Food and service spectacular. Drinks were amazing . Very good atmosphere! We loved it!

We called ahead on a Saturday night and they said that it'd be difficult to get a party of 11 seated and that it would most likely be over an hour wait. We were fine with it, and ended up getting seated in 20 minutes. Not a long wait to get seated, but then we were seated at the table closest to the live music stage and it was pretty loud. Also, it was a much longerrrr wait for the food to come out. Half of the table got a pasta dish, and the other half got other items on the menu. I did enjoy the chef's pasta more. It had sausage and shrimp for a more meaty taste. The other pasta picture has mushrooms and tomatoes, and the mushroom flavored definitely was overpowering. The beignets were okay, but I could only eat one. I just got it to try out. The live music was great, and it was really cute to see some people go up to dance on the stage. There weren't many people dancing, but it was cute. The place is pretty casual, and I feel like I could tell that a lot of the locals come here to hang out! read more

Flight was terribly late due to all the weather passing through but still made it to Mulate's for the supper. Group of 9 and they were already seated when I got there. Walking distance from the Hilton. One of the guys ordered for me. It was awesome. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The flavor of the mashed potatoes blended so well with the fish what they called gravy but it was more like seafood étouffée. The old fashioned was great and the outstanding server got us the last two bread puddings. Great food and great service. read more

The food was sooo good, but the bill was quite hefty... given that we did order extra apps and sides. The inside is huge & they had live music in the back, which made the visit even more delightful! Our server was extremely kind and always made sure to satisfy our needs and correct our orders like replacing the teas that were too sweet and swapping the sizes of the etouffee. I didn't really care for the lump crab beignets, the filling was a bit too sweet for me, and the inside was wet and doughy. The fried gator bites tasted like calamari, I enjoyed these so much! The mozzarella sticks were BIG and yummy. The cheese was oozing out. Caesar salad was a classic as always. They chop the lettuce into smaller pieces. The truffle fries were my FAVORITE. They tasted just as amazing as they smelled. They were crispy for the most part, and I seriously could not stop reaching for them. I got the shrimp etouffee, and it was okay. Flavor wise, it could have used a bit more seasoning. Also, I don't think the rice was cooked all the way through because it was hard. My friend got the chef's special pasta. It wasn't that great in my opinion. Noodles were too soft, and the sauce was bland. Once again, it needed extra seasoning. I got to try some of the stuffed jumbo shrimp as well, and wow that was actually packed with a whole ton of flavor!!! If I wasn't so stuffed, I could've eaten more. Definitely check this place out. I really wanted to like this place. I went for lunch, and it's clearly a place to visit at night with live music. So being here around 1pm felt like trying to enjoy morning coffee with a vampire. I ordered a Caesar salad and the Taste of New Orleans sampler. The prices appeared to have the entertainment charge baked in, because they were way out of line with the portions. I received my food about 90 seconds after ordering. It's clear all was prepped and loaded well in advance. The salad was outrageously good. It looked unassuming and the kitchen committed the sin of serving the dressing on the side (it really should be tossed), but the flavors were perfect. The other dish was kind of a disaster. Four small, shallow bowls with rice, "red beans," gumbo, and etouffee, presented as a flight. The salad and soup were brought to my table at the same time, so by the time I finished the salad, the rest of the food was somewhere between lukewarm and cool. Rice was fine and still warm. Very few beans in the beans, mostly ham and really salty. Etouffee was unremarkable but tasty enough; it clearly suffered the most from the loss of heat. The roux of the gumbo was WAY over for my taste, irredeemably acrid. Cajun is not my favorite cuisine, so maybe I just haven't acquired the taste for this style of gumbo. But pretty yuck. I saw fried seafood at other tables that looked plentiful and tasty, so I think I also didn't order to the restaurant's strengths. Maybe I'll try again at night on a future visit. read more

Lucked into a great server. Had dinner with a childhood friend. Bloody Mary was on point. I had an old school Nawlings Debris poboy with charbroiled oysters. I appreciated when we asked about a couple of menu items the server started us in another direction. Left a good tip for him. It wasn't commanders palace but it was an authentic Nola meal. We had high hopes for this place but it just wasn't it. Service was relatively slow but the food came out extremely fast. The lady was working her tail off though so hat tilt. Ambiance was extremely family friendly with lots of big groups and kids so quite loud. Great for families but don't recommend for a couple looking for a more authentic feel. Chicken jambalaya (2/5) - not much meat, dry, not much flavor, not that hot. Dippin shrimp (4.5/5) - the hero of the night Catfish mulates (2.5/5) it was just off. It's a bit off the beaten path from some of your other French Quarter offerings, but we were at the Convention Center and this was an easy walk right across the street. It's a large venue with some decent bar space to belly up if you prefer to eat at the bar. We were seated quickly and got our drink orders in within a couple minutes. Server was prompt and attentive. I ordered the Taste of New Orleans. It was a sampler that had gumbo, eťouffée, and red beans. It was pretty tasty, but a bit overly priced at $14. Overall, the restaurant served its purpose. Beers were cold and the food was hot. The flavor was there and the ambiance was New Orleansy. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but it will be my go to joint for lunch next time I'm at the convention center. read more

This was a cute Cajun restaurant right around the corner from the hotel, right near the convention center. Very convenient for a late, casual dinner. The hours are a bit shorter during the week (closed early week when I was there, but check hours direct with restaurant). We came in very close to close due to this (which I hate doing), but they were able to seat us and service was wonderful from John K. The food was outstanding and it was a nice quiet night! The fish strips were some of the lightest and best catfish I've ever had and the gator bites with the recommended blackened preparation were delicious with the remoulade). Added a side of corn hush puppies which again, were just delicious!! Would love to come back to try more of the amazing items on the menu, have a hurricane and catch the live music! What a great place. Wide open dining. I had the jambalaya and shrimp poor boy. Very delicious and the poor boy had lots of shrimp and the roll was not too heavy of bread. Nice easy to eat sandwich. I was almost forced to go here by a recommendation of someone I knew. Like...go or you're a bad person. (eye roll). Anyway, it was so talked up (and against a fair number of other well renowned places) I had really high expectations and was looking forward to dinner. I made sure I was hungry! Needless to say it was an epic let down. Firstly, it was SO loud I could barely have a conversation with the person a foot away from me. There was a young girls convention for basketball and it was packed with screaming preteens who had what appeared to be zero supervision. Coupled with this, there was also live music, to which we were unhappily surrounded by cacophony. Secondly, our server (didn't get the chance to get his name) was to our table and out so fast, it was disconcerting. No chatting, no friendly greeting, no welcome whatsoever. He didn't once ask if we wanted anything else, or take the time to actually LOOK at us to see if we were satisfied. He asked if the food was ok and was gone before we could utter a real reply. Thirdly, (and understand this place is EXPENSIVE) Most of our food was served STONE COLD and the main dish I was so excited to get was lukewarm. We ate that because we'd gone in starving with high expectations. It took a long time to get our food. Having a $25 sample plate served cold was ridiculous. Do they just have pots filled with sides sitting on the counter they plop into small dishes, or what? Thick, goopy, and terrible. I called a manager over and he didn't hesitate to remove that one awful thing, but it was still $80 plus for a totally blah meal, with a bad server, and an environment that was horrifically loud. I'm sure they have better nights, and no doubt they often serve food hot, but NOLA is known for excellent food AND service. This night we had neither, so I can't suggest you go, and I won't be going back again. Bummer. I had been going to visit Jacques-Imo's, and you can be sure, if I get back there, I for sure will!! read more

This is a great spot for getting a taste of Cajun culture and cuisine. I'm an out of towner but I always work my way through the vast array of restaurant options when visiting and rarely do the same place twice and almost never do the touristy spots. But when I'm in charge of dinner plans and we have others joining us who have never been to Nola, Mulate's is one of our go-to's for food and fun atmosphere. I love the zydeco bands and have never had a bad meal. On this last trip showing friends around, our waitress was super friendly as she took our drink and entree orders. After that she completely forget we were there. Someone else brought out our plates and I had to get one of the busboys to ask her to come back as we had been dry on drinks since before our food came. This was the first time I've ever had an issue with service. All in all, service aside, everyone enjoyed the experience. read more

Very old restaurant right across the street from the convention center. It listed itself as the original Cajun restaurant. It has a very cool Louisiana feel and music playing. They do have an area up in front that does sell gear shirts, etc. Our waitress was incredibly friendly. She was very helpful talking us through some of the food options as well as just being a cheerful fun server. We first ordered alligator bites, this is the first time I've ever had alligator and it was chewy but I had a good taste and really good breading. Then for our main course, we had i'll be taking off gumbo, with shrimp. It was excellent a great taste well spice an excellent bite and loaded down with vegetables and shrimp. We also had a jambalaya which my son said was incredibly good. In addition, we had pot roast mashed potatoes and grilled corn. It's probably some of the best pot roast I've ever had in my life. The mashed potatoes were plain, but with a perfect addition to an incredibly flavorful roast. The corn was a little dry. But gave a bite to the food. We also had a couple drinks the New Orleans standard hurricane. It was really very sweet. Tasted a lot like Hawaii and punch, but still good. and also an old-fashioned, which was not very strong, but had a nice balance of tastes. read more

We walked in late on a Monday night. Our waitress was super nice. We tried the fish strips, queso with andouille sausage, and the cornbread. Even though they were closing for the night the food tasted fresh. The space was super great, the bathrooms a very clean. All in all we will come back if we're ever in NOLA again. read more

We went in between 7 and 8 on a Wednesday. We were seated right away by a really friendly guy. Our server, Jason, came by to ask us about drinks. He was a really nice guy and very patient with us in ordering. There's just a lot to choose from. He gave several recommendations and was honest about what other customers like and don't like. We settled on sharing the grilled seafood platter. Everything was great! I don't typically like green beans at restaurants, but instead of being washed in bacon grease and soggy bacon these had crispy real crumbled bacon on top. The seafood was all perfectly seasoned. My only complaint was that the meal didn't include a full piece of catfish but a filet that seemed to have been cut in half. The restaurant is spacious inside with large dance floor in the middle. First time visiting this restaurant, the atmosphere is very fun and welcoming, a live band comes to play music and invites people on stage to playing along, the staff is also very friendly. I will say the food is okay, I tried their charbroiled oysters and the catfish mulate's. read more
