Mountain House is a really nice restaurant that goes all in on the ambiance to enhance your dining experience. The sound of the water flowing in the fountains and the koi fish in the pond, it's really calm and peaceful. My family loves spicy food and since it was our first time, our attendant gave us some recommendations. The swinging pork belly was very thinly sliced but what makes it delicious is the chili oil and miso paste sauce I believe. The dish with tripe was also very tender. I do like that they slice so thin vertically because sometimes thick cuts of tripe can be chewy. We also had fried rice and hot and sour soup. The fried rice was well seasoned and tender meat and truly serves 4 adults. The hot and sour soup had a good balance of flavor and had at least 7 servings. The employee does serve your rice and soup so that's a nice service. I must say, I absolutely loved the tea and how the pot is perched on top of a warmer so it never gets cold. Such a stunning restaurant with a decently sized menu and delicious food. Not only is the restaurant, itself, beautiful, but the food is also presented beautiful since the plating is gorgeous. I went in a group of six for a friend's birthday and we had a reservation. It still took about 20 minutes to seat us but while we waited, we enjoyed the sight of the koi pond and sipped on some plum water. We shared several dishes between us all and even though there are two of us who are pescatarian, there were still dishes we were able to enjoy. Swing pork belly -- I didn't try the pork since I don't eat meat, but I noshed on the cucumber slices and dipped it in the chili oil that comes with it. This dish is presented in such a fun and unique way and the chili oil was delicious! Stir fried pea shoots -- 10/10. Mouthwatering. What a cool restaurant! I was in the plaza to go to another restaurant, but the wait was crazy. I didn't want to drive anywhere else, so I saw that Mountain House didn't have a huge line in front of it and was able to get seated right away. I will say that I think I got lucky because there was a wait right after me. I am not sure if you can make reservations, but would definitely try to if you can. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, really enjoyed it. As for the food, I wanted to try everything but I ordered the following: 1. Swing pork belly - I wasn't going to order this but saw this at everyone's table. Definitely a must order. The pork belly was super tender and really enjoyed the sauce. 2. La zi chicken- love the flavor of the spice and the fried chicken was cooked to perfection. 3. Crispy sizzling tofu - probably my least favorite dish. I thought the dish itself was kind of bland. 4. Dumplings - I really enjoyed the dish. The dumplings were super juicy and the sauce was flavorful yet mild. All of the flavors that I ordered were spicy so next time I would definitely order a few dishes without so much spice to even it out. I was craving pork intestine after work, so I ordered one Ma-La Pork Intestine. The listed price was $23.99, and this is what I got. Disappointing is honestly not even the word. The pork intestine tasted like it had been over-fried, with a dry and hard texture instead of being crispy and flavorful. On top of that, the portion was shockingly small. Most of the container was filled with dried chili peppers, and there was barely any actual pork intestine to eat. There were only a handful of tiny pieces of pork intestine in the entire order, which means each piece worked out to almost $1.50 on average. If that isn't shocking, I don't know what is. This is a complete rip-off. I ordered because I was excited to eat this after a long shift, but the actual food was nowhere close to worth the price. The beef rib dish is served like they do Peking Duck, and the meat is so tender. The mapo tofu has more of a fermented soy taste with the spice and was so comforting. One of my favorite restaurants of all time. The food is just so unique, and although I can't handle spicy food, I can't stop myself from craving and visiting this place. Never saw that before. Its a pretty authentic Chinese restaurant in that the majority of people here speak Mandarin only. So that's kind of difficult if you dont speak the language. We ordered the following: 1. Swing pork belly- this was a good cold dish. Paired with sliced cucumbers. By itself it doesnt have much flavor. But with thr dipping sauce it tasted amazing!! A flavor explosion with that sauce. Not what you think of usually when you think of pork belly. 2. Dumplings in chili oil- not as spicy as I would've imagined. Small dumplings. Good flavors. 3. Minced beef and egg drop soup- had 0 flavor. Tasted like drinking thickened hot water with tasteless beef and egg drop. Definitely a fail. Could've used anything. Something would've been nice. 4. Teppen Shrimp- this was ok. Slightly overcooked. Hard to take the shell off so I just ate it. Flavors were way too mild (putting it nicely). 5. King pao chicken- this dish was extremely good. Soft tender and juicy chicken. I loved the flavor. It had some heat. The thick sauce paired well with the white rice. They give you a free side of kimchi? It was pickled vegetables. As well as unlimited free tea. For dessert we had 1. Sweet drunken jelly- tasted medicinal in a good way. Like when your mom would make you a drink when you were sick as a child.
