I hope we all use the same English language. This is clearly saying "by slice"

I usually enjoy Moulin cafés and have visited many of their locations, but this one was by far the worst experience I've had. I came specifically to buy a slice of Galette des Rois, which was clearly labeled "by the slice" in the display. One of the employees refused to sell a slice and insisted I had to buy the whole cake. When I pointed out that the sign explicitly said it was sold by the slice, instead of clarifying or apologizing, she changed the explanation and said she "couldn't slice it." What makes this more frustrating is that this is not the first issue with service here. My husband complained during a previous visit, and this time I personally experienced the same dismissive and unprofessional attitude from the same two young employees. This seems to be a recurring problem, not an isolated incident. What's disappointing is that I've also been served here before by another staff member - an older French woman who provided excellent, warm, and professional service, which shows that the issue is clearly staff-related, not the brand. If something is not available by the slice, the signage should reflect that. Customers should not be met with changing explanations instead of honesty and proper service. I hope the owner or management takes this seriously and addresses the ongoing service issues at this location. Update: Today was my very first time trying Galette des Rois, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks to Mr. Laurent's kindness, this long-awaited experience became truly special. The galette was phenomenal -- delicate, rich, and absolutely authentic. I'm so grateful for the care and generosity. This is the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back again and again. Thank you!

This Moulin location is actually a very special & unique one, at the SoCo & The OC Mix complex in Costa Mesa, because this is where the dedicated bakers come in while most others in California are fast asleep (or maybe wishing they were) and create all of the pastries and cakes from scratch for early morning deliveries to all of the Moulin locations (in coastal South Orange County). As a result, most likely, the kitchen staff go home earlier than most or all of the cafe business hours and therefore this location doesn't make anything to order that is usually on the menu at other Moulin cafe locations, except for their super authentic & awesome crêpes, but they do have pre-made sandwiches, salads, and, of course, a nice selection of pastries and cakes, along with a fascinating array of cool drinks imported straight from France... the really neat thing also is that both of the staff members that were present today, a younger gentleman and a slightly older lady, were so exceptionally eager to tailor the best customer experience possible by being down-to-earth, friendly, intelligent, happy to go the extra mile(s), and of a very cultivated level of professionalism. The people at Moulin are so amazing & exemplify incredible teamwork!! The patio tables outside with the awesome red umbrellas specifically for Moulin customers are utterly picturesque and kind of transport customers to Paris at the same time... a really great way to recharge and enjoy seriously gourmet foods, with options for nutrition-seekers as well as epicures, made fresh to the highest standards of quality and cleanliness. Today, I enjoyed a La Mûre ("the blackberry") cake which dazzled all of my senses except the sense of sound (but this is debatable), and tasted absolutely divine in its delicate complexity and harmony of textures, colors, shapes, and tastes. I also reveled in a Crêpe Strawberry Jam, made to order by the talented younger gentleman, and noted the very delicate natural taste of the crêpe that was cooked to what I'd consider perfection, along with the authentic strawberry preserves jam (imported from France) that when combined, gives a really compelling taste of France - and Moulin makes the best crêpes I've ever eaten anywhere!! I love being a Moulin customer with my heart, mind, and soul and am very grateful to the people that keep what could very well be an impressive and respectable dream, an actual reality that inspires people with its art of visionary leadership and the granularity of commitment to creating Parisian-like atmospheres outside of France to just about every detail imaginable and attainable. The Moulin team is all about magic!!

Genuine French baker making delicate and flakey traditional and innovative pastries. The wonderful variety is executed picture-perfect with full, rich flavors that are not overly sweet like some bakeries.

I discovered this place while driving around in Costa Mesa. This was my second visit. Since it was a short visit, I will definitely come back to try the ready-made items to go, where you can select sandwiches, salad, hot food items, pastries, desserts, bread, fruits, drinks, and etc. They also sell other items like household items, wine, jams, teas, etc. No matter which day you go, this place is always packed. They have several locations in OC. The dining area is small inside, but plenty of table outside. There is a beautiful water fountain outside. The parking is a little tricky as you will have to go around few times before you can find a spot. Ordered: Flan Chocolate - It was different texture and taste than the traditional flan. It goes nice with the hot tea. Pain Au Chocolat - I love anything with chocolate inside the croissant. Past Items Ordered: Fresh squeezed OJ, Apple Tart, Mille-Feuille (puff pastry with cream) - All the items are shareable and delicious.

Every time we come here, it never disappoints! Absolutely delectable desserts that are as stunning and gorgeous as they are tasty to eat. We so enjoy the fruity black iced tea and this time around we tried the Quiche Lorraine. Oh My! Such a generous slice and so light and creamy! We had the rest for brunch the next day. It came with mixed greens and a house vinaigrette. It is so nice to have such a quality cafe. The lemon tarts were excellent, nice and perfectly tart and beautiful.

I would not recommend if you are not taking it out. 1. There is no microwave to heat the food up. 2. By the time I ordered my food and went to sit down, the food was cold. I couldn't eat the food. The pasta was cold, the potatoes were cold, the brisket was cold... vegetables was cold. Sitting area outside was so cold and windy... everything kept flying away( like the tissues) It's was just chaotic. I walked up to the register , I explained my ordeal and requested to heat up my food but they said they do not. A representative (maybe the manager) came to me and offered me food on the house, this made me feel better , because I already trashed my food. One thing I did like from here tho is the orange juice and latte. It is Fresh & Nice

I was excited to give Moulin a try since I've heard many good things. Upon entering the store, I was looking for the hot food menu but was told only the Newport Beach location has that. I was bummed since I saw posts on this page that showed the hot food section. That aside, the workers were very friendly and attentive. I tried some pastries and they were good. Location is great inside the OC mix. Plenty of parking and great shops all around.

Moulin is outdoor seating only, but the mall is very nice and you sit by the fountain. They have a good variety of pastry, coffee, and food options. It all looks very nice and tasty. The chocolate almond croissant I got was not as flaky as I was hoping and was on the sweeter side. The apple turnover was also okay, but not that flaky. Maybe they would both taste better toasted. The fruit tart was probably the best out of the three things we got. Iced mocha was also refreshing, but pretty standard.

Nice assortment of breakfast pastries. I got a yummy little apricot pastry and chocolate mocha with a small chocolate square to go with it. $8 for both Shop is small with only one table inside which was occupied by employees. Plenty of tables outside but too cold for a chilly morning. Took it across the way to an open table area.

When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

The self service, pre-made lunch bentos, sandos and sushi area is fine, but once you need assistance from a worker, it starts getting ridic. How so? You speak to whomever is attempting to assist you OVER and UNDER a twenty-four year old counter area that holds the pastries and/or through a tiny hole in the cabinets. You can hardly make eye contact with the person, because all the pastry is in between where you are standing and where they are standing. Some people are tall, some short, but regardless, there is NO WAY to have a conversation with them. They are trying to see what exactly you are possibly pointing to in the case, but as noted, you're talking thru a case of pastry. This is also true at the Fountain Valley location, where they only have a very small counter to check out with many people standing in line trying to have someone collect their order from the back. Maybe also ask WHY there is never any KINAKO donuts? I was there at 11 am and I got THE LAST ONE! If these are so popular, why don't you make enough to sell throughout the day? Every other time I've been here, you were already SOLD OUT! SMH HAS ANYONE HERE SEEN THE SELF SERVICE process at 85 degrees? All their pastry is individually wrapped and you calmly walk through the SELF SERVICE pastry area with a tray and tongs to help yourself. If you'd like to pass the person in front of you, it's easy and doable because there is plenty of room and it doesn't make anyone feel like you are taking "cuts". Once you get to the end, the cashier totals up your tray and puts it in a bag or box for you. Done & Done. Let me reiterate that your pastry and food are all above par and I know you've been in business since 2002 and let me commend you for 24 years of service, but it's time to CHANGE IT UP to a more user friendly process. It's not appealing to anyone in this busy day and age that there is a line out the door, ONLY BECAUSE THE PROCESS INSIDE NEEDS HELP! It's also more sanitary that the pastry and breads are wrapped ahead of time as I saw a fly inside the case today. Ugh.

Perfect atmosphere for a slow breakfast date. The food was incredible. Eller is clearly serious about sourdough and they absolutely nail the execution. We shared the sourdough cinnamon roll and it was easily one of the best pastries we've had in a long time. I ordered the bacon quiche with a side salad, and my husband had the breakfast sandwich with chicken sausage, both were outstanding and felt thoughtfully made with really high-quality ingredients. I've…read morenever had a bad experience here before, the food has always been great, and the staff has always made us feel welcomed and taken care of. This last visit was unfortunately very different. We came in with a fairly large party, and we completely understood that accommodating a group our size is a lot of work. When we got in line, the employee asked how many people were in our party, which made sense. However, we were then told that we could not all pay separately. This was confusing because payment is taken before you even sit down, so it's not like we were trying to split a bill afterward. Rather than make a fuss, we combined everyone's orders onto one card, totaling around $400. The food and drinks came out fairly quickly, which we appreciated. The reason I felt compelled to write this review, though, was because of how rude one particular employee was during the experience. She was wearing patriotic cat ears and appeared to be one of the baristas. One of my friends ordered a latte with alternative milk, but it seems the order may have been entered incorrectly. I've worked in the coffee industry myself, so I understand mistakes happen all the time, and remaking a drink is usually not a huge issue. Instead of handling it kindly, the employee responded with, "That's how it was put in, the request time has passed, that's our policy," in an incredibly dismissive and rude tone. We were honestly stunned. My friend, visibly uncomfortable, just quietly said "Okay," and the employee walked away. Nothing was offered to make the situation right. This happened after we had already spent hundreds of dollars and tipped before even being served. I'm not someone who enjoys complaining or writing negative reviews, but the interaction completely changed the experience for our entire group. What's most disappointing is that the refusal itself wasn't even the main issue, it was the attitude and apparent enjoyment in being dismissive over a very small and understandable mistake. I'm writing this mostly out of disappointment because I truly loved this place. I also think it's important for larger parties to know ahead of time that there appears to be a policy limiting payment methods, even though I've personally visited before with smaller groups where separate payments were allowed. I genuinely hope this was just an off day, because Eller Bakery has been a place I've loved supporting for a long time.

I went on a Friday night and it was VERY lively! There was a band playing by the bar and it was packed! People were drinking, dancing, hanging out. All of this is happening in a supermarket! Lots of food vendors to check out and all of it looked delicious! I don't remember the names of the places my friend and I ordered food from, but I had a chile relleno burrita, seafood cocktail, and pozole. I've never really had chile relleno, so I decided to just go for it and try something different even though there were other options that were more my preference. It was alright. Good thing it was only $5. The seafood cocktail was delicious! They did not skimp on the seafood and everything in it tasted so fresh. Pozole wasn't terrible, but just like my burrita, it was a bit on the bland side. Maybe my palate skews too heavily towards salty, but I felt like a little salt here and there would've really improved the flavors in everything we ordered. Overall the quality/freshness was there! Regarding the market part, nothing special. Maybe a little more selection than your typical Northgate, especially in the liquor department. Their wall of tequila was impressive. I will definitely be back again to try the other foods! In fact, I may just come all the way out here to do grocery shopping from time to time. I usually love coming to sidecar because of their delicious donuts but I was very disappointed…read morewith the service I received today. It was 10 min before closing & idk if the girls were just rushing to close down but one girl in particular had an attitude. There was a miscommunication / misunderstanding with the girl who took my coffee order (I had assumed the seasonal banana latte came with the foam as pictured & because she didn't ask if I wanted the foam, I didn't ask for it more-so bc she asked if I wanted the brittle on top). When they handed me my drink it was a plain banana latte with no foam or brittle. I was ignored when I tried calling for the barista until another girl followed up - however this girl had an attitude. She told me that I must not have ordered it since they ask at the register if I want foam with brittle. Explained they didn't ask. Instead she just said "sorry I'll let them know for next time". And walked away leaving me with my drink as is. Didn't offer any sort of resolution. I walked in and asked they could charge me extra for the foam. The same girl with the attitude remade my drink and handed it to me. No thank you, no sorry, nothing. First time experiencing this kind of service. Not sure if the girl is new but saw someone else share a similar experience couple days ago. Wish I would have asked for her name!

Really good! I've been here many times but I realized I've never reviewed this place. Of all times…read moreI've been here, it's no question a 5 star. The donuts were really fresh and hot when we got them. My wife loves the butter and salt one and it's absolutely perfect! The saltiness balances out with the richness and sweetness. I also ordered the golden hour grey, which was the seasonal flavor, and it was really unique. It was citrusy and light. Sidecar is definitely in it's own league and its tough to find other donuts to really compete with them. The store was pretty small with very limited seating at this location so it's more of a grab and go type of location. It's not too far from the beach though. Service was really efficient. Even if there was a line, it goes by quite quickly. It's worth it anyways!

Churros like no other! I usually ask for no sugar since…read moretheir choux pastry dough is just right- specially when you get the churros with the español coco- perfect nice thick dipping hot cocoa with the right amount of bitterness and sweet. Truly the only way to eat churros- enjoying the simplicity of the light and airy crunch pastry and the rich bitter-sweet chocolate. We stopped by the location at the Mercado Market- the place was amazing and truly worth a visit. The stall was located across the market's bakery. You have a view of the people cooking the churros and preparing your order. Given that the stall in inside the market, it was vibrant and lively. I would pick up lunch at the market, grab churros and hot cocoa or coffee for dessert at El Moro and then shop at the market and bring home more goodies!

The only way to have a churro is a fresh churro, so if you're not getting these churros fresh out…read moreof the fryer, are you even living? There's usually a line for these, which means they're constantly churning them out so you're basically guaranteed a hot, crispy churro the moment you order. They are decently sized too, well over a foot long, though they have minis available if you're feeling modest (no judgment). The dipping sauces are a great addition to the churros. The dark chocolate has this unexpected blueberry-ish, fruity vibe that sounds weird but somehow pairs *perfectly* with the sweetness of the churro. They also have condensed milk, caramelized milk, and caramel if chocolate isn't your thing (thought I highly recommend the chocolate!) Bonus points for the tables if waiting until you get home to enjoy the churros may be too difficult: after all, the point of these is to have them as fresh as they come. They also have hot chocolate and other treats, but the churros is what I came for. I am sure I will make a return trip though and if the dipping chocolate is any indicaiton of how the hot choclate is, it may be something I'll need to try on my return visit!
