I really wanted to like Moncha Cafe, but overall the experience was disappointing. The popcorn chicken was very dry, with some pieces oddly drenched in ranch. The fish balls had decent flavor but suffered from the same dryness issue. The rice was overcooked and low quality. The fried tofu felt unnecessary since nearly everything on the plate was already fried. Pickled vegetables or something fresh would have balanced the meal better. The drinks were poor. The mango fruit tea had no noticeable tea or mango flavor. The protein matcha was extremely bland, almost watery. I understand protein powders can be unflavored, but there was no matcha taste at all, which made me question what was actually in the drink. The fries were very boring and not good, even with the seasoning options. Service was very slow, though it looked like only 1 person was handling orders, drinks, and food. That part was honestly sad to see and not really their fault. The environment itself is cool, but many people ordered very little and stayed for a long time to study or play games. That makes it feel less like an actual place to eat. If even takeout is slow and low quality, it is hard to see how the business can sustain itself. This place is really spacious. I saw a few people working on their laptops, so I assume there's free Wi-Fi. ​The Midnight Jasmine Milk Tea was pretty good--I'd give it 4 stars. The flavor was really unique, and getting it at 25% sweetness was perfect. They didn't have regular boba, though, and I'm not a huge fan of the agar boba since I prefer the chewiness of the traditional kind. ​The 3-star rating is for the popcorn chicken. It lacked that classic flavor most of us are used to, and if you're looking for that distinct basil taste, you can forget about it. It was also definitely on the salty side. read more

My first experience with this place was a bad one. My wife was craving popcorn chicken and Mr Dragon was closed today. We searched on yelp and found this place recently opened. The pics of the popcorn chicken looked good, promising. I called in to place a pick up order and thats where the problems started. A guy answered the phone and said "Hello?" He sounded unsure why I was calling. I answered back, Hello...?? I paused for a second and asked is this Moncha? He said yes this is. So I said can I place an order? He responded back yes is it going to be for dine in or pick up. In my head I was wondering why anyone would call to place a dine in order. Anyways I responded with pick up. I told him my order and he responded saying uhh let me check if I have enough to make that, uh yea I think we can take your order. I said okay. He responded back with okay. I was waiting for him to ask for my name, number, give me the total, tell me how long, something, but no, he just said okay and that was it. I told my wife the guy on the phone sounded new so not sure how this is going to go. She was really craving popcorn chicken so she didn't want to get something else. She drove over there to go get it and the guy said it would be 20 min. She decided to go pick our daughter up and then head back. It was a little over 20 min when she got back and she had waited another 5 or so minutes. She asked the guy how long would it be and he said it'll be min. The oil is still heating up. My wife responded to just cancel the order because it seemed like it was going to take longer then expected. He then responded saying it has only been 15 min when since she left which was wrong. Overall bad first impression of this place. They need to train better or hire more people because he was by himself and didn't know how to run the place. Only one note about the parking lot, don't follow the arrow. 3-4 weeks ago, I made a deadly mistake following the arrow and it popped my tire. Based on previous review, that person claim she popped her tires too and it happen to many other people. The manager said he brought it up to city council too. I think the reason why people popped their tire is because they followed the arrow. A lot of people followed the arrow base on the skid marks on the curb. I think the safe way is to go maybe little bit further than the arrow line then turn into the parking lot. That is my theory on how to not pop your tires when entering the parking lot. You can always park on Valley Blvd too to avoid the whole parking lot too. Other than the parking lot, I think moncha cafe have lots of good vibe, and very kind staff. I appreciate the staff and their service. They make really good boba. I normally get the oolong milk tea. read more

They sell expired food. Although you can say this is hyperbole, this is the best explaination that I can describe how the food tastes. The popcorn chicken was dry, disgusting, and the fried basil leaves it came with tasted like fish. Imagine how old the fryer oil has to be for it to make the food taste that way. I was impressed how bad the fries tastes, from the cajun flavor to the unflavored fries. The fryer oil must be as old as the business itself. All the drinks are heavily watered down and the taro drink tastes bitter. The service is unremarkable ans the seats are not comfortable. I believe a change in ownership is needed. read more

The jasmine green milk tea with sakura agar is my go-to order every time I come here and never disappoints! The owner is constantly adding new items to the menu. Today, when I came in, the owner let us know that the midnight jasmine milk tea (infused with purple corn) was new to the menu. At his recommendation, I gave it a try and it may just take the crown for my favorite drink here! The food is also very good. Stopped by for the soft opening yesterday and loved it! I tried the Limeade Jasmine Green Tea and my best friend got the Midnight Jasmine Green Tea. Both were super fragrant, refreshing, and tasty. You can really tell they put care into their drinks. The space itself is super cute and clearly designed with a cozy, feminine aesthetic in mind. Lots of tables and comfy seating make it the kind of place where you can easily chill for hours, whether you're hanging out with friends, working on your laptop, or even playing games. The place is clean, they offer unique drinks, and so much variety in flavors for their snacks! They have garlic parm, honey butter, BBQ, old bay and more. Meet Tea fries can't compare! The tea itself is so fragrant, you can tell right away that they use high-quality leaves. The flavor is smooth, rich, and not overly sweet, which really lets the tea shine. I've wanted to try a new place in the SGV and stumbled upon this place. You can kind of say it's a hole in the wall, and that's perfect for someone who's trying to get some work done because they have comfortable seating, great drinks, and friendly staff! I didn't know what to get and they said their most popular drink and their bread and butter was their 1, Midnight Jasmine Green Tea and they had this topping that I've not seen anywhere else called Sakura Boba. Of course, I'm familiar with Sakura, but in boba? Super innovative. It gave a nice floral accent to the tea that wasn't overbearing. So I actually don't like MOST jasmine teas because they use extracts and it ends up tasting artificially floral, but Moncha uses their own proprietary blend of Jasmine tea. I didn't get a chance but they also had a display up front of the teas they have/use. And then it's coupled up with Peruvian chicha to give it that unique and addicting taste. The chairs and tables are also very comfortable and have outlets in the walls so it's a great place to study and do work at, so if you're into that... Also, the staff are very nice and friendly and it's an establishment that seems very well trained and knowledgeable on the drinks and food they make. So if you'd like a good place to try if the others are too crowded, definitely give this place a shot. For me however, this'll be a go-to! I can't wait to go back! read more

Been seeing this place and we finally got a chance to try it. The interior is pretty cute, great for hanging out. Snacks are pretty good, great price and portion. We purchased the bento as well and it was ok. For double the price of the snacks, we got like half the portion with a side of rice and salad, which is pretty bad to be considered a bento. No sauce for that tiny portion of salad either. Overall, drinks are good and snacks are good. Another down side is that you end up smelling like deep fried oil if you stay too long. It's perfect sweetness for me. So far, I have tried their fries and chicken, both of which I really enjoyed. I like how the fries not only have multiple seasoning options, but they're really thick. I hate flimsy fries. For their popcorn chicken, they're fried really well, and they come with three sauces. Personally, I am a huge Old Bay fan, so I got it with that seasoning. Another huge plus is the prices for the food. For $6, I got a big box of chicken. Some other things to note for my studious people, they have outlets and extension cords if you can't reach.
