We tried plenty of dishes- escargot and frog legs were great; the butter and garlic that they cook the escargot in was awesome... it's butter and garlic after all. Frog legs were tender and the sauce they were served is was very good. The goat cheese/pear salad was fresh, and the french onion soup was also awesome- Not too salty at all. For entrees, we got the lamb shank and the lobster crepes. Both we delicious. The lamb was melt in your moth tender, quite literally falling off the bone. The lobster crepes were light yet rich and flavorful. To top off the meal, we got the chocolate soufflé which was heavenly. It wasn't overly sweet which is great since it was served with some vanilla ice cream, and chocolate/vanilla sauces. A great way to end the meal. We will definitely be coming back here again and highly recommend checking this place out!

The wait for the crepes was a bit long but I know with a longer wait usually means fresher food and better quality, so I didn't mind. When my crepe came out, I was sad to see how flat it was. Where were the strawberries? When the waitress returned to bring us utensils, I inquired, knowing I had indeed ordered them and had even been charged $2.50 for them! She told me that she would bring some, as they weren't able to cook it with strawberries in it. This felt odd to me, since I have definitely ordered crepes before with strawberries already in them! She brought out a tiny metal cup with some chopped strawberries. It honestly felt weird just putting them on top when I had expected them to just be part of the crepe. The coldness of the strawberries kind of ruined the crepe experience for me, although it was still a delicious crepe with a luscious chocolate spread. I was also disappointed that the menu had said topped with whipped cream which it wasn't. I'm not sure if they just don't have a vegan whipped cream, but it's odd to put that on their menu that's both on the door and inside if they don't carry it. It would have been even more amazing if they did have that! The outdoor seating was nice and shaded and despite the heat, it was cooler. Parking wasn't too hard to find on the side streets and they also have meters in front.

Okay, we would have chosen differently had we known that, but alright. Maybe I'm delusional, but between the cheese mixup and the wine spillage (and staining my white shirt), I kind of half expected a little something from them. Like comping one of the four glasses of wine, or maybe an extra little top off or something to say "hey sorry we're a mess today." I would never ASK for it, because as it was I felt bad for the girl who was new, so we just paid (and tipped of course) and left. Overall, its just nothing to write home about...

The Little Door is known for their gorgeous outdoor seating under twinkly lights but be aware you cannot garuntee a spot there - only request. We had reservations on a Sunday night and they were fairly busy around 7pm. We were taken to the back seating area which is indoor. I appreciate that they have the option of a personalized dinner menu which is what my partner got for me, and they even bring you a large envelope so you can take the menu home. It took us some time to be greeted by our waitress. I felt the service was lacking. She was nice, but I felt like we were often forgotten. For our drinks I had a cucumber gin martini and my partner had the Casanova. Both were delicious! For our appetizer, we ordered the Piri-Piri shrimp. It was 4 pieces of shrimp lined up with small circles of flatbread in between each piece, seated on top of a smoky and flavorful sauce. We both loved it! For our main meal we ordered the couscous "Royale," fresh Papardelle pasta, and roasted carrots. The couscous came with one lamp chop, stewed lamb, merguez, and chicken - with a side of sliced almonds and dried apricot for topping, extra lamb stew sauce, and the most incredible harissa. I absolutely loved this dish, it was so flavorful. The pasta was a solid dish as well, and the roasted carrots were also fantastic. For dessert, we ordered the lava cake and I had Moroccan mint tea. The lava cake was well balanced with flavor and not overly sweet. The tea was fragrant, sweet, and the best way to end the meal. Overall I had a nice first experience at The Little Door. I don't think there's much left on the menu that I would want to try. I would love if they added more Moroccan-inspired dishes to the menu to make them stand out! But I feel like I would still come back, and I recommend it as a place for date night or to celebrate a birthday.

From the moment I walked into Mistral in Los Angeles, I knew I was in for something special. The restaurant's modern yet cozy ambiance immediately set the stage for what would be a memorable meal. The sleek design, combined with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, made it feel like the perfect place for both a casual dinner or a special celebration. We kicked things off with the Tuna Tartare and the Roasted Bone Marrow. The tuna was pristine--beautifully fresh and light, complemented by an avocado mousse and a refreshing yuzu dressing. The flavors balanced each other perfectly, making each bite feel like a mini celebration of the sea. The bone marrow was equally impressive. Rich and savory, it came with crispy crostini and a refreshing parsley salad, which cut through the richness of the marrow, making for a wonderfully balanced dish. Both appetizers set the tone for the rest of the evening--refined, flavorful, and creatively executed. For my main course, I went with the Pan-Seared Scallops--and I'm so glad I did. These scallops were cooked to perfection: golden on the outside and tender on the inside. The accompanying cauliflower puree was smooth and creamy, with a touch of sweetness that paired beautifully with the natural flavor of the scallops. As an OG friend and customer of Mistral and Henri (OG owner), I am heartbroken to see what the new owners have done to this once solid and successful restaurant. The positive: Dana (bartender extraordinaire), Luis, Alex, and the few familiar faces who were articulately trained by Henri & Raul. The rest: The wine list has declined in quality as has the food which is shocking! I ordered my most favorite lamb chops which used to come with 4 or 5 chops and have consistently been the best in the city. Sadly, I can honestly say my meal last night was one of the worst! The entire dish has been changed and NOT for the better. I was presented with 3 tiny chops that had one bite of meat per bone and a plate of tomato mush. To make the dish even worse, it was far from hot as if the plate sat around waiting for us to finish our first course. The chicken used to come with the most delicious mashed potato's which have been replaced with undercooked butternut squash sticks. No flavor and just ick! To top the evening off, we paid with a very generous gift certificate. It took almost 30 minutes to complete this transaction. Management hasn't trained the staff on their process in handling gift cards yet clearly knew how to sell a very large amount of a gift card! Note to owner(s): PLEASE understand who the Mistral customer is. We have become accustomed to a certain level of "polish" and refinement along with CONSISTENT and favored dishes. Why change what wasn't broken? Your chef has bastardized the Mistral classics! Want to add your chefs touch? Add different items to the menu but please bring the classics back! Additionally, we come to Mistral for a finer dining experience which includes proper pacing. Last nights experience was far from this. We sat unattended for way too long before our order was taken and then our entree's were brought instantly after our appetizer plates were cleared as if we were being rushed. Then 30 minutes to close out the check. NOT OKAY and embarrassing for the server. The ONLY positive part of our evening at Mistral last night was seeing and being so warmly welcomed by the original Mistral employees. What a fantastic group of hospitality professionals. read more

Even though my husband and I only visit, and don't live in, Sherman Oaks, this is one of the restaurants that we would say was good, but perhaps a bit overpriced for what it is. We made a reservation a few days in advance, and went to eat here on a Thursday, hoping that it wouldn't be too crowded. We were seated upon arriving, and the waiter was very friendly and hospitable. We had a nice bottle of dry white wine, and our appetizers were on our table less that 7 minutes after ordering it. My husband ordered fillet Mignon, which they are known for I believe, and they asked very specific instructions on how he wanted it cooked, as well as how I wanted my new york. They brought the food within a reasonable amount of time, and kept returning to our table to see what we needed. The service is truly outstanding, but while the food was good, I can't say it was great. That, in addition to the prices, are what made me give 3 stars. There is nothing bad about this place, and they strive to make a very good impression. I just don't believe it is reasonably priced for what you get, which is essentially a few steak options, and not many else. read more

If you are looking for a classy, welcoming, and absolutely stunning dining experience, Mistral is the place to go! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and an ambiance that was both elegant and inviting. The food was nothing short of incredible. We started with the escargot, which was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, and the beef tartare, which was equally delightful. The beet salad was another standout - fresh, vibrant, and simply fantastic. For our mains, I had the John Dory, and let me tell you, it was so delicious I practically licked the plate clean! My husband had the duck confit, and it was a perfect balance of sweet and savory - tender, rich, and absolutely divine. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. Have been a fan of their food for (eek) almost 20 years. I miss their lobster ravioli, But I have NEVER had a bad meal here. The waiters are fantastic, attentive, charming and informative. The wine selection good, but the bartender pours a real nice drink. A tad pricey, but Sherman Oaks is pretty high anyway. Raoul, the maitre' de, is FABULOUS! He's funny and witty. Only problem is noise. All wood makes it very LOUD, so if you want intimate, arrive early. After 7pm they get busy and loud. But for the food & service they offer, it's worth the annoyance. I recommend Mistral's without reservation (a little restaurant humor). The complaint someone posted about no vegetarian dishes is way off. MOST of the salads are FAB and Veg. Warmed Beet & walnut is especially good. French Onion soup is out of this world an you can always have a chocolate souffle. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM read more

I went to this restaurant with my family and I must say that the hostess was amazing. Now that said, I did not enjoy seeing a man wholooked homeless and a hippie. I found out that he is the new owner and his name is jonah. Well Jonah, you definitely need to take care of that greasy long hair, and actually look like an owner/manager!!!!! I was appalled learning that. That just made our visit so bad!!!! The food was nothing exceptional. But it would have been more enjoyable had I not seen the new owner looking so disheveled and just plain scary looking!!!!! Would i eat there again??? Absolutely not. The server's were rather slow and a bit arrogant. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Unfortunately I feel this place has gone down the tubes real fast. read more

This is a mixed review in all fairness. Firstly, the restaurant itself is small but the ambiance and setting was excellent. They also have a small bar area in the back that would occupy about 8-10 people. The food was good but nothing out of this world. The staff were attentive and they knew French wines, but I felt like they were rushing us through dinner. I don't mind eating fast but it has to be on my terms, especially if one in throwing down a buck and a half. That alone didn't sit well with me and is a deal breaker. Would I be back? My wife and I have been fans of the lovely, charming Mistral for 30 years, but our last meal there will be our last meal there. Risotto that was uncooked, hard and chalky. A kale salad with zero kale in it (they substituted other greens instead). A $48 dollar bottle of wine that was way over-priced for the quality. An overcharge on our bill, and a maitre d (manager/owner?) who berates his waiters within earshot of patrons. Sadly unprofessional. I felt ripped off for the amount of money I spent. We came here during Dine LA. We were seated at the back patio, which had heaters and was done very nice. I was actually going to cancel because the dine LA menu didn't quite do it, but looked at their regular menu and it sounded wonderful. Funny enough we ended up each getting the dine LA and it was fabulous. The short ribs were so tender and flavorful. The fish was flaky and prepared excellent. The service impeccable. Really love this place. Food is amazing, the staff is helpful, attentive and considerate. Highly recommended. My husband and I recently attended a private party for my nephew's graduation and the place looked spectacular and was the perfect venue for a crowd of 60 or so people. The souffle and mini-popovers are by far, my favorite. I find myself craving them on a regular basis and that's probably why I end up at Mistral so often. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. I believe the owner was outside greeting guests as they arrived and made a point to thank and acknowledge everyone as they left. Delightful! Some…read morecolleagues and I decided to give this place a shot since we work in the area and it had a Dine LA special going on. I could tell from the moment that we were led into the dining room and saw the big grill in the back that this was going to be a fun evening! Before we even ordered, we were offered a cup of vegetable broth as a starter. The broth was excellent, and appreciated despite it being a hot and humid day. I suspect that the composition varies based on the kitchen scraps, but we all agreed that it was great. After the broth, the waiter stopped by to walk us through his recommendations and some background about the restaurant. Even though we were doing Dine LA, he was able to give us some suggestions on pairings, and I apprecaited how he walked us through each item as it was brought to the table. For the first course, we tried both the torta frita with cashew butter, and the chipas with tomato butter. I was impressed with how everythign was thorugh out - the dishes, the butter knives carved out of single pieces of wood. The flowers that popped on the otherwise plain cashew butter, the (if memory serves) toasted buckwheat seeds on the tomato butter. You eat with your eyes first, and mine were feasting while they were laying everything out! The cashew butter was slightly sweet with the honey, and it paired well with the crispy torta. Spreading the butter was a bit awkward, but we made it work. The toamto butter was likewise great. With both breads and butters, what I loved most was actually the combinations of textures. There was thought given to how the ingredients paired together. The crispy torta, for exmaple, was paired with the smooth cashew butter, while the soft chipa was paired with the "crunchy" tomato butter. The second course was likewise impressive. We mixed and matched a number of different appetizers. I can't speak for the empanada (it was devoured before I could try it!), but the hamachi crudo was fresh, tasty, and delicate, and it was fun to watch them pour the sauce on tableside. What was most impressive, however, was the burnt avocado salad, which has the most unique preparation thad I had ever seen. What looks like an unpeeled avocado is actually a peeled avocado that has been charred so that the blackened surface resembles an avocado skin! The char on the fatty avocado paired well with the bitter salad greens and the vinagraite. The crispy onions and candied lemon bits sprinkeld through out were barely visible yet added delightful little flavor bombs and some texture. For the third course, each of the entrees was excellent. Two of us ordered steaks, and I noticed that they didn't ask us for our desired doneness. While some might be squeamish, I appreciated they made the call to serve the meat how they thought was best. Their choice delivered. The steaks were great, tender and well seasoned, and with no strong herbs or spices to hide behind. That said, I tried a bite of the short rib, and I think that was even better! Someone else ordered the pork and paired it with the peppers per the waiters suggestion, and that combiantion was delightful. At the end of the meal, we decided to get deserts, which weren't included with the Dine LA. We ordered a "Ode to DDL" which was basically like a dulce de leche version of molten chocolate cake. Our second desert was a chocolate & Sabayon. I didn't read the menu description carefully enough and didn't realize that the foam... icing? topping? would have a liquor added to it. On its own it was a bit much, but together with the chocolate and the caramel it worked well together. Speaking of which, I attached a photo, but the desert came with a massive piece of caramel crisp that was a lot of fun to break with a spoon! Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The food was great, the staff was fun, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the whole restaurant was thoughtfully put together. It was a little pricey, but I think the experience was worth it. We're already planning our next trip back!
