Came here Christmas night looking to get a quick sweet tooth fix. The donuts were tasty but the service was even better. Sadly we were distracted by an incident with a disgruntled SFPD officer and did not notice the employee had given us about a dozen complementary donut holes. The woman that works the register is the russian version of the small, paranormalist, squeaky-voiced woman from poltergeist. The tru measure of any donut house is how much pride they take in their plain glazed. It is tasty here...but believe it or not sometimes kinda stale..crazy huh?! If you want a straightforward, pink-box-type donut, this is the place to go if you're in the area. I like this place as much as Bob's on Polk to be honest, but huge plus for this spot being open at least until midnight. I was drinking with some buddies across the street at Nag's Head, and ended up here because I was hungry. I wound up buying more donuts than I had planned for, and brought them back to the bar, which the bartenders were totally cool with. Moments later, we all walked back to the donut shop before it closed and they sold us some more even though they were in the middle of closing. Bonus points for these people. An absolutely no frills, straight up mouth watering local donut place. Everyone is coming up with all these fancy donuts with dinglehoppers and sprinkles hanging/draped everywhere. So folks if you looking for a blueberry bourbon infused donut, go somewhere else. If you appreciate the simplicity in mastering fewer ingredients to produce the absolute best, then GO TO THIS PLACE. I didn't know it was possible but I straight up dream of this place. Try the glazed cruller - it actually melts in your mouth. The regular glazed? Amazing. The Apple Fritter? This is absolutely the best cafe in the neighborhood. Golden Donuts still preserves the authentic cafe feel. People actually sit to drink coffee and eat. The view from the cafe window is beautiful and fun to look through. Chairs are comfortable and the smell of fresh pastries that are baked in the back fills the cafe. Yes, they have a real bakery in the back and make the donuts right there. The donuts here are also most affordable because they're made right there. The donuts are actually very delicious. I've never gotten a donut here I didn't like. Of course they also make delicious sandwiches. Additionally, as someone who drinks a lot of coffee daily, I love how Golden Donuts always has at least three varieties of coffee. It is always strong and tastes great. I don't know how to describe it but the coffee tastes like the coffee I make at home sometimes. The big chain cafes nearby have coffee that always tastes burned. Finally I want to add a very important detail. know that other cafes provide wifi. This cafe does not and I am very very happy it doesn't. Thank you! NEVER AGAIN. I love donuts and I tend to visit any shop in sight. I order a dozen donut holes for $1.29 and my favourite French cruller. The donuts are no good. The French cruller was hollow and it just tasted bad. It didn't taste like dough at all, I can't even describe what that was but it wasn't good. And the donut holes were the same. Weird texture.. Almost rubbery and chewy. My stomach didn't feel good after so I'll definitely NEVER come back here. I'll stick to All Star Donuts. I'd rather have no donuts than these donuts. I am an East Coast girl and daughter of a donut maker so I have some pretty serious expectations of donuts. That said I understand that West Coast shops make donuts differently and their cake donuts (aka old fashioned) will be less dense and not contain nutmeg. Here's my rundown: Apple Fritter: knocks it out of the park with a solid 5 stars! Giant and well glazed with a perfectly fried exterior and soft doughy interior complete with some apple compote. Divine! Chocolate croissant: a little stale, not enough chocolate. 3 stars Apple Crumb cake donut: solid 4 stars, generous amount of crumb coating and soft inside, dough could benefit from a little spice (like nutmeg) Coffee Roll: quite fresh and tasty and covered with glaze, solid 4 stars--could use more cinnamon between the rolls to differentiate itself taste-wise from a glazed (raised) donut. read more

Great tasting donuts at a good price! Unfortunately they need to work on their late night service. Numerous times I have walked in past 9PM and there is no one behind the counter. After calling out several times to whomever is working in the back still no one comes to help me. This has happened several times and I normally just leave to go get a late night snack from somewhere else. The fact that they are a small business with good prices that is open late are all positives to help overcome the annoyance of it being a cash only place, but those positives only go so far. At Golden Donut, go for what's Golden and stay away from the Brown. What I mean is: get something glazed and avoid the chocolate items. I got a chocolate french cruller and chocolate old fashioned and didn't finish either. I THREW THEM AWAY! They were that bad. My personal opinion is that donuts, by and large, are donuts. Donut shops are distinguished by their coffee, their staff, and their clientele. The clientele is scary, the staff - I've only been in the morning - is a nice, gnomish ukranian woman that I have a very hard time understanding and so I make her repeat EVERYTHING, which probably makes her hate me (and not unreasonably so), and the coffee affirmatively sucks. Still, it's on the way to drop the bobbleheads off at school, and once a week on donut day I'm a hero and I get 30 uninterrupted minutes with my kids and their eclair (him) and chocolate frosted (her) with a half-dozen donut holes to share. Also their ham and cheese croissants are made with two different types of bread at different times of the week I have no idea why but one of them is pretty good and the other is absolutely amazing either way 20 seconds in the microwave makes for super tasty treat. Your clientele is generally the local Chinese people in the neighborhood looking to just hang out for a day. They're made fresh daily and the staffs are very nice and friendly. they also have sandwiches and bagels on their menu which are made to order. Don't go to this donut shop expecting gourmet pastry enlightenment. I'm not complaining, but offering up a dose of reality. They're not using organic anything or non-GMO this or preservative-free that. They're not Whole Foods. It's cheaply made fried and baked goods, made the way they're made. The hood, aka Little Russia is not a trendy hipster spot like the Valencia-Mission or a boutique, shoppy villa like Union from Franklin to Divisadero. This area is old SF, holding out on the changes currently transforming much of the city. If you want that other stuff, go to those places! lol But when you need that donut fix, they're your man. Why 4 stars for an average donut shop? Because it's there and it's not an Apple Store yet, and it represents a sugary vein in the heart of the city, which is a prerequisite to any major urban city worthy of having an early morning to late at night donut shop. I always love when a donut place in cities like San Francisco, Vegas, Santa Cruz stay open super late to accommodate the drunk masses. While I didn't find the donuts and pastries to be exceptionally good, we went in at about 11 o'clock and they were good for what we needed them for. Little bit on the costly side but hey, we are talking about San Francisco after all. I think we ended up only eating the glazed donuts, half of a maple bar, apple fritter was no good and the chocolate donut was overkill but really because we had already eaten so much sugar as it was. We tend to like this location, we have a couple of favorite dive bars and restaurants that we hit both at happy hour prices as well as the usual menus. There's a great sushi place on the strip of businesses as well as one of the best dive bars we have found so far. We also got dollar happy hour oysters not too far, a little bit further up in the Palisades area that were awesome. Worth the drive from Sacramento for the oysters alone at a buck apiece. Check out the donut Spot sure, but take a peek around at some of the restaurants and venues in the area, not far from the beach or from anything else of value really. What a gem in the Richmond neighborhood of SF! Anytime my fiancée and I are craving a hot glazed or sugar donut, we try and drop by this little-known spot between 8-9pm--that's when these donuts are fresh out of the oven, the deep fryer, or whatever magical place they come from! Ok, i'm a lot picky about my donuts, but that doesn't mean I judge any old donut unfairly. It's just that the apple fritter was really dry, very thinly glazed, and almost flavorless apart from the pungent oil flavor. It was like eating one of those fried oil sticks you get at a taiwanese restaurant to eat with your shao bing. Bleech. Ordered croissants here once. It was a little overpriced and not as fresh as I would have liked. Came back a second time to satisfy my donut craving with 1 dozen donut holes ($1.65). Again, they weren't fresh and were actually stale. Maybe because I got them at 4pm. It's surprising this place is open late. Most places I know of close by 2pm. We are from out of state and happened to be driving in the area and I wanted coffee. We found this place on the same street as Starbucks. I'm not a big fan of donuts so I ordered their Porky English Muffin sandwich (I dont remember the exact name), my dad orders a BLT and my daughter and grandma ordered donuts. The owners seemed very nice. Instead of yelling out the order for their customers to come and grab it themselves, they came to us and put it on our table. I don't know if they do it all the time, but that's class. The breakfast sandwich was delish. The english muffin was toasted perfectly. I enjoyed every bite of it! It's a bummer that it's cash only, but the staff is really nice in the sense that they'll tell you where Wells Fargo is and wait for you to go get cash. I should give it two stars but I work in the hospitality industry and tend to be nicer than I should be. My iced mocha was just a hot mocha out of a machine with ice in it, so it was kind of jacked up. The cinnamon roll is greasy on the bottom like it was fried at too low of a temperature and the batter absorbed a lot of oil.
