    Chargrilled oysters
    Anna N.

Came here for the first time 8 years ago and we fell in love with their chargrilled oysters. Came back in hopes the oysters were the same and it was nothing like it was before. The oysters were COVERED with Parmesan cheese, and there was very little to no garlic butter. We didn't even finish our dozen before leaving. $32 for a dozen... The FOH guy was definitely stressed. Seemed like he had no idea what he was doing trying to seat us. Our server was super nice and attentive. We were just sad that the oysters weren't what we remembered.

Grilled Catfish and Gumbo. The catfish was supposedly "blackened".

Ok, the location/decor was fun and interesting. The Service was great. I loved the live music and people dancing. Overall the env was very fun!! The food...was ok. Its such a large location and so busy the food had a cafeteria style quality about it. And their idea of "Blackened" is not blackened...seasoned? Sure...but not blackened cajun soul style!

This was my first meal upon arriving on Sunday afternoon. The taxi driver recommended that I try this restaurant. I had the seafood platter and ordered the beignets filled with Nutella. My food was delicious and I hope I get to go back before I leave. I also had excellent customer service!

We came by one weekday evening to a busy dining room and mellow live music. It was one of our first restaurants here so we wanted to try all the things: jambalaya, cornbread, gumbo, etouffee, red beans and rice, bread pudding, nutella stuffed beignets.. we got it all. Overall? I'd give it an OK. I didn't love the jambalaya and thought the gumbo, etoufee, and red beans were all just a so-so sampling of what could be something far more delicious. I will write home about that cornbread, though. We ALMOST went back just to get more cornbread but decided against it, so I will fondly remember my Mulate's experience by a block of corn bread with whipped honey butter. For dessert, we asked the server to surprise us with two of her favorites - I'm sure she ended up just bringing what was most popular, but the surprise was fun. The nutella beignets are good, but gave more of a deep fried nutella vibe than a beignet vibe - I was expecting more dough. The bread pudding was incredibly sweet and dense, but flavor was good. Think of a wet cake that was packed and pressed down into a solid block - not a single air bubble to be found in this one. Indulgent, but I did take it home to finish off later.

Had lunch here with some friends. I had the catfish mulate and enjoyed it. It had a shrimp sauce and came with mashed potatoes and veg. The table also had two po'boys, one with shrimp and one with beef. Conveniently located near the convention center. The service was great and it looks like they have live music often too. Would definitely recommend.

My son said the bacon cheeseburger was the best he's ever had. The sampler was good. The crawfish one and the rice was the favorite. Service was very fast and the server was nice. Would come back again!

My first time coming to this place it's mainly a live venue so coming here before 5 PM is probably not the best choice I was greeted when I came through. The servers were pleasant and the food came out really quick. I just kind of wanted a snack so I got a bowl of gumbo. It comes with rice and potato salad. I highly recommend potato salad in your gumbo, at least trying a spoonful. I wanted to try something little different so I got the half alligator half frog legs that was where things started to go a little wrong. I have had alligator and frog legs before and enjoyed it. I did read other reviews and they enjoyed the fried Gator bites mine were rubbery and I think over cooked after reading about Gator which can be rubbery if overcooked. I couldn't finish Gator and frog legs. It wasn't edible for me. So I can't in good conscience recommend the half and half Gator frog legs. THe gumbo changes here today was chicken sausage and shrimp it was okay. I am a gumbo fan and wouldn't order this gumbo again. This is my opinion, I would say get a cup and share it with someone and maybe it is your type of gumbo. The color was great, I like more savory roux. I ordered a Cajun Old fashion, they serve a really good portion and I recommend this. I recommend going with your favorite bourbon they have some options which is nice. I plan to come back and try some of the other dishes to be fair and give a better review of the menu. Great place to catch live music but timing was bad today. 1-2pm was very slow and only had 4 tables out of maybe 50 on a Friday. My experience was about 3 stars based on texture of alligator bites. And flavor profile of the gumbo. This place would be great for a large group to catch the band. It just wasn't the best experience for me today.

Stopped here on a rainy night for a quick bite after checking into our hotel. I decided to order the Taste of New Orleans since we were only in the city for one night & I wanted it all. It included gumbo, etouffee, red beans & rice, and jambalaya. Well the etouffee stole the show. It was loaded with crayfish and oh SO good!! I wish i had ordered the larger serving of just that. Second favorite was the gumbo. I thought the jambalaya and beans & rice were average. My husband ordered the shrimp po-boy which looked and he said tasted really good. Service was fast and friendly. It was too early fir the music and we were too tired to wait. 2025-101

Mulate's had a great vibe. We visited this restaurant for dinner. They had music and a great atmosphere. The food was delicious. I had catfish nuggets and grits. My husband the charbroiled oysters. The wait time for our food was very minimal. I will definitely eat here again.

    Shrimp and grits

I feel like this place should have a higher rating. Food was delicious! Our waiter was a very nice local who recommended the shrimp and grits which was her personal fav. As soon as she said that and I saw its with New Orleans signature bbq shrimp... oh I was in! Just a disclaimer, it's not actually barbecued if you are wondering lol but is in this sauce of magical seasonings and butter. I had shrimp and grits, crawfish etouffe, alligator bites, and their cornbread! All were SO GOOD!!! The cornbread we all loved, it was like a cake! The etouffe was one a my faves on my trip (I had almost everywhere I went lol) the shrimp on the shrimp and grits was sooooo yummy! The consistency of the grits was a little thicker than my personal preference, but seasoned and tasted very good still. My son had the chicken and sausage jambalaya which he loved as well and my cousin had the roast beef po boy which she enjoyed very much. Overall great experience, definitely recommend, especially if you are near the convention center because it's right across the street.

If you've never been to NOLA, you have to make a stop at Mulate's! The live Zydeco music and dancing are a wonderful Cajun experience. The music just makes you want to move. The waitstaff are friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are good, but it's the atmosphere that makes it. It's a unique experience.

needed a group dinner location and was able to snag a table here! the cozy cajun ambiance was awesome and there was even a live band. while service was pretty slow, it was a busy friday night so it's to be expected. we enjoyed everything we had to eat and would absolutely come back

I had learned of this place a few years back. I just recently traveled from Atlanta to celebrate my birthday here. I chose this place for their nightly playing of good ole cajun music. The band is good at encouraging crowd participation. Since i was there for my birthday, i didnt mind playing the rub board and spoons along with the band. I had a freakin blast, and the video to prove it. I ate good too. I started with smoked boudin. Boudin is a traditional Louisiana sausage consisting of rice, ground up chickn livers ,pork and various spices. I also had chicken and sausage jambalaya. For dessert. I had bluebell ice cream. I loved every minute i was there

It's NOLA and there are obviously a plethora of restaurant options to choose from however, this place was outstanding. The service was rent good, the food takes sometimes to arrive. The interiors are classy with character. We got the oysters to start with, I got a Bloody Mary and some chicken starters. I got the fish they recommended and my husband got the grilled shrimp. We finished it with the carrot toffee cake which kicked it out of the park! The oysters : 10/10, very fresh. The chicken: 10/10, perfectly cooked. The fish: 100/10! Definitely the star! Their awesome customer service actually started before we stepped into the place. A tropical storm was coming the night of our original reservations and their staff accommodated us for another night. They were very understanding then and even when we had to again change plans due to the weather. We went from a party of eight to five. Every single one of us thought the meal and service were outstanding. I have a gluten allergy and Joey handled it very well, making adjustments where he could so that I could still enjoy the dishes. The table split the Seafood Platter which came with a Smoked Tuna Dip, Smoked Drum Dip, Gulf Shrimp, Seafood Salad, and Raw Oysters. We also split the Steak Tartare. Supplemental crackers and toast hit the table. I was so pleasantly surprised that they provided me with cucumber slices to transport the tartare and dips to my mouth! The fish dips, Seafood Salad, and Steak Tartare were outstanding. We were recommended the Steak Tartare by friends and we definitely agree it's a winner. For cocktails, we started with Old Fashions and I had the Mother of Pearl made with both gin and vodka and dill. I was reluctant at first because I don't like gin but I'm glad I decided it give it a try because it was refreshing. I later switched to a Dirty Martini. For entrees, we tried to split the daily special Cobia Fish dish but unfortunately they sold out so they replaced it with another fish. We also had the Grilled Tuna. For sides we got the Seafood Gumbo, Fried Oysters made gluten free, Fried Okra which was gluten free and made with cornmeal and then also the Brussel Sprouts. Both sides were so good especially the Brussel Sprouts with the Chili Sauce. The Asian fusion on all the dishes were not over powering and was a true highlight. We loved the Fried Oysters so much, we had a second order. Thank you for making them gluten free! I can't remember what desserts we got but everyone enjoyed them. The pictures look pretty. I think it was Key Lime Pie, Sticky Toffee Pudding with Cream Cheese Ice Cream, and Ice Cream. I only tasted the ice creams and they were yummy. We're so happy we finally had a chance to enjoy a meal at Peche. We've heard for years that we had to have dinner here. Joey made the meal extra special. Overall service is great from them picking up dirty dishes, refilling glasses, to bringing us little wipes after eating the seafood with our fingers.

As soon as they arrived, I picked one up and immediately thought, "Wow, this is incredibly light." Anyone who eats crabs regularly knows that's usually a bad sign. When I opened it, it was completely hollow inside--nothing but an empty shell. A crab that is hollow like that was dead before it was cooked. I never took a single bite. I showed it to our server, Remy B., who apologized and said she would let the manager know. She took the plate away, so I assumed the issue was being handled. When the bill arrived, I was still charged for the crabs. I asked to speak with a manager and explained exactly what happened. She confirmed that I had notified the server and that the plate had been taken away. Then she told me that it didn't matter because their policy is to not give refunds or remove food from a check. Let that sink in: they acknowledged that I didn't eat the food, acknowledged that the server removed it, and still charged me for it. A restaurant standing behind its food is the bare minimum. Charging customers for food that was clearly unacceptable and never eaten is ridiculous. The lack of concern from management was even more disappointing than the crab itself. The only reason this review isn't 1 star is because the young man at the host stand was friendly, professional, and the one bright spot of the entire experience.
