We just stumbled upon Monica's Mercato, and I'm glad we did, they make amazing sandwiches. We purchased the Turkey Sandwich with provolone. All the ingredients were freshly cut and the turkey was very smoky. The sandwiches are enough to split if you're it too hungry. There were three people working so the wait wasn't too long, very fast service. I love the decor and ambiance with hanging meets from the ceiling too! read more

We went in on a Sunday morning at 10 AM and were the only people in line to get a sandwich. After reading about the Monica's Mercato having the best Italian grinder in the city, we had to make the trip. I was glad to see that they opened at 9:30 AM on Sunday morning. The deli is organized, very clean, and has the feel of being in a deli in Italy as they slice all of the meats fresh to order. The Italian was $20 plus tax and they only take cards for payment. The sandwich was stacked high with quality meats. The pickles and bread were homemade and the sandwich was worth the hype. The flavors all blended together perfectly. They have so many other sandwiches that I want to try so I will be back when I'm back in the area for lunch. read more

Food: Italian sub. I could only eat half of the entire sub. Everything in the sandwich was fresh and tasty. Service: waited about 5-7 minutes for the sandwich to be made. What a sub! This place is a true Italian deli with fresh cuts and delicious flavors. The whole sandwich is quite large so could be split into 2 meals or split with another person (1 large=$20). They take about 10 min to make and are quite flavorful. I'll always come here when I'm in town. read more

The line outside the door oversold the restaurant. I was by myself and wanted to try more than one sandwich. They have no half sandwiches, so I had to order two full sandwiches for $20 each. Underwhelming is an understatement. I got the prosciutto and burrata special and the Italian. Bread looked delicious, it's mid at best. Cold, no crunch, too firm. The Italian wasn't very flavorful either, actually worse than the burrata special sub. Very disappointing. The watermelon lemonade was decent I guess. Would not go back and wouldn't recommend anyone go there. Overpriced and under flavored. read more

Came to Boston for a couple days and couldn't wait to try the food. Some were more disappointing than others....but Monica's did not disappoint! I was on my own today which was a bummer because I would have gotten a sandwich. They looked so good but they were huge. Good to share. I got the grilled chicken salad instead, which was delicious! I had no idea what I was ordering so it was a pleasant surprise to see a bunch of roasted veggies (eggplant and zucchini are my favorites so it was great they had those in there). I asked for the house dressing. I didn't get cheese but I bet it would have been terrific with it. There was a breast of cut up chicken in the salad. The salad was huge. Enough to feed a couple people. There is no seating so I walked down the street and watched a guy play basketball in this little neighborhood court. They provide a plastic fork and knife and napkins in a bag. read more

Had the caprese burrata special. Was delicious and ingredients tasted very fresh. Place is great if you want a quick lunch to go. Staff are quick to order and make food. Line moves quickly. Be warned, there is no seating at this location so you'll have to find your own. All in all, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would go again. read more

Fellow Foodies (: this deli is an experience worth every minute of wait time. As soon as I saw the dried meats hanging in the window and I walked in with gusto. Upon walking through the turn style entrance you have entered a different century. I got lucky as there was barely any wait on Sunday at 2pm. You can see workers behind the deli counter creating sandwich masterpieces. But I was only interested in buying salumi and cheese by the pound. If you wait patiently, one of the workers will make eye contact with you and then you order. I decided on Genoa salumi and Manchego cheese. What a joy to watch her slice my salumi "see through" thin. The Manchego was left in a block cut. Oh my Ghandi, my first bite, I was in love. Come here ready for a great bite of meat, cheese, sandwich, etc. They sell lots of other goodies and bev' alcoholic and non alcoholic. read more

This sandwich was AMAZING. Fair warning, it's HUGE. Lucky enough my husband and I were super hungry. We got the Tuukka special to split. It had turkey, crispy bacon, pepperoni with onion mayo and hots. The hots made it delicious. The way they packed that meat up so high. Truly worth every penny. read more

I have wanted to try an Italian sub from Monica's forever. Sadly I just didnt think it was anything special. The bread tasted pretty stale and the sandwich itself definitely needed more oil and vinegar, and probably more filling as well. There was nothing wrong with it, I was just expecting it to be a lot more impressive than it was. read more

The line was pretty long, but the sandwich was 100% worth the wait. We grabbed it to go and split the Italian by the harbor. For an Italian sandwich, it had a great meat to veg ratio and a little kick with the hot peppers. Overall it had a great flavor (good balsamic for sure) and with a bag of chips and a drink, made a great picnic meal on a Saturday in Boston! read more

We stopped here for a stop on our food tour. They had THE BEST Italian sandwich I have ever had. Meats thinly sliced, piled high, with just the right accompaniments of hot peppers thinly sliced vegetables and thick glazed balsamic vinegar. The bun is amazing as well! Highly recommend. read more

This sandwich was colossal and delicious. The steak was marinated so well, the balsamic complimented the vegetables perfectly, and the bread was fresh. Monica's Mercato is a highly recommended spot for locals, and as a tourist visiting the city, I had to check it out. Located in North End, the walk to the spot itself is super nice. We got there at around 11:00AM on a Saturday, and there was only one person ahead of us. We had to wait about two minutes for their sandwich to be prepared, so super quick process overall. They cut up the deli meats in front of you, so you get a mini show while you wait. We got the Italian and the Caprese Burrata special, $20/each sandwich. Despite the hefty price tag for a sandwich, these are huge sandwiches. You can easily eat a whole sandwich in two meals, which is what we did. The Italian sandwich was great, I think their most popular option. The meats are fresh, the pickles give it a really nice crunch and sour kick, and the onions some additional texture to the bite. I was a big fan! It does get a bit salty as you would expect a deli-meat-filled sandwich. They definitely do not skimp on the meats, so be prepared to have a soda nearby! The caprese special was a nice complement. Definitely less salty, and the burrata tasted fresh, with a bit of the saltiness coming from the prosciutto, countered by the sweet balsamic glaze. Although the Italian was my favorite, I would definitely switch it up between these two options. I agree with some of the reviews saying that bread could be crispier. But I did like the fact that when I went to eat my second half of my leftover sandwich hours later, the bread was not soggy nor too soft. Definitely a fan of this spot and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area! read more

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers who flagged this place. I would have been sad had I missed the opportunity to eat this absolutely amazing sandwich. The Mercato is half shop, half deli - with prosciutto hanging from the ceiling. (Sigh... incredible!) My date and I split the sandwich and it was the best lunch I had all week on my quick trip to Boston. Fresh, piled high and the most delicious bread. Do yourself a favor, go in hungry, order the Italian sub and find the little park up the street to enjoy EVERY bite! read more

We were wandering around the North End and saw a long line outside of Monica's and decided to see what the hype was about. A kind woman in line told us she gets a sandwich here every single time she's in Boston and that it was absolutely worth it- and it was. This was THE BEST Italian sub I have ever had. And I love Italian sandwiches. The line took at least 25 minutes but was more than enough for 2 people to share- talk about generous portions! The bread had the right chew and the meats were so tender and flavorful. I would eat here routinely if I lived in the area. read more

Boy, what a nice looking deli here on the North End of Boston. You gotta love a nice fit Italian Tri Tip Sandwich. That is the sandwich I went for. It is delicious with Guida cheese, or any other cheeses you want as toppings. You kind of get to build your own sandwiches here like Subway. Nice workers and staff. Had high hopes, but didn't really get what I was hoping for. We ordered the chicken cutlet and Italian sandwiches on grubhub for pickup and left to get them once we saw the restaurant had acknowledged the order. When we arrived ~25 min later, the restaurant did not have our order nor did they recall receiving it. They were very kind about it and started working on it as quickly as they could, but it was an extra 20 minute wait while we were in a bit of a rush. The sandwiches themselves were pretty hefty, and my partner enjoyed the chicken cutlet sandwich but the Italian was on the salty side. I would still return to try the fresh pastas, but if picking up sandwiches, recommend calling ahead to ensure they're ready for pickup at the intended time! read more

This almost feels like a scam.... Such high reviews & everyone says it's the best in Boston. There's no way. We live in the north end & my boyfriend had tried it before but was underwhelmed so we both gave it a chance today. I got the eggplant Parmesan & he got the caprese special. The eggplant Parmesan was a monstrosity mess of a sandwich that managed to taste like nothing. My boyfriend said his sandwich was okay. But the craziest part of it all is the bread which tastes super low quality & ruins the sandwiches altogether. Save your money & the wait time & go somewhere else read more

We tried this spot nestled in the North End a few times while on holiday. We tried most of the subs - Italian, steak tip, chicken cutlet and meatball. The service was super quick, kind and helpful with any questions. Inside there are a bunch of open counter salamis cheese and canned items to order from so you can take away with any hot food. Brought our family an Italian and it was the best they ever had - they shared they'll be making trips to Boston just for it. read more

This was a recommendation I didn't want to miss. Easily a top 5 sandwich, close to the top of that. These sandwiches are very big, so much that you can probably split with somebody else. I'm glad we did that because 1/2 a sandwich was plenty and it wouldn't have been fun to tote around a sandwich all day when sight seeing. There was a line out the door but it went fast - we probably waited about 20 minutes total and it was absolutely worth it. I would've tried it all, but we got the Caprese Special. I was sold when I watched an employee spread the buratta on someone else's and I had to have it. It was incredible. Highly recommend. This might be my first stop when I get back to Boston. Plus, it's right next to Bova's. Get a pastry while you're there. Perfection. read more

Upon first looking at the menu, I experienced sticker shock to have to pay $20 for a sandwich. After receiving the sandwich, the price totally made sense. My dad and I shared the chicken parm sandwich- all of their ingredients are super fresh, freshly baked bread and freshly sliced meats. ONE SIZE SUBS. They make them how they are and that's it, you get what you get and you'll like it. My friends all got subs and I got a salad because y'all girl is trying to watch her carb intake. We come here all the time whenever we're in Boston and the subs alone is worth the trip to the north end. They slice the meat for the subs upon order so ultimate freshness. Ya really cant find a better sub anywhere else in the New England area. read more

So disappointed in this place. Didn't live up to the hype at all. Just went for an Italian sub. This Italian wouldn't be in my top 25 of Italian subs I've had. Too bad. We took an expensive Uber trip each way just for this. Place was very busy on a Saturday. Super small inside, no place to eat. No greeting or direction from the owners. Just followed the herd to order at a certain point of the counter that could easily have an 'order here' sign. read more

If you're looking for one of the largest and tastiest sandwiches in the North End, you have to give Monica's Mercato a try! You will not leave hungry, or disappointed! I have been down to the North End countless times. However, tonight the weather was poor and I didn't feel like making the trip from South Boston. Luckily, Uber Eats had Monica's available to order from. Monica's Mercato offers a wide variety of delicious Italian classics. You'll find a wide variety of hot and cold subs, fresh salads, homemade soup, hand-sliced cheeses, hand-sliced meats, house-baked bread, and so much more. The main draw here is the enormous hot and cold subs. The meats and cheeses are hand-sliced and the meat is piled high on house-baked bread. The bread is just right too. It isn't too hard and it isn't too soft. I dislike breads that rip up the roof of your mouth. That isn't an issue here! I went with the classic, cold Italian sub. Fresh-baked bread piled high with hand-sliced prosciutto, mortadella, salami, and provolone. It is topped with crisp lettuce, pickles, juicy tomato, onion, hots, olive oil, and balsamic. The sandwich was around $20. However, it is large enough to split amongst two adults. The sub is massive! It is well worth $20 in my opinion. The meats and cheeses are all hand-sliced and the ingredients are all top-notch. The size of the sandwich is well worth the money. Monica's Mercato is one of my go-to spots in the North End for an incredible Italian sub. I look forward to trying the Caprese Burrata Special sub on my next visit! My only suggestion would be is to offer the option to add mayo to a sub on UberEats. I know many people frown on this, but just a suggestion. The sub was delicious with the olive oil and balsamic! One of my go-to spots when I am craving a true, authentic North End sandwich. read more

Best sandwich I have ever had. I do not think you will regret stopping here if you are craving a quick lunch in The North End. It's all to go, so you should plan to have somewhere to eat. But the deli meat is so good, I buy it just to make sandwiches at home. My only con is the price point. The sandwiches are about 20$ each, but definitely really big, you can split between two people. read more

We ordered a Diet Coke, the Scampi appetizer, Carbonara, and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. The scampi was easily the best part of the meal. It was flavorful, cooked well, and made for a nice appetizer to start things off. Unfortunately, the pastas didn't quite meet expectations, especially considering the price. The Rigatoni Alla Vodka was $28, but the pasta wasn't cooked al dente and felt overdone. The Carbonara, also $28, was disappointing as the eggs had curdled and the dish ended up being much oilier than I expected. At $18, the scampi was enjoyable, but overall I don't think the food justified the price point. One bright spot was the service. Our waitress was incredibly kind, checked in on us frequently, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a very aesthetic design. I can definitely see why it's popular on social media. There is also outdoor seating, which I imagine would be a nice option on a warm summer evening. One thing I did notice, though, is how closely the tables are spaced together. Since the restaurant was mostly empty during our visit it wasn't an issue, but I could see it feeling crowded and fairly loud once the dining room fills up. I was honestly surprised by the meal because Gigi is part of the Mazi Restaurant Group, and I've really enjoyed some of their other concepts, especially Kava Neo-Taverna. Based on this experience, though, I think there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Boston that offer better food and better value for the same price. Overall, I'd give Gigi 3/5 stars. The service and atmosphere were both strong, but the food didn't live up to the pricing. If I came back, it would probably be for drinks, appetizers, and the ambiance rather than a full Italian dinner.

I explained that I couldn't see the small print, and only then did she drop the issue. When our food arrived, it felt like it was simply dropped on the table with no warmth or courtesy. We also witnessed another waitress respond to a customer who was unsure where they were seated by saying loudly, "Do we need to put up directions?!" in a sarcastic and embarrassing tone. It's unfortunate because the food is genuinely very good. However, no meal is worth being treated this way. There are many great Italian restaurants in Boston, and next time we visit, we'll be choosing one of them.

Even knowing it's a calorie bomb, I couldn't resist dipping it in more. Baccala Mantecato: Classic Venetian flavor. The salted cod was tender and delicate, almost like a light foam, somewhere between raw silk and mousse; the dark bread was simple yet not coarse, perfectly balancing the saltiness of the cod. The most surprising thing was the refreshing aroma of celery leaves that emerged in the aftertaste, lingering and persistent. Lumache: When looking at the menu, seeing "chili butter, Jonah crab, breadcrumb," I never expected such a distinct citric acidity. The subtle acidity was gently enveloped in the fatty aroma of chili butter, perfectly complementing the umami and sweetness of the crab meat with just the right amount of spiciness. The lumache were firm and chewy, the sauce rich and smooth, and the breadcrumbs light and crisp, creating a rich and distinct texture. The portion was generous; even after microwaved the next day, the sauce had naturally broken down and the lemon's tartness had dissipated, but the noodles mixed with chili oil still had a unique flavor.
