A great balance of lively and peaceful. The food was delicious. De.Lic.Ious. I got the summer corn salad, perfect comfort meal. And he got the chicken wings, crispy and tender--just to die for. But what topped it all off was the service. Our server (didn't catch his name, I'm sorry!) was charming and kind as was I believe the owner/chef who brought our meals. We ordered the Oreo brownie with nutella... my god. You have to get this! And they sent out a butterscotch pudding for my birthday, too. Creamy and rich and such a meaningful gesture. I went from having a poor day to a magical one. I owe a lot to my short experience in this haven of a restaurant, despite the time I spent pouring over our entrees. Really delicious food and excellent drinks. Popped in on a quiet weeknight on a work trip. Ordered the roasted beet carmelized onion dip and it blew me away! Incredible blend of flavor, not overwhelmingly beety. Super yummy. Could eat that all day every day. Salmon poke bowl was also on point!! It was also so nice that Chef came out to deliver the dishes herself. Not sure if she does that every night or just bc it was quiet, but it was a wonderful touch. Eclectic delicious food with a warm, homey feel! I was so impressed with the profiles of the food here. Each dish has a unique flavor combination that presents a new lens on some classics. The buttermilk fried chicken wings are not to be missed -- award winning and definitely deserving. They were juicy, crunchy, and had a good zest from the poblano sauce and fresh herb toppings. **FYI** While this location opens at 5PM on the weekdays it applies to the BAR. The kitchen officially opens at 5:30PM. Stopped by on a Friday evening right when the location opened so we could look over the menu. The food we received was as follows: - Complimentary bread (includes butter with olive oil) - nothing special but better than what I've had at some other establishments. - Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings - $14 - Definitely the winner of the night. The wings were fresh, extremely tender and went well with the ranch dressing. Definitely recommended! - Mama Mei's Dirty Fried Rice - $17 (not including the $12 spicy lamb meatball add on which we got) - The flavor of the rice wasn't bad though unfortunately it was too salty. The meatballs were okay though the spice level overpowered the flavor of the meatballs. Also at $3 per meatball (we got 4 total) it was definitely not worth the cost. - Steak Frites - $26 (not including the $12 calamari and octopus add on which we got) - Steak was only okay. I thought it would be a thicker cut for the price but it was just a thin slice. Flavor wasn't bad but again, it too was over salted and because it was so thin my medium rare request was pretty much impossible (definitely was well done). The add on was also disappointing as we only got 4 pieces for $12. Flavor was okay but I wouldn't pay more than $4 for the amount we got. Overall the service was good and our drinks were always topped up. Unfortunately the quality of the food was a let down with the exception of the chicken wings. Everything else was too salty and just didn't justify the price. Parking is hit or miss depending on when you arrive. At 5pm there was some street side parking available for us. read more

The place is adorable, decorated with art by the chef/owner. Everyone we interacted with was polite and friendly and helpful. I had the chicken and waffles (love Leslie Knope) and it was divine - the buttery brown sugary topping for the waffle was amazing and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My friends had bowls which were huge portions and they enjoyed them. Old fashioned was good but I regret not getting Jell-O shots. I loved this place and would be very excited to come back. While everything we ordered was very good, my palate was just confused for most of the time. Coming from an Asian, it was hard for me to see the Asian part of the fusion other than the wonton shells! We ordered the jalapeno crab rangoons which to me tasted like jalapeno poppers just in a different form. Then for dinner we shared the chicken wings and Spanish style steak frites. As other reviewers had said, the chicken really does fall off the bone. They were delicious and fried so well, but because they fall apart so quickly you end up needing a fork to finish them. We are visiting Boston for the month and my boyfriends' brother who lives here took us to Moonshine for dinner on a Saturday night. He has been several times and always speak very highly of the chef so we were very excited to get a reservation (me especially, as an AVID Chopped TV show enthusiast :)). FOOD: We ordered a LOT of food here including the party tots, party sprouts, the bacon wrapped stuffing bites, oysters, jalapeño crab rangoon, regular grass-fed burgers, Thai crispy chicken bowl, kimchi fried rice bowl and the FRIED CHICKEN. We were told at least 2x before dinner how good the fried chicken is but I don't think we were prepared for how good it actually was! Honestly may be the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life. The chicken is so juicy and tender and the breading is perfectly seasoned and just melts in your mouth. We almost got another order because it was gone in seconds! The rest of the food was really good - everything is SUPER flavorful with lots of sauces and flavors going on (which is exactly what I like). The only subpar item we had was the regular burgers. We ordered the special month burger but think our waitress mixed it up. Otherwise: we enjoyed every bite ! SETTING: We sat outside so didn't get a good sense of the ambiance inside but it was very nice on the patio. Not too noisy, but every table was taken. SERVICE: we were a pretty large party of 5 and our waitress was great! Checked in just the right amount and efficient at handling all the tables. The chef is also running food out to the tables / generally around, checking in with guests which was really nice. One of the best restaurants I've been to! Three words to describe my experience here: intentional, friendly, comfortable! I came here with a friend for brunch as we had a gilt offer for Moonshine 152. We ordered Mimosa, Crab Egg Benedict, and "Gypsy Eggs" with the spicy tomato sauce to the side. To my surprise, the chef brought out the food to us! How awesome is that?! The food was on point - good proportions of each ingredient to perfect the overall taste. Service was great. Everyone was helpful in answering our questions and providing the information we needed about the food and how to use gilt offer. I'd definitely come back even without the gilt offer. read more

What an amazing meal! After talking to our waiter, we decided to start with the chicken wings. They were tender and absolutely delicious. I had the steak frites and my colleague has the short rib grilled cheese. Both were amazing! My steak was cooked to perfection and the frites were nice and crispy. The grilled cheese was full of tender short rib and the bread grilled to a light golden brown. The tomato soup that came with the grilled cheese was excellent, but a little too spicy for my colleague. I thought it was perfect! For desert, we were torn so we got 3! The waffle sundae, butterscotch pudding and the Oreo brownies. The waffle sundae was my favorite but all three were delicious. You can't go wrong with any of them. Asea, the chef and owner, delivered our food and made sure that everything was perfect. She is such a delight! You owe it to yourself to check this gem out. Have i really not written a review for Moonshine before? Usually we sit at the bar and get awesome service from Peter but it's 2020, the worst year ever, so we sat at the patio. Where we also got awesome service along with spicy tequila drinks, duck tacos and the dirty fried rice. Super tasty. Ended with the butterscotch pudding which they kindly split in two for us. Surprisingly delightful combination of flavors. Food I've tried: (* = my favorite) - CHARSIU DUCK TACOS ($17 - regular 2 tacos/$25 - grande tacos)*: this was the highlight of the meal. The duck was perfectly cooked, falling apart, with no trace of gaminess. The wonton crisps added beautiful contrasting of the texture, and I liked that the pieces were perfectly sized. The slaw had a citrus brightness that brought everything together. Everything was wrapped in a standard soft, taco shell. I have never had charsiu duck, and it was a good surprise. - JULY 2022 BURGER OF THE MONTH " THE RATATOUILLE BURGER"* ($23): truly loved this burger as well, a close second favorite. The patty was perfectly medium rare, not overly seasoned so you could savor the quality of the meat. It was topped with goat cheese and citrus aioli, which was a delightful combination of acidity cutting through the fattiness of the patty. The buns were toasted potato buns, with a hint of sweetness. The fries were of the perfect width and crispy - between steak fries and string fries. - SOFTSHELL CRAB STEAMED BAO BUNS ($22 - 2 buns/$33 - 3 buns): these buns are massive, each one being about the size of my fist. The bao buns are exactly as you expect. The filling is an entire fried small softshell crab, topped with slaw, and a very generous helping of pickled ginger. I liked the combination of flavors, the slaw cutting through the fattiness of the fried crab. Out of all the dishes, this dish was the most expected in terms of the flavor, but still good. One thing was in the middle of my bite, there was a disconcertingly loud crunch in my mouth, perhaps it was a piece of the fried crab (?). Nothing to cause pain and it didn't take away from the flavor, but something to note if you have dental issues. - PISTACHIO BAKLAVA CRINKLE ($11): it's not a traditional baklava, but I loved this adaptation. It is less sweet, less dense, and more flaky. If you are someone who enjoys sweetness to be a bit dialed back, this is the dish for you. Atmosphere: - There is a nice outdoor patio area as well as normal indoor seating. - I noticed there was a jukebox-type machine you could select the music for outside the bathroom. - I visited weekday 7pm and it was not crowded. Service: - Extremely friendly, they repeatedly made sure we had everything we needed. Overall: - I discovered new flavor combinations. Price is definitely worth the portion. However, I did wish that there were smaller appetizer portions offered (and correspondingly cheaper) as the appetizer size was the same as the entrees. As someone who likes trying a variety of different appetizers, I personally getting smaller, but more numerous dishes. read more

We went here with a Groupon and I would say, overall it was a good experience. Highs: No wait time, we did have a reservation but the restaurant was almost empty, early on a Saturday evening. Service with a smile. The host, our server, and the chef all were quite friendly. Some restaurants behave differently once you tell them you have a Groupon, but thankfully that didn't happen here. Most of the food was good too - the lasagna squares app really stood out, a must try! The local greens salad was yummy too, especially the crispy kale on top. Lows: The Irish curry was way too spicy. The chef did try to reduce the spice in the second attempt but it was still pretty spicy. I like that they asked us if anything was wrong and tried their best to accommodate our request. It didn't work but that's okay, it happens. What I don't appreciate is when restaurants sneak in charges. The Groupon was supposed to be $92 in value, covering 1 app, 1 salad, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. While ordering the entree, the server asked us if we'd like to add any protein to the curry. We did but apparently that's an extra charge not covered by the Groupon. That's fine but let us know beforehand, and not after I look at the bill and enquire. So even though our bill came to approx $75, we still had to pay for the "additions". read more

Can't believe I dragged my friends here from downtown and Cambridge. I had the duck noodles per waiters recommendation. Fine but small portion, minimal duck, cold noodles. The broccolini was good. My friends had the shishito peppers (not bad), and unremarkable dishes that they were ok with. Oh and we had the bill split among us and someone one friend almost ended up having to pay nearly the whole bill in addition to me and the other each paying a third. For drinks we got the executive mimosa and Long Island iced tea - both were great, but the Long Island iced tea was the favorite. For appetizers, we got the shishito peppers and cinnamon French toast sticks - the sauce on the peppers made it our favorite. If you're thinking about the French toast sticks, I would recommend get the chicken and waffles instead - the waffle is out of this world.
