In addition to a great tasting mocha, they whipped me up a wonderful omelette w a toasted croissant. It has now become my go to whenever I'm back here in Morro Bay. I really like this place for a few reasons. 1) The espresso is really good. It is not burnt and has a very creamy taste. 2) There are always people there, but you do not have to wait long. They are prompt with orders and it is really nice to be away from downtown and get in and out. Not having to find parking is a plus! 3) The staff can be hit or miss. I, personally, love Taylor. She is the sweetest and knows my order by heart. I have had a few issues ordering sandwiches there due to wanting a BLT (used to be on the menu) but for some reason one of the girls was always adamant about not making one even when it was on the menu! Either way, they all make a good coffee and that is usually the only thing I am there for. Overall, quick, prompt service with a smile. And if you get Taylor, you are in for a treat! 4) The gentleman owner is always kind and says hello, even though he is always busy. I appreciate the 'stop and say hi' approach. Having lived in Morro Bay in the early 90's (went to Cuesta/Poly), I remember when this space was something else, and then when it first opened as a cute coffee house by the prior owners, many years later. Of course, it's now owned by the fine people who operate Chablis wine-tasting cruises down by the Harbor. Whenever I'm passing through Morro Bay, this is a no-brainer for mochas/espresso/capps to wistfully wile away some time. The drinks are tasteful and satisfying, the views are plaintive, the vibe is laid back in a manner that only sleepy little MB offers, and which keeps city folks coming back for more decompression therapy. That doesn't mean sacrifices on the high-tech end, either: they offer free FAST (20 mbps) wi-fi here, without any of those pesky timed sessions that give intermittent disconnects. So drag that laptop along on your vacay, if you really can't break free of that need to be connected (AKA internet addiction. I confess to having that monkey on my back: I don't even get the "one week of sobriety" key-chain from IAA, thanks to THIS review! You guys OWE me a big one for this, as I GIVE and I GIVE sooooo much for you all)! Someone mentioned in a prior review the landscaping not being maintained? Say what? I'm looking out the window right now, and it looks like the typical drought-tolerant xeriscaping encouraged by local cities. Look at those pretty golden hills up close and you'll see it's dried grass: they appear barren and dry for a reason, since the area just doesn't get that much rain. As far as customer service, things have definitely improved from the "dark ages" in the recent past (I see mentioned in the other reviews). Every morning I've been here for the past week, there's been a steady stream of customers who get a genuinely warm greeting from the friendly owner (Rodney), and fast service. Many are locals, and I've vicariously caught up on the local chit-chat, thanks to some judicious eaves-dropping (don't worry: your name didn't come up). But none of that pretentious "we're better than you" sneering or elitism attitude to be found at "other" coffee houses, just a relaxing experience. Thanks! read more

I love this coffee shop! I came here today for my first time and was warmly greeted with a big smile by the cashier/barista Aja. The coffee shop was filled with their regulars and I immediately felt welcomed into the environment. The playful banter between the employees and customers was so fun to see. This is exactly the type of experience I was looking for. Aja made me a delicious coffee while multitasking the register and managing the other customers. I don't know how she manages to do it all, but she did! I also ordered a grilled everything bagel which was delicious. If you're looking for a small coffee shop with a Cheers vibe, this place is it!! And in rebuttal of the Latte factor phenomenon that frankly, I don't see sweeping the nation any time soon, my daily coffee is a mere $2.00 The entire place is sheer delight. The landscape, the dog-friendly ambiance, the local art, the music, the entire staff is completely friendly, the freshly baked and calorie free delights are savory and their namesake--the actual coffee--is the best!. okay, the baked goods are in fact not calorie free, but completely worth an extra sit-up or two,. We were in town for one night and we read on YELP that they had coffee on tap- how can I say no to that??!! It was a 10 minute drive from our hotel. It's quaint little shop (like the rest of Morro Bay - which I am completely in love with) with a lot of variety. I got the coffee with nitros and the batista recommended the berry scone. I usually take stevia and cream in my coffee but with the nitros coffee, there was no need for either! The scone was just as it should be - crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and full of berries! Stop by this hidden gem, you won't be sorry. read more

THIS LITTLE PLACE WAS SO PRECIOUS! There was an air of love and cuteness in this cozy, quaint place. We were just tourists, there for the Rock (awesome by the way) and had to stop by for coffee ! We were taken care of by a sweet kind looking man and every coffee need was met. The biggest plus was the atmosphere this place gave off. Like I could just really sit there, and feel welcomed. Ok. So how this place got 4 stars is beyond me. First off the middle aged man making the coffees and food was so not friendly. Not rude but it just looked like he hates his life working there. I get it, might of had a bad day bring Labor Day and not wanting to work but damn. You can smile at a customer. It's not hard! Second the coffee sucked. I asked for soy vanilla latte. He made it was regular milk. If I didn't have a milk allergy I wouldn't have known. But I immediately know. My mouth starts burning. I told him and he became defensive and saying he did make it with soy. But ended up making me another one. Third I ordered a breakfast sandwich with no cheese. And of course it comes to me with cheese. Ugh. We ended up throwing away everything because we were over it and went to Top Dog. And omg. It was amazing!!! Best coffee, customer service. And food. Not because of the fact that the coffee was extremely Blane and was as much as a cup of Starbucks coffee and they were out of the kind I had originally wanted, not because there was only a few flavors to begin with, but because the god awful worker/owner whatever she was. Not a smile on her face to begin with, not one thankyou from her, originally. Handed me the two cups to fill myself and flipped her little pos system around to me to tip. I said my thankyou As I tipped and went on.When leaving, I was blowing on the hot coffee she had FINALLY said thank you have a nice day, my fiancé said thank you, i already said thank you and tipped you for giving me two cups, but because that wasn't good enough for the worker/owner she proceeded to run basically towards the door to yell "or not" in front of other customers and everything. Just ate dinner and wanted a coffee for dessert. We "Yelped" this coffee house and drove straight over. Pulled around back to park and noticed a gentleman coming out the back door with a bike and locking the door behind him...closing 25 minutes early according to the sign posted on the door. Fast forward one month later.....same place for dinner, same want for coffee, approximately the same time of day...Parked around back, walked in, ordered 2 Cafe Mochas and drank a WONDERFUL cup of coffee! Asked for it extra hot and it was perfect. We'll definitely be back..hopefully the first visit was just a fluke and we'll update to a perfect 5 stars. (Service was fine. I love love love this coffee shop. I just started working right down the street so I walk there sometimes before work for a iced latte and a everything bagel sandwich and it is sooo delicious! The reason I am only giving 4 stars though is because usually when I go in there is only 1 person working and they aren't overly friendly. Like they are nice and polite polite but my experiences there always seem very transactional and that's it and maybe that could be because they only have 1 worker at a time but I would just suggest a warmer welcoming to their customers and then I'd give it 5 stars :) read more

Cute place but didn't know coffee. I ordered a macchiato. I had a feeling the gentleman taking my order didn't know what it was. Instead of simply asking me, I was served a giant sugary latte by the equally confused young barista gal. Supremely disappointed as it was the opposite of what I wanted. Folks, if you don't know what someone ordered - just ask. I assume they thought since Starbucks has a "caramel macchiato" that I wanted something big and sugary. Having been a frequent barista in college - let me enlighten thee: macchiato means "marked", meaning you mark the espresso or caramel down the center of the foam. When someone orders a single or double macchiato, all they want is for you to pour a shot through some foam. If they say latte macchiato, you make a latte and pour the shot down the center etc. read more

Have stopped here for coffee several times over the past year or so while in Morro Bay. Usually I am greeted by a friendly young lady with a big smile. Couple of days ago, I stopped in after meeting some folks late in the afternoon. Most tables were taken by students who appeared to be studying (or at least surfing the net on their notebooks) or some older couples just enjoying an afternoon cup of Joe. No one behind the counter so I filled my cup with what as usual turned out to be a very good cup of house coffee and went to the counter. A clerk I'd never seen before came in and in a less than pleasant voice says, "$1.75." Not a nice 'Hello' or 'How's your day going?" Just, "$1.75." Paid, took my coffee out back, and left. I've lived down the street from this place for three years and just now spent the time to walk down and check it out. My only regret is not doing this sooner. The prices are great and the items are delicious. This company is also a sister company of the beloved local chablis cruises. I ordered a medium cappuccino along with an apricot danish. This place has really taken a turn for the worse. This morning I thought I would give it one last try (after two previous mediocre experiences). Friday morning 8:30 am, mid July, ONE person (who seemed new) was running the register, making the food, making the lattes, serving the tables. A single person for the whole place! Not his fault. Blame it on the management. But the inexcusable part was the quality of the coffee. Our lattes were so bad... Not hot, no foam, and stale tasting espresso. I can't remember last time I got a latte at a coffee place that was so undrinkable. The kid running the show had no idea how to make a decent cup. Just had to get this review out. Now I'm headed down the street to Rock Espresso to replace this latte I dumped. read more

A great alternative to the corporate coffee places, and I really enjoyed my latte and multi berry scone. Some areas of needed improvement: the cashier who handled my money then went back o the kitchen and prepared the egg/cheese dish with same unwashed and gloveless hands... gross health violation. Made me not want to order food from here! Second irk was watching the barista have to redo the order in front of me and apologize profusely, only to also get confused on my order and do the same. Kind of off the beaten path, but a nice quiet locals place to grab a quick snack or sit and relax before heading back into the world! This place is great! Once you drink the coffee here it's hard to drink the other commercial stuff. I like Black Horse in Slo but the coffee here is on a different level. A coffee spot for the true "black" coffee drinker! Good job ya'll! Oh, and their food is delicious for the price. You'd be paying a couple bucks more anywhere else.
