First thought when I saw the building, boxy, dull, out dated. Once I walked in i took all that back. It was a quaint well decorated and modern restaurant with bamboo decorations and red accents, and a nice buddha. Very warm and chic. I was pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend took me here for a casual date, his co-worker recommended the place and she stated this was her spot b/c she lived nearby. The food was great, they provided 2 menus; one thai and the other indian. so please correct yourself, yelp. This is an indian/thai fusion restaurant. We had lotus crisps, roti, and curries. Both of which were exceptional and well made, the lassi was nice and made on the spot mixing mango puree with yogurt. We had a decent dessert of pancakes, not that memorable but i do recall it was good. We didn't try the thai but I plan on coming back here with family and having a formal dinner. They also had a bar and a party room, they were modern and savvy. I would return and try the other plates, the servings were just right and normal for the money. I believe the prices were reasonable. Nan King would would have received 5 stars if it wasn't for the service. Their food is always delicious and made with quality ingredients. They have a huge variety including traditional Thai, Hakka, and traditional Indian food. Their Thai and Hakka (Indian Chinese Fusion) gets a 5 star rating, but their Indian is nothing special. They have a nice semi-elegant atmosphere. They need to improve on their service. My bill for myself and one other is usually about $60 for an appetizer, rice, noodles, and a chicken entree. After a long and bad day the husband and I came here after work and we were not disappointed! We had the steamed vegetable dumplings and chicken spring rolls for appetizer and they were so delicious! For a cocktail I had the Hillside Cosmopolitan and it was great and super strong just what I needed! For entrees we had the Chicken Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice which I highly recommend! This restaurant used to be one of my favorite's before. However, I'm not sure if the ownership has changed or they let go of the old chef but this place has changed for the worst. I came here with my family to celebrate my sister's birthday. The Staff needs to be excluded as they were extremely nice and cooperative. The food here is terrible. For our appetizers we ordered chicken tom-yum soup and chicken hot & sour soup. We also got the chicken satay. The chicken in the chicken tom-yum tasted really bad but our server was able to quickly change it to vegetarian tom yum soups. The chicken satay was delicious and well cooked. For our entree we ordered, haka chili chicken, chicken nanking fried rice, chili shrimp, haka chicken noodles and nanking vegetables. The only thing that tasted decent was the haka chili chicken and even that was mediocre. Our entire evening was ruined by the food selection. Everything tasted horrible. The chili shrimp was spoiled. It was disgusting, I took one bite and had to spit it out on my plate because you can taste just spoiled it was. I really like the ambiance of Nan King. The people are pleasant and they make a pretty darn good Chicken Tikka Masala! However I could not possibly recommend this restaurant. While the employees are nice, they're incredibly slow! I tried eating here twice and had a bad experience both times. The first time they completely forgot to bring one order; it took me nearly 20 minutes to finally flag someone down to get my food. The second time I had to wait 30 minutes for an order of nan. My recent visit was the last straw. There was a smell coming from the kitchen that was unbearable. I would have left if my family weren't already eating. We went with a large party for Father's Day and upon walking to our table, we noticed the entire booth, floors and seat cushions were dirty. After asking the waitress to kindly clean the area, I saw her get angry and mumble under her breath. Not to mention she didn't even clean the area thoroughly - just one swipe with a wet cloth. For Father's Day, the restaurant mandated it be buffet style only, which is fine. However the food was cold, with huge trays of food just lying on each tray like slop. It was so unappetizing to look at but as some of my guests were fasting for Ramadan - they had hope it looked and tasted delicious. It did not. The food is what you would expect from indo-Chinese, fried, corn-starchy and saucy. But to have this type of cuisine be cold and dry, sitting at a dirty table with 6-7 waiters just standing there ready to be angry If you requested anything - it could have easily ruined our Father's Day dinner. Water was never filled and plates just sat there, at that point I didn't even bother asking the staff because honestly it felt like the restaurant was perfectly comfortable being mediocre. For some reason, the tables were all packed, I overheard some families complaining as well, but the restaurant just doesn't seem to care. They cashed in regardless. I write this review in hopes of letting others know that there are so many other Indian Chinese restaurants at this point where food is hot and delicious, and the waiters/waitresses are friendly, and actually waiting on tables. Coming in there was no sense of where to sit and if we can get a menu since we saw their buffet open . We don't like buffet so we opted to order from the menu . For years this restaurant used to be in my top 3 list. However, my last visit has been one of the worst dining experiences of this year. Service is terrible, very unfriendly and non-helpful. Ordered mild food was brought spicy. I ordered navratan korma with creamier sauce - I was brought food with thickened almost non-existent sauce. I had 3 dishes that include rice. I was brought only one rice and told to once I finish first rice then I will get second rice. I will not even comment on their eggplant with hot garlic sauce - nothing that I have ever seen in any Chinese restaurant. When I asked waiter about my dishes he became irritated explaining that this is how these dishes are always prepared. At the end when he brought a bill I asked him to wait till I get money just to have him walk away and tell me to take my time. My family and myself have been shocked as this place used to be very different in the past. I will give it a year or two before going back. Be warned!!! read more

I have been here quite a few times. The service is usually decent at best. Today was just the worst, I will never return there again. Usually I put up with the crappy service because the food is good. But the food I ate today tasted microwaved. And the Thai Iced Tea was horrible. And mind you, the place was empty, only two other tables were being served, so I really don't understand why the food and the service was horrible?? The icing on the cake is that they charged gratuity on a party of 3. Had Garlic Nan, Thai Fried Rice, Chicken Tikka Masala, and a vegetable dish. Took awhile for the food to come. Restaurant was 60-70% full around 7:30pm on a Friday. Waiter was a friendly nice man and told us in advance that using my Groupon will have a 18% tip automatically added to the original price. Appreciated his transparency. I had very high expectations for this place but unfortunately I was thoroughly disappointed. Initially when we walked in the ambience factor was very nice. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful but lighting was definitely a little too dim (It was hard to see our food). Because of high wait time the hostess asked us to order before we even got to our table and we were given takeout menus at the front entrance. This definitely took away from the dining out experience. When we were finally seated at the table, it was under a giant fan, which we had to ask our server to turn off, because it was so cold. We were seated at a table for four (basically two small tables pushed together). There was two of us, plus our toddler who needed a highchair. About two mins after the server came with our drinks the manager came and asked if it was okay to take one of the tables away. He was so pushy that we felt obliged to say yes. He started moving our stuff before we even had a second to think about it. When we told him there would be no room for the food when it arrived he proceeded to lecture us on how a small family only needs a small table. He also turned on the giant fan again and we had to ask a second time for it to be shut off. Our server was polite but extremely slow. Even though our food was supposed to be expedited because of ordering earlier it still took a good 45 mins to come. When it did finally come there was no where to put it so the server started putting a hot plate directly in front of our toddler. At that point we were pretty upset since there were plenty of empty tables around us. We asked for the table back and the server brought it back right away, which makes me wonder what the point of taking it away was in the first place. Overall the taste of the food was good. We had the Singapore noodles and the thai panang curry lamb. The portion sizes were definitely small for the price. The server was very slow to bring the bill. When he finally did bring it he didn't come back to get it so we ended having to go up to the bar to pay. Another point of contention was that a busboy passed our table of empty dishes multiple times but never cleared the table. The cherry on the top of the bad service though was when the manager approached my husband whilst we were paying and asked us to recommend to the owners that he gave us excellent service and should get a salary raise.
