Been to Moon's Donut a long time ago, but way before they got fancy. Now that they're upping their game, I had to give them a visit. They had beautiful donuts that are instagramable but let's talk about taste. Ube donut was meh, so I won't get it again. The same for the cheesecake. I thought it was a filled donut, but it was a plain donut with a cream cheese frosting. I actually scraped off the cream cheese because I didn't like the goopy texture. The cronut was very good and lastly the apple fritter was absolutely perfect. Crispy, but still soft, yet cooked all the way through. Moon donuts has gone full yuppie, I tried to buy donuts that I have enjoyed for years and was told they no longer made the flavors I liked but were replaced by things like tiramisu for $3.50 apiece. They are no longer a donut shop as I remember them but a high tone finger food establishment with an attitude. Blueberry cream cheese cronut. Not at all sweet or cloying. The cream and blueberry tasted quality. I really like it. It would've been perfect, however, the taste of the frying oil was very distinct in the actual cronut. Not sure if it's a day old and/or they used poor quality oil. I went to High School down the street at Bishop Montgomery. Before we had licenses, we would have to take the bus home from school every day. The bus stop was across the street from Moon Donuts. I can't tell you how many donuts I consumed from here during those couple of years, but I can tell you that it was A LOT! Sadly, I had not been here in 15-20 years. Fast forward to present day............. I decided to stop by for "old times' sake" and grab a donut. I went with a regular donut, chocolate icing with sprinkles (I would always get their cake donuts, 90% of the time they involved sprinkles). Still under a buck, and still fucking delicious! Moon Donuts has the frying down. They leave their donuts in the oil for an extra second or two (or so it seems) so that the outer shell has a nice "crunch" to it. The innards are nice and soft and the icing/toppings they use aren't too sweet. Pretty much a perfect donut. I miss Moon Donuts! If you are in the neighborhood, definitely stop by. I've been here multiple times, the donuts are always fantastic and when I get them for my team it is always gone! That says a lot as donuts from other establishments a few donuts will be lingering around that no one wants to touch, but if it's from Moon Donuts, GONE! empty box! Where's the donuts?!?! my colleagues will scream! As for the donuts I've had a variety of them and they were all nothing but great tasting, can't stop eating type of donuts. Even one that had questionable toppings of a different color, it was AMAZING! I know, I was surprised. We come here quite a bit, it is right off Torrance and if there's no parking in the lot you can park your car on the street. They had everything you can ever imagine, plus the plain donuts which I enjoy. The glazed twist was so moist and flavorful, that it didn't make it back to the car. The man working behind the counter, who also was making the donuts was very pleasant, which added to the experience. He was not the owner, but a dutiful employee indeed! The donuts. I tried three, which are the varieties I generally try to judge how good all the donuts are. It's not scientific, but it works for me. Here are the three I tried: 1) glazed twist-it was still warm. very tasty. about the same consistency as white sandwich bread, which makes it just a little bit heavy and bready. 2) chocolate glazed old fashioned-generous chocolate glaze. the donut was a tad bready, but it was still OK. 3) apple fritter- $1.50 and very large. Lots of cinnamon flavor, ample apple too. They are very dark, which means they've been fried for a long time. I bit heavy and greasy, but pretty tasty. There were only a couple places to sit down in there on the counter. It's not really a place to sit down and have coffee and donuts. I will definitely go back if I'm in the area.
