was quieter later than earlier and I had a nice relaxing meal. Wow! One of the best steaks I have ever had - better than Capitol Grill, Morton's, Fleming's, Homestead or Ruth Chris! I sat at the bar and had the NY Strip with blue cheese crust which was only $2 more - medium rare, with a baked potato. They brought out a large dinner roll with a tray of Wisconsin Butter, Blue Cheese Butter - amazing! - and olive oil with balsamic vinegar. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender and flavorful, and the Blue Cheese on top was plentiful but not over done. The baked potato was the size of a Nerf football yet tender and cooked all the way through - and with that Wisconsin butter was so good. It paired perfectly with the Malbec wine. Becky the manager came over to check on me, and the Chef even came out to say hello. Everyone was super friendly and the service was second to none. I'm from Portland and was just visiting but will definitely make the Milwaukee ChopHouse my go to spot when in Milwaukee. read more

The seafood dishes in the meal we very good. Their shrimp cocktail was a bit different than others in that the shrimp was grilled and marinated but delicious nevertheless. The steaks well that's another story. For a restaurant with "ChopHouse" in its name you would expect them to have their steaks on point, not the case. The prime aged rib eye was the driest steak I have ever had. The steak was ordered medium but came out medium rare which still couldn't help the dryness it was very bizarre. Absolutely no juice on the plate when it came out or when it was cut. I ordered it au poivre but that was not a sauce it simply meant they rubbed it with peppercorns. No shallots or cognac very odd. Other than the char and black pepper the steak was flavorless. Service was below average. We had to ask for bread, drink, and water refills. The waiter did comp the steak due to the obvious issues it had which was nice but I would have rather paid for a steak I was able to enjoy. read more

I stopped in after a long day at a conference at about 6PM. The restaurant was virtually empty. I ordered a chopped salad and flat iron steak. I was served a hard roll with 4 options of dressings. They were all good. The chopped salad was good. Flavorful and a decent size. I ordered my steak medium and it was slightly overlooked. The sides, roasted potatoes and green beans were subpar. Overall the food was pretty good, not quite sure it equaled its price though. read more

I will start by saying that I am not one to write many negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with the service here. The food is good (although I have had as good or better steak at other places). However, for the price, I would have expected better service than I received. There was a live bug in my salad (which I did not discover until I had eaten part of the salad and then it crawled out from under a leaf). Luckily, I did not eat the bug. Now, had that been the only problem, I would not have been as upset (things happen). When I brought this to the attention of the server, they were great (removed the salad, asked if I wanted another, told the manager). However, although the manager aplologized, he did nothing else...did not take anything off the tab, did not offer a free dessert or a free drink or anything. Did I mention I was in a group of about 8 people? That's a lot of money that we spent that we will spend elsewhere for better food, but especially better service nect time. read more

We love the ChopHouse! It's now our place to celebrate special occasions. While the pricing is a little expensive it's not outrageous and the food, service and ambiance are excellent! I'm personally not a seafood fan so the steak filet is a favorite, (for my husband the rib-eye) and all the salads are wonderful! However, we've gone with seafood lovers and they thoroughly enjoyed the lobster tail, calamari and lobster mac and cheese. We have yet to order anything we didn't enjoy here. The sides are definitely to share and the desserts are incredible. We normally don't order dessert when we go out but since we've come here for birthdays and anniversaries we indulged and soooo worth it! We had an early reservation at 5:30 pm prior to a Chieftains concert at the Riverside. We were warmly welcomed and immediately escorted to our table. ThIs was our first time at the Chop House. The restaurant is beautifully appointed with dark woodwork, white table cloths and subtle, yet romantic lighting. Our water glasses were filled by staff just as we sat down. Our waitress Caitlin, introduced us to the menu specials and took our drink orders. As we are beer lovers, we ordered our favorites and were completely satisfied. The menu is what you would expect at an upscale steak House. We were immediately attracted to the Prime Rib offering. We each ordered the smaller portion of the two cuts of meat. We also shared sides of garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Our Prime Rib was magnificent. It was perfectly cooked medium rare. The portion size would be considered a large cut at most other local establishments. The sides were equally large and more than we could eat. This was a memorable meal and for those of you who remember quality restaurants no longer with us, it as as good as Selen's House of Prime on Layton Avenue. I was staying at the downtown at the classic Hilton hotel city center for a business conference when I had a chance to enjoy this really great restaurant for dinner. It is another classic gem. I will begin this review by noting my company has secured a 50% discount for people like myself, so if I had to pay full price for the meal I had, I probably would be more critical, but I have no doubt it would not change the robust flavors and spectacular service we received - it would only be noted that the meal is pricey. I threw those tasty bites back like the juicy, succulent, tender lil' bites of meat they were. One by one. Pop pop pop. No shame. My table mates ordered everything from salads to chicken to steak and all sorts of sides. Not one complaint. I tried the trio side dish: green beans, creamed spinach, and lobster mac and cheese. Holy smokes - even if I could make it at home, I would still want to experience it here. Great atmosphere. Business savvy for the travelers and meeting from the hotel clientele, yet also dimmed and sexy for any romance that was brewing, as well. I love places like this; sexy and high end. But today I'm in Milwaukee, my experience a year ago was fantastic, the food great meat was a bit undercooked but the staff whom attended to me were superb.. Today I have to say I'm sitting picking my nose cuz my food is taking forever to serve, my server is duller then a dead person about to be buried & the staff have no professionalism, no greeting, no simple hello welcome!! I will prob not return to this chophouse but as I started this-i love the one in chicago & Ann Arbor & couple others I've been to as I travel a lot!!!! I've never actually had dinner at the Chophouse but if you stay in the Hilton you can order from the Chophouse via room service. I've only once been disappointed (overcooked salmon) but every other time, it's been good. I have a preference for the salmon, asparagus, and shrimp cocktail. My friend and I stumbled upon this place while we were in search for a place to eat and I had just decided I was in the mood for some meat. Little did we know that it was inside the Hilton hotel in downtown Milwaukee, and it looked a little more on the "chi-chi" (upscale) kind of eating that we weren't really prepared for, since I was just wearing a T shirt. Anyway, we went in. The food was amazing! We were first served with fresh ciabatta dinner rolls, which, on the table had an array of dippers for it: fresh wisconsin butter, a sun dried tomato spread, some goat cheese-like spread, and olive oil. My friend decided on the potato crusted sea bass and I had the filet mignon with a side of asparagus topped with feta and bacon. I accompanied it with a glass of the Louis Latour pinot. The meat sliced like butter and the sea bass was nice and flaky. It was a great meal, and definitely highly recommended for the price. read more

This restaurant is inside the Hilton Milwaukee. Place is decent. It was full when I came in but had a bar table open so I was able to sit in. I ordered French soup which was not too bad but a tad salty for me. I also ordered calamari and the waitress was nice to tell me that she will make it only a half order - she was right, the serving size was perfect for me. I also had my lemon drop and i loved it! The mix was so good and if I didn't feel tipsy after my glass, I'll have another one. Overall, I was satisfied when I left and headed back to my room. Wow, what a great dinning experience. We were flying out Monday morning so stayed overnight down the street so we thought we would give this place a try. They were very busy on the Sunday night we were there. Had to wait a bit at the bar, we had a drink and the bartender was very good, nice & friendly. I was not super hungry so I had the crab cakes appetizer and a ceasar salad for my dinner. I could tell that the crab cakes were freshly made, they were excellent. Dressing on the salad was as it should be, very flavorful, and just the right amount. Hubby had the prime rib and he said it was top notch and cooked just right as ordered. When the waiter brought out our bread, he forgot the butter. We didn't pounce on the bread right away so I didn't notice he forgot to bring butter. When I asked for some, he took the bread back as well because he knew it was no longer warm and brought us a fresh warm loaf. It is things like this that bring this place up to a 5. Upon leaving, the bartender saw us walking out and waved and told us to have a nice trip. I REALLY wish this place was closer, we are about an hour away. Food here is great. The crab cakes are phenomenal, and the lobster bisque is, in my opinion (and I've had the lobster bisque at pretty much every high-end restaurant in the city), the best in the city. Steaks were perfectly prepared and delicious. My bone in rib-eye was a perfect medium rare and was as juicy and flavorful as any I've had. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Since this restaurant is in a hotel the atmosphere feels a little more casual, but I actually prefer that to something trendy and somewhat stuffy like Carnevor. Everybody here was very friendly. This place is kind of hidden and never gets mentioned in discussions of Milwaukee's top steakhouses; it's definitely under the radar, but the food is definitely just as good as the other top steakhouses in the city. The ambiance might not be what you're used to for a restaurant like this, but if you want a great meal in setting that's a tad more casual, you can't go wrong with The Milwaukee Chophouse. read more

We hadn't heard much about this restaurant, so we went with no expectations. The food turned out to be delicious, and we give the place high marks. My companion's steak was one of the best he's ever had, and I really enjoyed the sea bass. It does get pricey because everything is a la carte. We shared sides: the biggest baked potato I've ever seen, and also a side of green beans with pancetta. We ordered the beans really just to have a veggie, but we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. If there was a drawback, it would be the service, which was not up to the level of the food. Our large group was seated in a room adjacent to the main dining room in this lovely restaurant. We were immediately greeted by Jack, our waiter who pleasantly introduced himself and then went about bringing us drinks. Since there were many drinks to be delivered, the Manager, Michael also helped serve us. It is clear that the team works together to assure the diners have a stellar experience. Having a private room was perfect for us since there were some announcements and recognitions to be made -- preventing any disturbance to diners in the main dining room. The service and food were both exceptional. The food came out at one time and it was all hands on deck to deliver it to our tables so the entire party ate at the same time. I asked for my salmon to be served as raw as the chef felt it could be served. It arrived rare and perfect -- my instructions had clearly been expressed to the chef. The ambiance of this restaurant carries out the beautiful decor of the Hilton where it is housed. A real treat for those of us who appreciate old architectural details. read more

Just wonderful. My girlfriend and I have been making the rounds to the steakhouses around Milwaukee for special occasions (Birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day) for the last few years and we agree that this is our favorite. Places like Mr. B's, Ward's, Devon, Mo's and Five O'Clock are all very good sure, but the ChopHouse takes the cake. The service is impeccable at this restaurant, which is of course what one would expect at a high-end place like this, but it still manages to be a little bit superior to some of their competition. But on to the main course, the steak. It's honestly my favorite among all the aforementioned spots. If you like the outside of your steak to be charred, this is the spot for you. It's perfectly done and the sauces are delicious as well. The sides are very good. Maybe not the best I've had, but close enough that I don't hold it against them. My girlfriend and I got the side trio, which is a very good deal when you're dining with two people, with the lobster mac and cheese (Pretty good, but wasn't blown away), brussels sprouts (Good, not great) and mushrooms (Fantastic). The drinks are reasonably priced and the appetizer we got, the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, was delicious. The free bread wasn't quite as good as other steakhouses we've been to, but that's not at all what we came here for. Not trying to be nitpicky, just trying to include every single aspect of the experience. Lastly, the atmosphere is wonderful. It's obviously a nice, classy place, but it doesn't come across as stingy either. My girlfriend wore jeans and didn't feel out of place at all. The noise level is nice. You don't feel like you're in a library, but you also never feel like you have to raise your voice to have a conversation. Overall, absolutely 5/5. I went to dinner with 3 of my girlfriends and the food was good. I had the prime rib they only have on fridays and saturdays the 14oz is 30.00 and a good sized portion medium well it still was very juicy. I tried my friend crab cakes ( 2 for 15.00) and that was good. I did not like my yukon gold mashed potatoes but since the meat (main thing) was excellent I was okay. They give complimentary bread with blue cheese butter, peppercorn oil, salted butter, and tomato butter. The tomato butter was my favorite I have never had something like that before. read more

I'm normally not a review-writer, but I felt I should review The Chophouse. The atmosphere and decor were fantastic. You could almost see The Rat Pack chilling in a corner booth with martinis. The service was impeccable. Everyone should be so lucky to have a server like we had. He made excellent recommendations that we were very pleased with. Last, but certainly not least, was the food. They earned the right to be rated one of the top Milwaukee steak houses. We happened to be dining that evening with a die-hard New Yorker who proclaimed his New York strip to be one of the best he's had outside his city. In short, we'll be back. read more
