Why would you ruin such a (previously) delicious recipe for tender sweet fried clams?? We brought back our order of fried clams which were over cooked in old tasting oil, rubbery and doused w some sort of Cajun seasoning. They made another order, we returned those too. Really disappointed in the quality of the food considering they are charging Newport prices. $46 for fried whole clams were tasteless and cold....fries overdone and way too much salt. the fish and chips .....frozen pre portioned fish with thick batter, greasy and soggy near the fish....just horrible. I was looking online for a smaller seafood restaurant in the Charlestown area and came upon the NO Clam Bar. I was on my way there but called to find out the price of today's clam plate. Monday at 1 pm - no answer, and no voicemail pickup. At 2 pm - no answer. 401-409-1151. Then I read the other reviews. My feeling is, if they can't even answer their phone they must have service problems. I'll go elsewhere. read more

Last summer (2024), I would have easily given this place 5 stars. It was hands-down the best lobster roll in Rhode Island. Unfortunately, this year's visit didn't live up to that standard. The lobster roll came out with a soggy bun, no butter, and what seemed like half the meat compared to last time. Last year, the roll was perfectly toasted with just the right amount of butter, making it unforgettable. I'm hoping this was just an off night, and that my next visit will be back to the quality I remember. read more

I am so excited that I got to stop here yesterday while at at soccer tournament in the area. It is exactly how it is described, a shack- near the water which in my book equals fantastic food! I wanted the whole belly clams but they ran out (I could go down a star for this but I won't because everything else is so good) my hot buttered lobster roll was perfect, my del's frozen lemonade was refreshing. My son ordered fish and chips. I had to taste! Yum! The clam chowder could have have more clam "chunks" in it but overall was really tasty. My husband had the fried scallops. I again tasted, and I loved it. Still happy I went with my lobster roll though. It's a cute place right near the beach and I can't wait to go to the area again so I can stop in. I went to the N.O. Clam shack today and it was a HUGE disappointment. The New England chowder was green from all the oregano, too thick with flour and the consistency of pudding. It was just bad. I could have handed the consistency but the not the overwhelming taste of oregano. the fries were actually too salty, if you can believe it. The lobster roll had very little meat, but a lot of lettuce, and celery (which I definitely don't like in a lobster roll). There was more bun than lobster. The cheeseburger was fine but was $17 and unremarkable so the price was pretty insulting for the equivalent of a fast food hamburger. Total cost for lunch was $86 for 2 cups of chowder, burger, lobster roll and 2 waters. read more

N.O. has order ahead on their website, a ready text was sent exactly at the predicted time, and the pay lot next door let us park free since to pick up our N.O. order. All good! The large scallop order had me stuffed for the rest of the day, and the clam strips platter was plentiful. We were too full for our buttery chowders, but they warmed up nicely the following day. The kids meal was the perfect size, and adorably named. In this not quite post-Covid world, N.O. is a good outdoor dining space, hence good for distancing. Since they serve Del's you save a trip across the street for frozen lemonade. Fried food from a clam shack might not be anything new, but this was one very tasty, comforting meal. If we're lucky enough to camp at Breachway again, we'll be back. read more

YES! I live literally right down the street from this place and I couldn't be happier that they have finally opened up. We moved here a year ago and this cute little waterfront shack was empty. I went down today to grab a late lunch and everything was absolutely delicious. I got the Fried Scallop plate and the fries are absolute perfection. Crisp, flavorful and fried to perfection. These are the type of fries that leave you wanting more and as soon as I opened up my to-go container (Certified compostable Plant Fiber that turns to soil in 90 days) I knew that these fries were legit. The scallops were juicy, flavorful and had a delicious crisp batter on them. I also grabbed a Watermelon Dels frozen lemonade to enjoy while I waited (Waited = all of two minutes) for my order to be ready. For some reason this Dels tasted so much better than some I have had in the past. I mean, they should all be the same but for some reason this one was perfection. (I'm assuming it's a coke out of a can vs coke from McDonald's situation. A little pricey, but it is conveniently located near the beach, and the food is good quality. The N.O. Bar Clam Shack is a great place to stop and grab a quick bite if you're at the beach or in the area. There is abundant outdoor seating if you don't want to eat on the beach, and it has a nice view of some docks. The clam chowder and fish and chips were savory, and the portions were fair for the price. I would definitely return to try other items on the menu another day. My only constructive feedback is to lower the prices by a dollar or two, especially on an entrée like the fish and chips. Two lobster rolls and a bottle of water was 60 bucks. I have zero problem paying high prices for good food, but this wasn't it. We shared a hot and cold lobster roll. Flavor-wise, they were both pretty bland, especially the hot one, which seemed to have very little if any butter. There were also a few bites with bits of lobster shell, which is not ideal. But the worst part is how incredibly stingy they were with lobster meat. The roll was all lettuce. A VERY sparse amount of lobster per roll. For upwards of $30 a roll, you just have to do better than that. The location is amazing and the place itself is cool and has a nice simple menu. But they took a long time to get the order ready (two total customers the entire time we were there). I've had incredibly tasty lobster rolls at Monahan's, Aunt Carrie's, Champlin's, George's, Matunuck Oyster Bar and even Salty's on the beach that were all bigger, tastier and less expensive. We tried your place for the 1st time yesterday. 2 qts New England clam chowder and 1 dozen clam cakes killed a $50 bill but no problem if the food was good. Cham chowder was wicked thick and no taste, the clam cakes were dense and heavy and again no taste. I was looking for a clam somewhere in my food but never saw a single one. We go here quite a bit on our way back/to the beach. It's a quick place that has some decent options and it's very nice to sit out on the deck with a nice view. The employees have usually been very nice, and they're mostly college aged kids. I love getting the Del's frozen lemonades from them and I have also gotten some decent chicken fingers there. It's fast food but with mostly seafood, so it's not anything super special but a great meal for the beach. The lobster rolls are also a big hit in my household. The prices are a little up there but it's in a beach town, so it makes sense. I'd definitely suggest this place for a quick and easy beach meal. read more

Meh - it's the only way to describe it. They seem to be more into fried Chix sandwiches than seafoood. Clam chowder was very thick with lots of pepper. Almost like gravy for biscuits & gravy. Yuck. Fritters were ok. They have weird food like lobster fries, shrimp fries, etc as an app. What the heck are lobster fries?!? If you serve good seafood you don't have to Frankenstein it! Sheesh. Lobster roll was $31. No way. Lots of people and food took forever to come out.. Outdoor deck with views of the water are nice though. Don't let the curb appeal trick you into thinking they are a solid clam shack. Keep looking. read more

Overpriced and terrible. I ordered the "famous" chicken sandwich and requested no hot sauce. When I bit in, it was covered in a sauce that burnt my lips and made it impossible to eat anything else. The sandwich itself was maybe a total of 3 ounces of chicken. Just very disappointed. read more

Really rooting for them to figure out how to better their business cause probably the worst experience ever and I'm a very patient and understanding person .. this is a nice little shack before you get to the breachway; great location, great online ordering experience, $27 for a lobster roll with no fries or slaw is borderline excessive but I get it; large portion of lobster; chicken sandwich was pretty good and that came with fries so that was good; food was 6/10 but would have been better if I got it on time.. placed my online order and received a text 45 minutes later it was ready, pull up to the place and they're slammed so I'm already expecting that the text might not be accurate that's fine I really don't mind at all.. see three service windows, a line of people ready to order in front of one of the windows and no signs for a online pick up window so I walk up to the empty window and ask the girl working if there's a window specific for online orders I received a text it was ready.. she bluntly says you just have to "wait in line sir".. I get it they're slammed and it's new so they're service hasn't gotten straighten out just yet. No problem so I head to the back of the line and wait 20 minutes; her customer service with every other customer seemed fair but when I got back to her I once again said my name and that I had an online order, she looked at her computer and said rudely said "was it paid for?" And I said yes, she looked around and one of her coworkers said "there's one right there" pointing to bag literally right next to her station. She ignores them or didn't hear them and said I just had to wait at another window for my name to be called.. before I could even ask her if that bag was mine she had called for next in line.. I work in restaurants I never want to be rude so I'm like she knows what she's doing I'll just go over and wait like she said.. they were clearly slammed, people were getting mad but once again I wait another 20 min while names were getting called. Finally I've had enough because I had people waiting in the car so I go over to the pick up window and tell them my name and that it was an online order. The girl grabs the bag that had been sitting right next to her for 40 minutes and is like "here you go ur all set" with a straight face Now I'm baffled.. I got a text 45 minutes ago and I came up to you the first time, and my food was right next to you and you told me to wait in line.. I waited I came back up to you my food still right next to you and you told me I had to wait at the pick up window I waited and finally I came up and asked and you have the nerve to act like it just came up??? I told her and whoever else could hear me that my food had been sitting there for 45 minutes; I told her my name twice and that it was an online order and that I got a text and she both times she very rudely was like just wait.. they didn't apologize they didn't offer for fresh food they all just looked at each other like 'who's fault is this?' I didn't even care to wait to see the owner or manager I just wasted an hour of beach time I walked away. $70 for mediocre food that probably would have been fantastic and on top of that I tipped online. Once again i get it; they're slammed, maybe she was having a bad day, there was clearly miscommunication between staff and maybe I should have raised my voice earlier. I wasn't and still aren't looking for an apology, or new food and I'm not looking for her to get into trouble. I'm just asking for accountability. I just want the staff to be properly trained to care and notice if someone has been waiting for a long time or if food had been sitting there for an hour. I just want a sign for online orders because the online ordering was easy and the text notification was accurate but I was still forced to wait because there was no organization. She asked me if it was paid for? She should know I can't finish the order without paying online. My bag of food was the only one near her window not not near the "pick up" window. Why was it there? So disappointed! I used to love this place and was excited that it has reopened. The chowder, which I used to like, had no clams - well, maybe two little bits. Ordered calamari -- greasy, the breading was falling off, it was under seasoned, pale, and no pepper rings, no sauce. Really? Since reopening in 2021, the food here has been extremely disappointing. I've tried it several times and never had a good experience. The chicken tenders were mostly bread with little chicken. The burgers don't come with any toppings (they don't even have lettuce and tomato, even upon request). My final time there I ordered a hot dog, thinking there was really no way to make a bad hot dog, but somehow they managed to create something tasteless. I'm not sure how it was cooked- maybe boiled. No sign of being grilled. Very rubbery and bland. Finally, a friend orders the fish and chips and after biting into the fish found pieces of bone in it. This used to be a decent place but under the new management the food is consistently of very poor quality. read more
