The only thing that I was not impressed with was the lack of any chef's touches on the oh-toro and amberjack sushi pieces. I get showcasing the fish, but it doesn't take much to enhance the flavor of the showcased fish. The fish was still good due to the quality. We had and enjoyed all of the following: edamame, whitefish carpaccio, tuna pizza, California roll, kani sushi, hamachi tacos. Hamachi tacos and Cali roll were the standouts of that group for me. The soufflé cheesecake was ridiculously good! I like the remodel, especially the new logo outside and sushi bar art. I've been a fan of Iron Chef for a long, long time. Chef Morimoto has been a food hero of mine forever, which actually made it a little tough to walk into his restaurant and not just totally fanboy out. I kept my cool, though, and took the experience at face value. The atmosphere greeted me with its wide-open space and moody, shadowed lighting--my photos really capture that cool use of dark corners and pops of color. Our waiter, Truman, was so friendly and warm, and he pointed us toward some incredible recommendations. I started with the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, and from there, the night just got better and better. Morimoto Las Vegas, located inside the MGM Hotel on the southern end of the Strip (south of Planet Hollywood and across from New York-New York), has always held a special place in my memory. My first visit was almost ten years ago, and it was unforgettable in the best way. So when we planned a Thanksgiving-week trip, I called weeks in advance to book a reservation--only to find the restaurant closed for renovations. To my surprise and delight, it reopened just days after we arrived in Vegas. Perfect timing! We were able to snag a reservation for our large party of nine, and from the moment we sat down, it felt like the Morimoto experience I remembered. I was starving after a long day of travel and, honestly, the place is a bit too upscale for me to be snapping hundreds of food photos--so apologies in advance for the lack of photos. Food: Overall, the food was spectacular. Exactly what you'd expect from Morimoto. Karaage: Good, but not the best. (I actually think Jinya Ramen's karaage edges it out.) Black Braised Cod: Absolutely phenomenal. This is a must-have dish. Yellowtail Salad & Yellowtail Roll: Mind-blowingly good. I think yellowtail may officially be my new favorite raw fish now. More to come on yellowtail. Laksa Noodles: I had sky-high hopes because it was perfection on my first visit years ago. This time, it was very good--just not the life-changing dish I remembered. Maybe my standards are too high? Tempura Calamari Salad: Delicious and well executed. Yellowtail Fried Rice (buri bop in Stone Pot): The star of the night! If you try one thing here, make it this. Then come back the next day and get it again. Insanely good. Everyone at my table was raving about it. Dessert: I normally skip desserts at fancy restaurants because I'm either full or financially defeated by that point, but we made exceptions and were glad we did. Soufflé Cheesecake: Light, fluffy, and delicate. If dense New York-style cheesecake isn't your thing, this will be. Fiery Chocolate Tart: Worth it for both the taste and the 15 seconds of tableside entertainment. The chocolate melts dramatically to reveal an incredibly rich center. Service: Our server was excellent--warm, knowledgeable, and professional without being over-the-top. I don't recall her name, but I'm fairly sure she was Korean (she gave me Esther Choi from Food Network vibes). She handled our large table flawlessly and made the experience even better. Ambiance: Upscale but welcoming, and perfect for a special night out. Definitely not too loud so easy to have a conversation. Final Thoughts: If you're in Las Vegas and craving top-tier Japanese cuisine, Morimoto is absolutely worth a visit--just be prepared for the bill. This is not a budget-friendly meal by any stretch, so make sure your credit card limit is ready for the challenge! Would I go again for a third time? Absolutely without a doubt. This place was average. I came in having pretty high expectations as he's one of the iron chefs. Will give grace as he was not specifically the one making my food. We had the miso soup, which is comparable to other restaurants. Also had the wygu appetizer which was pretty good. Then had the Brussels sprouts, which was pretty good. We came here for Friday night dinner. It was packed and we didn't have a reservation but we got a seat at the bar right away. Jonathan was awesome. He was worked hard to make sure we were good even though all his seats were full. We ordered one of the higher end sakes, very sweet and smooth. Don't be fooled it's pretty strong so be careful if you're a lightweight. We ordered the asparagus to share and I really liked how they used some thicker stems and also added some crunchy breading. My friend ordered the filet mignon medium rare and it was so sweet and tasty, done just right. I ordered the salmon and it was also delicious. I loved the somewhat crunchy skin they kept on and the moist body. They added some sweet small boba and a nice thick white sauce. The prices were expensive but well worth it. They also had a live DJ dressed in a cute outfit and playing some good Japanese and Korean music. The decor was eclectic. Overall a great experience. read more

SO DELISH! Although this was not our first visit to one of Iron Morimoto's restaurants, this was our first visit to this location. And let me tell you, Chef did it again with this Vegas gem. Located in MGM Grand, Morimoto is amazing in both service and food. We stopped in for an early dinner before a concert, and everything and everyone was spectacular. Our water was refilled before we even drank half a glass...lol! But as for the food, we started off with edamame, pork gyoza, and pork belly konji...YUMMY! The treat was that they made special for us a round of foie gras nigiri...fantastic!! We also enjoyed the foie gras oysters. Sorry geese but they were lovely. Yellow tail on rice was wonderful...there may have also been a sea bass with foie gras too. A lot of food. Service was friendly. Ambiance was a combo of hipster with trashy Vegas. The group next to us was loud, meth looking, a drunk. Not classy at all. Wine list was surprisingly pedestrian although we did enjoy the 4 round sake flight. Since we were going to share a lot of dishes, the service immediately set the tone by being attentive, patient, and helpful with suggestions. To allow everyone to sample a little bit of everything, we placed a family-style order. One of the first dishes to arrive was the wagyu beef carpaccio, which set the standard right away. It was flavorful, delicate, and rich without being overpowering. The hamachi tacos and tuna pizza were also popular, especially when shared; they were quick, light, and enjoyable snacks. We also ordered the pork belly and sticky ribs, which added a savory, slightly decadent element to the menu and effectively counterbalanced the raw dishes. We chose the duck fried rice for something heartier, and it turned out to be the night's comfort food--warm, tasty, and ideal for piling onto everyone's plates. I first dined at Morimoto (Vegas) years ago - walked in, sat at the sushi bar, had some great sushi, remember it very fondly. I haven't been back until last week and exactly one week later (tonight.) (Incidentally I've been to Morimoto Orlando several times and have very mixed feelings about that place, but the Laksa I had years ago was better than the Laksa in Vegas...) The drinks were good, the dessert was good, but the sushi last week absolutely floored me. It was as good as anything I've had in Tokyo. (We ordered the Omakase sushi set for 2). Absolutely mind-blowingly great fish - I couldn't stop thinking about it for a week. So we returned tonight to try the kitchen out. The kitchen is very good. The sushi bar is kind of taking focus away from the hot and cold dishes though... The sticky ribs were very very good. I wish they had some "more" flavor or spice or something. I don't know what that should be (five spice or something?) but preparation was great. I would like more than three per order. The clam miso was very very good. The miso itself was excellent (I assume there's a blend of different misos going on here.) The clams still had a few stones in them and I nearly chipped my tooth on one. I was VERY excited about the black cod - it was a lot larger than I expected (normally a good thing but maybe not in this case) and it was unfortunately overcooked. Not _bad_ mind you, just not as tender as it should have been given the price of the dish. This actually really bothered me the most about the meal. The toro tartare presentation is spectacular. But it distracts you from the fact that the quantity of the tuna is miniscule and I'm not sure it was _as_ fresh as the toro we had last week. The kimchi fried rice was actually my favorite dish tonight (I was originally expecting it to be black cod or sticky ribs) - flavors really well developed, quality and texture of rice really high. But the soft boiled egg served in it was cold... this is a pet peeve of mine that drives me nuts about ramen spots, but Morimoto's price point is WAYYYY higher than the ramen spots that do this. Come on guys, please figure out how to warm your eggs up before you serve them. The NA yuzu ginger soda was actually _GREAT_. I've had similar before; this one was absolutely on balance and delicious (and would be great with alcohol as well.) We did order one thing from the sushi bar tonight - a tiger roll - which honestly might be the best one I've ever had. The quality of the fish was once again spectacular; the thing that really struck me was the _texture_ of the entire bite. Absolutely smooth and delicate and delicious. It is a *$48* roll though - that's absurd even for high end sushi. But I could find _nothing_ wrong with it. Again, I think the sushi bar is outpacing the kitchen here. Service is very friendly and attentive yet not overbearing. The space is absolutely gorgeous. I wish the hot and cold dishes were stronger. They seem like they should be spectacular on paper but they can't quite seem to match up with what the sushi bar is putting out. And I am not necessarily complaining here - it's just that for a restaurant like this and _FOR THE PRICE_ I would expect things to be a little better executed. I enjoyed the food and I'm sure I'll be back at some point but there are just so many other great places in this town. I do hope someone sees this and takes notes - I want them to be _AMAZING_ all of the time. First off, I grew up watching Iron Chef Japan as a kid and Masaharu Morimoto was one of my idols, so being able to eat at his new restaurant was a dream come true. The entrance and ambiance were beautiful, with lots of Japanese street photography and neon lighting. The lamps at each table provided a special lighting that candles wouldn't have been able to give. My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVED the food. Our favorites were definitely the Tiger Roll and Chicken Karaage. We were also recommended trying our favorite nigiri at least once (it's only one piece per order, not the usual 2 that you would get at a regular sushi restaurant). We finished the night with the Dessert Bento Box. Literally everything about it blew our mind, from the presentation to the flavors of each dessert. We literally melted to the taste of each one. I had the taki yaki maki roll (or however they spelled it) with octopus and is lightly deep fried... YIKES! it was basic white girl from America underneath a sauce that tasted like Big Mac sauce. Good but not delicious. We also got the king crab -- I was looking forward to this so very much as it was well reviewed. Unfortunately, it was ruined with the mayo based, "Big Mac" from McDonalds sauce. King Crab needs so very little-- the greens were perfect on top. Lastly, we got the Kemchi Rice-- hardly any kemchi so we ask for a side and it came chopped finely like coleslaw and hardly any spice or flavor. Yuck. Anyhow, this is one restaurants I would likely not come to again. If I came again, I'd specifically ask for Cathy the bartender and try to sit at the bar with her. He would like to add that he recommends asking for teriyaki sauce on the side to enhance the duck fried rice experience. Saw the ad for this restaurant and decided to make a reservation. It took about ten minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Our server Prince was personable and attentive. Started with pork sticky ribs. Nice char to give it a little crunch on the outside. Tender on the inside. Settled in on hibis-kiss and the zen for drinks. My hibis-kiss was a punch to my mouth kick and woke me up for sure. Definitely needed. So many sushi choices and we ended up selecting a 'regular' roll of spicy tuna. Then added the tiger roll and salmon jalapeño roll. The spicy tuna roll was good. Nothing special. The tiger roll better. I don't know that I tased the shrimp tempura but the whole combo worked. The star of the night was the salmon jalapeño roll. Smooth and silky. The spicy mayo and ginger aioli sauce didn't overwhelm but enhanced the taste of the salmon. It was delicious. To the point that we're still talking about it this morning. Ended the meal with a soufflé cheesecake. It was good but I wasn't impressed. The accompanying ice with orange cream on top (maybe) was the best part of the dessert for me. Cool chips with a slight orange flavor. The bar has been set high for meals. We would come again. There were a number of large groups of people and a handful of couples that dined in. There were plenty of open tables. The decor felt sleek and had a cool aesthetic. My friend recommended ordering a bunch of sides because she's enjoyed them in the past. We ordered the tuna tacos, carpaccio, pork, sticky ribs, brussels sprouts, duck fried rice, and pork chop. My favorites were the carpaccio and duck fried rice. The food was pretty tasty but salty at times. We had to ask them to heat up the pork chop because it wasn't fully cooked through. However, our server was really kind and took it back but it still didn't taste that phenomenal after cooking. They kindly offered to comp it. The service was pretty quick and our server was very friendly. We had a group of men sitting next to us who hit on us during dinner and kept making comments which kind of affected the atmosphere but we humored them. It is Vegas after all. read more
