We stopped by on a road trip because we saw the wonderful reviews and were craving Nepalese food. We were greeted immediately upon entering and rushed to a table.....and then ignored for a while. They seemed decently busy but the dining room was no where near full. We made eye contact multiple times with our server but kept getting ignored by her. Our server eventually came over and brought us water but didn't even give us a chance to tell her we were ready to order. Eventually we ordered and food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Portion sizes were great. We received much more naan than we're used to getting anywhere else. But unfortunately, I just couldn't finish my food. Spice level was perfectly hot but aside from that, it was lacking in flavor. Then, when we were done, we got tired of waiting so we grabbed our own take out boxes. Our server saw us doing so and didn't even bother to come ask if we needed anything. We had to go up to the front register area to ask for the check. She brought our check over after helping her other tables and again, tired of waiting, we had to flag her down at the front register area to pay our bill so we could leave. This seemed to be a common theme of other parties dining that night. Looking around the restaurant, we noticed other parties frustratingly waiting as well and grabbing their own take out boxes. At no point did our server ever apologize for the wait. I understand staffing shortages and it's no fault of the server if I didn't enjoy the food. But just the complete lack of care for customer service and blatantly ignoring us. She also was wearing Airpods so that did not seem very professional to me. The food was amazing!! The service from the staff was very friendly and welcoming. And the Ambiance was simple and relaxing. We came from Pleasant Grove to try out the food and we were very satisfied! We wanted to try many dishes, so we got Chicken butter, Lamb Coconut Korma, Garlic Chicken, and Chicken Tika Masala. All of them were amazing with both Bread and Rice. Manny was the host that evening and the entire staff were great and polite. They even gave us free "Nepalese Donuts" as Manny would call them. Not too shabby for an Indian joint in West Valley considering these are popping all over the place now. This little gem is hiding next to the Centennial Vasa fitness gym off of 5600W and 3500S. Unfortunately, it's next door to Lil Caesar's Pizza so that smell of fresh bread and pizza may interfere with your experience. I ordered the chicken coconut curry and for some reason, it reminded me of my mom's curry. I think it was missing some spices and maybe I'm comparing this to the coconut kormas I've had at other restaurants. If these 2 dishes are completely different, I apologize for my ignorance. I also ordered the sweet naan because it looked like the same ingredients of the peshwari naan I get everywhere else. Fortunately, this is truly a winner and so glad it's only $2.99! We went with high hopes after reading that the chef had originally worked at Himalayan Kitchen (which, up until this point, has been our favorite), we were NOT let down. From the tantalizing smells when we first walked in, we knew we'd made a great choice. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and provided some great recommendations. She checked on us just the right amount. Not too seldom and not too frequently, like she had nothing else to do. We ordered the paneer pakora for an appetizer and it was so flavorful. I don't think I'd ever had Indian cheese before and it was more firm than I had expected. The chickpea batter was fried perfectly and nice and crispy. It came with two dipping sauces, one was something like a sweet and sour and the other was the classic mint, which was my favorite. We had an order of the garlic cheese naan and an order of the garlic naan to go with our main dishes, which were chicken coconut korma and garlic chicken, which is a chef's special. I first tried the coconut korma and felt like it was bad manners to let a pleased "mmmm" out after every bite, but I just couldn't help it. The combination and complexity of spices and flavors was absolutely amazing. Next I tried the garlic chicken (chef's special) and boy, was it special. The depth of flavor increased with every bite and the medium spice level was perfect. So much for taking leftovers, we sopped up every bit on the remaining naan and left fat and happy. We're already getting friends to come back with us in the near future. The added bonus of our new favorite Indian place is that it's closer to home for us and closer to my husband's work, so he can stop and grab me some on those busy days. Edit-- they gave us a to go dessert on our way out, just because. When we got home and tried it I think I fell in love again. It's like a rich mango pudding or custard, it is so smooth. Nepali Chulo is a great place to eat at if you're looking for a variety of good Nepali/Indian food! Their menu is expansive so you're able to order both classic and more unique dishes. I ordered their Samosa Chaat and Chicken Pakora by the recommendation of several reviews, and, overall, both dishes were good. The Samosa Chaat was something quite new to me. It consisted of two smashed samosas topped with raita, tomato, tamarind, onion, and more. The samosas were great, but I found the toppings to be a little too tangy. However, if you like that flavor profile, especially tamarind, then definitely give it a try. The Chicken Pakora was good as well, and it smelled wonderful. Some of the chicken pieces were dry, but the moisture of the chutneys helped with that. The portions are generous but not overwhelming here, which I like. There's definitely more to try - I hear the bison momos are very popular - so if you're feeling Nepali/Indian food, give this place a shot! read more

Nepali Chulo is a fantastic name for a restaurant and describes the restaurant and its owner. Chulo means COOL in Spanish ie: Papi Chulo etc. However in Nepali a Chulo is a stove. The owner is an extremely cool man. He is inviting and it feels like you are eating at his house as his honored guest. I had Nepali food in the past but I was not ready for the amazing experiences that await. My favorites are the Vegetable Momo and the chow main noodles. As far as Nepali food in SLC this represents more of the indochinese style. The Momos are more like a dim sum (Chinese) or Mandoo Style (Korean) because they are steamed. Momos I had elsewhere were prepared more samosa Indian styled and deep fried. The steamed Momo with the vegan sauce is a pleasure. The Chow Mein is something I never had and was also the indochinese style. And May I mention the fried onions which are the best I have ever had in my life. As I was guided through my dining experience by the owner it felt as if I were in Nepali instead of West Valley, Utah. The energy is positive and welcoming. There were Sikh people eating there also. For me when I go to a cultural restaurant and people whom belong to that culture are also dining there it's reassuring. Plus I really like Sikh people. I wandered in here for a solo dinner, and couldn't have been happier with the food. I tried a veritable feast of Nepalese food, and everything tasted absolutely amazing. I ate myself to the bursting point, and for good reason - the food was great. I will note that the interior of this place is pretty plain, and service can be hit or miss - in particular, my poor server was so busy that he largely forgot about me for quite some time.
