Order Chicken fried steak for breakfast and a large Pepsi. $20. This was a waste of money. I ordered eggs over medium. They were busted open and over cooked. The chicken fried steak barely had gravy on it and the box was just full of their country potatoes. I ordered for pickup. If you're looking for a country breakfast I don't recommend this place.

Have been passing this place often when going to the store so decided to stop and get some dinner. This is a nice diner which Reminds me of one back in Whittier my grandma and I would go to back in the day. Food was delicious and more than enough to satisfy my hunger. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. This was their daily special. I would definitely come back to try other items and want to try their breakfast next. Service was great and staff was very helpful and courteous. Would definitely come back. If in the area give them a try.

First time here. It's a beautiful Monday. 9:45am Greeted and seated very quickly. The food is extremely soft. And my eggs Benedict were very basic. Soggy muffin. I can definitely see why I see lots of elderly folks in here. Which is great: so if you're trying to accommodate your friend, or Family on the super soft food here is the place. I thought of denture wearers. A place they can feel comfortable eating. Not so savory. Not very good Our waiter was okay. Didn't really go out of her way to help us naviagte the menu We told her it was our first time here and gave us each time very little time to think of Our order. She kept coming asking if we were ready when we weren't she seemed very annoyed and bothered. Happy Mother's Day! My son took me out to breakfast. Ava R. Our server was very dry and semi rude throught the entire meal. Food was okay. The potatoes were horrible. Dry as if we asked for crispy fries. To top it off, they were handing out carnations to the "Mother's". Guess who ddidn't get one. Yep. You guessed it the only Black mom in the restaurant. Kudos to the other servers who honored the Mother's at their tables. I watched her go to all her other tables handing them out with grace. Sad, but a true reality.

The service is quick and amazing! This is my second time coming here. The food is great but could be better. You do get big portions and the prices are not bad either. The environment is cozy and quick parking too. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner available at 9am on Sunday.

This is the spot for us when we go up to all the national parks in the Sierra Nevada. We usually stop here to have breakfast/lunch as our last "real" meal before our camping our backpacking trip. Overall, the food is decent for a typical local/home feel diner. The people there are great. Our server Rebecca was very attentive and detail. She was also very friendly, calm, and efficient in getting our food and our bill. Will definitely come back again as always.

One of my favorite places in Bakersfield for breakfast. My favorite meal is a hamburger steak with eggs. I have eggs scrambled with some cheddar cheese and green onions. I asked for my hamburger steak rare and actually cook it correctly. Use a higher quality meat, tastes like ground chuck cooking on a flame broiler so it has that flame broiled flavor. I get cottage cheese instead of potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Excellent food and the service is also wonderful. The manager is always working right alongside with the waitresses to insure the customer is taken care of.

I love Molly J's. Breakfast is great and the weekend crowds confirm that. I am a fan of their bowl of soup and corn bread. I have fried several kinds and I like the beef vegetable a lot. Tonight I had the Chinese chicken salad which is very large. The salad dressing is fantastic. My husband loves to come on the weekends for the prime rib. Wonderful service from a down home staff. Best of all are the fresh cinnamon rolls. We like them even better than the ones at the fair. read more

Came for Sunday brunch and wasn't that impressed. If you want orange juice with your breakfast, its hella expensive. Just FYI, Their "large" is actually a small cup. The waitress recommended the Chicken Fried Steak which apparently was their popular item. It wasnt hat great. It was a quarter size of the plate. You get more potatoes on the plate than actual main entree. Very disappointed. I can say though, the place was packed so something there must be good. Maybe a second try? IDK. I will stay in NW Bakersfield for my breakfast. read more

We were there from 7:22 AM - 7:43 AM on 06.06.2021 and was only served coffee. We waited and waited for someone to, at least, take our order but no one came around. We decided to just pay for the coffee and left. Never again. read more

I've been coming here for over 25 years. It's crazy that I'm just now doing a review. I actually worked here when I was super young. And this is one thing I will say, the food is still consistently the same and delicious. The staff has been around for years, they really do take care of you. My favorite dish is definitely the chicken fried steak, fish and chips and delicious peanut butter cream pie. On my most recent visit, I ordered the hot links and eggs. I ordered the sourdough toast, but they do have amazing biscuits and gravy. Molly j's is definitely a BAKERSFIELD FAVORITE! Give em a try! read more

I went there for lunch. The place is clean with high ceiling and nice ambiance. The server was nice and attentive. I got the grilled liver and it comes with bread, soup, fried okra and fries ( those were my choices for the sides) quite a big plate for only $14, And the quality of the food was really good considering the price. read more

Molly J's is a pretty good little place with an old school diner vibe. It's a little pricey IMHO but everything is in California! I had a BLT and it was good. Friend had a bacon cheeseburger and fries and he really liked it. Nice servers too! read more

This place used to be good we went in and paid $64 for two basic breakfasts (pancakes,eggs,hash browns) and it was not worth it at all can't justify $30 per plate the math was off for me also the tables and utensils are dirty read more

If you're looking for a restaurant that kick you out for your views then you're in luck, this is just for you. Horrible customer service. Horrible disgusting food that gave me food poisoning by the way. Wouldn't EVER come here. Staff was rude. I mean Yelp should really have the option of no stars because even one star is just a little too kind to leave for this place. Maybe one day they'll close for good? One can hope. read more

Came here for lunch while visiting town and I had the Potato Breakfast Burrito with a side of Chorizo. I will tell you that the food and friendly service was excellent and very friendly in an old-school kind of way! The Chorizo was remarkable in that it was probably the best tasting that I've ever had, very smoky and not too greasy. Well done! Too it off with a very friendly server Charlotte who would never allowed my coffee cup to go empty! Great job and see you next time. read more

I waited for a half hour to be seated and then I was told by the host that I cannot be seated until my group showed up. I was waiting on one person. I have eaten here multiple times and I like the place but I felt like I was singled out and I can only assume the reason! I say that because there were others seated before me and their group was not there yet unfortunately I will never go back that was a huge slap in the face read more

Coffee is good. They provide Delight French vanilla instead of only half and half milk like mostly other places. Service is great. Had some French Toast with strawberries. Toast was good very fluffy and delicious but the strawberries were not natural they were soggy can ones. But it was ok. Next time I will have no strawberries. read more

Good breakfast, friendly service. The weekday breakfast specials on the back of the menu where good to try. Close to the freeway exit so an easy stop if passing through Bakersfield and WAY better than a Denny's. The prices are reasonable (comparable to Denny's) the portions are large sized not greasy or over seasoned with a bunch of salt, comfy atmosphere, clean bathrooms. Yes I recommend. read more

Very disappointing. Placed an order over the phone, the guy never asked for a name. So when we went in, there was confusion about what we even ordered. Got home, missing items. The food was really bland too. Another big gripe is that they don't include what is in each item on the menu. For instance, I got a spinach omelette for my vegetarian mother, only to find that it has ham in it. Would give it less than a star if I could. Would not go back. read more

We visit Molly J''s regularly on Tuesdays as that is the day we come into Bakersfield for weekly shopping. From the first time we ate there to the present, have never been disappointed with the quality of food, the pleasant and efficient staff/service, take outs and oh, yes, holiday pies to order. The cherry pie we ordered for Christmas was one of the best we have ever tasted- not sweet, not sour but loaded with fruit flavor, good crust too! Count us a loyal Molly J's customers. read more

Awesome restaurant, small but efficient and very delicious. We are regulars at this place and have always had overall good service and great food. I love their country potatoes and their house salsa is very tasty, goes well with the potatoes and eggs. This place is good with kids, they have their own kids menu which is also a coloring page to keep them busy. Only negative for this place is the size of the restaurant but not much can be done since it doesn't have much room to expand on. Parking is also limited at times. read more

First time here last Thursday! Holy smokes was I surprised! One of thee best breakfasts I've EVER had in Bakersfield. Yes, I went there! Came in with my wife and two of our best friends. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros smothered with Chile verde. Yum! The egg was perfectly poached and laid upon a crispy homemade tostada. A side of homemade hashbrowns and beans finished off the delicious plate! I ordered the pork chop breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns, and biscuit with gravy. Oh....my...gosh!!!! It was dynamite! The pork chops were perfectly grilled yet tender. Mmmm! Biscuit was huge and super soft and buttery with a side of house gravy that was out of this world amazing! Also tried their pancakes! Equally impressed! Great deal for your buck! I can't wait to go back! Our new definite breakfast spot whenever we're in town! I would of posted pics but the food was so darn good we didn't waste any time digging in! I'll make sure to try their pies next time. I heard those are delicious! read more

Great friendly service, food came fast and was very good. My only complaint was this old guy ( looked like he was a regular customer) stood at my table and tried to talk to me the whole time I was there. Not the restaurants fault but will keep me from going back. If you are the type of person that can tell an old crazy guy to get lost, this would be a great place for you to eat. read more

Stopped here for breakfast this morning, I am vegan so it can be difficult to find places with options. Although Molly J's did not have a great variety of vegan options, my waitress did not hesitate to accommodate for my dietary needs at no extra charge. I ordered a potato breakfast burrito with a variety of sautéed vegetables. read more

The setback for me was the price tag, it was almost $18 for just the benedict with hash brown, no drink or anything else. It's a bit high, I think for the quality and taste if it were a few bucks cheaper I'd give pretty high praise. Still, it was a pretty good experience and I'll probably give it another shot down the road.

The Drink: To wash it all down, I ordered the basil lemonade, and omg, I need to figure out how to recreate this at home. It's exactly what it sounds like, crisp, refreshing lemonade with a perfect herbal basil finish. The Verdict: If you loved their old spot, the new location takes everything to the next level. About a mile west of Highway 99 you will find a really good coffee shop with tasty food and excellent service. I have eaten here many times, always at the counter, and I've been impressed by the place. Now, getting to my most recent visit, well, I looked over the fulsome menu and ordered a ham, avocado and bacon sandwich on a fresh croissant, with a cup of coffee. It hit the spot, and there was a lot of food in that little sandwich. I thought about ordering a pie (I had had a good experience previously), but just kept my meal fairly light. read more
