You haven't had a hero until you've had a my hero hero. They're bread is my favorite hero bread anywhere and everywhere! This place is a no frills place. They seem like a old hole in a wall place, but it's part of their charm. Their menu is small but big on quality. The chicken club is the best on the island, hands down! So simple but the best flavor, best quality on the best bread. Second favorite is the champ! And they make their heroes so that nothing ends up being soggy...well unless you get one with gravy...but that's expected. They are quick to get your orders out. It is a cash establishment. But they do have an atm. They have picnic tables outside and very limited seating inside. You can park in the back or on the street. And recently they got access for customers to park in the carvel parking lot!! That huge! If you've been a long time patron, like me, then you know what a years long battle that has been haha

My Hero is an old school spot with old school charm, and it's a forever CLASSIC! I've been coming here for quite some time, it's basically a Long Island institution, but last night we stopped by since it's been a hot second, and the sandwiches were just as iconic as ever. We shared their famous chicken club with melted provolone (you will love that twist), and the breaded chicken cutlets, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and bacon make this club the cult favorite that it is. (I'm all about the bacon for the crunchy, textural, flavorful contrast.) We also shared their Italian sub, aka The Champ, which is filled with Italian meats along with 'the works.' You guys, if you do anything, savor the WORKS. Their blend of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar, and oregano is absolutely everything. (I like letting it sit for a bit so the bread gets soggy from all the oil and vinegar goodness, too.) Honestly, I could see having a BLT with 'the works' and being one happy camper, but I digress...LOL. If anyone is looking for an authentic, high quality deli, look no further than My Hero in Merrick. They are a staple through and through.

I've been coming to My Hero Deli for years and was a huge fan of the previous owners, Dominic and Anthony. They created something really special, and I'm happy to say the new owners, Chris and his partner, have totally kept that spirit alive. They're super hands-on and really care about the place. The food is just as amazing as ever actually, maybe even better. Everything is super fresh, the sandwiches are massive, and the prices are still really fair. The staff is great too, especially seeing familiar faces from back in the day who still know exactly how to make everything the way we all remember. The place has had a nice update, and the new kitchen setup is awesome. I think the old owners would definitely be proud of the improvements. Also love that they're open seven days a week now no more showing up on a Monday and being disappointed. This place has always been a favorite, and I'm so glad it's in such good hands.

Roasted Pork, Broccoli Rabe & Mozzarella on garlic bread

"My Hero" has been a Hero Lovers icon for many years! The variety of hero's are endless and the new owners have been keeping up with the times and adding some trendy new varieties to their menus! However, one of my all time favorites "Roasted Pork, Broccoli Rabe with melted mozzarella" was better than before! Today was the first time I ordered it that it was not soggy from the broccoli rabe. Each ingredient was perfectly placed with symmetry. Every bite was perfection from start to finish! It was such a delight that I had to take a pic after taking my initial bite so that I could let the new owners know how much I enjoyed it! So Delicious, you gotta try it!

Seems like My Hero has been a pretty big local spot for a long time and I've been wanting to try it for a while. With that in mind, I was able to finally get their heroes a few times over the past year. The place is very much a grab and go type of place that is small and cash only. A good thing I've noticed is that their prices seem to include tax. The sandwich I've been getting is the 'chicken club', which has chicken cutlet, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo ($13). I usually substitute honey mustard for the mayo though. I pretty much have nothing but good things to say about the sandwich. First off, the full size sandwich is huge - enough for 2 meals probably. And that's exactly how I like my heroes. The chicken cutlet is breaded nicely and fairly thin. They pack a lot of it on there and the bread also has been pretty fresh every time. It all comes together perfectly and definitely one of my favorite cheat meals in the rotation. The only other deli on LI that I frequent occassionally is Cherry Valley and I think the sandwich at My Hero delivers significantly more quality and quantity at the same price. So I'd give it 5 stars for the time being.

Never fails, you can always get a solid hero from this place love sandwiches and one of my favorite is the Bocachini. If you're gonna order the legend, make sure you're hungry. It's about 3 pounds of meat. It is unbelievable.

Best sandwiches, not that expensive and they are huge so they can serve as 2 meals...Also love catering in from them for big round heros, they are always a hit! One downside they are alwayssss busy and the line is always out the door but its worth it! read more

I'm not so sure why people are grossly overrating thing place. I went here because I was in the area and have always heard rave reviews. My immediate thought: "Maybe it's another version of Cherry Valley? I need to try it." I was incredibly underwhelmed by the variety of heroes. I've seen much better at many places. I think I could have found the same exact heroes at any other deli and the quality would have been equal or better to this place. The only upside is the cost to food ratio. The heroes are cheap, but only because it's nothing special. $11 bucks for a large hero, bag of chips and Snapple. So, if you just want a sandwich and you're passing by, go for it. Just be sure not to go out of your way to try it. read more

I gave the place four stars because the price is unbeatable and the chicken cutlet with melted American and bacon is unreal. Food is always fresh. The place would be unbeatable if they got bread delivered from Brooklyn. Not a fan of Long Island bread. C'mon guys, give it a try. Change your bread or at least do a test run and offer Brooklyn bread to your customers. I for one would be willing to pay an additional 10-15% more for a hero with superior quality bread. read more

Ok im writting this being pissed of trying to call the place for 45 god damn minutes for them to answer the phone. clearly its off the hook because there busy and dont want to deal with phone orders. thats rediculous its 2012 get call waiting or have some one do phone orders as there job. i mean i really have to go there and wait 45 mins for a chicken cutlet sandwich. NOT WORTH IT!! pretend like you need the buisness and answer the phone! read more

I have to say with the line out the door the entire time I thought this place had to be amazing. Boy were we disappointed. Prices were reasonable and maybe that is what draws the crowd however it was no better or worse than any random deli. Not sure what the hype is about but people need to venture out if they think this is so great as per the other reviews. read more

My hero is my go to sandwich shop. The prices are very good. The sizes of the sandwiches are fantastic. They get crowded so plan on waiting on line. Very worth the wait. The guys behind the counter work hard and are very friendly. The customers are a lot of regulars like myself. Their chicken cutlet is the most popular item. I have gotten their bowtie paste, cole slaw and macaroni salads which are all very good. I wished they would open earlier so I can pick up lunch and take to work to have later in the day. Thy have a few table to eat inside and outside weather permitting. Most customers just pick up. The bread is always fresh which is key in making sandwiches. read more

A couple week ago my boyfriend Charlie C. took me to My Hero. His favorite sandwich shop. He has been coming here since 1973. I had the fried fish hero. It was the best !!!! I loved it. Now a couple weeks later I was craving it. Very yummy and a huge hero. Had to wait on a long line, we were out the door, but it moved fast and well worth it. The guys behind the counter were well organized and moved the line quickly. They will make your hero anyway you want. The prices are great. Nothing fancy at all inside. Very casual. If your looking for fast service, over stuffed heroes, this is the place. I could only finish half. They wrapped up the other half for me to take home. Great stuff for the money. read more

Don't enjoy this place at all. Being from merrick I have frequently this place a few times since it is, for some odd reason, very popular. Every time I have gotten a sandwich here there has been something wrong- once my hero was moldy, another time there were dead gnats in the lettuce used on my sandwich, and every time I am in there order there are flies or gnats around. If there weren't so many gnats and flies and the place was cleaned up, I would have no problem with My Hero; however, that is not the case!!! Not sure how they pass health inspections!!!!! read more

Love the food here. I've been coming here for a long time. Prices are good and food is great. The chicken club and grilled chicken with broccoli rabe are my favorite heros. The veal parm with spaghetti is my favorite hot dish from there. The only negatives are that they don't take cash and there is not a lot of room for parking but the low prices make up for that. I don't live in the area but when I'm in the mood for a hero, I always go to my hero. Discovered this place over 25 years ago. The bread is amazing--fresh and tasty like none other I've ever had. They overstuff their hero's too. I have never tasted a hero as good as my hero anywhere and I had hero's from a well known place in the 5 towns area, a well known bethpage place and a dirty 24 hour joint off peninsula blvd the muncher kids all know about.My hero is worth the ride,worth the wait and worth the price.From whatever hero I get,the first bite to the last is amazing. They do a ton of party hero's in May and June from graduation,etc. parties. Not a fancy deli but a damn good hero large or small.Dont get discouraged about lack of parking spots or line out the door. Just get there. Take a bus,ask your grandma for a ride,take your old mans car while he's napping,hitchhike,get your skateboard out,or just plain hike there.If your hungry, go to My Hero ! read more

The restaurant offers half and full size dishes. We mostly ordered full sized, and the portions were humongous! For starters, we ordered the Fried Zucchini and the Baked Clams. Both were excellent, and it was at this point that I knew that I would be eating a lot during our visit here. For entree, we ordered the Frutti Di Mare, the Shrimp Oreganata, the Broiled Salmon, the Eggplant Parmigiana and the Chicken Scarpariello. I tried all of them and each was delicious. As someone who's a big fan of seafood, my favorite was the Frutti Di Mare. They were even able to make it spicy with a Fra Diavolo sauce. For dessert, we had a Napoleon cake. I'm not sure when the last time I had a Napoleon cake, but I didn't know that they tasted so good. This one was flawlessly flaky inside and the pastry cream was perfect. Although it was rainy when we dined here, the view of the water is beautiful from here. I highly recommend Fabio's for a great dinner with family and friends.

Other than a giant map of Puerto Rico & a couple of mini-signs of hot sauces, there is very little wall decor. The very friendly service makes up for the minimalist interior. Order at the counter & pick up your food in cardboard containers on trays. Comprehensive menu of many kinds of empañadas plus chicken tenders, side diy, desserts, sodas, etc. Pre-made empañadas are brought to the restaurant, placed in small, open bags, are kept warm in a glass case & are replenished throughout the day. We each got a Combo meal which included 2 empanadas, a soda & fries (rice & beans, as a substitute, cost a dollar more). When our order arrived incorrect, they were swift to fix it in a mist gracious way. Prices are very affordable.

We were greeted by a very kind staff instantly and our bartender Luke (who I definitely do not know) had us seated and comfortable right away. Lemme tell you I felt like royalty there, Luke is very knowledgable about the whole menu and the place and you can tell he is very passionate for his work, and proud that he works there. For an appetizer I got the rice balls, something small and quick before my blood sugar was in the negatives. I was saddened that there was no meat involved because I am growing boy who needs protein but they were extremely good regardless. Very flavorful, and I was really impressed off rip and excited for what was to come. Oh yeah side note skittles has an allergy to literally EVERYTHING. Peanut, treenuts, shellfish, cheese, water, etc. So he literally didn't want anything. Onto the entree! Luke and I discussed what's the most flavorful thing I can obtain with a hefty amount of protein. He looked me dead in my eye and pointed to the Short rib ragu and told me to add a chicken cutlet. He was so confident in that dish I had to get it. I received it and it was really good, it hit the spot. I thought maybe a little more garlic throughout, I thought the salt was overdone a tad, but the pasta was awesome the short rib was a good portion, and the chicken cutlet was your typical long island cutlet. Actually a great dish that I would get again. I then was in need of a sweet treat. That's how you know I was satisfied.. I don't like desserts or I'm not a fan of really any sugary delight, but I was so relaxed I felt like I had to. I got this hardened chocolate shell with three flavors of ice cream inside and it was good! Again I'm not too fond of sweets so after about five bites I was dead, but then Doctor Bs wife spawned out of literal nowhere and ate the rest. Then about 12 more people arrived and watching Luke in action was like watching Jalen brunson drop 45 on the spurs. Total confidence and was extremely efficient. He then made me a fig martini which also was cool! Had a nice color and a perfect starting drink for the knicks game. I have to give my props to the rest of the staff too, including the manager. Everyone worked very well together and it makes me very happy to see a business come together with the same goal to work collectively to run the place as efficient as possible. Great job, will be back.

I had the pleasure of visiting My Hero restaurant today, which has recently undergone a change in ownership. Excited to see what the new management had in store, I decided to try their renowned Bang Bang Shrimp sandwich. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delightful! Yeah so if I wanna grab a hero I come here. I love coming here especially how welcoming they are here. Everything is fresh by the way. I usually come n get my chicken cutlet hero with lettuce, tomato, mayo. It is prob my favorite thing ever besides getting regular ham, lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo. They can get really packed but I also avoid that. Their prices are very reasonable and they have a lot you can pick from. This is a def trip to make around merrick read more

My Hero is amazing! The line gets long but it is so worth it! I like making a wrap here with chicken cutlet, lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and ranch! So good. Old school place. Love eating outdoors when it is nice out. The guys who work there are super nice and remember your face and order after a few visits! I don't live that close to this hero place, but its worth the drive. I love the Champ with the works and my wife just loves the Chicken Club. Every so often we will take the ride and pick up a couple of hero's and have half at lunch and then we swap and I have her other half for dinner and she has mine. Love it!!!! read more

Very disappointed in the quality and the service since covid. They overcharge every time. They never get all the sandwiches correct. And the last two times we ordered there was grey hair. None of us have grey hair, yet the guy who took our order does. Yuck. C'mon man. read more
