Moonshine 152 had been on my list for a while ever since I saw some of the Parks & Rec inspired items, so I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. I mostly enjoyed a lot of things I had and chef Asia was very friendly. The patatas bravas and jalapeño rangoons were great starters. The patatas bravas though was my favorite, it was just salty and crispy enough with the aioli and garlic oil. Next we had the party tots and added duck to it. The ducks and tots themselves were delicious and I though the two complimented each other. But the kimchi on it was nasty, but it was easy enough to eat around it. I've been here at least a dozen times! Always delicious, always fresh, always unique specials. The appetizers are so yummy! I highly recommend the Party Brussel Sprouts. There are entrées with kimchi for a delightful crunch and zing. The veggie burger is excellent and I think it might be mushroom-based because it's so savory. Don't overlook the amazing butterscotch pudding for dessert; this is NOT from a box! This is what restaurants should be. The food is great, the drinks are great, the people are better. Asia Mei has created an amazing venue. She attracts and keeps a good crowd, so that you feel good when you're there. People talk to each other. The staff seem genuinely engaged and happy to be there. I've been there at least a dozen times and every time, Asia delivers food to the table, even tho (or because!) she's the owner and chef. Nothing gets by the pass without her seeing it. And she'll visit at the table once she delivers the food, if that's your thing. But if you don't feel like visiting, you'll never know that the food runner is one of the best things to ever happen to the Southie. Food. A fusion sort of thing. The best fried chicken wings evah. (Just order them. You'll be glad I insisted.) The fried rice -- Mama's recipe. So good! Bowls and apps and even steak frite. So many things that it's hard to keep track. The menu changes. But not so much that you won't find comfort and elegance here. Drink. Very good mixologists. The kind that remember you, even if names are unnecessary. I asked for a specific cocktail (that time the power was out at my place and I wasn't going home to the dark) and the bartender googled it and listened to my preference and made a killer version. My next visit, he remembered. The most recent visit -- the place was jamming -- and he nodded to me from the other end of the bar as if to say, "I got you." And that's Moonshine 152. They got you. The deets... it's very close to the Broadway stop in the MBTA Red Line, so close that there's really no reason not to go to Moonshine. But if you insist, there's parking on street if you're clever or good. (Nobody is both.) They take reservations but you don't always need them. They love finding a place for you. They have a long very comfy bar, a bunch of two and four-hightops, booths along two sides, and a dedicated built-in legit pre-pandemc patio. I've spent a few afternoons there in the rain and sun -- comfortably protected by the big umbrellas. During pandemic (and maybe going forward? who knows!) they added picnic benches outside along Dot Ave. BTW, Asia is always doing really altruistic community stuff like teaching scouts how to cook or something. If you live anywhere near Moonshine 152, this spot is a must!! Chef Asia Mai is truly a culinary artist, and one of the best server/host you could ask for. Really just an all around great human being. Everything my wife and I had were incredible! The seasonal baby carrot soup is the most delicious soup my wife and I had experienced to date. Probably ever. If it is still on the menu by the time you read this, get it. If not, ask when it will be back, because you NEED to try it. Be sure to reserve a table since the restaurant is fairly small. Outside dining is an option. Chef Asia Mai's artwork is displayed throughout, giving it a unique atmosphere. Bottom line, do not look over this incredible restaurant. The dishes we had could have been priced higher and still worth it. Thank you Chef Asia Mai for a truly unforgettable experience! I recommend making a reservation because we got there 5 minutes early for our 11:30 am reservation on a Sunday, and there were 3 other parties waiting to get in when they opened the door. The tables seemed to fill up quickly. Food and drinks were delicious - especially the fried chicken! The chicken was super flavorful and tender it literally fell off the bone. And they were so generous to send us a dessert with a candle for my husband's birthday. The bread pudding was awesome! read more

We pounced on our orders, so tempting and textured and tasty were they. Cauliflower tacos were especially good with the curry coating the veggies and the little crunchies that Chef Asia told us were "tempura crunchies". Patatas Bravas we're hot and crispy and heaped with basily garlicky goodness. Party sprouts (Brussels) were nicely done though of our three items it was the least taste bud tittilater. After seeing the chef on tv, we were excited to try Moonshine 152 on my next visit to Boston. The menu looked creative and delicious, and reviews were good. Unfortunately this review isn't for the food or atmosphere, since they left a voicemail message to cancel our reservation on us with one week's notice. We had booked the reservation months ago, and they claimed a "conflict with the reservation system" was the cause. No solutions were offered, just a message telling us they were sadly not honoring the reservation. They wanted me to call them back at my earliest convenience. Sure, I'll get right on that... Nice place! First, service was great! Everyone was really friendly. Unfortunately, I showed up, at first, during the break between lunchtime and dinnertime, so they were closed and had to leave and come back. So, I ran an errand and returned a few hours later. I specifically went there because they have butterscotch pudding on the menu, which I've been craving for a few days. But, the pudding was disappointing. On first look, I thought that it looked like artificially flavored pudding mix. After tasting it, I was sure it was pudding mix, but tried to power through because I really wanted some butterscotch pudding. Ultimately, I just couldn't do it. Not worth the calories and sugar intake. Just didn't taste good. Good thing it wasn't the only thing I had. Otherwise, this rating would be no stars. The tacos tasted good, but they were $18 for two tacos. That's my fault, since I did see the price before I ordered. Loved the eclectic selection of dishes at this up-and-coming Southie restaurant! I typically dislike Asian fusion dishes, but their unique offerings were actually quite amazing. My friends and I came for brunch and sat at the outdoor patio. I appreciated how they are taking COVID seriously, with the tables appropriately distanced from each other and with hand sanitizers stationed at every corner. They charge $3 for a side of hot sauce. Wasn't notified until the bill came. Also we were here to celebrate a friend's birthday and they charge $3-4 to cut cake. Google should specify or under hours. Food served limited hours. Came in between 3:30pm-4pm and had to wait at the bar until kitchen reopened. The chicken wings are a must try. They have their own aioli that comes with the wings. Nothing else needed. Due to the chef being creative. They do not have Mayonnaise. They have an aioli which they serve if you request Mayo or ranch. Was not pleased with that response. As I was not told they did not have Mayo. I was just brought the aioli. Here solely to review chef Asia's famous veggie burger. It seems like most places these days that have a veggie burger on the menu are going to have beyond burgers or impossible burgers. I do not like those burgers at all. It's not what I personally am looking for in a vegetarian or vegan burger. To me both of those brands taste incredibly processed and just generally bad. Chef Asia's veggie burger is so delicious. The first time I had it I think I ordered it three times in that week! They were able to swap out the aioli for vegan mayo which I really appreciated. The potato bun that it comes on is perfect and I really liked the dressing on the side salad as well. it's definitely an umami bomb, very mushroom forward which I love. Moonshine 152 was for us, an incidental finding where we tried to find a restaurant that was somewhere between where my friends and I were staying. Looking for a quick hangout spot, we instead found a gem that had both delicious drinks, Jell-O shots, and an Asian fusion menu that was both imaginative and impressive. Across the board, we enjoyed both our appetizers and entrees. Being a smaller restaurant, the chef actually brought out our entrees and later checked on us and how the meal was going personally. The food was phenomenal. I've never liked cold soup, but the beet soup was amazing. It had some very complex flavors, but they all blended beautifully together. The tofu mushroom burger is one of the best veggie patties I've ever had (and as a vegetarian, I've eaten my fair share!). I was super full and just kept eating the butterscotch pudding because it was so good. The outside patio is perfect for warm summer nights (and has really nice flowers and string lights!). All of the servers were very polite and helpful. Dinner was such a nice end to a long day of traveling. read more

It was pretty small but they had a super cute outdoor seating area as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my food here! We ordered the patatas bravas as an appetizer and it was really tasty, especially with the aioli and garlic oil. For my entree I got the brunch style pulled pork scallion pancake quesadilla~ such a mouthful, in both ways!! I absolutely loved this. Yes, it was heavy but all the flavors of the pulled pork, teriyaki, and sweet chili glaze, just mixed together so perfectly. I would highly recommend and would absolutely come back to get it again! It was just so different and not something I'd seen before. My only small complaint was that the food took a while to come out. It almost seemed as if there was one woman cooking everything in the back cuz she was the only one bringing food out... But nevertheless, everything was still delicious and enjoyable. Odd choice for brunch you might say but then you eat one and realize it is what you have been craving all this time. Next time you wake up in the middle of the night stop and consider and you'll see. These wantons are what your missing. I moved on to the steak and eggs. I love a good steak and eggs for brunch but always worry about ordering it. 10000 ways to go wrong and so few ways to go right. Moonshine nailed it. The skirt steak was thick enough to still get a char and remain rare on the inside. No shoe leather here. I had a Sunday brunch with a friend at Moonshine 152 after getting rave reviews from other foodie friends. Sadly, their reviews didn't match what we experienced. This small restaurant is in Southie near Broadway Station. Plan ahead regarding parking. The decor was confusing and the outside patio littered with fake flowers even more so. It's a cute little spot, they just need to choose a genre and stick with it the little bit of kitsch meets modern isn't working. Service was quick and friendly. We ordered the Shine's Bloody Mary, Tater Tot Poutine, Shine's Southie Corned Beef Hash, and Leslie Knope's Fried Chicken and Waffles. The Bloody Mary was the best thing ordered. I loved the tangy taste of the kimchi in there. The poutine was flavorful we loved the sausage in it but the lack of cheese curds was disappointing. It appears that they used mozzarella as the "white cheese" listed in the menu. It just made things messy once the cheese hardened. The chicken and waffles that we were served was a shock to the wallet at $27. One tiny greasy waffle (think of a Dash waffle iron size) and a couple pieces of dried fried chicken. The corned beef hash is was not what I would call a "Southie proud" dish. The eggs were perfectly cooked and I thought the runny yolky goodness could save this dish but alas it could not. The potatoes were undercooked, too big and lacked the flavor. It was like the potatoes were parboiled and lightly sautéed with a teeny bit or salt and pepper. The corned beef was scant and I was served mostly fat and gristle, that in addition to having zero flavor. The beer bread was okay but I was too disappointed to enjoy it. The chef, who served everyone their meals, tried to address our concerns. The main meals were taken off our bill. I'm not in a hurry to return. I was so looking forward to some Asian fusion genius but left disappointed. Definitely go for the Bloody Mary though, the bartender is throwing it down. read more

We came to Boston for a few days from California and I found Moonshine 152 right here on Yelp. Wow.... This is a fantastic restaurant! The ambiance is casual: lots of booths, large group tables in the middle of the room, and a large bar with tv's showing sports (but there wasn't a "sports bar" feel which I liked, you could dine and talk easily). The service was great: the server who sat us and our server were both friendly and attentive. The food was OUTSTANDING: the party tots live in my dreams still! The Asian twist on the menu is perfectly done. We got to meet Asia who is the owner, chef, and the artist responsible for all of the beautiful art on the walls. I recently had a great first experience at Moonshine. I was tasked with finding reservations for a party of 14 people (co-workers) in less than a week's time. Moonshine came through on all fronts. First, when I called to see if they could accommodate the large party, they got back to me same day. They made the process extremely easy and for that I was grateful, as I don't even live in the Boston area. When we arrived, they had a huge center spot ready for us and were very attentive to our needs the entire time. They gave us the right amount of time to look at menu's as they first took drink orders, then app orders, and finally entrees. The pacing of the food coming out to the table was also spot on. As for the food, everyone at the table found something they liked and all agreed that what they chose was delicious. On my side, I was specifically interested in Moonshine because they had a couple options that could be made vegan. I ended up having one of the salads (the crispy kale was incredible) and the mushroom tofu burger made vegan, which was also very good. On top of all that, Moonshine was close to our office so we'll definitely be coming back soon. read more

On the plus side, I observed the are that goes into making the mixed drinks. Very tasty! I noticed a small but well put together tap list but was not opting for beer on this trip. Came here with my friends for my birthday and Moonshine did not disappoint we left full-bellied and ready to party. Moonshine does fusion and they do it well! They also do a (I think seasonal) special jello shot of which of course my friends bought me to try to start the night. Started with some Party Sprouts and while I have never had the tots, I am still going to claim the tots are where it's at! They may cost more but they are 100% worth it and we could not have cleared this plate faster. Almost ordered a second. We also split an order of the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings - these wings were amazing. So crisp. A perfect mix of American and Korean Fried Chicken and these wings were fat! My friend and I also shared an order of the Throwback Korean BBQ Tacos, I'll admit this - this was my least favorite dish. It was too Americanized in that it tasted like sweet chili or sweet and sour sauce with that overly sweet flavor rather than Korean. The ginger aioli and pear kimchi are great but the meat itself was covered in that fake, overly sweet sauce. My one friend ordered the Hawaiian Poke Rice Bowl - I had a taste and it was done really well. For my main I got a half order of the Pork Meatball Noodle Soup - I'm not seeing it on the menu anymore but I hope they haven't taken it off menu! It is a really authentic tasting meatball (like Chinese Lion's Head) in a sweet & savory broth with perfectly cooked rice noodles. Amazing highly recommend. My boyfriend took me here for a surprise birthday dinner after a dreary day at work; it was the best thing that could have happened. Beautiful atmosphere with beautiful artwork. A great balance of lively and peaceful. The food was delicious. De.Lic.Ious. I got the summer corn salad, perfect comfort meal. And he got the chicken wings, crispy and tender--just to die for. But what topped it all off was the service. Our server (didn't catch his name, I'm sorry!) was charming and kind as was I believe the owner/chef who brought our meals. Really delicious food and excellent drinks. Popped in on a quiet weeknight on a work trip. Ordered the roasted beet carmelized onion dip and it blew me away! Incredible blend of flavor, not overwhelmingly beety. Super yummy. Could eat that all day every day. Salmon poke bowl was also on point!!
