Our usual sushi restaurant is closed on Monday so we thought we'd give Miyabi a try. The three of us were disappointed. There were some high points. The miso soup was very good, the pickled ginger was crisp and refreshing, and the Ikura was fresh. However,the unagi sushi was cold, the shrimp tempura roll was cold, the vegetables in the veggie roll were soggy, and the salmon and hamachi sushi about 2/3 the expected size. And, the wasabi had a strange acrid taste. The service was prompt, but not gracious. When I expressed surprise that the tempura roll was cold, the waitress was simply indifferent. Some reviewers call this a NYC-style sushi restaurant. No. There's a big difference between paying a lot and eating well and paying a lot and eating poorly. We will not be back. read more

Wait staff are prompt, courteous. 3 key issues to be aware of: 1) way too much oil and grease- we ordered a side dish of garlic stir fry veggies - it arrived swimming in oily sauce. The veggies were broccoli, bell pepper, way too much red onion, and again heavy oily sauce 2) lemongrass coconut soup - arrives with tons of red onion - dominates the soup flavors and is excessive - it seems like red onions are the only item the chefs know to use on each dish 3) shrimp with veggies - everything was drowning in greasy sauce - we literally drained each item, to allow the greasy oil sauce to drip off. This place has been my local sushi spot since they opened. Menu highlights definitely include the Tokyo Roll, Blue Crab Roll, Lobster King Roll & Passion Roll. They also have classics like the Philadelphia Roll, California Roll etc which I would highly recommend. The decor screams upscale nightclub, but the service is definitely not upscale, you can tell the servers aren't thrilled with working there. The staff is extremely rude and the food is mediocre. Don't patronize this place. We stopped in for dinner last Wednesday after catching a 7pm movie at Jacob Burns around the corner. We arrived at 9:20 and the sign said they were open until 10. We ordered quickly and then all the food (soup, appetizer and entree) came out at once. When I asked why they said the kitchen closes at 9:30. And then for the rest of our meal they hovered over us trying to get us to leave. They even brought the check by 9:45 when I wasn't even half way done. And when I didn't sign the receipt right away, the waiter stayed at our table and waited. This is no way to treat a customer. They should change the sign indicating their hours and learn some courtesy. We will not be back. Too bad for them because the Jacob Burns is a jewel. read more

I took my cousin out Sunday afternoon to Miyabi and at first was very surprised by look of the restaurant. Received a very cold greeting and welcome! We were given our menus and we were trying to decide. My cousin ordered sesame noodles and General Tso's chicken, I ordered mini spring rolls and crispy shrimp. Upon receiving our appetizers, we began to try the food, the mini spring were over cooked and tasteless! The sesame noodles were just not sesame noodles, they brought out this plate of green flat, tasteless noodles with wilted greens! Two bites and that was it! Dinner arrived , the General Tso's chicken, truly disgusting ! Two bites and that was it for my cousin and my shrimp were cooked well although tasteless and they came with the same green noodles! They also brought us brown rice that also was terrible! We asked for a doggy bag, my cousin called a couple hours after and expressed that her dog didn't even eat it! In the garbage everything went! Well, last time I ever go to this restaurant! Also FYI, one I've the chefs, cooks was eating at a booth near us, after his meal he decided to take a nap and laid down and took a snooze! To be fair I have to give them two stars. I've eaten here many times, the sushi isn't blow your mind great. It's good enough, especially when there is no local competition(Yama Fuji in Briarcliff is better quality sushi but it's a few miles away) To be honest I can be critical of service. In my business entry level jobs are scarce, pay is low and raises take many years to approach comfortable. So being a spendthrift I worked in bars and restaurants well into my thirties, I worked in clubs in NYC, Southampton and Miami, and I was really good at dealing with drunk idiots. I could take a slobbering ass grabbing frat boy get him escorted out by security and have him think I was his best friend. Next night he would be back again throwing around the black card. So I know all about service. So my wife and I are meeting friends for dinner with our son. He is a toddler, 19 months. Anyone with kids knows sushi restaurants are a mecca for toddlers. toddlers love mac and cheese, chicken tenders, and yeah raw tuna. So a few months back we experimented with a few dishes for us and ordered my son a dish telling them he is allergic to peanuts. They bring....tada a dish with nuts. No good. So we speak to the manager and get they agree we can bring a small container from the outside when we come in. Problem solved. Tonight we walk in see the usual waitstaff sit down, ask for a knife and fork to cut up my little guys food in a small container. The server we ask says "no you can't open the container in the restaurant, its disrespectful to the restaurant". I tell him the food is for the baby he says" you can go outside the restaurant and eat the food" Nice, weather outside is frightful, storm blew in today wind is blowing rain sideways and this very kind server offers to let my just barely not a baby son go outside in the driving rain and eat his little bits of cheese. I ask for the manager. No manager is available he tells me. So I tell him if my son can't eat we have to leave, us and the couple we are having dinner with. That is great for him now he seems happy. So we gather our belongings and get ready to exit, only now our waitress who has served us before steps in. She says we stay, unfortunately the young man disagrees. I tell them we will not stay unless he apologizes. For what he asks? I explain to him that when I- a guest sits at a table I expect to be treated as a guest and not made uncomfortable. His lecturing me on how I disrespected the restaurant is rude. He disagrees and refuses to apologize. This has now become a spectacle near the hostess stand, the couple we are meeting has arrived, the waitress again tells him that we will stay, the young gentleman then offers to step outside with me. Unknown to this______(you fill in the blank, there are too many choices) while I admire the courage he mustered to challenge a man out with his wife and young child, my life isn't nearly as miserable as his. While we were having a huddle outside to figure out our new dinner plans two more employees came out and apologized and we asked why no manager? Not sure they say should be somewhere. Good luck running a restaurant where servers argue with each other over asking diners to leave. And as for disrespectful it's easy to see that young man is not experienced enough at life to know toddlers don't usually eat sushi and he is not experienced enough in service to know not to lecture dinner guests. I noticed looking at the hidden reviews that another poster had a really bad experience with a young child and I can tell you this when my son acts up he gets taken to the car for time out. Had an excellent dinner at Miyabi last weekend. We came as a group of 5 and were seated in one of their pod areas, if you will. It felt expansive but cozy, which was really nice. We shared appetizers like edamame, chicken lettuce wraps, and ribs. Each was delicious (the ribs came as little pieces with a side of incredibly sweet sweet potato). Our individual meals all got rave reviews. I split four rolls of sushi with another person and thought each one was large, fresh, and well done. There were also creative rolls, like avocado and peanut. Many bites left me mming. The service was prompt and fun, and when we stayed a long time to just sit and chat no one bothered us. I got the eel avocado, salmon avocado, tuna avocado and a volcano roll. ($32 for everything). Great fish to rice ratio - just wish they used a bit more vinegar in their rice/prepared the rice differently... That would be my chief complaint. The volcano roll is amazing. Arrived around 8pm. There is street parking and no lot. Upon arriving the decor was lovely and modern. The hostess was very standard; neither friendly or rude & we were seated. The menu was awesome!& the food arrived promptly!There are soooooooo many choices sushi/sashimi-wise as well as meal options. The crab cakes were stellar and the rolls were fresh & unique! I recommend the Sakura roll because it was extremely filling and decadent for those that want a hint of sweetness. It had a tropical feel actually. The scallop dish was incredible and has some of the largest scallops I've ever seen. Overall, the restaurant had excellent food, great ambience and I will be returning. The only reason I rated them with 4 stars is because although the service was courteous employees could be a little more friendly. Don't understand what happened tonight. We have been eating here 5 years and the food has always been ok to very good. The restaurant has been good enough for one of our standard defaults for where to go. Today the Chilean Sea Bass was served to us partially raw and so badly prepared I was sure the fish has gone bad. We sent it back to the kitchen and order another dish. The restaurant decided to charge us for the Sea Bass because it was the more expensive of the 2 dishes. This is odd behavior I never experienced before. Patrons don't send back a dish because they changed their mind, but because it was so terrible it is uneatable or the food is bad. I hope this is a one off experience, but the behavior was so odd I needed to share it. read more

The service was better this time and as always, the decor is impressive. I got the Thai curry soup, which was absolutely divine. It's one of the best soups I've ever had. My only gripe would be that it was loaded with red onions, which I'm not a fan of. I also got the Gyoza, pan fried pork dumplings. The skin was crispy, but there was an excess of oil on the plate. The sauce it was paired with had the perfect salt content. However, the filling wasn't exactly pleasing. It didn't really taste like pork, which concerned me a bit. Dropped in for lunch before an early movie at Jacob Burns which is just around the corner. Great location across from the train station. They have interesting lunch specials for all different preferences. Was the perfect meal before movie. Flavorful, interesting and affordable. Came back for Girls Night Out and enjoyed a great dinner. Various rolls and sushi, bento box and salmon teriyaki were ordered. Each meal was enjoyed from soup and salad to entrée The curry soup was specially enjoyed. Enjoyed our window seat. Given the good reviews I had some hope for something better than the standard westchester attempt at pan-asian cuisine. Sadly, Miyabi delivered exactly as many of its contemporaries do - providing a very average dumbed down version of several asian cultural dishes. By trying to cover Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Malaysian the result is that none of them are done well and we have another suburban disappointment. The basil beef lacked any flavor, and included several vegetables that simply don't belong in a Thai dish - zucchini?...really? The sushi was OK, but nothing spectacular, and one of my companions had to send back a dirty plate. The service was fine, and the highlight was the Rock tempura shrimp appetizer with it 'spicy mild sauce', though it didn't really reflect any of the asian cultures in play. It reminded me of the kind of dish you would find at a Bonefish Grill. Ambiance was stylish as well, but ultimately it comes down to the food and if you're looking for something different or authentic, you will be disappointed. read more

We felt like we were being rushed to order, but had to flag our server down multiple times for water refills etc (if she checked in even once we wouldn't have had to do that). Our sushi was delivered but we didn't have any soy sauce on the table (jar was empty) so had to wait for that. Also, when the food arrived, instead of clearing our appetizer plates first, the waitress just handed me the plate of sushi, so that I could figure out where to put it. The food is good. However, my favorite roll is the Tokyo roll. I went in today at lunchtime today to order it to go. The menu states that it is crabmeat, shrimp, and crunch. Before looking at the menu, I inquired to confirm that it contained shrimp. He said no - crabmeat only. Then I showed him the menu. He spoke to the sushi chefs. Then he told me - "sometimes it does. First time I was able to catch the lunch special, which was great. Your choice of 3 sushi rolls with soup & salad included. I ordered the Tokyo rolls, Shrimp tempura & Tiffany rolls (tiffany rolls are California rolls deep fried, tasted great!) typically quiet & soothing. Really want to LOVE this place. Have been there 3 times. First with girlfriends on a cold winter night. The warm clear soup was just the thing. We had sushi and tea and practically had the place to ourselves. Great service that night. Second time we came back my husband and I got a few specialty rolls, both tasty. Great service.. Final experience, the food seemed a little more blah (could have been we tried one 1 new roll) and the service was very slow. Kind of warm white wine. This is a gem in a town full of rocks. The atmosphere is upscale, and everything; down to the dishes are nice. Most of the staff is very hospitable. I ordered the spicy tuna roll with a side of fried rice. The roll was very good, and unlike any other I've had, as it was crunchy on the inside. I'm seriously craving it right now as I'm writing about it. The fried rice was superb, but nothing special. My brother ordered the Udon with no meat or veggies. I never eat Udon, but I was grubbing out on his. It was so good. He claims it's the best he's ever had. I was VERY impressed with the dessert menu, and would probably come here just for the dessert. You can tell they have a chef that specializes in that area, as most of the things on the dessert menu require a lot of detail. There was at least 20 options. We ended up with the crème brûlée, which honestly wasn't that good, but why did I order a French dessert at a Japanese restaurant? I want to try something that will do their menu justice.
