So having been lucky enough to have been a son of probably the best indian/pakistani chefs in Utah (My Mom who passed several years ago). I have to say the taste and flavors of just about everything I have ordered so far take me back to my mother's kitchen. Visiting Nepali Chulo has now become a visit to a good friend. For the last several years we have visited frequently after church on Sunday, but have added Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and our Anniversary to our list of shared memories at Nepali Chulo. This is the first stop from the airport when our kids come to visit from out of State. I love walking in and knowing that the owner will immediately get my Chai Tea brewing, while bringing my husband his Diet Coke. When we arrive we know that we can choose our favorite spot or try a new one. We enjoy chatting with Manny, the owner while our food cooks and we are never rushed to leave. Although we love all the food we've tried, our favorite this year is the Chicken Tikka (served on a sizzling hot platter) and if we are lucky, we have leftovers to fight over the next day! Got takeout on 11/18/20 and it was fantastic!! We ordered lamb biryani, aloo gobi, chicken coconut curry, garlic naan and sweet naan. The restaurant was very clean when I went in, but didn't stay due to Covid. I would love to try the buffet once things get back to "normal". First time trying this place ordered delivery i had the Lamb rogan which was phenomenal my wife had the excellent chicken tiki masala, and we shared the chicken tandoori which exceeded our expectations and the bison momos i loved them. We also ordered some delicious mango lassas and their mango pudding has my wife and having only one complaint that being there wasn't enough i could've eaten a quart of it. Came for the lunch buffet. Everything was amazing !!! All the food is seasoned really well and there is a good amount of food to choose from. We came towards the end of the buffet so some things were gone but they made us more food of the food that was gone so we could still try it. Staff was awesome....very nice and attentive. This place is absolute perfection. I have been in numerous times and have tried numerous dishes, and there isn't one I haven't loved. If you love coconut, the coconut curry chicken is a special delight. The chicken is perfectly cooked. The sauces are flavorful. I feel their mild-medium-hot scale is accurate for my American tongue. As for Coronavirus times, they're open for takeout and they also deliver. Please help them stay busy and open! Today I took food home to my son and told him that I really hope this place makes it though these hard times. He tried the dishes I brought home and said, "YES. Keep going here. The best in the valley! I might get hate for this but I prefer their food over Bombay House. Ambiance and decor could use an uplift, but the food & service make up for it ten fold. We ordered the garlic chicken, lamb curry, shrimp curry & chicken coconut curry with garlic naan & garlic cheese naan. Rarely do I feel the need to just sit back and enjoy the flavors going on in my mouth! Most of the time I just love any kind of Indian food, but there have been a couple of times where I've felt the need to just sit and revel in the flavors of East India. My cousin and I wanted to eat Indian food while she was visiting and we got to the last day of the visit before an appointment that was scheduled for over a month. I must have had blinders on when I saw some of the reviews for Nepali Chulo because I didn't pay close enough attention to the time frame for travel times. Once we got there, we found out that they weren't serving their usual buffet due to Covid. The restaurant was extremely clean, but vacant. There were sigs at the door for all kinds of take-out and delivery, but no signs that the buffet wasn't being served due to COVID-19. We decided to order anyway and sat down for one of the biggest surprises of my life. I have found good Indian food all over the country. The best being in Toledo, Ohio, Detroit, Michgan, but the Nepali Chulo ranks up there with some of the best in the Nation! Service was excellent and Manny was more than accommodating! I like this new Nepali/Indian place, sort of buffet-style but they have side orders that you can get. Spinach Saag is my pick and Samosas are fulfilling. It's quiet and the owner is accommodating. I ordered the vegetarian thali to get a sample of several curries -- all of which were delicately spiced, well balanced, and very good. Somosa was good, lasi was good. But here's the twist. This restaurant actually carries some exotic items that are quite good. For example: I ordered bison momos (dumplings). Those were awesome. Hands down some of the best Indian in Salt Lake area. Today was the first time we've gone to Nepali Chulo. The owner kindly greeted and served us. The food was delicious! We ordered a full Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, the Thali (sampler platter) with goat meat, the bread basket and a mango lassi for the 3 of us (me, my husband and our 10 yr old son). All of it was excellent. Everything was medium spice except the Chicken Tikka Masala which was mild. We left very full with a full box of leftovers and many pieces of bread. It was $68, which is less than we usually spend on Indian food (hubby also got a coke). The restaurant was clean and had a positive vibe. I went here with my husband and brother in law and absolutely loved the food! I got the Lamb Boti Kabab and it was so delicious! It came out sizzling and the lamb and veggies were perfection. And the yogurt sauce blended great! My husband got the chicken biryani and his brother got the lamb korma and they both enjoyed their meals too. The place was nice, quiet and clean too.
