I didn't know what to expect, but I was hungry, and they were open. Serendipity! A pizza place that serves pizza! Ok, you can get a calzone, and salad, and breadsticks, but that's about it. Oh, and a reasonable selection of beers. I didn't ask about the wine. I ordered two slices, and a beer, and was very pleased. The staff was friendly, and the service was good. Stopped by moon river pizza a little bit before closing for a slice. It was a nice little pizzeria, I ordered a slice of the T-Rex. While its a few bucks per slice it was a massive slice. Since I am not a small man myself It was definitely enough to not leave me hungry. It was piled with cheese and meats, very good. I did counter service, which normally is uneventful, the staff employed some good-natured sarcasm during the order which I appreciate, the cookie cutter customer service that most businesses employ can be dry. Been wanting to try this place but they are always closed on sunday so on this rare saturday we decided to eat here. My wife and i ordered cheese bread, and a special pizza, my daughter and her husband ordered the maui wowee ( Hawaiian style pizza). Bread sticks were really good. The pizzas were ok. The crust was good but all the toppings tried to do their best, but the sauce couldnt help it. Too bland. Overall a great experience though and loved the staff. read more

I visited Moon River today after seeing something posted on Instagram. I must admit it wasn't my favorite. I wanted a vegan pizza after seeing they offered the Zen Butcher vegan sausage. Instead of ordering a whole pizza I was advised that their single slices were pretty big. So that's what I ordered, 2 slices. I requested pesto, onion, tomatoes, mushrooms, vegan cheese, vegan sausage and breaded eggplant as my toppings (build your own). Two slices was almost $12! (I should've just ordered a whole pizza! ‍) Needless to say my Pizza was not what I expected. The tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, and eggplant was not cooked into the pizza. Instead it was added, as what appeared to be a second thought, or as if they were dressing a hamburger. Totally surprised me. I wanted to ask about it, but by the time my Pizza was ready they were busy and I was ready to go. Not sure if I'll go back, if I do, I won't order slices again. I'm giving them 3 stars because the wait time wasn't long (but now I know why, half my Pizza wasn't cooked), the restaurant was modern and nice. I did notice that there was a employee working in a tank top that was showing A LOT of skin and 100 tattoos! I didn't like the idea that they were working around food in a tank top with so much skin showing, but I didn't see them handle my food, so I'm happy about that. Anyway, maybe I should've asked more questions about their pizza prior to ordering. Although I did tell the cashier that it was first time there. She responded as if "so what! Everyone tells me to try Moon River and I've been trying for months. On a whim, my plans got canceled last night and the kids requested pizza. This is where we went. (2 adults, 2 children) Parking is horrendous; however, I was fortunate enough to find a spot after several of the other businesses closed. I can see how miserable it would be on a busy day though. The environment walking in was insanely laid back and very casual. It's complete with brightly colored walls, a functioning disco ball and 70's decade music. Very helpful, younger looking employees. Also seemed appropriately staffed with no 'Help Wanted' signs. Menu is on a large board to the immediate right with several options; pizzas coming in large, medium and slice options. There were also vegetarian options, calzones and salads. Beer and fountain drinks available. My children gravitated to the T-Rex pizza due to its name alone. An all meat, extra cheese pizza. Also had a half garden salad to share. The salad wasn't anything great- typical rabbit food but it was freshly cut if nothing else. The pizza looked like it was covered in sandwich ham, 6 pepperonis and cheese. 6 slices to a medium and while the slices were huge, I didn't know where the meat was. For something that sounded so carnivorous, it wasn't. There was a magnanimous amount of cheese on the pizza which really made it salty. The crust was thin, crispy and incredibly flavorful. All that said, this was on par for good pizza. I'm praying the lack of meat under the layer of cheese was due to an off night. Also able to try a bite of white- excellent. Also visited the bathroom for handwashing. Restroom was kept very clean with no exposed cleaning products or lack of paper products. Single person restroom. All in all, 5/5 stars for staff friendliness and helpfulness. Food was better than most run of the mill pizza joints in Jacksonville. Restaurant and restrooms were clean with no obvious health violations in sight. Family friendly and extremely laid back. We'll see if the pizza is still good in the morning. ;) read more

What an amazing pizza place. Yes, it's all about pizza no chicken. No wings or chicken toppings but that's fine with me because that T'Rex is the bomb-diggety meat-lovers delight. We were fortunate to visit on a slower night because this place can be so busy (1/2 off beer and wine Wed) you'll make a line to get in. Great service, the cashier was genuinely nice and appeared to love working there. Happy workers means happy customers. You order at the counter then hope for a table because they frown on holding tables before you place your order but that makes sense. The pizza is fresh thick crust covered in a homemade sauce and fine quality cheese. Definitely worth checking this spot out. read more

They have quite a selection of beers on tap and in bottles...YAY! The last time we were here, we had a pie...a BIG Moon River Pie. This time we had salads and slices. The great thing about Moon River??? You can have 2 or 3 different types of pizza if you want....just buy them by the slice. I had a slice with garlic, tomato, and olives...amazing!!! But I will ask for less garlic next time. Also a slice with sliced meatball, onion, and spinach....YUMMY! This is a monthly, if not weekly, spot for our family and friends. The pizza is made to order and their selections are plentiful. Hubby loves the T-Rex which is a meat-lovers dream as it comes with ham, bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and covered in cheese. I prefer the white pizza with an addition of spinach and sometimes artichokes. The slices are large and so tasty. The calzones are huge, definitely big enough to share if you have a smaller appetite. They have a selection of salads as well, and I love the Greek salad and the fact that you can get "half-salads" so you have room for your pizza slice. The beer selection is limited, but always on point. They carry many local microbrews. Plus, the fact you can get draft at a pizza place should be a marvel by itself. The wine and beer specials in the evening are always a good deal. Parking can be hard during key dinner hours, but it's worth walking. But, parking anywhere in Murray Hill has bad parking. Went to Moon River on a whim while visiting friends in Jacksonville. Almost went to Carmine's but chose Moon River because it was slightly cheaper with slightly better reviews on Google. Being from Gainesville, I'm used to quirky restaurants; they're plentiful here. Moon River was the perfect amount of quirk and made me feel right at home. Plus, the staff was super friendly, from the wait staff to the pizza chefs, and they came around regularly to check on our drinks. Instead of being waited on at a table, you order at a counter and then pick a seat while the pizza is made. The wait staff then delivers the pizza to your table. The dining area was large with lots of tables; we didn't have to wait to find a seat, even on a busy Saturday night after the FL/GA football game. My fiance and I split a medium white pizza. I'm not kidding; this was THE best white pizza I have ever had in my life (and I've had a lot of white pizza). The combination of oil and spices was superb. I really wanted to eat the whole thing, but the medium was more than enough for us. Usually leftovers aren't as good the next day, but by some sort of moon magic, my leftovers were damn near perfect the next day. (Pop in the microwave for 1 minute, bake in the toaster oven for 5 minutes, then broil in the toaster oven for 5 minutes = perfection.) Anyway, this place is great, and I really wish they would open a store in Gainesville. Better than anticipated! I've been hearing good reviews about this place, but the reviews were few, so I was hesitant to try it. Finally, I made it! The environment is mediocre. Colorful, but meh, not my style. The staff was calm during the dinner rush and friendly and accommodating. Now, on to the real reason for this review -- the pizza. My friend and I both ordered slices of the Special Pizza (mushrooms, onions, green peppers, olives, meatball, pepperoni). So so SO good! And I'm really glad we only ordered slices. That was more than enough for the both of us. The veggies weren't as grilled as we would've liked nor were they chopped as finely as we would've hoped. I at here for the first time a week ago for lunch and was really impressed. The lunch special is a great deal, two slices of pizza and a drink for just a little over $7 with tax. The slices are large so it was plenty of food for me and my co-workers who all ordered the special as well. I came back tonight to pick up a couple of pizzas to go for dinner and was again impressed by the quality of the pizza. I got a white pizza (awesome) and one with extra cheese and bacon which was great as well. I think this will fast become my new favorite pizza place if they keep the quality as high as my two initial visits.
