This has been the singularly worst customer service experience that I've ever had. I understand that this is an incredibly popular restaurant, but the staff had an incredible disregard for customers that I've never encountered at any other restaurant. My party and I signed in at 4:30pm and were told that we would be seated within 2 1/2 hours. We left our number at the front desk and were told that we'd get a call when the table was ready. She said that there was only 1 party ahead of us on the waiting list. We hung around the area until 7pm, when we checked back in with the hostess. She assured us that the table was just about to leave and that we'd be seated shortly. She explained to us that there was only 1 table that could seat all of us together, so we'd be seated soon. About 45 minutes later, one of our party went in to use the restaurant and saw that a table of 7 was just getting their food. We didn't hear anything from them for another 30 minutes, and we waited about 15 minutes to get that hostess's attention. We explained that we'd been waiting for 3 1/2 hours after we'd been told we'd be waiting for about 2 1/2 hours. We said we'd been told that there was only 1 group ahead of us and that we weren't sure why that would lead us to have a 3 1/2 hour wait. The waitress was dismissive of our concerns and explained that these delays could happen when "1 party was 10 minutes late, and the next was 10 minutes behind that, and then the next one was 20 minutes late..." We pointed out that we'd been told that there was only 1 party ahead of us when we checked in, and we asked how this could be the case. She dismissed us again and said that it wasn't their fault. She said that we would be contacted when the current 7-person party was leaving. The hostess came to us about 5 minutes later to say that the party was asking for the check. We said that we'd decided to leave given the long wait, and the hostess cut us off. She said, "Yeah, yeah, okay," and she held up one finger to us as she walked away without talking to us. We waited a few minutes more to see if she would return, and then we left the area. Despite the high quality reported in Yelp reviews, I couldn't discourage people from going here strongly enough. I was appalled at the lack of respect for their patrons. I understand that there can be significant waits for good food, but waiting for an additional hour (on top of an estimated 2 1/2 hour wait) without any communication or understanding from the front-of-house staff is just unacceptable. read more

Neptune Oyster bar feels more like Brooklyn than Boston. It's as if someone transported Prime Meats in Williamsburg, brought it to Boston's North End and substituted steak for seafood. Needless to say, I'm a big fan. Covered in subway tiles with a long bar that spans the length of the restaurant, there's always a wait for a table, a buzz in the air, and a scene-y energy that makes me feel like I'm back in New York. I prefer a seat at the bar and a pint of a local brew, while scanning that evening's oyster list. There are plenty of local bivalves and beers on tap, but Neptune also flies in West Coast oysters...my personal fave. Start with a smattering of oyster selects and then move on to crudo; I tried both the hamachi ceviche with jalapeno-lime vinaigrette and the dayboat scallops with local apple marmalade...equally on point. The plated menu items are generously portioned and genuinely prepared with seasonal ingredients you can feel good about. The fare is "elevated seafood shack" featuring: fried Ipswich clams, buttermilk johnnycakes with smoked trout tartare and caviar, whole fish grilled a la plancha, and their signature dish, your choice of a hot butter or cold mayo Maine lobster roll served with french fries. I live in the North End and always walk by this restaurant. There are always lines down the st... people even line up on Sunday mornings waiting for the restaurant to open. Combined with the rave reviews, I figured that this place must be good so my boyfriend and I decided to finally try it one Sunday night. We put our names in around 7pm and there was a 2 hour wait, which we were prepared for. They take your name and call you when your table is ready. I got the special, which was a whole roasted bronzino and my boyfriend got the lobster roll with hot butter. My fish was delicious and perfectly roasted with crispy skin and great flavor. I tried a bite of the lobster roll and thought it was delicious too, although my boyfriend didn't think it was as good as it was hyped up to be. He is a lobster roll snob and couldn't really find anything wrong with it, just said he thinks he would have preferred the cold lobster roll. One thing for sure is that they definitely do not skimp on the lobster meat! We also had some oysters and drinks. The oysters were fresh and they had a good variety that rotates frequently. Hands down best place for oysters and lobster roll on the east coast! My husband and I took a trip to the New England states for one week. We traveled from Boston to Maine by car. We tried oysters and lobster roll in every state, at famous eateries showcased on TV. However, our favorite place was a recommendation by my husband's coworkers, Neptune Oyster. Not only do they have an impressive selection of delicious oysters from both coasts, the lobster roll beat out everything we tried in Maine. What made this place better than the rest was temperature. The lobster roll was actually warm - both the buttered lobster meat and the bun! I like raw seafood cold but I HATE cooked seafood served tepid or worse, cold (e.g. shrimp cocktail). So if you're in the mood for great seafood, skip Maine and go straight to Boston! Warning: there will be a long wait (like 1.5 to 2 hours) but they give you a pager so you can leave and go do other things (like nap, grab drinks elsewhere or take a pre-dinner stroll). read more

Had a chance to try this place on recommendation from a friend while on a business trip to Boston. I went for the lobster roll and it didn't disappoint. Plus, they smothered the plate with French fries. And I consider French fries and ketchup a separate food group! The fries were great! And the lobster roll was fantastic. Having only had oysters from the Texas gulf I wasn't overly excited to try this place. My husband was told by so many people not to miss this place. Thank God we went!! This place has several different types of oyster from the area. We had 5 different ones and must say the ducksberry oyster was the best! Best lobster rolls in boston. Came here while on vacation and was in a rush as my bus was leaving for New York in an hour, and the staff was very friendly. I will say I liked the cold one a little better, but compared to the other lobster roll I had this one was far superior. We did come in around 3 on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy at all. Heidi L. you are my hero. Good call on this spot as it was one of the local favorites around North End too. Even though the three of us split only a single lobster roll, 6 oysters, 3 clams, it was good enough to say that this is one of my favorite spots coming to Boston for. The people were all very friendly, even the lady who waited in line with us was offering all these great suggestions. Congrats on the 5 year anniversary, and I'll definitely have to come back for a more intense meal instead of trying to fit 3 dinners in one day. After hearing about these hot buttered lobster rolls for years and having never set food in this establishment, I knew where I wanted to have a special lunch. The lobster roll didn't disappoint. It was hearty, buttery, falling out the seams, just delicious. Even the fries on the side were good too. We also added a slew of shellfish, mostly a variety of oysters and then some clams. Again, as awesome as you can get for fresh shellfish. Yellow-fin sashimi was refreshing. It was served spread out on a plate with a avocado and citrus glaze. Neptunes on piggyback, were pork belly served on top of a fried oyster. Mouth watering. This place will cost you, but its worth every penny! The waitstaff can have a tude, which adds to its Boston charm. I'm sure the volume can be overwhelming. I have to admit...Neptune Oyster lived up to its hype. I am a fan. You have to try their decadent $25.00 hot lobster roll doused in butter. And their selection of oysters was probably some of the best I've ever had. Officially my favorite lobster roll! I got the buttered hot option and all I can say is WTF did they do to that roll to make it so good? It was so simple. Worth the $29 and the fries were yummy to. The oysters were the best I have ever had too. I had a variety of them and OMG The mignonette was perfection. The Kusshi really did taste like cucumber. Very cool. The chowder was solid. Watery for those who like the thinner chowder and had about 4 full size clams. It was tasty. The burger came with these fried oysters that were my second favorite thing in the place. These things were so good they should be the bar and standard of fried oysters. Could I have ordered an entire side of them? Oh...the burger? It was cooked well, quality beef and next time I will get the sauces on the side. Wayyyyy too much. The beer menu was also solid. Maine Beer Co. - that's a plus. This place is small, I had to make sure I was drinking my water and not the guy's next to me. Under an hour wait on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm. I noticed the wait was much shorter as the night went on, so I would recommend coming late on a weekday night! Food thoughts: -Clam chowder: very different from the average clam chowder I'm used to in San Francisco. It's not thick and is very light. Still delicious. -Johnnycake: SOOOO GOOOOD!!! The hype is real. Please order this. It's like a pancake with bluefish and caviar which sounds strange but makes for the most perfect combination of food. -Lobster roll: tried both the cold roll with mayo and the hot roll with butter. You can't go wrong with either. I preferred the hot one and my boyfriend preferred the cold. Literally the best lobster roll I've ever had in my life! Neptune definitely serves up a delicious meal, there's no doubting that. Do I think they have the best lobster roll in Boston? Meh, not really. The space is also so small, expect to in constant contact with everyone around you. They also don't take reservations which can be frustrating. Service was okay, nothing special but hey it's Boston. We started with some oysters which were good, though mine had a few bits of rock in them which wasn't so pleasant. They could have been prepared more carefully. We also had the shrimp cocktail which was very good. For my entree I had the lobster roll with greens on the side instead of fries. The roll was very good, nice and buttery and full of big chunks of lobster. Greens were also good and made me feel better about eating the roll! I'm less convinced that Neptune is the place to go for fish. My cioppino, while nicely seasoned with a kick, was somewhat unremarkable. The saffron rice was undercooked (I think they meant for the rice to keep cooking in the hot broth after it was brought to the table, but that didn't quite happen). I'm of the opinion that a fisherman's stew should be a messy affair: Neptune's refined interpretation took a little away from the soul of the dish. And there wasn't any lobster. Sadness. My only complaint is when I asked the owner where else I could enjoy a good meal in Boston he recommended his own restaurant. I had heard so many rave reviews about Neptune Oyster, but sadly I was extremely disappointed. And to top it off I think I got food poisoning!!!!! My mom and I arrived at Neputne Oyster on a rainy Friday afternoon around 1:30pm and the place was packed! The restaurant is extremely small that you have to share tables with strangers. The wait staff doesn't even bother separating the tables out a little bit b/c there just isn't any space. And to make the lack of square footage even worse, camera crews were pacing back and forth filming a TV series for the Food Network (which was kind cool if the food was actually up to par). Okay....so I'll eliminate the service aspect of Neptune Oyster from this review since it wasn't an ordinary restaurant day b/c Food Network was filming. So..onto the main topic..THE FOOD! Between my mom and I we ordered Kumanoto oysters, Littenecks, shrimp cocktail, the hot lobster roll and the Vitello Tonnato sandwich. The Kumanotos were about $2.90 each and they tasted really fresh, however, I had got really sick after we left the restaurant. I've had my share of raw foods at various restaurants and different parts of the world, and this is the first time I've had this happen to me. So you've all been warned... I've never seen shrimp cocktail the size of my palm, but unfortunately, in this case bigger isn't better. The cocktail shrimps were overcooked which made the texture of the shrimp way too firm. FAIL! And as for the hot lobster roll, I was not impressed whatsoever. For $25 I expected a lot more. I agree with the other reviews that the roll was overflowing with lobster, but the bun was not toasted and our lobster roll was definitely not "hot", at best our roll was lukewarm. I was thoroughly disappointed when I took my first bite. If I'm going to eat a lobster roll dipped in butter I would expect to taste the butter. Our roll lacked everything I expected it to encompass. FAIL! I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something that didn't necessarily sound appetizing. I ordered the Vitello Tonnato sandwich which was served with tuna tartare, roasted veal with a cumber salad inside. I thought I would try to let my palate experience different things, but this sandwich made a statement to my taste buds to never mix fish and veal in sandwich. The textures did not merry well and it was just a weird combination. I think the sandwich would have been better off just the tuna tartare and the cucumber salad. Also, the sandwich had way too much roasted veal and it masked the freshness of the tuna tartare. Again...FAIL! I'm sure after reading this review, you know what I'm going to say. Don't waste your time with Neputne Oyster because it's overrated and there's a pretty high chance you might get sick. Don't worry about any of the other food. Trust me - it's all you want. We got to Neptune Oyster around 5:45, which is about 45 minutes after it opened. I knew all about the wait I might be in store for. For a party of two, it was 2.5 hours. Fine. Sign me up. They take your cell phone number so you don't have to stand around there forever until they're ready for you. So we did what I assume everyone else does - find a bar close by and just drink for 2.5 hours. We actually talked to another couple at a bar nearby who was doing just as we were. I would recommend getting there as early as you possibly can, especially if you have a larger group. At 5:45, the party of 4 behind me was given a wait time of 4 hours. I'm assuming not long after that did they stop taking names since they do eventually close for the night. The call came in almost exactly 2.5 hours later. We walked back over and were seated at a table with another couple. Just the name of the game I guess. No big deal for me. They gave us a menu and a piece of paper with all the raw bar options for the day. They also give you a pencil to make your choices. Well, I couldn't resist at least trying something, so we started with a half-dozen oysters based on our server's recommendations. They were delicious and a perfect way to start. This place is clearly a "foody" joint. I swear half of the tourists in Boston are here just because of the reputation that this place has on yelp. That means big crowds, and long waits. Was it worth it? Read on reader! I was in full on tourist mode, and I managed to get up and get myself there EARLY Saturday, at around 11am. I am NOT a morning person. I was told that there would be an hour wait. This really wasn't an issue for me, since I wasn't even hungry. The place was already packed at 11 so it was clear that the wait was warranted. There was physical no place for me to even stand. I appreciated that they take your cell and call you when your table is ready. Without this system, I can imagine a lot of hurt feelings. I was with my Dad, perhaps the least "foodiest" person on the planet. He is a 60 year old man from Pennsylvania. He has no business in a place like this. That said, he was cool to walk around for an hour and we actually had a nice time looking at some of the nearby Freedom Trail stuff. Paul Revere's church is right around the corner. After an hour wait, we were called and walked back to the Neptune Oyster. It might have been more like an hour and 15, but I really can't complain. I think they did a good job with taking names. I will say that their door is kind of dangerous. They had a chain there across the floor that my Dad almost face planted on. Like an old timey metal chain. That's really my only complaint. We were seated promptly and the wait staff did an excellent job dealing with the crowds of people, at an ITTY BITTY little restaurant. On to the food! The oysters were fantastic. The clams were great. Everything tasted super fresh. I had one or 2 of 5-6 different oysters, and I couldn't really distinguish them. I just liked the ones that were listed as medium salty better than the very high salt ones. I had a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was good, but a little soupier than I would have liked. Some more potatoes and clams would have been nice. I had the lobster roll (hot) as my entree. This was probably the best lobster roll I've ever had. So much lobster meat. I could have made 2 lobster rolls out of what was on the 1. Simply fantastic. The fries were only so so though, I wish you could switch the fries out for something else. They really didn't fit with all the trendy sea food items. All in all the food was fantastic and worth a wait of an hour or so. However, if you are hungry I would go elsewhere, there are plenty of other joints that look just as good if not better in walking distance. WARNING: I've been eating at this place ever since it opened. It was a nice little neighborhood place. The owner would say hi upon entering. Now he's not there that much, it's always crowded, and the staff doesn't appreciate your visit. Seems strange when there are 50 other restaurants within a few blocks. My last visit was not a good experience. They ran out of so many items on the menu in the middle of the day. I asked for a Geary's Beer. Nope. I asked for the Burger. Nope. I asked for the Tuna Sandwich. Nope. Finally I asked for the Cioppino. A good seafood stew on a cold winters day. I've had it before and it was fine. Not the same result last Friday. Finally got a table within 2 hours after almost 2 years in Boston. Score. Got a plate of oysters, and their descriptions of the flavors are spot on (cucumber, honeydew, butter, anyone?). Double score. Ordered the Johnnycake with smoked trout and caviar. Amazingly delicious triple score. We dared some people to order the johnnycake and offered to pay for it if they didn't like it. They never claimed that one. Warm lobster roll with Old Bay seasoned crispy french fries. Icing on the cake quadruple score. The service is spot on, and the bar is a great place to park yourself. Service was top notch, from the waiter/bar keep that knew that didn't linger, but answered our questions and asked us the right questions to make this a memorable evening! ....expensive? Wonderful. My bf went with a friend a couple of weeks ago and loved it so much he was excited to share it with me so he took me last night and ordered exactly the same dishes. We did wait 2 hours on a Saturday but wow, what a treat! We started with a number of local oysters and wine, moved on to steamed little necks, chowder and finished with the amazing lobster roll. RAW BAR: Island creek - a great introduction to oysters for a newbee if you ask me. Medium amount of brine, large sized, and smooth. Summerside - These really stood out to me for their medium brine that turned suprisingly nutty at the end. Truly satisfying. Kushi - petite, mild and creamy. I think I might prefer the kumamotos though. Shrimp Cocktail - I don't remember the last time I've seen such a large shrimp. Btw, I would highly recommend the book "The Big Oyster. History on the Half Shell" by Mark Kurlansky, a fascinating read about the history of NY through the role of the oyster. LITTLENECK CLAMS: tasty but I'm not a big clam fan ever since my mom fed me a raw one with hot sauce out of her kitchen that made me sick when I was 12. Everyone else really enjoyed them though. CHOWDER: I can't describe it other than perfect. It is light, fresh, fragrant, not heavy not salty and not overdone. It was simply lovely. LOBSTER ROLL: Wonderful. Truly. We knew we had to order it when we looked down the row of tables and nearly everyone had that 5" or so warm, ever so buttered, bread overflowing, no, exploding! with absolutely succulent lobster tail and claws with a side of hot browned crisp fries. I loved that the sandwich did not have a lot of sauce. I've had lobsters in the past that rely too heavily on butter and never gives the lobster enough respect - this lobster itself was so flavorful it stood alone, and the bread was not oily or over toasted (I hate when I have to fight the bread or risk cutting the top of my mouth to get to the star of the bite) - this bread was just firm enough to serve as the perfect transport for the delicious chunks of lobster. YUM. Amazingly, and telling of a good meal, if you ask me, I did not feel like falling over in a cholesterol filled coma. HO.LY. SHIT. Get the hot lobster roll. It's unlike anything I've had before. The perfectly soft roll. the flavor depth from the lobster being warm vs cold, the BUTTER......YUMMMMMMM. You will not get a lobster roll like this anywhere else. It also had the option of a delicious side salad. Be prepared to wait...but once you get in it's worth every minute of waiting!! Delicious! We went in at around 11 am on a Wednesday morning and the wait was already 20-30 minutes. We ordered the hot lobster rolls, which were really good but tasted almost too much like butter. The real gem though were the oysters, much much better than the lobster rolls. Each are around $3.50, but they are delicious and the wait is worth it for the oysters alone. YES YES YES!!! After a long, sun soaked, cold watered, overly drunk, baby hat stealing day at Singing Beach at Manchester-by-the-Sea, a crew of us emerged from the commuter rail, on to a four person pedaled bike and ended up in North End. Surrounded by gaggles of tourists in the hot sun, we ended up at Neptune thanks to Angel's gentle guidance. The restaurant is small but not that cramped-there was a cool simple long bar that I would totally sit at with one other person. Our table was clean, almost kitchen like and we got to sit next to the open door since it is under-air conditioned. With families in their suburban dressed best, we plopped down with sand in our breasts and I am sure reeking of alcohal and ocean and giant bags of wet towels and everyone was cool with it. We each got to pick oysters from a long list like when you order sushi, and the prices can start to rack up. But I had never really had oysters before (only started eating seafood about a year ago) but I was in a very special place. Served on a large plate of ice and two kinds of sauce, I also ordered a very simple large shrimp cocktail for myself. I loved one so much, the Nova Scotia one I think, I ordered one more for myself and they served on a tiny little plate of ice and wedge of lemon-god I just love small miniture things! I also shared the PEI Mussels with Angel and they were damned tasy-recommend getting hot bread to sop up the buttery sauce (although I still love Central Kitchens Mussels the best). We ordered some kind of peach nectar and champagne drinks, and the eel and yellowtail salad one woman had was amazing (like sushi...in a salad!) and another one had a real delicate salmon salad that hit the spot. One thing I wasn't prepared for was just how TINY this place is. We got there around 6:15 last Friday night, and by sheer dumb luck, we managed to get the last two open seats, next to another couple. Is it kind of awkward to sit at a table with people you don't know? Yes. But sacrifices must be made for a delicious meal, and I can say with confidence that it was worth it. We started with a half dozen oysters, which were silky and delicate. I loved the little sheet that described the way each one tasted, which made ordering easier for oyster n00bs like me and my boyfriend! For our entrees, we both ordered the hot buttered lobster roll. HEAVEN. My question: why don't other places do lobster rolls like this? Make no mistake, there's nothing wrong with the mayonnaise version, but the hot butter is such a lovely change! Went to Neptune Oyster over the weekend and had a great late lunch with a friend. Just a tip, if you don't want a long wait I recommend coming here for a late lunch. We got here and waited at the door for 5 minutes. Do they have a host/hostess? We ended up sitting at the bar, which was fine. We had: Fried Oysters - They were great, perfectly fried, and the tartar sauce it came with was homemade and very tasty Oysters - We had about a half dozen oysters. The Kamata Bay oysters were my favorite Lobster Roll - We got the lobster with Hot Butter, which was what the waitress recommended. Overall Neptune's is a great raw bar restaurant but the place is extremely small. Definitely worth the wait and the price! read more

This place is on the BEST list for lobster rolls and oysters so of course I had to come pay a visit. We came on a weekday a little before they opened for lunch (around 11:15) and there was already a couple of people in line. Good thing we came early since the place is pretty tiny and got packed pretty much instantly as they opened. We ordered some oysters to start and they were delicious and fresh! We also tried the buttermilk johnnycake, which isn't something I'd normally order, but turned out to be DELICIOUS!!! Next, we got the PEI mussels. The sauce was so good and went so well with the bread. The mussels were a good size and also fresh. And my main entree was the lobster roll of course, with salad instead of fries. It came piping hot and I devoured it so quickly! The lobster was so buttery... I want to go back now! The prices are pretty consistent with quality seafood and I would come back more often if it didn't always have such a long line... read more

There are a million reviews, so I am sure I will add nothing unique. But I have to commemorate this awesome meal with a review. Visiting Boston from Chicago, friend in Boston says I have to try Neptune Oyster. I had never eaten a raw oyster (never appealed to me... but Rockefeller style, sure), but figured the 2 hr wait couldn't be wrong. We almost made the fatal error of giving up on Neptune for an Italian place nearby, but I am so glad we stuck to the game plan. This was a life changing meal for me. First, it made me realize the beauty of raw oysters. Now it's true, my favorite part is probably the vinegary shallot mixture, but still. Wow, so good. We tried several varieties and I was able to figure out what my oyster preferences are. If you are oyster shy, let this place show you the ropes. At was also my first lobster roll in buttahhh. Damn. Not surprisingly, delicious. This is now the measure by which I will compare ALL future lobster rolls. The bread, lobster and butter were perfect. If you give this place less than 4 stars, you are clearly whiny and impossible to please. Or you just don't know what the best seafood tastes like. My all time favorite meal to eat in Boston is the Seared George's Bank Scallops from Neptune's. They are to-die for. I have had scallop dishes from most of the nice restaurants in Boston and nothing even compares. I also don't eat meat so even if you order this dish without the duck, it is still amazing. I have also had their mussels, raw bar, lobster roll, clam chowder, etc. - all delicious. And yes, the wait time is really long. But it's not like you have to stand in line like half of the other restaurants in the North End. Non Issue. read more

Best restaurant I have been to in Boston! :) Almost everything was delicious! The oysters were fresh, although I did not like thier mignonette. It had a chemical taste and so opted to use some of their amazing tasting cocktail sauce. I loved their fried clams. The clams were thick and meaty. Their tartar sauce was thick and wasn't the usual store-bought creamy sauce. Rather it was chunky and was amazing! I've never had anything like that before. There was a Johnny cake like thing we also ordered, which tasted amazing. It was a savory pancake like dish. The mussels were slightly dissappointing. Flavor was great but the mussels could have been plumper. Lobster roll - we got this hot and it was a fantastic lobster roll. There is a lot of butter though, so if you don't want an instant heart attack, it's probably best to share. The bread was perfect with the lobster. Lobster was also cooked nicely. The clam chowder was on the watery side. :( Oh one important thing. Expect a wait. We were a party of 7 and had to wait more than 4 hours to be seated on a Saturday. read more

I honestly hate when people on Yelp rate a restaurant based on service over the food, but I can't help it. They have the most amazing lobster rolls I have ever had, but the hostess is the WORST. We have been craving this lobster roll for A FULL YEAR. We live in California and were back in town with a band we manage who just sold out the House Of Blues. We called ahead to ask what time they close. I was told the kitchen closes at 10:30. We called at 10 to place an order for 8 lobster rolls for the band, some of the crew and for us and had the hostess tell us it was too bad, they weren't taking any outgoing orders. So we spent $20 for someone to take a taxi over there to place the order and when he got there, she wouldn't let him order either! So we I to call to explain what the deal was, and she was the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with at a restaurant. Every word I said she would say "nope", "nope", "nope", "nope" until I just lost my temper. I really hope other people who have bad experiences with her write reviews and tell management so they get a competent hostess. read more

I actually didn't know how to even start this review without using cliche words such as AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC, UNBELIEVABLE. But I guess they'll have to do! Holy guacamole this place was good. I was staying in Boston for a week and I wanted to try the world renowned "Lobster Roll". But I didn't want to just try any lobster roll... I wanted the best. And somehow, through Instagram stalking and word of mouth, I ended up at the Neptune Oyster. Little did I know it was going to be one of the best choices I made the entire trip (getting drunk before my flight home was not one of them... Lolzzz). I ordered the lobster roll, hot, with the buttery sauce. The roll was toasted, the lobster chunks huge. The flesh plump and tender. The chips crisp and salty and perfect for absorbing that buttery lobster juicey goodness. The service was perfect. And the vibe of the place filled with "Boston local swag". I kind of felt like people were looking at me funny because I had a gigantic Michelin man jumper on and a camera around my neck (inconspicuous tourist, of course). But I liked it that way. I could genuinely tell this is where the local food lovers went. If you want the best lobster roll in boston, go here. Don't even bother going anywhere else! FANTASTIC Went here for mother's day and there were 4 of us. I called ahead to ask them when I should come and wait for a table (since they opened at 11:30am and do not take reservations). They said to come at 11am, but I got there at 10:50am. There were already two group in front of us, so we were guaranteed a seat. At 11:25am, there was a HUGE line. Get there early people! The food itself was great. the group in front of us when I was waiting in line said that they came the day before and waited 2 hours for a seat but they decided to come back because they were on a business trip (how's that for commitment?) Once they told us they were back a second time, I was sold. I was skeptic about getting a lobster roll since I read on other reviews that it wasn't that good, but they said if you like lobster rolls, just get it and you can be the judge yourself. Wise Words! We ordered oysters, fried calamari, salty fish, clam chowder (it was the thin kind of soup, not the traditional New England Thick kind) and mussels, for appetizers. All fantastic, but my favorite was the fried calamari and the messels a close second (mussel sauce was spicy) For a meal which I shared, I ordered a lobster roll (hot- which means it was made with butter. Cold is with mayonaise) and Yellowtail Tuna. Yellowtail Tuna was great, but the highlight was definitely the LOBSTER ROLL. Huge chucks of lobster, it was $25, but so worth it. I've only been there once and did not experience a line, but if you want to get there for lunch, get there early (before they open) and wait! It's well worth it. read more
