This is an under appreciated gem of a restaurant. Everything was so delicious! I'd even say it's better than bombay house (Mumbai house now). I got the okra and my boyfriend got the chicken tikka masala, our go to's. The rice was perfectly soft, and the flavors of our dishes were on point. I immediately noticed upon entering the restaurant that it had terrible ambiance. A big open room with very little decorations on the walls and tables and booths scattered around. My take on COVID edition. We ordered take out because this place is really close to my house I figured my meal would be warm but it wasn't. I enjoyed the flavor of my chicken tikka masala but my chicken tandoori was a little on the raw side which made it inedible. After several hours of research to identify 65 cheap SLC ethnic restaurants that I hadn't tried yet, I was intrigued by one that topped the rankings on both Yelp and Google: Nepali Chulo. I've been to many Nepali/Indian restaurants in Utah, but this has to be the most authentic. While I love the standard curry dishes available at South Asian restaurants in the US, I've yet to find one with a legitimate thali meal like I've had many times in those countries. As the Nepali owner put it, the thali is the Thanksgiving feast of South Asia. It's all the dishes you wanted to try on the menu, all on one plate. This thali was a perfect combination of daal, potatoes and cauliflower, goat curry, spinach with paneer, naan, and mango pudding for dessert. This meal would have been a highlight of my visit to Nepal. Now it can be the highlight of your visit to West Valley. read more

West Valley is bringing its A game with Nepali Chulo!!! In my head I refer to this place as Nepali Cool, which I think is apt (I spent a lot of time in Spanish class growing up). In actuality a chulo is a Nepali stove used for cooking (if the kids can't be in school at least they can learn something on Yelp). I have eaten a lot of Indian food (lest you doubt my chops, l'm talking an Indian food trek across three countries....ironically none of which were India). We have some great Indian Food in Utah. This place is up there with the best of them. Their chicken pakora is phenomenal. We got two orders it was so impressive. They weren't stingy on the sauce and after we ate the pakora I even had enough mint chutney left to mix into my other food (I like mint chutney, so sue me). We also ordered an assortment of chicken entrees. The chicken tikka masala and chicken makhani were flavorful and delicious. Every bite, including the sauce alone had texture (I'm talking veggies and cashews etc.). The cheese naan was good too. Their plain naan was pretty par for the course, but we meant to order butter naan which probably would have been better. Although we didn't order them they had a good variety of lamb and fish dishes as well as Nepali food. They There are a couple very small things I like better about one or two of the other Indian restaurants around Sale Lake. I like plain basmati, which is served here, but I love the buttery and delicately spiced basmati that some of the other places around serve. My husband prefers it plain, though, so that's pretty subjective. They also don't serve Southern Indian food. I really love Southern Indian food too, so it is always exciting to see Dosas on the menu. On top of the fabulous food we had great service. The kind gentleman who served us gave us free mango pudding for dessert. I know I should be an expert, but this was my first time eating mango pudding and it was awesome. It was like Mango Lassi in pudding form. So, if you are on the West side with a hankering for some delicious food from the East side (of the world) check this place out!!! read more

Meh, not great Indian food. We decided to give Nepali a try given all of the outstanding reviews. We were more than a little disappointed. If it was not for the kind service, this place would be two stars for us. Chulo vegetable platter -- sampler with samosa, onion pakora and aloo tikiki flavor was all dominated by what tasted like oil that needed to be changed. Chicken Sekuwa -- best of what we had from Nepali Chullo. The chicken chunks were cooked just right with a good smoked flavor. Naan -- we ordered a mix including plain, garlic, garlic cheese and the Chulo special naan. A consistent theme across all is that they were all tough and somewhat dry. Their dough may have been off that day, as it was all just not right. I've never had tough naan. For the first time that I can recall, our group left much of the naan uneaten. Chicken tikka masala -- mostly sauce with limited, small chunks of chicken that were over cooked and dry. Surprising as the chicken sekuwa was moist and flavorful. Although we ordered spicy, what we were served was not at all spicy. The sauce was bland, basic with none of the usual dimension or flavor profile of delicious tikka masala. Chef special (garlic chicken) -- we had high expectations as it was highly recommended to us. Again, we ordered spicy. It was another bland, flat dish. Vegetable biryani -- this looked great on the table (we were hopeful), but just lacked the usual, rich flavor of a good biryani ... let alone an excellent one. read more

I am going to think about this meal for a long time-it was that good!! I got the chicken momos, garlic naan, and chai and they were all the best I have had. I am a huge dumpling fan and hadn't had chicken momos but it did not disappoint. Everything was very flavorful and it was really hard not to keep eating. The portions are very good. One of the owners was my waiter and you could tell he was very passionate about his menu. He was also very nice and humble too. This place is GOOD! Mom and I are on a road trip through UT and we were in search of a place for dinner. This place didn't disappoint. It was a Friday night so we had a bit of a wait but it was worth it. The service was a bit slow but it was GOOD SERVICE. We had a meal that came with a protein of your choice (we had chicken), 2 vegetable curries (chef's choice) a dessert, rice and the yellow lentils. It was served on the cutest gold tray and these matching little Bowls. It was all seasoned to perfection and very good. Found this place by accident while perusing through UberEats, trying to find something different. The food is amazing and have ordered multiple times since. Thanks fellow Yelpers for steering us to Nepali Chulo. It's far afield from my usual haunts but when we found ourselves on west 3500 south, and decided we didn't want to go for our usual Pho in the area, we started looking for an option. Nepali Chulo looked like a good option to my wife so I and she decided to give it a shot and were so glad we did. The interior is quite sparsely decorated, with red walls and a mix of booths around the perimeter on two sides and tables in the middle area. So many attentive staff members helped us that it would be difficult to point out one person in particular who wasn't right on their game. We started by ordering an appetizer. We chose the vegetable pakora , which was a real winner, a large serving of minced vegetables of many varieties held together by a batter which was deep fried, but was not oily at all. It was served with a cilantro chutney and tamarind dipping sauce. Almost a meal in itself! We had lassis for our drink, mango for my wife and a salty lassi for me. Really tasty. And finally for a main course we ordered Bison Momos which were really meaty and a great protein boost, Goat Biriyani, which was super flavorful with lots of spice and Mahi Mahi coconut korma, all ordered medium hot, just as we like them. And we couldn't have a delicious Indian/Nepali dinner without an order of Nann, so we requested the Aloo Paratha to clean up the sauce on our plates. Such a feast of great food and a top notch staff to match. This will be our new go-to place for Nepali or Indian food. So many menu choices yet to explore. read more

Stopped in on my lunch hour and the wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. The buffet had a lot of options and the only bone in option was the tandoori chicken. The Samosas were huge and the pastry wrapping was very crispy and flakey. They bring the naan out to your table fresh so it is nice and hot when you eat it. Wow. Just wow. My friend and I... There were so many head nods while chewing our food, alongside lots of "mmmm" sounds. We had the chicken pakora and vegetable samosas to start. I tried the pakora based off of another yelpers review, I'd have to say that was my least favorite item and can't agree on it. It does come out good, but after sitting a bit, it does dry the meat some. That's our fault for accepting all of our dishes at once. Still good, just least favorite. The samosas however? Slam dunk. Best I've had anywhere! Bhindi Fried Okra Chicken Curry Side of naan bread The blend of flavors the okra and curry had were outstanding. The chicken, was so perfectly cooked. Bread, still hot with a perfectly toasted layer. Basmati rice, not too dry or soft. You can tell the chef really cares about what comes out. I can appreciate the art behind it all, every little bit counts and it shows in these dishes. The owner is very friendly and it really seems like this is a genuine good bunch of people, serving good food, wanting to be successful. Put this on the map!!! I'm not even vegan. The pricing isn't outrageous to me like other places for similar food. Service was awesome and cleanliness is there. Get naan bread with your meal to help get your fill with your main dish. I can't wait to try everything else. To really take advantage of this place, they have buffet style lunch times where you can knock off about 12 of their dishes in one sitting for about $11!!! Went to the grand opening today and let me just say, that I understand every restaurant will have kinks to work out on opening day but I was truly impressed. We were the first customers and we could not have been treated kinder. They were welcoming and friendly, excited to share their food with us. The owner (I think) was explaining to us why today was the perfect opening day, because of their world celebration. He shared the altar they had built and why it was important. The food was delicious! Finally an Indian food restaurant close to home. First, I apologize for not taking any photos. How did I forget? I was craving samosa and dove right in! We wanted Indian and couldn't decide where so I looked it up and, poof! Here is this new place I'd not heard anything about that's closer to home than most. We decided to give it a try. Next to the Vasa Fitness Center on 56th, it's tucked in, but is roomy and comfortable on the inside. We were greeted warmly and tajen to a booth. We ordered Veggie samosa and chicken pakora for appetizers. The Samosas were good, and met my craving deliciously. The chicken pakora? Amazing! Beautifully seasoned, very moist, and the best we've ever had anywhere! (We eat a lot of Indian food) The yogurt and tamarind were very good. My hubby said the mint chutney was the best he's ever had. He brought it home with him, and he has NEVER done that! Lol We also had plain naan and garlic naan. Authentic and good! Hubby ordered the chicken tikka masala, medium, and said it was very good. I had the lamb curry, mild. It felt more like a medium, but that could be me. The owner offered to bring me a different one that was more mild. It tasted good, and I was fine with it, so I preferred to eat what I was served. He came back a few minutes later and said he thought it was a little spicy, too. He offered to bring us a mango pudding. We declined...so full. He brought it, though, and while he said we could take it home, we ate it right there. It was fabulous! The owner is a kind and sincere gentleman who genuinely wants to know how he's doing and where he can improve. That attitude will serve him well. I hope this place stays a long time. This place is hidden in an unsuspecting plaza. I saw the sign to this place when heading towards 7-11 for my gas. When I checked the reviews, I was worried this place wasn't authentic and catered mostly to non-nepali palate. But I was wrong! I started with the Chicken jhol momo, my goto to dish in any Nepali restaurant. The jhol is one of the best I have had in the states. The creamy texture with tomato and sesame taste hits home. The dumpling itself seemed very small in portion for my liking so my hunger wasn't craved with that order and proceeded with chicken chowmein. The flavor definitely has no compromises. But I'd have liked the chicken pieces to be a bit fried rather than the tandoor. But nevertheless, the dining experience was great for me , especially after coming from a 7 day hike from zion. The service was very fast and the host was very attentive. It has a very big indoor space so large parties can easily come in. Would make a great place for a quick catchup with friends or family dinners. Highly recommend! If I lived here, this would definitely be my regular! This place has been in my bookmarks since it opened, but I live downtown, so between the drive and then quarantine, I never got to try it until yesterday. All I can say is, don't be skeptical of the perfect 5-star score this place has - the food is really that good! My boyfriend and I shared the chulo meat platter, bison jhol momos, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. Portions were more generous than many Indian/Himalayan restaurants, but the food was so good we ate it all and didn't save any for leftovers! We were also too busy eating to take pictures. The meat platter was a great way to get a sampling of all of the tandoori specialties, and came with mint and tamarind chutneys to balance the heat of the tandoori chicken, which was spicier than the other meats. The chicken in the tikka masala was extremely lean and juicy. The sauce was much creamier and thicker than I've had in any other Indian food, which made it less messy to eat with the thick, soft, perfectly chewy garlic naan. The creamy sauce also mitigated the spiciness; though we ordered a medium, but I found it more like a mild. The real star, though, were the bison jhol momos. The bison filling was juicy and full of spices, but the jhol was an absolute explosion of complex flavors: cumin, garlic, chili, fenugreek, and at least a half dozen others that I couldn't pinpoint. This dish definitely has some heat: we ordered a mild, but I found it spicier than the medium tikka masala. The atmosphere is nothing special - it's hidden away in a strip mall and there's not much decor or ambiance, but we felt like VIPs because the owner himself and his wife waited on us extremely attentively. Since it was our first time dining, the owner really wanted to make sure we loved everything and had a good experience. He didn't do this and then hint or pressure us to leave a good review; he obviously takes great pride in his business and truly wants his customers to leave happy, even if that means lower margins. This obsession with quality and customer experience even extends to their sparkling clean restrooms, which were stocked with the plushest 3-ply toilet paper I've ever encountered at a restaurant, including Ruth's Chris. Humble, family-run restaurants like this that are guided by personal ethics over profit margins are few and far between, and getting rarer. Please make the trip and check this place out. Was so excited to find this place since there's not another Indian place in the area. Pleased to find they're very clean. They follow covid protocols from wearing masks/gloves, to bringing out clean plates right before your meals served/pouring your own water. Place was sadly fairly empty and I could tell they were struggling. I'd hate to see this place go because the food was great! We had the chicken and lamb curries. It came with rice or naan. We chose to get rice and order the plain naan extra for an extra couple dollars. My 2 1/2 yr old son had the kids plate that came with a mango pudding dessert. They do dine-in and takeout. Our newest favorite find! It's 25 min from us but so so worth it! Our favorites are the Baigan Bharta, the Saag Aloo, Aloo Gobi, and Aloo Paratha. Medium spice level is perfect and the owner (I think he's the owner) is very nice. This is real Indian/Nepalese food, not the overly sweet Americanized stuff every other place in Utah makes. Small, nondescript place in a strip mall that's currently under construction so easy to miss but don't give up, your tummy will thank you! read more
