I'm so glad I went to Ming Dynasty! I have been craving dim sum, and always drive by thinking that I need to visit. It's a very hole in the wall setup, nothing over-the-top, and I've found some of my favorite food in places like this. Our servers were very polite and fun to chat with. The dim sum dishes were delicious, especially the shrimp dumplings and the sesame balls. I will be coming back to try more dim sum! At one time, there weren't many restaurants in ABQ that served Dim Sum, and honestly there still aren't. Ming Dynasty has been the place I have always gone to get my Dim Sum fix. Speaking only for the Dim Sum, it can be either hit or miss for freshness. If you go on the weekend they have the traditional carts with fresh Dim Sum. The chicken feet are my favorite here. During the week, you can order Dim Sum but some (not 100% of the time) of it is often clearly reheated in the microwave. That being said, I have still enjoyed it, and honestly if I made it on my own it would probably taste worse. The food is average to above average but what makes this place special is the service you get from the order and servers the minute you step into their restaurant. It is hard to get the service you get here anywhere else in ABQ, and that to me makes up for the possible deficiency with the food. read more

I have had dim sum in Oakland Chinatown and in Taiwan, and this place features ha gao (shrimp dumpling with a thin "shell"), siu mai (pork dumpling also in a thin "shell"), cha siu buns (Chinese pork), chicken feet, and all the other staples of a dim sum place. The quality is not quite as good as aforementioned places, but it is still very good overall and an authentic taste of Taiwan. The menu caters both to people who know Chinese food and the ones who want the Americanized orange chicken and egg rolls. Service is a lot better than what you normally get in Chinatown, China, and Taiwan, plus it's nowhere near as crowded. Being the only dim sum place in New Mexico, they don't even have to be good if they don't want to, but I'm glad they decided to be. read more

They have the only authentic dimsum in town here and literally all of their dimsum tastes very good. Their other dishes were alright but not as great. I got the Pu Pu platter for two which I felt wasn't enough and I had to order for more than one person which I didn't really like. My friend got the orange chicken which she felt didn't taste as good as she had hoped. Their custard dimsum is my favorite dish and we got a few plates of those. The shrimp dimsums were also fresh and delicious. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for an authentic dim sum experience in town. read more

The place was clean & the owners were really nice. We came here on a Sunday after church & other than one other customer, it was pretty empty. My kids favorite items to order in authentic Chinese restaurants are the salt & pepper items on the menu. The little bits of sautéed green onions & garlic was good but the flavor didn't cling to the meats. Plus it was missing the sautéed jalapeños & Szechuan pepper flavors. But it was still good & we enjoyed it as long as you ate the sautéed bits w/ the meat. Just not authentic & as flavorful as it should be. Basically tasted like they used basic salt & pepper. The fried rice was a disappointment. The orange chicken was ok. As for the dimsum, i really hate to say I wasn't a fan. We weren't fond of the chicken feet that many were raving about. But to be fair it was our first time trying it. The shrimp dumpling & shrimp noodle was a little bland & the wrapping were a little thick for my taste. The taro dumpling with minced meat inside was really dry. Its supposed to be slightly crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. This was just crispy. The filling was tasty tho. The crispy shrimp ball was also on the bland & dry side. My husband wasn't impressed so I don't know if I can drag him back. read more

I haven't been to a Chinese restaurant in a very long time and thoughts who know me know I loved Chinese food. I've eaten it so much I've become fatigued by it. That changed today. I've eaten at Ming Dynasty a couple of times in the past and the first dish I tried was the Orange Chicken. It was and is fantastic. So good in fact, that's the only thing I eat when I've gone there. I actually wanted to eat here for about a week, so today was the day I would forgo my Chinese food hiatus. I've never eaten Orange Chicken quite like the the ones at Ming Dynasty. I've eaten my fair share of Orange Chicken from various restaurants and Ming Dynasty has the best. Their orange chicken has that home cooked taste and I can't speak enough on how the best foods I've ever eaten are the closes to homemade. The look and presentation is homemade, the favor actually has hints of orange and you can tell the chicken was cooked with orange peels. Fantastic. At other places, you know your eating "orange chicken" by the little place card in front of it at a buffet or something. Ming Dynasty ACTUALLY taste like it has orange flavoring. If your a orange chicken fan do yourself a favor and give Ming Dynasty a try, it will be worth it. read more

This has become one of my favorite weekend stops. So much so that the staff no who we are and what we like. They just start putting the regular items we like on the table without us even ordering. There's no one else in the ABQ area who makes dim sum, at least not this way. The choice dumplings, sui mai, pork ginger dumplings are all excellent. The baked BBQ pork buns are a consistent favorite as well. If you're looking for something other than dim sum the Yang Chow fried rice was very good. read more

Wow! We came upon Ming Dynasty after coming back from Seattle and craving the dim sum we had discovered on the West Coast. Ming Dynasty did not disappoint! We came towards the end of the Dim Sum serving period (11am-2/2:30pm) and we were greeted by the kindest staff! The servers with the carts were wonderful and explained everything they had (which did NOT happen on the West Coast) and it was fresh, piping hot, and delicious! We enjoyed BBQ pork buns, pork shu mai, steamed shrimp fun gor, taro root dumplings, sausage buns, chicken buns, and sweet sesame balls! We didn't get to try nearly a third of everything but everything we did try was excellent. We also had some egg drop soup and they were so gracious in bringing a side of sweet and sour sauce for us. Their dim sum deserves 4 stars in a city where I have not yet seen a competitor for dim sum. The two stars are for the appetizer platter and entree. Not wanting to cook a Christmas Day dinner the kids and I came here. We ordered the pu pu platter, dim sum, beef with black pepper, and kung pao chicken. The pu pu platter was a severe disappointment. The chicken wings and ribs had that distinct re-heated in the microwave flavor. The skewered meat tasted like it was days old. The egg rolls were very starchy in flavor, I should not feel the need to use as much soy sauce as I did. The beef with black pepper and the kung pao chicken were respectively too salty and bland. I've been to San Francisco and had the best Chinese meal of my life. Ming Dynasty was pretty damn close. I went crazy and started ordering all kinds of things, fried, steamed and pan fried. They were all delicious. I added some chili oil to several of them. I want to go back and try more. I saw some of the Asian diners get some sort of vegetable. I wanted it but didn't know how to order it. I didn't see it come on the cart. The ladies with the carts are kinda like bumper cars. They don't necessarily go in a strict order. They will stop at one table and then shoot across the room, then bounce back to another spot. Since the restaurant is enormous, it can take a while for them to get to you. I learned to just grab them as they ran by. My mother ordered a noodle soup that was super flavorful. I understand why she will go and order it. She does not eat in places by herself, but she will come here and eat that soup alone. The owner stopped by and thanked us for coming in. He recognized my mother and went out of his way to say hello. Great place to eat Chinese food! I called in my order the lady was very nice and helpful with my questions. After i finished my order she said it would be 20 mins and it was ready when I got there. The fact that passable dim sum exists in Albukerque is a miracle to me. It's not the best and doesn't compete with good west coast dim sum or other large cities that have competitive dim sum scenes but this is A-OK. The standards like Har gow and pork shumai are fine, even good. The rolled bean curd is pretty darn good too. Nothing was exceptional, but what the heck. OTOH, I was amazed that the egg plant was deep fat fried and the black bean sauce was more like gravy than what I'm used to. The crunchy shrimp roll was so well breaded that it was a chore finding the shrimp. However, the service was very professional and the vibe pleasant. Over all, if I learned through repeated visits where their strengths lie, I could come back and enjoy the "only authentic dim sum" (their claim) in New Mexico. I'm sure it's there I just ordered a few oddities. Confession - I am very critical and particular about dim sum. I have eaten it in probably 20 states. I usually eat dim sum at Chinatown or Alhambra and I personally think it's best there (large Asian population) I heard this restaurant is the ONLY dim sum place around town? Correct me if I'm wrong. This place is okay, not spectacular by any means but also not too bad. The employees are nice and attentive and the food comes out quick. Most of the dim sum didn't have a taste to it and the covering on the dumplings was thick especially for the har gao. The chilli oil was a bit strange, it looked like it was boiled instead of pan fried and also had no discernable taste. Pros: Service is excellent. 2.5 stars is what I would give. Cons: The dimsum itself. Here's the breakdown: Xialongbao - Too dry Shrimp Cheongfan - Skin was way too thick and pockmarked, and the sauce that it came with tasted weird!! How do you get a basic soy sauce mixture wrong? Siumai - Tough and chewy Hargow - Passable Sticky rice - Best dish of the meal we had Custard egg bun - Skin was super cracked and peeling?? Should be taut and smooth instead. Custard inside was passable Charsiu Bun - Don't bother. Charsiu tasted awful. In fact, it didn't taste like charsiu at all. And their shrimp in the shrimp dishes didn't taste fresh. Their saving grace was when we gave feedback to our server, and he took off our bill the dishes we disliked the most. The meal was cheap, even without those removed dishes. Not sure why this place is rated 3.5 when it's clearly a 5. Food was spectacular. Had hot jasnine tea, egg rolls, hot sour soup and sweet and sour chicken, all excellent. The waiter (I think he was the owner) was a perfect gentleman, very courteous and polite. Even got hot towels at the end of lunch to clean up with. BONUS! Will be back for sure read more

Certainly not the best DimSum in the world but much better than anything I could have expected since moving to ABQ. Staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a second pot of steamed SuiMai because the first was cold in the middle. The second, we noticed, was steaming on the cart and was much better so I guess you've just got to be patient for the right carts to pass by. We ordered 5 plates and tea. Everything but the first order of SuiMai was good. And with tip was only $24. Very not bad. Very not bad at all. We will certainly make celebrating Chinese New Year's here, a tradition, from now on. Little did we know there would be a massive celebration with dancers dressed a dragon dogs performing acrobatics along the narrow aisles. It went on for 30 minutes and was an impressive show! After living in China for an extended period of time, I can say this place is definitely very authentic to what you would find in China.The prices here are very reasonable and the service is good. The Dim Sum is absolutely worth trying. After you finish a meal, they give you a hot towel to wash your hands. I don't know of any other place in town that does this. I am always down for some dim sum. I come here a lot. My only complaint here (I hate to be negative) was the older waitresses don't seem friendly. When they lean towards the table to grab or place things, they don't say anything, they just kind of get in your space or even lean on you. Customer service was AMAZING! We arrived on a Sunday evening about 25 minutes before closing. We had just been turned away from another restaurant because we were a part of six and they were also close to closing. The staff at among Dynasty didn't hesitate to seat us. They were friendly and answered all menu questions. My 10 year old son was looking for a particular dish that was not on the menu. They chef came to the table to get a description and knew what he was asking for and went back and made it for him! Six of us ate, including three alcoholic beverages, for $77. I never thought I'd find good dimsum In Albuquerque, but let me tell you I was highly impressed with the food! They have plenty of tables and seating available so we were seated immediately. They do traditional dimsum where they come around with carts filled with food and you pick what you want off the cart. We ordered tons of food for 3 people and the tab was only $40, so it's extremely reasonably priced. The pork buns were amazing, along with the shumai and much more. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the service, we were told they had some servers quit which left them short staffed. They tried there best to accommodate but there were just too many people to keep up with all the tables but i don't hold that against them. I would HIGHLY recommend this place and I will be a returning! read more

The food was below average, we ate here years ago, & it was good. Since, I had invited my family to join me for lunch 10ppl. First impression usually rings true for most things. The glass front door was filthy with finger prints & grime. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the 90's. Don't even get me started on the barf we had to see dried & splattered on the pavement outside the front door. Everyone kept saying " It's good to try different places" We didn't order a lot of food, nor did we finish it . We all had small tastes. A lot was left over . We didn't want to take it home, but the server gave us some to go boxes. My daughter, not wanting to be rude so she took the leftovers and tossed them in a trash bag in her car. I have seen this place every day for 6 years and never stopped in till today. The kung pow chicken was good. We didn't get the fried rice we asked for but it was still good. The potstickers were very good!! I was craving some last week and went to another spot that was not as good as this place. I'll be honest, I didn't expect Albuquerque to have Dim Sum at all when I moved here. Given that, I was not only surprised that Ming Dynasty had Dim Sum, but that it had a selection and quality that was comparable to what I am used to in California. Now, the Dim Sum here doesn't rival the quality of some of the best Dim Sum houses you can find in the San Gabriel Valley or the Chinatowns in Oakland or San Francisco, but it's good (and comparable to Dim Sum you can find in suburban DC and Baltimore). The Sui Mai, Har Gow, and Cheung Fun were good. The spare ribs and tripe were alright. The custard tarts were probably the worse things I ate there, but even those weren't bad. I also ate off their menu at a later date and their wonton noodle soup was decent. It definitely had a lot of fried onions (so I suspect that the owners or chef are people from the Guangdong area, but spent a number of years in Vietnam before immigrating to the US) and the wontons lacked the finesse of the wonton shops in San Francisco or New York, but they were good enough to remind me of home. This place would only have 3 stars in Southern California, but it's probably the best place for some authentic Chinese food in Albuquerque. read more

It's probably unfair for me to write this, since this is Albuquerque after all. Who would be looking for dim sum out there? Sure, Ming Dynasty serves its purpose in providing some diversity to New Mexico, but I can't honestly say it's good. Ha Gow (Shrimp Dumplings) - This is the staple. If a dim sum place can't make good ha gow, it's like a steakhouse that can't make good steak. Skins were actually pretty decent. They weren't too thick and had a smooth, chewy consistency, although some broke when I tried to pick them up. The shrimp stuffing was not so good. There was no binder, seasoning, or young bamboo. It was just two separate pieces of stale, fishy tasting shrimp. Siu Mai - Typically, siu mai is a harmonious blend of ground pork, sweet shrimp, and earthy, umami packed shiitake. These were hard, bland pork golf balls. Steamed Tripe - Probably the best thing I tried. It was missing green onions and white pepper, but at least there's a good amount of ginger to give it a kick of flavor. I guess it's pretty obvious that the quality of dim sum here wouldn't have been great, but you gotta try it to really know, right? read more

So I have really been hesitating in reviewing this place due to the fact, it has been the only authentic like full service dim sum restaurant in all of Albuquerque. The one downtown just doesn't count. I was about 13/14 when this place opened and it was AMAZING when it first opened. Then it switched owners and the quality of the food went down. Note, this is where my family used to go a lot for family gatherings. Now as an adult, I can say that their food have far improved and their dim sum selection has far improved. Their service is always good but I honestly think the food can be a tad better. I know this is New Mexico and I can't expect too much, but I have high hopes for this restaurant. For Chinese New Years, they hired a Lion Dance crew and that made the lunch experience just that much better. I think I will continue to come back, but in hopes that the food quality will be better. Because their service certainly has and the food selection also has improved over the years. The biggest gip ever. We gave our leftovers to a homeless person and as we drove away, we looked back at him and he was throwing the box away. Our bill was $37 for 6 items. Three of them were completely disgusting and we were unable to finish them and they weren't exotic items either. Shrimp, pork, and the like, the pork was a little pink. Looked undercooked. I was okay though. I honestly think they robbed us by charging whatever they wanted for our items. Our ticket had three chinese characters and a price that said $18 and then two chinese characters and a price that said $8 and then one more character that said $6. A total waste of money!! read more
