LOVE the pizza. It's a unique thin crust. The green pepper pizza has marinated green peppers. Delicious. Also, the parmigiana sandwiches are huge and covered in mariana sauce. I personally love that. The italian dressing is so good, they now sell it bottled. read more

Just tried this place for the first time and I'm very disappointed. We ordered two pizzas and an order of fries. As soon as I saw the boxes I was over it. The sizes were so small and the pizzas themselves looked like they were frozen. The Hawaiian pizza barely even had ham. You think for pricey pizzas that they would be better quality and size but I guess not this place. Wasn't even crazy about the French fries. There was literally no salt on them. I have been dining at Monte's since I was a small child and I was born in 1958. The neighborhood atmosphere, friendly service , and the fact that everything has pretty much stayed the same through the years gives Monte's its charm and the pizza is a part of Lynn's history. Listen they would get 5 stars if it wasn't for their atmosphere. Its dark and you can never get phone service and you have trains going by you over head. But who cares it is what it is. This place was recommended to us by several life long Lynn residents. We gave it a shot expecting a dive bar with good food. Half way through the meal I thought i was dining in a nursing home. The place is filthy. The wait staff has a perpetual look of confusion on their faces. The fish was dry. Everyone raves about the pizza but I'm guessing these people wouldn't know Papa John's from the North End. Oh yeah and be aware this place is cash only. Monte's has to be a front for the mob. I've been coming to Monte's since I was a young buck. Great pizza- right up there with Little Italy, Santarpio's, and Bianchi's. Great value. Monte's is an acquired taste. It's a Lynn institution, and to say you don't like Monte's where I come from is like saying you're a Yankee's fan. It's blasphemous and unacceptable. There's no place like it. The waitresses aren't charming, it's small, but it's got that hidden gem, hole in the wall quality to it. If you're going in expecting a gourmet experience you're totally in the wrong place. The pizza's are f*n AWESOME. I used to go there on my birthday every year and would eat a whole pie to my head. My Mom ate there pizza when she was pregnant with me, I was created out of Monte's pizza. You just can't find better pizza in Lynn, period. They don't deliver though, which sucks. Also if you're eating there you'll notice the minor tremors that occur every 25 minutes or so, since it's literally built underneath a rail-road, and train's do pass by and shake the place like crazy. Some people are really turned off by this, but I love it. Mostly because it reminds me of the diner in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" that they all hung out in that would shake because of the train. Surprised by these reviews. The pizza is what makes Montes famous. It's a thin crust bar pizza cooked on a pan similar to the ones that you find all over the south shore but better. Locals grow up on it. It may not be for everyone but the place is always packed so what does that tell you? I've introduced many people to montes including my wife. She didn't know what to make of it at first and now she wants it every week. My kids love it also. It is not you're typical pizza. Definitely one of a kind. Definitely delicious! read more

After living in Lynn for 5 years now, along with growing up for years as a child, I have never tried montes pizza up until this evening! It's very possible I've had a slice from somewhere as a kid, just not that I can remember. Considering not only is Enzo's closed on a Sunday, same applies for Nickeys pizza on Lynnfield St. Leaving Nahant beach earlier was going to call a pizza to go from Tides on my home, however they weren't doing deliveries due to how busy they were. I was left many other options. A family member of mine told me to call in 2 pizzas and a chicken finger! Was surprised that someone picked up right away. Was polite and not rushing me off the phone. Told me 15/20 minutes for pick up! When the pizzas were delivered, still hot, I was pleasantly surprised that they were actually pretty good! It's not your average Greek style or Italian Bianchi's/New York style pizza. Its flat bread pizza. Reminds me of Sam n' Joes in Danvers, however not even close to as good! It's one size only. Good enough for 1 hungry person to eat on there own. The chicken finger tastes like they had definitely been frozen awhile. And I asked for a side of BBQ sauce to dip them in but instead got this reddish sauce with a spicy kick that taste nothing even remotely close to BBQ sauce. Would I eat from there again? Probably but won't go out of way for it! Also, if you don't eat the pizza fresh hot, it tastes like crap after 30 mins. This place is a 2. I liked the divey yet flashback in time feel. I'm not a regular on the north shore and was only up there for business. It was the "since 1946" sign outside the place that drew me in as I had never heard of it, being a South Shore guy most of my life. I like to check out places like this who've been in a community for decades. Anyways I did like the atmosphere and sat in the bar where a Red Sox game was playing. The decor is old but clean. The clientele look like locals, probably most of whom have been coming here for years. Many knew the staff and vice versa. I got a beer and the veal parmigian. That's where things went down hill. They brought bread and a basic salad which was fine. But the dish itself, while large, wasn't very good. They served what I refer to as fake veal. It was definitely frozen veal and I believe ground. It reminded me of a TV dinner veal. Not at all what I like. They drowned it with tons of cheese which, since I like cheese, improved things but not enough to make it a decent meal. I mean in retrospect I sort of get it. Their prices are very low so of course they're serving frozen cutlets not fresh "real" veal. I should have known better ordering that in a place like this. I should have ordered the pizza which I saw others get and is smaller, bar pizza type. What I saw looked tasty and I'm willing to guess had I gotten that it might have bumped it up to 3 stars. That's what this place is, a beer and pizza joint. Don't get anything else. If you want to watch a game, have a few beers and a pie this wouldn't be a bad choice. Otherwise pass. Monte's is great for Pizza, not a real "family" restaurant just because space is tight and so is parking. The prices are fair and shouldn't be argued with. I don't know why some of you need credit cards, ifyou don't have 15.00-25.00 in cash you should just settle for mcdonalds to eat at. They don't have call ahead seating so I would recommend going there on a not so busy day. Don't even attempt to go on a Friday night or Saturday night. You'll wait awhile for your food and most likely have to wait for some person who ordered a handful or food for himself. Trains do frequent the bridge above and you can feel the rumble,do panic its just just a train. The renovations are okay but they have WAY too much on the walls,looks like clutter and leaves you wondering why there's dog and kittens pictures on the walls? Overall 3 stars. read more
