This place has the best breakfast burritos in town as far as I know. We order it regular with bacon, pesto and avocado. Their breakfast sandwiches are also delicious. They are so fresh, full of flavor and well balanced in terms of ingredient dispersement. It also has a very relaxing atmosphere and the owner and the employees are warm and welcoming. read more

I am so happy we stopped here. While on vacation, we had been steered to many a local coffee place for "good" coffee and were disappointed every time. Our experience here was exactly the opposite. Good smells of freshly baked goodies emanated from the tiny kitchen as we walked in. We had stopped for a cuppa Joe before hitting the road, but we ultimately ended up plopping down in some chairs, sipping our coffee, sharing a superb peanut butter cookie, and listening to some very mellow music. I did not let Mr. B drag me back out to the car until I had also acquired a cinnamony peach muffin and a schoolhouse ranger cookie in case of an emergency. You just never know when you need something like that. They were fabulous, by the way, and luckily the emergency never happened. The coffee is fair trade. I really liked his brews this morning, a decaf Sumatra, a medium Papua New Guinea, and a bold, dark brew from Central America whose name I forget. There was also a flavored coffee, hazelnut. Being able to serve yourself from the pump thermoses made it easy to concoct my own custom blend with great results. And it was super hot. Absolutely no complaints. Rodney was manning the counter and identified himself as the baker, coffee maker, cleaner upper, plant waterer, and owner. A friendly but shy kinda guy, he made us feel welcome. I have to offer my apologies to Rodney. I took copious pictures of his little coffee haven, with him included, and all but one did not download properly. Lost. Gone. They were great, btw. Bummer. This small coffee stop is barely noticeable and is off the little downtown main drag. Sadly, so easily missed. If you are getting on the Hwy 1 on-ramp leaving Morro Bay, you just passed it. In this day and age of business in California dropping like flies from the Covid shutdowns and insane inflation, you would think that a business owner would have some appreciation for its clients. Not so here. I walked in to see what they had to offer, the owner could not be bothered to even say 1- word to me, no good morning, can I help you .....nothing! I selected some of the meager baked items form the display, without a single word , he put them in a bag took my payment, turned his back and walked away. I am a business owner myself and would not only not treat my clients that way but would reprimand any of my staff that acted like they hated their job and our clients who are the life blood of our business. Couldn't make a latte for his life and just literally yelled out order and left on counter and I was the only customer in the place. 1 star is too generous. We went out of our way to support a local spot. Owner/server wasn't bothered to greet us. Coffee was bland and and the food was horrible. I get the description says "Tomato Bagel" but even my dog could slap a couple of leaves of basil on there and make it somewhat appetizing. Everything went in the trash and we found another spot. I've been coming here since it first opened when two women (and one mom) who worked at Kelley's in Cayucos first opened it. Since then they sold it to the owners of Chablis Cruises who feature dinner/wine while on the protected estero known as Morro Bay (plus a silent partner sister who I think is in Annapolis one of my old stomping grounds). Addressing the points made by some of the negative posters: 1. Service. When the new owners first reopened they and their family were here a lot. Not anymore. Even when they weren't here there were at least 2 Barrista's on shift. Their strategy has changed. Top Dog and the Rock down on Main are the popular hangouts for locals. And that's how you make money in this or any economy by becoming rad for the locals. The tourists typically love places like that especially those from the megalopolii. To save money they hire younger HS \ early college age with little to no experience, but leave them twisting without a more experienced partner. Part of being a bartender (yes, even coffee) is to put on a bit of a show. Be front and center encouraging conversation, etc. while working. Yes, it's hard but you get better tips. Needless to say the more talented Barrista's learn this quickly and move on to better jobs rapidly. Rapid turnover certainly hurts this business. 2. Coffee, food, etc. Still good. Was far better before, they've drastically reduced what they offer. Have to wonder if they are trying to sell the business and bail. The original owners (one is recently deceased) built this business on their personalities and quality goods. But both were a bit flakey as many of us are when we are so young. That aspect of the business is gone. Instead it's manned by kids who must sink or swim. It's not their fault and all that I've met try very hard to succeed. read more

Spent the weekend in Morro Bay to visit the beach and walk around this cute little town and had the best time! This place was perfect for a quick tasty breakfast. The coffee was amazing, the cinnamon coffee muffin was crispy and perfect with any coffee, and the egg white bagel was also super delicious and buttery. Would definitely recommend!! This is a great lil coffee place and they make great coffee. I usually have great service but today around 8am they have a guy that is just the most rudest person for customer service. He made a coffee without following up in the request with no foam, and asked him to remove the foam. He did and gave it back with an attitude plus the lid was not on right so when I walked away it the cup slipped off the lid and into the floor!!! He then screamed "Go back to the valley!" So rude. Early stormy morning today and came here to pick up some coffee. Walked in and got immediate help, tall coffee for myself. Kind of cool how they had 5 different kinds one of which included a decaf, coffee I had was a dark roast and it was dark with nice depth. Out of every coffee place this is the first one I've actually say enjoyed the storm and did nothing, was very relaxing inside had nice music going. My coffee was very fragrant, fresh tasting, and very organic. In my coffee drinking experiences, I found that most organic places tend to have sour tasting coffee. This was not the exception though. I liked that the coffee was only mildly sour. My only 2 requests are: 1) that they have splenda ( I like it better than stevia because it gives me dry mouth) ans 2) it weird to get coffee dispensed through a self-serve pump. I am having a hard time rating Morro Bay Coffee Company because, while I enjoyed their products, I feel that the service needs some attention. The woman working behind the counter took my order in a begrudging manner, and made me feel as though my ordering a beverage was actually a hindrance. Needless to say, that alone effected the atmosphere dramatically and made me uneasy. Another issue that came to my attention was that while she finished with my drink, she reached into the sink and used a dirty spoon for the final mixing of my beverage. That is something I view as a red light in any culinary experience. We used to enjoy stopping here for a cup of coffee and a snack while riding our bikes through Morro Bay. We stopped in today on a ride to Cayucos and were surprised how much the business has changed since our last visit. The business is located adjacent to a busy street and Hwy 1 but the previous owner had created a lovely garden and an outside seating area that obscured the fact that traffic was nearby. The garden and gravel pathways are now full of weeds and not maintained, giving the business a shabby look that is not attractive. We did go inside for coffee but left when the coffee carafe was empty and the counter person did not seem to be too concerned about replacing the carafe in a timely manner. We live in the area so we'll keep an eye on the business but probably will not return until some effort is made to make the business more attractive from the curbside. read more

We read about acidic coffee at Top Dog, so decided to give this place a go. Having just had amazing coffee in SF, the standards were high. Being spoiled by consistently excellent coffee back home in Australia, we really struggle to find places where beans are ground within a minute of the coffee being made, where milk is steamed to micro-foam smoothness... Once again, regardless of my efforts to plan ahead for my vacation, and a client dropped a bomb of a deadline RIGHT on my time off. It's important to get away, to get rest and relaxation. Vacation time... or even just 'non-work' time is like oiling the cogs of the machinery of the psyche. All I have to say is... thank god for laptops. And I'm equally thankful for the small local coffee shops with free WiFi that are scattered across the country like beacons of light. Safe harbors for road warriors like me, havens of warmth and invisible waves of digital signal that enable me to both stay caffeinated and remain connected to my business, even if it's for fifteen or twenty minutes here and there during my vacation time. A lot can happen in those fifteen or twenty minutes, like a simple reply to reassure a nervous client that all is well and on schedule. I'm camping this weekend with my family in Morro Bay. I headed into town to look for a pet shop. Something made me take a right on Morro Bay Blvd. Something else kept me on the road four blocks farther than I thought I'd find a pet store. Lo and behold, the Morro Bay Coffee Company must have been broadcasting a beacon of java and wireless accessibility that some unknown part of my brain keyed into, like an antenna on an old radio. I headed in and the cute gals working here made a pretty sweet double espresso. They offer juices and other bottled beverages, as well as what looked like tasty baked goods (I just ate a camp breakfast, so nothing to eat for me). My trusty Mac laptop connected into the wireless immediately, and I was able to check in to make sure weekend development is running smoothly for my delivery Monday. And, of course, write this review. My only complaint? The prices seemed just a bit on the expensive side, in the range of Starbucks. However, for the quality of the coffee? A 2.5 star would describe this place perfectly. I've been here three or four times now, but twice I've dealt with the same guy at the counter. Both of those times I gave him a friendly "hello" and on both occasions he's said absolutely nothing. Open your mouth you mute. Speaking and greeting people is part of the food service business. I really like this place for a few reasons. 1) The espresso is really good. It is not burnt and has a very creamy taste. 2) There are always people there, but you do not have to wait long. They are prompt with orders and it is really nice to be away from downtown and get in and out. Not having to find parking is a plus! 3) The staff can be hit or miss. I, personally, love Taylor. She is the sweetest and knows my order by heart. I have had a few issues ordering sandwiches there due to wanting a BLT (used to be on the menu) but for some reason one of the girls was always adamant about not making one even when it was on the menu! Either way, they all make a good coffee and that is usually the only thing I am there for. Overall, quick, prompt service with a smile. And if you get Taylor, you are in for a treat! 4) The gentleman owner is always kind and says hello, even though he is always busy. I appreciate the 'stop and say hi' approach.
