    Full Chicken Salad Sandwich
    Elizabeth N.

Came back for a second visit because the first time was good. I ordered the full chicken salad sandwich and customized it with no mayo, no lettuce, and went with the squaw bread. They have a variety of bread options you can choose from. The chicken salad itself had a subtle sweetness that tasted good. Only downside was the texture. The chicken was a bit on the watery side, so the sandwich didn't hold up well. It kept falling apart with each bite, which made it a little messy to eat. Not a dealbreaker though. Service was just okay. The spot itself is small, and feels like a go to for nearby office workers grabbing something quick and heading out.

Not what it used to be.... I used to come here weekly for over 20 years. Today I was in the area and wanted a turkey and Swiss as I always get. It was 97 degrees outside, I walked in the restaurant and asked the girl at the counter if I could shut the door as there was so many flies inside, she said no we are supposed to leave it open... pretty odd to have air but open the door on the hottest day. I placed my order and left, the employee seemed upset to be at work and was not courteous not like it used to be. Then I open my sandwich and cannot believe my eyes... for an $11 sandwich I got a stale roll one slice of cheese and one slice of turkey. For anyone who used to go here back in the day the sandwich would be stuffed, not sure what happened or if it's the new ownership. I refuse to come back and won't, the old ownership knew how to run a restaurant. This was a disgrace!

This review is for their tuna sandwich since that's all I've tried here. I'm sure their other sandwiches are great but the tuna was just okay. It was bland. I'll give them another try soon.

I was pretty hungry and was interested to try this spot after passing it a few times. Upon entering we were welcomed and gave a quick rundown of the menu. We decided to order two of"the monsters" with all the condiments and chips. The monster is a sandwich that has avocado, roast beef, turkey, ham and Swiss cheese. We ordered one on sour dough and one on French bread - unfortunately both came out on sour dough. The sandwich was ok but the ingredients didn't scream quality and the bread was generic bread. The meat was sparse for a $16 sandwich. It's a little of a disappointment since I feel like you go to a sandwich shop especially for them having quality bread whereas I feel like I could make this sandwich at home.

Once again a great experience. Didn't want to eat what I brought to work for lunch and was like "Where can I go and get something and not feel bleh the rest of the day after eating it? Oh yeah! Duh!" Got a turkey sandwich (full) a bag of chips and a drink, all for $15 which isn't that bad these days. Especially when the food is quality. The cashier was super nice and I appreciated her help cause I was all over the place trying to figure out which sandwich to get.

    Happy hour

Server was rude when we ordered. We asked a question about what the difference was between two sandwiches and she pointed to the menu and told us to read the menu. We ordered 2 full sized sandwiches and 2 regular soft drinks and paid After ordering, we saw a sign that says there is a happy hour for a free regular soft drink with any sandwich purchase, but we were charged $3 each for our soft drinks that should have been free. When we asked the server, she wasn't helpful and told us her "timing is off today". Bathrooms were dirty with trash overflowing on the floor, soda machine ran out of ice.

I don't understand the reviews but maybe I'm expecting something different?! This is an absolutely no frills, nothing special sandwich shop. Nothing tastes bad... but if you're looking for a delicious sandwich, any type of special topping or creativity, this is not the spot. I got a blt on sour dough and that is pretty much what I got... two pieces of UNTOASTED sour dough (doesn't taste like sour dough tho...), lettuce, tomato, bacon. No sauce of any kind (ie mayo, etc). And it cost me $9!!! I honestly feel like I could've made this at home and it would've looked and tasted better. Not coming again....

Friendly staff and amazing sandwiches. I always try to stop by when I'm in the neighborhood

I was excited to give Mr Sandwich a try based on the rave reviews, and while I may have come in with too high of expectations, I still really did enjoy my sandwich and especially appreciated the friendly service. Mr Sandwich has a variety of hot and cold sandwiches so I opted for a "Turkey Avocado and Swiss Cheese" on sourdough bread ($12.69). If you're looking for a specialty sandwich shop, this may not be up your alley, but if you're in the mood for a tasty but simple, homemade sandwich, then look no further. While I wish there was a bit more meat than the two slices of turkey I received, I thought the sandwich was delicious, very fresh and I loved how soft the bread was. The price was a bit on the higher end for me as I was still hungry after I finished my sandwich, but I definitely enjoyed every bite of it! Service was also wonderful and I appreciated that "mom and pop" feel and love supporting local businesses. Mr Sandwich is in a small strip mall with a few other restaurants as well so parking was a bit tough but I was able to find a spot after a few circle-ings of the lot.

Tuna on sqaw bread. Very good.

Hui Lau Shan -- Mangoes, Brain Freeze & One Bee Awaiting the Hereafter…read more 9/7/26 -- Irvine, CA -- 5/5 After Korean BBQ, we arrived at Hui Lau Shan -- pronounced roughly hoy lo sahn in Cantonese -- already stuffed to the structural limits of the human abdomen. Naturally, this seemed like an appropriate time for dessert. Hui Lau Shan is a Hong Kong-based dessert chain heavily devoted to mango, which is immediately apparent from the display case filled with glossy dessert mannequins identified by little tags like "J3 Pomelo & Mango with Sago." The place knows its constituency. If mango is your religion, this is at minimum a chapel. The Irvine location itself is remarkably unpretentious: cracked, slightly sticky-looking concrete floors, deafening music that sounded approximately 15 years past its cultural sell-by date, and a youthful crowd containing several people whose legs appeared skinnier than my fingers. I felt less like a customer and more like an archaeological specimen temporarily admitted for observation. Being the radical nonconformist that I am, I came to a mango dessert shop and ordered the watermelon with coconut jelly. On a hot Irvine day, it was excellent -- cold, clean, refreshing and just sweet enough. 5/5. The little yellow Hui Lau Shan spoon, complete with cheerful fruit-headed mascot, provided an additional level of emotional support I did not know dessert utensils were capable of. We also had the J3 Pomelo & Mango with Sago, which arrived as mango, pomelo, sago and a scoop of mango ice cream lounging together in a bowl like wealthy relatives at a resort. Also 5/5. Cold enough to initiate a brain freeze, but on this particular evening brain activity had already been reduced considerably by KBBQ, so little was lost. The ordering system is straightforward: your receipt gives you an order number and server name, and the display samples make choosing fairly idiot-resistant. Ours even identified the J3 and the watermelon dessert clearly enough that no graduate degree in tropical fruit studies was required. There was, however, one melancholy resident inside the display case: a small bee apparently trapped behind the plastic among the immaculate fake desserts. Outside, Irvine remained warm and prosperous. Inside, mangoes glistened. The young remained young. The bee contemplated mortality. Los Angeles throws pollution into the atmosphere at rush hour; Hui Lau Shan throws mango into essentially everything else. A very good dessert stop after an irresponsibly large meal. Especially if you love mango, shaved ice, fruit desserts and the mild humiliation of realizing everyone around you appears young enough to be your intern. 5/5. If you are a mango lover, you will probably leave happy. If you are a dying bee trapped behind the dessert display, your evening is developing somewhat differently.

Sadly, the jasmine tea cheesecake was one of the worst desserts we've had. It tasted so unpleasant that we ended up throwing away what you see in the photo because we simply couldn't take another bite. The checkout experience was also a little unusual. The cashier told us the credit card machine wasn't working, so the only payment options were cash or sending a Zelle payment directly to the owner. There was a small handwritten sticky note with an individual's name and phone number for the Zelle payment, which felt a bit odd. To be fair, there wasn't a large selection available when we visited, so it's possible they have other pastries or desserts that are much better than what we tried. However, based on our experience, the item we purchased was disappointing, and the $12 definitely didn't feel well spent. On the positive side, the décor and overall aesthetic were lovely and were probably the bakery's strongest feature.
