OK, so there is a good place for prime rib in HMB, the only hitch is they serve it only on Fridays. And, you must come very early. Several times it was sold out when we wanted to go. So, if that is what you want call in advance. I guess after trying to go there for the pr several times and it being sold old expectations were very high. It was good but not the best. I mean it was soooo much better than Vallemar Station's in Pacfica (where you get a humongous piece of meat with no taste). Here it is much tastier but a much smaller portion as well. The grounds are impressive. Thats what gives this place at least one star. But to go inside Mullins valet is required. There was a wedding going on when we got there so only the bar area was available. We were only separated from the wedding by a sheet, so we got to listen to J-Kwon "Getting Tipsy" while we had our appetizers and screamed our conversation. We had a 3 cheese platter and a bruschetta. The 3 cheese platter ($14) was made up of a nice selection of cheeses from the local 7-11 (seriously). Accompanied with some sliced almonds, the kind straight out of the bag, drizzled with honey. It was the worst 3 cheese platter I have ever had. The Bruschetta ($6) was 4 extremely thin slices of french bread with a spoonful of Bruschetta (which seemed to come straight from a Costco tub). Fine place to go right after golf to get a quick bite. In the past year the quality of the food and service at Mullins's has gone up considerably, with the appearance on scene of chef Roberto and manager Marie O'Brian. We had the Valentine's Day special: the soup was a smooth creamy corn chowder with accents of lobster and fresh herbs, a flavorful combination of tastes; the salad had skinless orange sections and baby arugula (I can't remember all the other ingredients) and was carefully and thoughtfully dressed; The broccolini was the best I've had--so crispy and tasty!; the scalloped potatoes especially flavorful -best I have had anywhere including my own recipe!- and the filet mignon delicious, cooked perfectly to each person's taste, smooth as butter. You know when the potatoes are equally as good as the meat you are in the presence of a chef who cares! The meal ended with a trio of desserts. All were interesting and the tiramisu was divine! One of the guests with us had extremely limited eating requirements: after two helpful phone calls with Marie, when we arrived at the restaurant she asked the chef to come to our table and help our guest in choosing what she could have. He was incredibly patient and obliging and ended up graciously making her a special plate of food. Every time we dropped a napkin or a spoon someone rushed to pick it up before we even noticed what had happened. Our waiter Francisco was personal and fun to talk to but not overly intrusive. He sincerely did his best to see that his guests were enjoying their meal and having the best evening possible. Every encounter we had was as pleasant as could be, and we can't wait to come back and try some of the other choices on Roberto's menu. read more

Came here while walking around the ritz Carlton property. I was tired of paying exorbitant prices for what I found to be mediocre food at the ritz, so I figured this place couldn't be any worse. Initially, I was disappointed w the service, as the female bartender completely ignored me when I walked in on Labor Day for brunch. However, we seated ourselves on the patio, and our waiter was awesome. Prompt and friendly service, no awkward hovering. Food was 3.5 stars (I ordered eggs, bacon, hash browns and fruit), but I'll round up because the service was nice. read more

I got married here the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, and I couldn't have asked for a better venue. If you have a chance to work with Amy, Karen, and Veronica, you will NOT be disappointed. If you also use the preferred vendors, you won't regret it. That's exactly what Tyler and I did. We stumbled upon HMB Golf Links/Mullins as we were searching for a wedding venue. It really was meant to be, since we often spent time frolicking underneath on the beach near the carved cliffs, but I was certain we wouldn't be able to afford the property. We were wrong - we saved for a year, and we had a great wedding. From the time we met Amy to the day of the wedding working with Karen for ceremony and Veronica for the reception, I felt totally supported by the staff. They were patient, helpful, and completely competent at holding events. Their experience really shines - I didn't have one emergency or stressful situation, because I listened to their advice during the planning process and trusted them on the day of. Best parts: - They set up and clean up! - The photo tour the day of. Our photos from the private golf cart photo tour are insanely nice. - The day-of managers, Karen and Veronica, are superheroes. - They work directly with vendors (when they can, especially with their preferred vendors; I used Alena Jean for flowers, DJ Mike, and Shanti for photos. We seated ourselves at a table that was set for dinner in the room next to the bar. After no acknowledgement from anyone, I got up and asked for menus. Where are you sitting? I show him and he said someone would be with us. No service so I wave over a server. Oh you cannot sit there, the section is closed. Well put up a sign! Don't set the table. We move in to the main dining room and we sit & wait and wait. One waiter gave two out of the five of us water and the "someone will be over to take your order". Lots of workers running all over the place but we were completely ignored. Our friends from out of town (we live in OC) were so put off, as we were so we left! Worst service ever!!! read more

Very disappointed with the quailty of food. We had the complimentary garlic fries, calamari, artichoke salad and burger. The fries were hot and crispy...could use more garlic. The calamari was also crispy and the batter did not fall apart...hate it when the batter falls off. The artichoke salad clains to use fresh artichoke but to our surprise, it wad fresh...fresh out of the can. Another disappointment was the shrimp...it wasn't grilled. The burger was ok...not what I expected from a Ritz Carlton. If I ordered it medium rare, it should have some pink. It was well done and lacked seasoning...the cook has no business being in the kitchen if he can't cook a simple burger. Disappointed in the meal but not the service. Really picturesque bar and grill situated on the golf course overlooking the coast in HMB. There is a patio that over looks the gold course and its a great place to watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. The interior has a very warm feeling with a large stone fireplace separating the bar from the restaurant. There are plenty of windows to provide a view of the coast. My friend had her wedding reception here and it was absolutely gorgeous. The weather turned out to be perfect that night. It was extremely relaxing to have drinks on the patio and the waitresses are very attentive with the hors' d oeuvres. Their coconut shrimp is really yummy! The bruschetta is okay. The fruit platter was standard. Nothing mind-blowing. Food wise, the sun dried tomato ciabatta bread is delicious. I wish they had olive oil and balsamic vinegar rather than butter to dip the bread in though. The Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly (usually the meat is overcooked at weddings). However, I think they ran out of dishes when they got to the tables in the back because they started substituting with burgers & fries. I'm not really sure how that works since you pre-ordered already. The portabello mushroom was more of a pastry puff stuffed with cheese and polenta. I was not impressed. While some of the dishes were really good and the servers are attentive, I don't know if it would be worth it to come back for the food. I think its worth coming for drinks and maybe some appetizers if you are in the area. read more

Came here with the boy for a late afternoon snack [because we had a lateish breakfast, and were getting hungry around 3 in the afternoon] because we saw the check in offer [free garlic or sweet potato fries!]. Parking was a little complicated, but we finally found a spot! Yay. Not a large selection, prices kind of steep, but I mean.. it's in the Ritz Carlton. What do you expect? We just ordered a bowl of clam chowder [$8], and well, it was good, but I expected more for $8. Garlic fries were yummy, though. $10 [including tip] for a midafternoon snack for two is definitely reasonable. Had a fabulous dinner there tonight for Valentine's day. It was a fixed price menu with three choices for entree. I'm a vegetarian and the manager Maria asked Chef Roberto come out and consult with me about what I would or would not eat and be accommodated me brilliantly. I guess this is a new chef, who has been there for 7 months, and he's incredible! Started off with corn bisque with pesto ( regular meals had lobster pieces in bisque) then a beet and arugula salad with orange slices and a brie- like cheese ( and pieces of trout) and then for me a platter of beautiful polenta with truffle oil and variety of mushrooms, broccolini and garlic spinach ( the others had a wonderful fillet and potatoes which they said was great!). And to top it all off a trio of desserts including tiramisu and a chocolate covered strawberry. The service was really excellent as well. Nothing was left out or left us wanting. I highly recommend this restaurant now! It was scrumptious!!! read more

Terrible service, mediocre food. The first time we came here in Sept, we were promptly seated and the food was decent. However the second time we called ahead and the manager Amber said there was space for our group so we made a reservation. We arrived and waited for 10 mins for the host. Then a waitress came by and said they couldn't seat us bc they've decided to close the back room. So after driving 30 mins for our reservation, they cancelled when we got there and we had to find another place for to eat. Other patrons came by to ask the waitress to order bc they had been waiting 15 mins at their table. read more

We decided to try something different. We heard the prime rib was very good, but I came on the wrong day. Prime rib is only served Friday night. So, tonight we had the soup, which was flavorful and pretty good. It was clam chowder, and in my opinion a bit thin, I do not know if the kitchen was trying to stretch it out, so they did not have to make more. We also had the cheesy crab bread. It is crab season here in Half Moon Bay, and this was an Okay effort, but not very much crab on bread.. I then moved on to the Pan seared pork chop. That was actually nice, the sauce was lacking some seasoning, but I can use the salt shaker. The wait staff was a bit slow on drink refills, however, it was nice not to be pushed out the door. I will have to try this place again, and that is why the 3 stars, so I can make room for improvement. Beers range between $6-7.50 and cocktails are about $10. Glasses of wine run about $8 read more

I feel so fortunate to live nearby to Mullins Bar and Grill for a convenient pick up of their Friday night Prime Rib dinners. I have to admit I enjoy these meals 2 to 3 times each month and am consistently impressed! The prime rib has always been cooked to perfection, and the accompanying side dishes, mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables are equally delicious. The portions are generous and the meals are available exactly on time and served piping hot. The staff is very courteous, professional, and efficient and overall it is an outstanding experience! read more

I thought the food here was terrible! All three of my party had complaints about the food - the blackened salmon sandwich was undercooked, my friend's fries tasted like the last ones in the freezer bag, and I think they ran out of dressing for my ahi tuna salad so they just poured a bottle of soya sauce on it. It was so salty, I couldn't eat it, and I never usually complain about any food. I was surprised after all that, that the waiter didn't bother calling the manager or comp'ing anything (not that we asked - we probably should have). I guess he's just used to bringing back food to the kitchen. Will never eat here again. Gross! read more

My first time visiting the Ritz and decided to try out the recommendations of other yelpers at Mullins for lunch. Must have picked an off day. They had the large main room with the better view of the golf course and only a partial distant ocean view, but nobody was being seated there because "there was a tournament". Never saw any body enter during the entire time I was there. We were seated in the smaller eating area across from the bar with the TV screen without any view. The daily specials weren't very exciting today. So I ordered the marinated teriyaki skirt steak and my girlfriend ordered the bbq rib/chicken combo from the daily menu. My steak was ok-something was off with the sauce and a little thin. The bbq combo came with very little sauce on the ribs and nothing on the chicken. Had to order an extra side of bbq sauce. The sweet potato french fries were great! Nice crunch on the outside and soft on the inside and no grease. Can't ask for more from a french fry potato! read more

The staff here was really awesome. Our server was really nice. Even employees that weren't our server came to check on my boyfriend and I. We went for breakfast and ordered the eggs benedict and the blueberry pancakes. The eggs benedict was great, the pancakes were ok. The price was pretty reasonable also. The view was beautiful even on the gray rainy day that we went on. Its connected to a golf course that buds up to the coastline. After your meal you can go walk around and take in the beautiful scenery. The only complaint i have is the obnoxious woman that was basically yelling to her coworkers while we were dining. If it weren't for this...manager, i'm assuming...our meal would have been near perfect. read more

I always give 'em a few chances before I rate. I'll be brief. BEET SALAD--paid $6 extra for chicken...IT WAS CANNED CHICKEN DUMPED BESIDE THE SALAD. NACHOS--paid extra for beef--it was horrible, rubbery, and appeared to have been boiled. --also, the cheese was bitter and curdled as it cooled...CHEAP CHEESE. GRILLED ARTICHOKE had been grilled but was served full of water--and--they take the heart--and it's $10. Service is hit or miss. Refills--Fuggedaboutit. Everything is really expensive in Half Moon Bay, so it is discouraging to know you've wasted your hard earned money. read more

Mullin's hosts a lovely Easter Brunch Buffet, which includes an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. The Easter bunny dropped a lot of eggs on the first hole of the Old Course. The kids had plenty of eggs to find and plenty of space to run. Everyone had plenty of eggs at the end. The brunch buffet was excellent, everything you would expect and want : - carving station with prime rib and ham - omelette station - seafood with chilled shrimp, mini-bagels and lox, oysters on the half shell - salads Perfect for the kids were: - made to order pasta station - Mac and cheese at the hot foods area - crepes which may be topped with a variety fruits, chocolate, and whipped cream - dessert table The setting was very beautiful and elegant. We hope to return and make this a family tradition. read more

We had lunch last weekend outside from the "take-out window" and went by again today with another couple and 2 different experiences. Last weekend friendly host seated us and brought wife her cobb salad & me my $18 cheeseburger & both were good along with 2 large plastic cups of ice for our $4.50 cans of diet-coke [yes $4.50 each]. No complaints and good tip to host. Now for today with other couple & no host - order food from walk-up window and seat yourselves, which is OK. Young woman taking orders with accent and mask on was very difficult to understand for any of us & a bit abrupt. My wife decided to try one of their "bottled cocktails" which was big mistake ordering a Mai Tai for $16. The drink in plastic cup did not resemble a mai tai in any way or appear to have any rum in it - 3 of us sipped it and like a weak margarita with maybe some vodka in it[?]. Wife decided to take it back as it was a terrible drink and not what she ordered. Young woman employee disagreed showing wife a generic bottle that said "mai tai" on it and no returning drink - which went into trash can. The problem with no host and walk up window is no bill AFTER service. We ordered food & drinks for wife & I and asked by person taking orders "You want to add a tip?". This is a bit confusing for ordering and picking up food at window, but we try to support local biz of any kind during Covid, so sure "Yes" please add 15% to the bill for handing us our food. What that means is the $16 "fake" mai tai actually cost $18.40 that was tossed out in trash can. Simply put management needs to step up their game to remedy simple issues like this AND also put breakfast on the menu PLEASE. Not everyone wants a hot dog, cheeseburger or fish taco's for breakfast. An easy place to grab a beer/lunch/dinner when you come in from the course. Friendly staff and decent offerings. I'm not sure anyone at our table raved about the food, but no complaints either. I tried the burger, the tuna spinach salad and eventually the chowder. All decent, but a small serving of soup and side salad might have been my favorite. It does get crowded at lunch, so grab a table quickly as they become available. read more

We went here to eat breakfast ask one of the waiter if there's available table right away the waiter told us there is no more breakfast and they have private events I said there's no table or lunch he said there's lunch but there's no table available as a waiter he should be nice and not to be so rude if his working in service industry. I ask the other waiter if they serve lunch right away he said yes and we can seat anywhere we want so we seat by the bar and the other waiter that is rude came right away and said we can't seat by the bar because we have child and it's against the in California which we didn't know but the way he said it is like we are garbage. I told him that's not the way you treat a guest he should be nice and if there no available table he should say it in nice manner to wait and when there's available table we can be seated. It should be a good day but this guy ruined it. Hope management look in to it and train there people to be courteous and respectful. read more

I've dined next door at the Ritz. I received phenomenal service and food there. Tonight we decided to try Mullins. There was some really lovely live music. While the food and wine was great, the service was crap. Without going on a rant I'll just say the time spent waiting to have our orders taken, for our food to arrive, and to receive refills on wine was unacceptable. I also observed the table next to us be completely ignored for 30 minutes. Then the woman finally received her salad, minus the dressing and by the time I left her husband still hadn't received his entrée at all. I saw them flag down the manager, who honestly wasn't making an effort in my opinion. As this was my first dining experience here I may try again in the future but I probably wouldn't make a recommendation to friends. read more

As a permanent resident of Ocean colony, we feel Mullins Bar and Grill should be an awesome perk to the local neighborhood. It would be wonderful to have a restaurant within walking distance that we can rely on and for consistent good food and an inviting welcoming atmosphere; alas it is not that place that the neighborhood hoped for. Because of its location the view is stellar, especially if sitting outside, there's the greenery of the golf course and pond,the manicured landscape overlooking the ocean, but inside the bar is different. The inside does not have a great vibe, it's lacking life and fun! Its somewhat stuffy and servers are always hard to find. Bartenders act like its an imposition to get you anything, not very friendly. The big screen TV is nice but hard to watch in its current location. Its like a corporate catering room instead of a bustling, yet relaxing enjoyable bar. How about serving some chips and salsa, nuts or something like a homemade bread or house special snack mix to go along with the drinks to draw in customers and make it worth coming in. The wine list was recently changed coinciding with an increase in prices for lower quality choices. That aside,the restaurant area has a nice big fireplace and comfy couch for watching sports on the big screen TV over the fire and it has a lovely view. Fresh flowers are always on the tables and the ambiance is usually relaxing. The biggest problem though is this establishment is never consistent on anything! We may plan to go there for a special occasion or just an evening to relax after work and inevitably when we get there, it's closed for one reason or another! Many mornings we walk by and we would stop and get a latte or cappuccino or even breakfast but it's always hit or miss whether they'll have a working espresso machine or the items we expect to order will be on the menu. Recently we were told they don't have espresso anymore because they got rid of their machine! The menu is constantly changing. They are not aware that when they had some good menu standards that customers came back for those. The current menu is extremely limited and does not take advantage of the seasonal local fish or produce. The current chef does make excellent soups and chili and the food has improved over the last chef they had; but still their menu is missing variety and is inconsistent in quality. Again hit or miss. We as hopeful steady customers are frustrated that they can't get their act together to serve a community that would be filling the restaurant every night if they could just provide consistent service and good food! It would be an improvement if they would even just answer the phone or call back when people leave a message. I have not been able to get through on the phone for 2 to 3years now and no one ever replies to voicemail messages. Here are some suggestions: Have more menu choices and consistent classics. Always have healthy food options. Have your calendar posted online so people know when you will not be open! Have special events out back with a permanent tent instead of taking over the restaurant randomly and closing it off to any other customers. People don't like when they drive or walk there only to be turned away because there's a private event or it was too slow so the staff decided to close early! Invest in the proper equipment to offer things people are asking for like lattes and other espresso drinks! How about an artisan pizza oven? Residents would love to walk down to pick up a pizza with fresh salads and reasonably priced wine for dinner on weeknights. Im sure that would be a big boost in your sales! Also make a classic choice like hamburgers so good people will crave them and come back for more by just increasing the quality of the burger and fries....hand-make the burgers, have big steakcut fries and offer high quality toppings and sides. Offer baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad or other vegetable as options. Stop saying no to customers when they ask for menu items or substitutions, be accommodating! Include more entree salads, vegan and fish selections, people are health-conscious as well these days! Offer more specials so customers are not bored with a smaller menu! Cater more to your local clients and the restaurant could be slammed with customers every night. read more

Hey, you don't have to plunk down a lot of cash and meet the monthly spending quota to enjoy a casual country club environment. And you don't have to live in Ocean Colony or Spyglass or stay at the Ritz-Carlton to be treated like a VIP at Mullins Bar and Grill. Named for the late, great "Moon" Mullins, the former Caddy's, is the perfect place to kick back for a cocktail by the fireplace, watch sports on the flat screen TV's, and order from their creative and eclectic menu. (I LOVE the Southwest Chicken Tostada Salad. Georgia usually goes for the Fish 'n Chips.) The servers and the bartenders make you feel like you're on a mini-vacation . . . well, I guess that's how it's supposed to feel when you're at "the club". Located between the Old Course and the Ocean Course across from the Ritz-Carlton with spectacular views of the ocean, Mullins has a great wine selection . . . great food . . . great service . . . and it's full of friendly people! We celebrated our anniversary at the Ritz in Half Moon Bay and decided to have dinner at Mullins and we couldn't of picked a better place when it came to the bar, food, price and staff!! We were there on a Friday night and Tony was bartending. My husband loves Negroni's and Tony made a perfect one for him. He also makes a really great coffee drink called, "The Chip Shot" so make sure you save room for an after dinner dessert drink:)! They had a band playing some great music and it made for a lively fun crowd. We made our way into dinner and had an excellent soup, salad and prime rib dinner. On Friday's they offer a special Prime Rib Dinner and it was not only tasted great, but it was a larger portion than we expected all at a great price. Roberto the Chef found out that we liked Corn Chowder and even though they were already sold out he made us some more.... now that's what I call going a step beyond. Marie, the Restaurant Manager was there on point to check in and make sure we were all set as well. It was a wonderful meal with really nice staff that were very accomodating. read more

This rating is geared toward anyone considering having a wedding reception at Mullins. We had our wedding there in spring of 2010. The food is amazing. The grounds and view are spectacular. And they do a really pro job. It'll feel like you're getting married at the Ritz (which is next door), for a tenth the cost. But it's better than the Ritz in a lot of ways, cause Mullins actually owns all the land there, so you have access to areas that Ritz guests don't. Plus, for whatever reason, the Ritz ball room has no windows! What a waste of the beautiful view. From Mullins, you have a beautiful view of the cliffs and ocean. We had two main priorities for our wedding reception - the food and the band. Mullins was very accommodating with our band. And they did a phenomenal job with the food. It was all delicious. They had us do a tasting a few months ahead of the event, and everything was so good, it was hard to choose. And they really followed through at the event. The guests all loved it. (They also let us bring a couple of food items from outside - we had cupcakes from Kara's, and we brought a traditional Filipino roast pig for cocktail hour.) They did a beautiful job with our wedding. I'd recommend it to anyone. The ONE caveat: their sales person is very awkward and unprofessional. She turned us off so much that we almost went elsewhere. I'm glad we didn't! It's worth putting up with her during the booking process. You won't have to deal with her again after that.
