The sushi is always fresh, packed thoughtfully, and the staff are very kind. My go-to is the Niwana roll ($12), which is tuna, salmon, avocado, yellow tail, and crab salad. I ordered My Tokyo Plate and was very impressed with the flavor and freshness. The fish did not have any aftertaste as sometimes I run into with other restaurants. I ordered via door dash and even for takeout, the meal was presented beautifully. The miso soup that came with the meal was flavorful with ample tofu and seaweed. I had red bean Mochi for dessert and they were wonderful. I have been literally waiting for this place to get a yelp profile so I could review it. I tried it very soon after they opened. Keep in mind, I love japanese food, and Ive been disappointed before. My Tokyo is excellent. I haven't tried everything, but right now the menu is pretty small. Ive been three times, had the lunch combo box once and the katsu don twice. With the lunch combo you get chefs choice sushi, miso soup, assorted tempura, gyoza, and some pickled veggies i believe. The sushi, tempura, and sides were all delicious and even the gyoza - which can be pretty standard most places - were extra tasty. Would reccomend to anyone there at lunch. The katsu don (fried pork cutlet and egg over rice in a bowl) is a knockout. You'd think it sounds like a pretty simple dish, but it is not easy to make it as delicious as they do. Trust me. The service is good. friendly, prompt. I went during the day all three times so not sure how they handle during dinnertime when it gets busy. The prices are also super affordable. Had dinner on Sunday evening on 10/6/19 with some friends after Church. Ordered chicken karaage, California roll, Tempura dinner, chicken oyako bowl, tonkatsu. Disclaimer: I can not judge the sushi/sashimi as we do not eat raw fish. I really wanted to like this place after reading the review in the local paper, Hudson Independent. However, it was not meant to be. I asked if the dumplings were home made and, to my disappointment, was told that they come out of a package. Why? I expected much more from a CIA trained chef and one with this much experience. NOTABLE: - my wife loves a good oyako bowl and theirs was on point. Probably the best thing we ordered. - Chicken karaage had good flavor and was fried well (not greasy). NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: - California roll was below average - rice had mushy texture (need to upgrade the rice quality to sushi rice and not go cheap here), was under seasoned, if not seasoned at all. My son will always eat a full California roll if it's good - he didn't want to finish this one. -Tempura - small portions, greasy so not fried well (I don't like eating fried foods that are dripping with oil) and underwhelming plating/presentation. Lost my appetite as soon as I saw it and new I made a mistake ordering it. Ugh! - Tonkatsu - nothing special with the sauce or the fried pork. - I really wish the rice had the proper texture/consistency. Would have enjoyed my dinner more if the rice was good. I didn't regret too much but left disappointed and unsatisfied. Sadly, I don't feel any motivation or desire to try it again. In fact, our friends said Sakura Gardens in Hastings-on-Hudson is way better. That's my next stop for Japanese food. read more

My Tokyo has been open for a few months now, so I'm a little surprised no one has gotten around to Yelping it yet. Surprised because it's worth getting the word out there that Tarrytown's Main Street has an excellent new Japanese restaurant. The Mrs and I popped in on a Thursday for a quick meal (sustenance before heading off to our lesson at the Fred Astaire dance studio) and they were able to accommodate us despite a couple of "Reserved" tables and a growing dinner rush. It's a small space but maximized well-- and tastefully decorated. They're also BYOB--I assume until they're licensed--but for the time being a harmonious outcome for the owner of River View Wine & Spirits, literally across the street, who told me he's been keeping fully-stocked on sake. The menu here features the typical sushi and sashimi as well as some Japanese apps and rice bowls (there's also poke). We split standard salmon, tuna and yellowtail rolls and one of the special rolls (Mucho Tuna). The salmon, tuna and particularly the yellowtail were exceptional-- I'm not sure how to describe the rice other than to say it is head and shoulders above what you'd get at most sushi places. Our Mucho Tuna ended up being a bit mucho. We'd skip it next time and get some more of the standard rolls- or maybe a yellowtail appetizer if it's on the menu. That is also to say, we will most certainly be back. read more

I somehow went to My Tokyo for the first time since It opened last week. I went with my Mom and a friend and we had a very nice table. There were people all around the restaurant but we did not find it too noisy to enjoy our meal. They gave us water in a nice clear bottle, which I love, and were sure to refill it anytime it was empty. I was not super hungry when I went, so I just ordered a chicken temporary roll and pork gyoza, which were delicious. My Mom and friend ordered the Mango Roll and said it was very good as well. After hearing many positive things about this restaurant, my mom and I decided to try it for dinner on 10/9/19. As our 1-Star rating might suggest, it was pretty terrible. When we walked in we were greeted by an obviously uninterested hostess who instructed us to sit where we wanted. We sat...and then we waited. After a few minutes she came and asked if we were ready to order, except she'd never given us menus...OK so not great but we figured that anyone can have a blip so fine. We ordered one appetizer, two entrees, and hot green tea. We waited a while and there was still no tea. We informed the sushi chef as he passed by that we still had not received it (the hostess/waitress was nowhere to be found). Eventually she came back out and asked us if we wanted tea?! I mean...yes, that would be why we ordered it... Then she brought the green tea and warned us that it was hot. It was lukewarm. The appetizer took a long time to come out, and the portion was small, but it tasted pretty good. Meanwhile the couple next to us asked the hostess if she could take their order. She told them to give her a minute and vanished again. The couple put on their coats and left. A little while later a SECOND couple got up and left from lack of service. Mind you, there are like 6 tables in this place, so 1/3 of their customers left. Finally, our entrees came out. They were supposed to come with soup. The soup did not come. We asked for it and it was brought. It was impossible to get anything without asking. Refills on water, soy sauce, etc...things that should be pretty standard. The food wasn't great. My mom's entree, tonkatsu, was lukewarm and dry. She mentioned to the guy that it was not hot and he said that it was because our second entree took longer to make...ok, so time them better? This must be a thing that other restaurants do. The demeanor of all staff was that they really didn't care if customers were satisfied or even if they stayed. My entree, a rice bowl with fish, tasted OK but nothing to write home about. In short, we will not be back and you should avoid. read more

Went to My Tokyo on a Friday evening with my husband and toddler daughter. We had a lovely meal. Friendly, accommodating staff, very fresh sushi and poke bowl, the Japanese fried chicken appetizer was also delicious and not overly greasy. The star discovery for us was the desert, "milk shaved ice". It's inspired by a Japanese street food and had fresh mango & whipped coconut cream. Delicious! Celebrating my daughter's birthday and she wanted sushi bc it's her favorite. We'd never tried this spot but my mother in law said she had been and that the food was good. Ordered a large take out order for 7 people. No one liked their food. Ordered a 7 piece tuna sushi dinner. It came with a weird unexpected sauce. Poke bowls had almost no tuna. Salmon teriyaki was overcooked. Miso soup tasted like dishwater. Spent $200, waited over an hour for delivery and threw most of it in the garbage. So disappointed. read more

My Tokyo offers a straight forward, beautiful and fresh eating experiencing for those looking for authentic Japanese cuisine. The pork gyoza arrived to order with a crispy skirt and a delicate filling. Next we had the katsu curry croquettes which were light, airy and had the perfect amount of curry flavoring. For our mains we had the sushi dinner which tasted just like fresh sushi is supposed to taste "clean" and not "fishy" and the kimchi yakiudon, perhaps the only deviation from the Japanese menu but delicious none the less.
