I recently visited Nando's Austin, and overall, it was a pretty good experience. I ordered the mac and cheese, medium peri-peri chicken, fries, and the naughty natas for dessert. The mac and cheese was decent and had a very light flavor, the chicken pieces were huge but tasted like rotisserie chicken (it was okay but didn't blow me away), and the fries were alright but not the best for reheating later. The dessert, however, was really good--it reminded me of a Danish pastry. The standout for me was the passion fruit frozé--it was amazing and so refreshing! I sat outside, and the environment was nice, but unfortunately, my meal was a bit disrupted by flies, which was a little annoying. On the plus side, the servers were very friendly, and I appreciated being able to use their Wi-Fi while I was there. Tried out Nando's as a I heard they had a recently new location down here in Austin! Parking was right across the street in a parking garage. For now they don't do reservations, so I went soon after they opened. I was warmly greeted by the hostesses and taken to my seat instantly (woo! no wait). It was very quiet inside and they had music playing, but not too loud. You are given a QR Code to scan, or you can go up to the counter if you want to order with someone and have more interaction (and if you have questions). They periodically have people going around also if you have any questions! I ended up ordering the Chicken Breasts (Medium level), the Peri Chips (fries) w/ Ranch, and their Pineapple Lemonade! Everything was delicious, and getting my order only took about 10-15 minutes. The chicken was full of flavor and wasn't dry, and the chips were well seasoned! To me, the Ranch just tasted like regular ranch, so not sure what makes it "Peri Ranch". Next time, I would definitely get a hotter flavor! First, the food sat behind the cashier for 45 minutes even after we asked if it was done. Of course, they said "no!" So we waited and waited. When we brought it to the attention of the manager he looked perplexed and offered a bottle of dressing we have yet to open. I don't understand how the economy being so bad and have such terrible quality. Please stay away from this place, unless you're ok with wasting your money. I did very little research besides the menu and was unaware that it was a self service restaurant with prices that reflect a waiter based joint. I have never ordered and kind of food on my phone...that right...zero doordash, favor, etc...so counter service it was...again very friendly and helpful. As for seating...it feels like people stacked on top of each other...not even enough room to walk in between tables without turning sideway...and it is extremely load...no casual conversations happening between the wife and I without raising our voices to be heard...the food...The chicken was delicious and I really dig the spice flavor...Wife went with the boneless chicken thighs....along with the "medium" sauce...very tender but small for the price along with 2 sides...fries and Peri mac....I went with half chicken with "Hot" sauce....chicken was uber tender and sauce was great, although I did go for a bottle of extra hot and it was very good...along with 2 sides....Rice and Mash....the flavoring on the rice was something new to us and it was really good...As for the sides overall were small and especially the Peri Mac for the $$...Some may be use to a dining experience like this, but it was truly not for us...but I will deep dive the Peri-Peri flavor profile to use at home. read more

Finally noticed they were taking to-go orders online so I thought I'd give them a try today. I've had Nando's many times as I grew up in Canada. Anyways, after having been open for quite some time you'd think they would have some of their logistics figured out by now. I was behind two people when I entered the restaurant. There was a sign that said please wait to be greeted before entering the restaurant and I think that caused some confusion because we just stood there for a minute or two. Another group entered the restaurant from the exit and instead of lining up behind me, they decided to stand right next to me. The two people in front of me walk up to the cashier to order their food. A female worker opened up another cash register and called up the group of guys next to me to take their orders without even asking who was next in line. I was pretty annoyed because they did not even know what they wanted and they went and got the rest of their group from the seating area and just held up the line. Mind you I was just there to pick up an online order smh. Anyhow, after I got my order as I was leaving I noticed there was a cluster of people by the door - clearly, they were also confused about where to go because of the sign. They need to either have a hostess at the front to direct people or just remove the sign. Now let's get the food: The best part of the meal was the Portuguese tart - it was very fresh and hot. And, I must admit, I have even adopted and become a fan of the flavorful, low heat lemon & herb, but first choice is always to be baptized in the holy garlic peri-peri and that beautiful kick of heat. I'd love to see better allocation of larger tables for larger parties, instead of seating parties of two quickly across the whole restaurant while parties of four wait 30+ minutes at a minimum. Back in the day Nando's was order at the counter then find your table. Now it's wait for a table, order from a QR menu or back at the counter then wait some more. It's inefficient and needlessly complicated. The manger is super nice and I'm sure deeply committed to making this location the best it can be. Oh, the bathroom sinks are too shallow so there's water all over the bathroom floors. They need a skid mat or adjustment to the sinks. It's scary. read more

I've been twice. I used to regularly eat at Nando's in England 20-odd years ago, and was psyched when I learned there was going to be an Austin location. There's just something missing here. My palate says the marinade is lacking acid and the sauce just doesn't have the same peppery kick as what I'm used to. I'm not talking heat, but the actual pepper flavor. It's just kind of bland. The thigh sandwich was the most disappointing. The entire sandwich was a single, smallish boneless thigh that was just overwhelmed by the bread. Would not recommend. The fries also tasted of old, burnt oil. The quarter chicken was a much better plate, with the mashed potatoes and slaw. The flavor still wasn't quite there but it at least seemed like the chicken was the star. If I go back that's what I'm sticking with. Honestly I'm still just a little burned by that sandwich. Service was friendly, the place was clean and brightly decorated, the music was welcome, and the prices were mostly reasonable. This was not my first time at Nando's, having grown up in a country that had at least one location in every shopping mall, but I was still excited to try their first location in Austin as it reminded me a little bit of home! Unfortunately, with them being so new, we ended up having to wait 2 hours before we were able to be seated (we put our name down around 6pm on opening week), which did dampen the experience a little bit. The restaurant itself was on theme with other Nando's restaurants--cozy and warm with attractive decor. The staff were very friendly and welcoming even after having to deal with what I'm sure was an insanely busy opening week for them. For our appetizer, we ordered the Halloumi Sticks with Chili Jam. We were a little disappointed with this one--the halloumi sticks weren't as fresh as we were expecting and seemed to have already hardened. The sweetness of the chili jam didn't really go well with the halloumi either, in my opinion. At $8.29 for 5 sticks, we didn't think this was worth the price. For our entrees, we ordered the PERi PERi Chicken Bowl and the Chicken Rainbow Bowl, both with Medium spice. The Medium sauce wasn't as spicy as I had hoped, but one nice thing is that Nando's has all their other PERi PERi flavors in bottles available to grab and try, so we were able to mix and match some--we really liked their mild garlic sauce! I was also pleasantly surprised at how big the portions were and the quality of the food for the price. The Chicken Bowl was served with a bed of arugula salad mix, hummus, and Portuguese rice for only $12.99. The Chicken Rainbow Bowl came with sliced avocado and some additional grilled veggies alongside the salad and rice for only $14.99. The food itself was tasty and hearty, though the chicken wasn't as warm as I would've liked. That being said, it was still a nice balanced meal. We couldn't finish our food and had to take the rest to-go which I ate for lunch the next day. Extra value! All in all, Nando's is worth a visit maybe once the hype has died down and the wait times aren't as long. We came here on New Year's day and we were able to be seated immediately on the outside patio. It was chilly but it beat the 1.5 hour inside wait time. Since it was our first time there, the hostess explained the selection of flavors and spice ranges and how ordering worked. We ended up ordering online and paying from our table and shortly after our food was served to us. I decided to get something pretty... safe? so I got the chicken breast sandwich and added avocado. The sandwich ingredients were simple but let me tell you, that chicken was packed with flavor. As for the brussels sprouts... i n c r e d i b l e. Crispy. Earthy. And the ranch sauce drizzled on top really capped it off nicely. We were silently fighting over who was going to finish those brussels sprouts. The red sangria was light with some tasty chopped fruit. I can't say enough about the service.
